Mexico City’s Biggest Restaurant Group Has Landed at the Grove in LA | Eater LA

"Named for 'soul', Alma is Grupo Hunan's first U.S. outpost at the Grove, taking over the former 189 by Dominique Ansel space; the family-run group calls the location "a once in a lifetime opportunity and location." I'm told it will operate as a two-floor restaurant, likely with more casual offerings and patio seating on the first floor and a fuller menu for the upstairs and terrace, with the Shawmut build team and Cuaik Arquitectos still finalizing a light, breezy, green interior similar to the group's Hacienda in Cabo. The menu is described as a fresh take on traditional Mexican cuisine that pulls heavily from Grupo Hunan's existing dishes—everything from carnitas and ceviches to tacos, birria, and desserts—with tortillas made in-house and the group's existing chefs overseeing the kitchen at the outset. Expect lunch through dinner service and a full bar featuring plenty of imported tequila and mezcal, with an anticipated arrival sometime this summer." - Farley Elliott

Lulu was amazing! My family and I had such a wonderful experience eating here on our last day in Cabo. I cannot recommend enough. We will be back.

We did the cooking class with Moji and had a fantastic time! The empanadas and tacos lured us back to recreate them ourselves. Cooking with Moji and his wife was the highlight of our trip to Cabo and we cannot stop talking about it to our friends! Everything from the setup, the margaritas, the ingredients along with the stories and jokes absolutely made our day. The recipe will live with us forever and be a staple for our game nights. This place is a hidden gem that we are so glad to have stumbled across.

So delicious and so super adorable and unique. Mike enchiladas is amazing! Each table is hand painted and each vase and the murals are all so creative and beautiful. It may be off the main strip, and it’s totally worth the two block walk. Love this place!!

Great restaurant with delicious food. We booked a massage and brunch experience through Viator that was amazing! The atmosphere was relaxing, the massages were great and the food was wonderful! It was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. If you visit, I would recommend the chicken chimichanga or the beef empanadas. Thank you so much Lulu and the rest of the staff for contributing to an amazing experience. We will definitely come back here next time we are in San Jose del Cabo!

My mother and I visited for a combo experience we booked through Viator for massages, brunch and margaritas. It was a fantastic experience in downtown San Jose del Cabo. The restaurant's ambiance is so nice and artistic, and there's a gorgeous view of the mountains from the front of the restaurant. The margaritas and authentic Mexican dishes were delicious, and the massages were so relaxing. The tour we did couldn't be booked directly through the Alma de Mexico website, but they have lots of other options - including cooking classes - that are bookable on their website. I highly recommend checking this spot out!

Such an interesting place! It's huge, and an art lovers paradise. They make the most amazing tacos and Margheritas (especially the strawberry and orange ones). The Baja Fish tacos were mind blowing! The owner is so friendly and welcoming! Definitely stop by for some fun!

A perfectly lovely and relaxed Mexican restaurant to enjoy a truly tasty midweek late breakfast. Tucked away in a quiet corner away from the bustle of the Centro, Alma has charm for days, and their generously sized delicious chilequiles and pillowy molletes felt like a big hug. The warm and welcoming staff and beautifully appointed 2nd floor outdoor dining patio make you feel like you're in a cozy secret treehouse, far from the madding crowds.
