A low-key Old Town original with European-South African touches and an Estonian backstory. Spotlighted by Phoenix New Times for Euro-style breakfasts, it’s ideal for a mellow, chef-driven morning without the party scene.

Great classic cafe in Scottsdale! Came for a quick brunch, I got the Reuben on sourdough and it was flavorful and crispy (though I wished there was a bit more meat). My partner got the corned beef hash with over easy eggs which he loved. The price point is a bit high in my opinion, but it is Scottsdale so I won’t dock them for that. We will definitely be back!!

Google
Really great and cozy restaurant w/ Estonian influence! The owner is so sweet and so are all of the staff. Great homemade recipes and delicious and fresh food. Menu options and specials updated frequently. It was such a beautiful day we sat outside. Quick and friendly service. I loved the Monte Cristo sandwich w/ corn flake french toast, sour cream and homemade berry compote! I still dream of this sandwich!!! Can't wait to come back!

Google
Good food and cool location, great patio when the weather is nice. Food was good but a little pricey, you might find more satisfying brunch for the price although if you’re looking into some cool European breakfast dishes, this place is for you. The Estonian bread and Spanish tortilla were amazing!

Google
Cute cafe for breakfast or lunch! Nice little outdoor patio. The sandwiches were large and enjoyed by our table. Toast was thick and perfectly toasted. Bacon was crispy. My potatoes unfortunately were not cooked, but the rest of our table had fully cooked and they enjoyed them. They were very understaffed as a few employees had called out sick, but they still worked hard to get everyone everything they ordered in a reasonable time. Plenty of parking in a free lot.

Google
Great little hidden spot, feels more like a no-frills diner versus all the other overly polished and underly delicious spots around Scottsdale. I had an omelette which was nice and had a great amount of cheese...but the Spanish Tortilla - which next time i'll just get by itself, better value per dollar - was PERFECTION AND DELICIOUSNESS!!! Joder tio, hostia!!

Google
Although, I did not stop to taste since the location was closed, the atmosphere itself is lovely! The mini patio allows pets (so thats a plus). This cafe would be a great place to try if your planning a day out with the girls/mom. Great location if your in town to meet with a client or low key bachelorette lunch!

Google
Best place in Scottsdale! Chitown Omlette was WOW! The spicy sausage was a game changer. The waffle with Nutella and bananas was amazing! Super cute and Great Hostess! A must try!

Google
It’s a great cafe that provides fantastic food. The seating area outside is fantastic except all the flies. Love this cute place.

Yelp
Food was delicious, portions were generous and prices were fair, my wife had the French toast, it was amazing, I had the hatch chile omelette, threw on some hot sauce and my goodness was that a meal, my daughter got an omelette as well and she loved it, her potatoes were Delicious and she is a very picky eater. The gentleman sitting next to us suggested we get bacon and I mean who doesn't love bacon.... Did not disappoint it was crispy, not too fatty but not overly crispy.... Ok shit was , anyway 10/10 would highly recommend for a quaint atmosphere with chill vibes and delicious food!

Yelp
I hate trying new breakfast places because I'm set in my ways but this place made me think otherwise. Had the 2 eggs with potatoes and toast and it was standard and awesome. Tried the Caprese Omelet as well and it was also very good! Coffee wasn't something I would drive to Scottsdale for but good either way! It had good flavor and espresso was not burned. Will go back if in the area.

Yelp
You can't find Alo Cafe easily. That may be a good thing helping preserve the character, charm, and specialness of this place. It's worth the hunt. Its foremost assets are its people and its recipes. A genuine, friendly waitress greats, seats, and serves you. You may find the genuine, friendly owner sitting at a table and ready to engage you in good conversation, too. The hatch chile omelette was wonderful. It had a unique caramelized, crunchy cheddar cheese crust. It came topped with tasty pico de gallo. Inside it had a creamy, yummy sauce. They provided wonderful hot sauce and other unique condiments to enhance to the omelette's flavor. You should try this place. Don't let the basic decor fool you. Alo's people and flavor make the place.

