Look, clearly a lot of people have had great experiences here, so maybe we were just unlucky, but this was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Long story short, there are at least 3 Italian places within a few blocks of Allora and I would strongly recommend you try a different one.
The evening started out promising, at least after the brusque and rude owner left us to our own devices. After that, we were doing fine: nice ambiance, nice server, good mocktails. The antipasti and salads were decent, nothing to write home about but OK.
And then the waiting began. We waited over an hour for entrees, except for one of our party who waited another 15 minutes because the kitchen just forgot about the order.
And even that would have been okay if the food was good, but it was not. The food was abysmally bad. The ravioli were severely undercooked. Al dente is one thing, crunchy is another. How do you make fresh pasta crunchy? Hmmmm. The gluten-free gnocchi would have been fine except they were swimming in a vile lake of olive oil. And then there was the cioppino...$38, completely inedible. The fish was so overcooked it was impossible to swallow. Scallops that were somehow both freezer-burned and overcooked. I could still taste them hours later and not in a good way. I am not a picky eater in the least, I love cioppino, and I have sent back maybe 3 things in my entire life, but I was done with this after 2 bites. Our apologetic server comped us the gnocchi and the cioppino, which was a nice gesture--and yet the bill still came to $175 with no alcohol.
Every restaurant has an occasional bad night but this was really a bummer. Buyer beware.
