I came here Monday night and there was no wait. The Buckhead location is super sleek and has a large dining area. There are tables, three or so booths, and bar seating available. I also believe they have room for private dining.
We were seated almost immediately and ordered drinks and water to start with. Drinks ordered were the new fall cocktail Sweata Weatha, which had bourbon, pear liquor, and lime. The taste was described to us as "fall in a cup" and it definitely was! It was well spiced with cinnamon and the bourbon was extremely smooth. I'm not much of a bourbon drinker but definitely a lot sweeter than an old fashioned lol!
We also ordered the reposado, which is the tequila with the passion fruit, mango, vanilla, and guajillo chili cube. This is by far one of my favorite cocktails ever, because the tequila is very smooth and the flavors in this cube are phenomenal. Throughout the course of the dinner, the cube melts and becomes a little slushie. I will always get this as one of the drinks at Alma.
For starters we got the guac trio. Now this is a rotating menu, but at the time we went, we had an apple chamo y guac, a regular guac, and one with fava beans and cheese. Very delicious. They serve the tortilla chips as a whole tortilla (fancier I guess), and it's quite well portioned.
Now every time I come here, I get the fried avocado tacos. they are an amazing Vegetarian option and soooo delicious. It comes with arroz y frijoles and some pico. Somehow, the rice is one of the best side dishes I have had. It is buttery and full, and the beans are extremely well seasoned. If you add some to the tacos, it's heavenly. My recommendation is also to not forget the lime, and any left over guac you have.
Ok, now on to one of the most unique dishes that I've had. Alma cocina has added a new veggie options (yay!) for their entree and this one is amazing. The masa dumplings are one of the first dishes that I feel like is well worth the price point and one that you would likely not make at home as easily. This dish came with 5-6 dense masa dumplings that were coated with cheese, vegetables (mushrooms, carrots, not sure what the other ones were), in a vegetable stock like soup. It's not very thick, but it definitely had a lot of flavor and the dumplings, tomato's, and other vegetables were bursting with flavor. The cheese on top of the "dumpling" definitely added another dimension to this dish and I will likely
order it again and highly recommend it for a veggie option.
for dessert, we got the tres leches with peach cobbler and cookie butter streusel. I loved it! My only suggestion for this dish was if they made the cake slightly less dense, and more spongy like tres leches I have had in the past.
And lastly, how could I forget. Parking is in the Terminus parking lot right around the corner. It lists only a two hour validation, but they give a three hour ticket. I believe they also have complimentary valet, but we did not use this.