Yelp
Cute locally owned breakfast spot. The inside is small but it's definitely much appreciated if you're looking for a more intimate setting. I ordered the Croissant Cristo which was pretty good. Nice place to try out if visiting from out of town like I did.

Yelp
Stopped here for brunch on a Sunday morning around 10:30, we had to wait about 15 mins for our table. We got a Monte Cristo and a side of bacon to share. I've never had a monte cristo before but this one was delicious especially with the jelly it comes with! The bacon was cooked perfectly. We sat outside because we had our dog (dog friendly patio) but we did have a lot of flies all around us the whole time which wasn't ideal.

Yelp
This place was super cute and relaxing to sit at. We came close to closing time and they still sat us and we didn't feel rushed! The Horchata coffee and omelette was amazing!! The French toast was okay, I usually like it to be a lot sweeter.

Yelp
We were greeted at the door with a friendly smile and welcome! Amazing start to a fantastic find on Yelp! Our first choice had over an hour wait so we picked Alo next. At first glance, you will think hmmmm kind of a small cafe but remember these are the gems! Service was excellent and fast. Ordered our drinks then food. Horchata iced coffee and orange juice were excellent! Our food was fresh and filling! Their house special French toast- was a homerun! Tender inside crispy and crunchy outside...where can I find this in Tucson???? Our side of eggs so fresh and perfectly cooked! My daughter had the tropical French toast and she said it was so filling and fruit was amazing! My son had the hatch green chili omelette. Opened up his sinuses nicely if you know what I mean! The crema inside was so flavorful, super special addition. He really enjoyed it! Thanks for a fantastic breakfast!

Yelp
I wanted to like this place more! The building is cute and looks like it is an old one-story house. Our waitress was nice and took good care of us. The food was not very good -- burnt bacon and mediocre eggs. I was not a huge fan.
google avatar

Toni D.

Yelp
This was a cute quaint spot in the back of an house office with a really cute outside seating area. The inside seating area was small but sufficient. The menu left you salivating and in somewhat of a quagmire trying to choose. I hate now that I did not get that Belgian waffle... however I did get the Chi-town omelette and it did not disappoint. It had a little kick to it. The potatoes came out almost raw but they quickly rectified the situation with some hash browns. ALL WAS WELL.....

Bri B.

Yelp
We ordered a custom omelet and it was very filling and delicious. The side of bacon was huge! We also ordered the Spanish tortilla. Turns out it's more like a potato pie. It was good and very filling as well. The ambience is nice. Service is excellent as well. Only downside and the reason for not giving it 5 stars is that it's way too hot inside. Doesn't make the customer want to stay. All in all I recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
FOOD: 4.5/5 COFFEE: 4.5/5 VIBES: 3/5 SERVICE: 3/5 VALUE: 3.5/5 The food was delicious (aside from the blueberry muffin, which was dry). I really, really loved my hatch chile omelette and potatoes, and I loved the house made ketchup that they offered the table. I also really, really loved the house baked raisin bread - so good! I enjoyed the coffee as well! The espresso roast is on the darker side, which I didn't mind. The cafe is very small and not super vibey or aesthetic, but the outside patio is cute and spacious for nicer weather. Our service was a bit slow and inattentive, but helpful and friendly. I felt it was a bit pricey for everything overall, but I really enjoyed the food and would definitely come back.

Yelp
If I lived in Scottsdale, this would be my go-to brunch spot. It is delightful, tucked away from the hustle and bustle in a cute little brick cottage with a lovely patio. And the food-- wow. Delicious. I had the honey herb bramlet and it was just as good as I hoped it would be. Triple cream brie, herbs, and a drizzle of honey? Say no more. I got the horchata iced latte and a mimosa, which were both so good. If I weren't gluten free, I would have gotten the Estonian Dessert Bread- my friend ordered it and it looked absolutely amazing. The service here is super friendly and welcoming. I really enjoyed brunch at Alo Café and hope to come back sometime.

