We’re from Houston, Texas, and even for us—people who grew up surrounded by tamales, salsa, and guacamole—this cooking class at Alma de México in San José del Cabo was something completely unique.
From the moment we arrived, the hosts welcomed us like family. The rooftop setting was picture-perfect, with colorful tables, mountain views, and that laid-back Cabo breeze that makes everything feel magical. We made fresh salsa, creamy guacamole, and traditional tamales entirely from scratch, learning authentic techniques and tasting flavor combinations that were both comforting and totally new to us.
Every detail was thoughtful, from the presentation of the dishes to the laughter shared around the table. The hosts’ passion for Mexican culture and cuisine came through in every moment. And their adorable dog, Pua, absolutely stole the show — such a sweet addition to the day!
By the end, it felt less like a class and more like spending time with old friends who love great food. If you want to experience the real heart of Cabo — its people, flavors, and warmth — don’t miss this class.
Five stars, hands down. We’d do it again in a heartbeat.