Yelp
I love to find these little off the beaten path gems. Found this place from Yelp and so glad we went. It's small, quaint, and peaceful. Tucked away from the hustle, the service was prompt and warm. We had the Monte Cristo and an omelet, both were good. At the suggestion of another reviewer, we tried the raisin bread and its was hands down, incredibly wonderful. Texture and flavor, nailed it. My coffee was burnt and way overpriced but hey, small world problems. Still thought this was a cool find.

Diana Z.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast cafe - very cute and a bit hidden. Located in a homey brick bldg in Old Town with a tree shaded patio. Stopped in on a Monday am and had a terrific experience. Our waitress doubled as our barista and was very friendly. I had an omelet, rusk and a hot mocha with a cute design on top. My daughter tried the tortilla espanola, horchata latte and a kringel .We enjoyed it all. Many unusual menu items to try.
google avatar

Yelp
Sheena who greeted me as I walked in and served me was wonderful! I heard great things about Alo last week by someone traveling thru Scottsdale and it's rare I hear about a coffee shop I haven't heard of so popped in. It's off the beaten path and has a cozy, casual vibe! Intimate inside, dog-friendly patio outside. Sheena made me a Nutella iced latte off the menu by request! So awesome and absolutely delicious! I ordered a BLT off the lunch menu, added cheddar cheese. Great option! Recommend popping in your support this lovely cafe.
google avatar

Lauren T.

Yelp
Cute patio, food was good too. One star off because it's pretty pricey for what you get, but overall would come back again

Charmaine B.

Yelp
The food was delicious. We both had omelets. Mine was Brie cheese, thin sliced ham and herbs. My hubby had a made to order: Swiss cheese, and avocados. Nice, friendly waitress.

Yelp
4.5/5 *Cue Beatles music* You say, "Yes", I say, "No" You say, "rusks" and I say, "Go, go, go" Oh, no! You say, "Goodbye" and I say, "Alo, alo, alo" I don't know why you say, "Goodbye", I say, "Alo, alo, alo" I don't know why you say, "Goodbye", I say, "Alo" This cafe is the embodiment of eclectic brunch! With selections from South Africa, Argentina, and Spain just to name a few regions, the menu is truly intriguing and varied. We brunched here on a lovely holiday weekday with my equally lovely Boba Sistah and sat on the patio. We split a cornflake crusted French toast and the tortilla Espagnola and also tried out some rusks. I also spied a horchata latte on the menu so naturally I had to get one of those. The horchata latte was very tasty! It had just the right amount of sweetness and had a nice balance of horchata flavor with coffee. Our server recommended dunking the rusks into coffee or tea and after receiving them I can definitely see why. The rusks were more like a super hard textured, dry biscuit. They weren't very sweet nor did they have much flavor. After dunking them in my coffee they were still pretty hard. I'm glad I tried them but it's perhaps an acquired taste? My husband really liked the ones I didn't finish and brought home though so hey, to each their own! The French toast looked and tasted amazing! It had a fabulous blend of textures from the crispy cornflake coating, to the custardy inner bread. Sadly, our first choice, the tropical French toast, was not available but the cornflake crusted French toast did come with some fruit in the form of macerated strawberries which were delicious on top of the toast. The tortilla Espagnola was like eating a potato pie, with thinly sliced taters, held together with an eggy mixture. I was lucky and snagged a spot right next to the cafe but in general, there's not a lot of parking right next to the cafe. My boba sistah was able to get a spot nearby just a short walk away though. Service was great and the patio was a peaceful place to sit and chat. If you're looking for a nice place for brunch this is it! Details: - Breakfast, brunch, and lunch served - Indoor and shaded outdoor seating - Very dog friendly! - Extra charge ($1) for non dairy milk
google avatar

Yelp
My boba sistah and I met up here for a holiday brunch. There's limited parking next to the cafe, but some additional spots in the alley/lot behind it which is where I parked. It's cute and had a nice outdoor patio, which is where we were seated. It's dog friendly and we saw a few while we were there. We started with some horchata lattes (I got mine hot, my companion got hers iced) and some rusks to accompany our drinks. Nothing special, more of a savory than sweet flavor and didn't really soften in my drink, but glad to try it. The coffee was good. I ordered the Waffle Cristo without ham, and it was a good sweet and savory combo, which is what I look for in breakfast because I can't decide! Came with some berry jam and I asked for some Tapatío for my eggs and turkey. Overall I liked my dish but the turkey and egg did cool quickly because of the weather so that wasn't fun (I can be a slow eater). My friend ordered Alo Signature Corn Flake Crusted French Toast, which was topped with berries, and I tried some - very yummy! The Tortilla Espanola was also tasty. That dish came with garlic aioli and/or Romesco sauce, both accompanied the plate well. Service was prompt and friendly and we enjoyed our time here!

Yelp
Wonderful, homemade food in a quaint setting tucked away in Old Town. Service is also consistently good.
google avatar

Kevan P.

Yelp
Attentive service. Wide variety of brunch items. Covered outdoor seating. Quality made food. The Monte Cristo was a work of art and quite tasty.
google avatar

Yelp
Sweet little hidden gem with an amazing breakfast sandwich, great coffee, great staff and an outdoor patio. A 10/10 breakfast experience for sure.

Yelp
Alo Cafe is adorable & Yelp helped me find another 5 star business while traveling! I read the reviews and knew we had to come try this lovely little breakfast spot which turned out to be no more then 10 minutes from where we were staying. I'm glad I read the reviews first as Alo isn't immediately easy to see from the main road, If I had been looking out for a sign I could have easily gone past it as it's tucked away. But since the Yelp community is so good at giving those kinds of heads up I knew what to expect & our GPS lead us to Alo Cafe without issue. We saw they had a small parking lot in front of the business and were lucky to get a spot. Alo Cafe is dog friendly so we sat on the patio with our puppy. The patio was super cozy and beautiful. Low key but we felt comfortable immediately upon seating ourselves. The service here was super friendly and feel good vibes. They are dog people which I so appreciate. They made us feel welcome and helped make suggests on the best menu items to try. From start to finish the service here was 5 stars great hospitality. Alo Cafe has a more eclectic menu and fun drink and food items I had never heard of before. I love a unique menu & variety especially when it comes to breakfast items. We opted for the tropical French toast (guava sauce & fresh tropical fruits) and then the corn flakes crusted French toast with a homemade sausage Patty. The food was to die for 10/10. You have to come here! Both French toasts were cooked to perfection and the fun little twist on each made it a more special breakfast option. The homemade sausage Patty was flavorful, neat spices and a crispy outside, heavenly. If your in Scottsdale & looking for an intimate breakfast spot I would highly recommend Alo Cafe. Dog friendly all around & lovely atmosphere, you can't beat it.

Yelp
Went to brunch today, a chill little spot. The inside is small but they have a large patio with umbrellas and misters. It's right behind Cornish Pasty if you can't find it. We sat on the patio under a large umbrella. 2 of us ordered the Corned beef which was really good and the other ordered the Chilaquiles which was good but spicy. They were very attentive to us as well and didn't push us out the door once we were done eating. Nice little spot in old town if you're looking for a brunch spot.

Pamela C.

Yelp
Hidden gem with outdoor seating which is fabulous when the weather isn't too warm. Great food and service. Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Joe S.

Yelp
Came here during superbowl weekend with as old coworker. Was the closest spot to our air bnb and good spot to check out. Small space but we got seated not long after coming in. Went with the chilaquiles which was good and friendly staff and attentive. I would defintkey come back if in area.

Jenni L.

Yelp
Amazing hidden gem!! The food is freshly made, almost as if you are eating in someone's home. Service is friendly & efficient! Love the charm of the outdoor space. Our favorite place here in Scottsdale!
google avatar

Kerry B.

Yelp
This place is an off the beaten path gem. Great menu, friendly attentive service, dog friendly patio... even a fun playlist. Tortilla espanola is incredible. Cozy, welcoming atmosphere.
google avatar

Gary W.

Yelp
A little hard to figure out where to go but worth it. Look for a low sign out front. The restaurant is in the back. A few tables. Quaint. Larissa was our server. Very attentive. My wife and AJ shared a chocolate muffin and a Monte Cristo sandwich. Great tastes for both. Good portion side benighted to share. We made a point of waving to the cook as we left and telling him we enjoyed the food.

Maridol O.

Yelp
Great food and good portions. Service was slow, but worth the wait as food was very good.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years and it never disappoints! The patio is quaint and relaxing with ample foliage and misters when it's hot. The service is always friendly and they always treat our dog like royalty. They are knowledgeable about gluten free options. The food is unique and packed with tons of flavor. My go-to is the honey herb bramlet omelette. If you've never had herbs de provence and are down to try something different, it can't be missed! The curry ketchup is also addictive and goes great with the breakfast potatoes. The vibe and menu items really make you feel like you've left AZ and traveled abroad for a meal. This is especially true during their bistro hours. The seared provolone is out of this world! Looking forward to my next visit to Alo.
google avatar

Maddy G.

Yelp
We came in on a day where the servers were short staffed due to a call off but you wouldn't have known if they didn't mention it! The staff were all so kind and the food was phenomenal! We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed our lattes in the sunshine! The chilaquiles were a new menu item and they were sooooooo good!!
google avatar

Yenny D.

Yelp
Yelped this place to grab some food as we were walking around and melting in the Scottsdale heat. There was a short wait when we got there around noon on a Saturday. We were seated outside and it was nice and cool with the umbrellas and misters going. We shared a Monte Cristo, which is served with jam and sour cream. If you mix the jam and sour cream together and spread it on your bite of Monte Cristo, it really works and is delicious!! We also shared an horchata latte, which was yummy as well. Service is friendly and fast. Single unisex bathroom available inside.
google avatar

Dave C.

Yelp
Back 6 years later and still amazing. The green chilie hatch omelet is amazing!!! Such a great spot.
google avatar

Rachelle R.

Yelp
It's a cute breakfast place. The menu offers variety including Tortilla Espagnola (though I didn't try it). I did try the tropical French toast. It was tasty. I prefer the syrup lighter. But others who love lots of syrup would enjoy it. There were sprinkles of mango, berries and strawberries. The price is competitive for the area of Old Town. It's casual and friendly place.
google avatar

Regina J.

Yelp
This little spot is perfect. Seating is limited and you might experience a wait, but once you're seated, service is good. I had the breakfast burrito. The pastrami was a nice surprise...5/5 for sure. My husband had the chilaquiles 4/5, but good. It's a little pricey, but typical for the area.
google avatar

Kellye R.

Yelp
First and foremost the food was delicious! I had the BBQ pork, 2 eggs, roasted potatoes and toast. I forgot to take a picture of the food but I'm posting a picture of my plate when I was done. That should show how good it was! The place has a very cool coffee shop brunchy vibe and the owner obviously takes great pride in putting out very good food and service. Alo's has both indoor and outdoor seating, very nice staff and quick service. If you are in the Scottsdale area around breakfast, brunch or lunch time, definitely check it out! You won't be disappointed.

Kay H.

Yelp
About a five min walk from hotel valley ho. Came in on a Wednesday morning, nice and welcoming atmosphere. Server was very nice! We never thought cream cheese and smoked salmon belonged in an omelette until today and MAN that was good! Also please try the curry ketchup because it was really good!!
google avatar

Susan M.

Yelp
Stopped in for breakfast during a recent trip to Scottsdale. The cafe was in walking distance from our place in a walkable neighborhood. I had the hatch chili omelette and it was delicious. My partner had a potato dish which he devoured quickly Very large portions! The service was helpful and friendly. Great start to a beautiful, sunny day in AZ. Thank you!
google avatar

Travis T.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this place after an event at the Hotel Valley Ho. This cafe is actually tucked in a shaded courtyard down the street from the Valley Ho. I like that it is a little distance from Scottsdale Rd where all the touristy spots are at. The cafe is named after Estonian composer Alo Mattiisen with some of the food items being inspired by Estonian cuisine. There are a variety of breakfast and lunch options here with breakfast being served all day. I got the Hatch Chile Omelet with a latte. I ended up sitting on the outside patio area because it wasn't too crowded. Other than a few mosquito bites, I had a nice time dining here,
google avatar

Victoria E.

Yelp
While in Scottsdale we had to go back for breakfast. Tiki Hubby and I shared the Green Hatch Chili Omelet with sourdough bread. Eggs where a little over cooked for us but for a slight charge we asked for some of there yummy salsa verde sauce to save the day. Eggs came with a generous portion of creamy cheese and chilis. Our waitress was sweet and helpful with ordering and taking care of us. We sat outside and enjoyed the weather before it was too hot as today will be 100 degrees. Tables all have large umbrellas.
google avatar

Chrissy L.

Yelp
I do not write reviews often however, I have to leave one because the service was so great! I wish I had of grabbed our waitresses name. We had Brunch last Saturday and I was extremely impressed with how on top of it and friendly she was! Thanks Alo for the great experience. 10/10 would recommend.
google avatar

Casey K.

Yelp
Awesome place!! Food was delicious. I had the Brie omelette and it was fab. The potatoes were 10/10!! Also their curry ketchup was bomb. Everyone who worked there was super friendly. Vibe was cute n cool too. Also we had bloody Mary's- def recommend!!!
google avatar

Kim W.

Yelp
Came for the cornflake French toast and ended up with the monte cristo! Best decision. Very unique and tasty, huge portion! The only reason i didn't rate 5 stars is the avo toast we ordered, while the flavors were good, the actual avo on the toast was pretty browned and the fruit bowl also looked a bit old and sad. But A+ for French toast and service :)
google avatar

Myrna B.

Yelp
We walked early to have breakfast and we were able to find a table. It was packed when we left. One of the best breakfast of my life. Everything was delicious Ana service was efficient and friendly. I highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Ron N.

Yelp
Food was ok. Meal prep was very slow and server did not advise of 20 minute wait to warm up the potato pie. Looks out at an alley and the back of a restaurant. Very unattractive view.
google avatar

Fastidious Weasel I.

Yelp
What a wonderful ambiance this establishment has. I feel at home and welcome, accompanied by tasteful music and great smells. I always get the Belgian waffle and some sort of latte and I am NEVER dissatisfied. The service here is immaculate and anyone who tells you different is probably being melodramatic or possibly just delusional. Coffee is splendid. Waffle splendid. Everything. Please go here; my favorite breakfast spot.
google avatar

Marc E.

Yelp
Stopped in thinking it was only a coffee shop! Much more than that. Sat on the patio with our Goldendoodle, very dog friendly and cool here. Chill music playing which makes the environment even better. We each ordered the 2 eggs any style with breakfast potatoes and your choice of toast. Must try their jalapeño apricot jelly, it was so good on the toast. FYI, it's a pretty large serving. We probably could've shared one plate. Very reasonably priced too. We also ordered oat milk lattes which were so good! Waitress was very friendly and constantly checked on us. We will definitely be back when in the area again.

Yelp
Adorable spot for breakfast/brunch. My husband liked his his salmon egg scramble and my omelette was good.
