Alora's theme is coastal Mediterranean, and the menu combines influences from many different cuisines including Greek, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Lebanese, and more! The one dish to order to get a good sampling of the appetizers was the Alora Sampler, a huge round metal platter with ramekins of hummus, tzatziki, moutabal, muhammara, and tabbouleh, along with pickled and fresh vegetables, garlic pita, mushroom dolmas, and bite-sized spanakopita, and everything on the platter was flavorful, colorful, and delicious! We got a few additional mezzes as well including Fried Burrata, a creative dish made of a fried burrata cheese ball in a creamy vodka-rosatella sauce; Cozze, a pound of mussels cooked in white wine; and Octopus, a confit Spanish octopus leg served with chorizo and potatoes over romesco sauce. The mezzes came with grilled focaccia bread on the side, which had a crispy exterior and fluffy interior, and was perfect for dipping into the vodka and white wine sauces!
The Kumpir was a Turkish streetcart-style baked potato with crispy skin and a soft interior fluffed with butter and tulum cheese. But the best part was the flavorful topping, a colorful medley of pickled cabbage, corn, olives, roasted red peppers, scallions, and red and white sauces. The Fatoush Salad was a crunchy, refreshing combination of watercress, radish, and shaved asparagus, cucumbers, and carrots, all tossed with thick, crunchy pita chips and a tangy lemon-sumac vinaigrette. This non-traditional Fatoush was so refreshing and delicious, and I especially liked the crunchy texture added by the pita chips!
Since I came with a large group, for our main, we got the Izgara Aile Tarzi, a mixed grill platter which came with each of their grilled meats: Ladolemono Chicken served over tzatziki; Adobo Shrimp Pincho served over a Seville orange salsa; Beef Shashlik (marinated filet mignon) served with chermoula; and Adana Kebab (ground lamb and beef) topped with sumac marinated peppers, served with harissa and toum. Every kebab was juicy and perfectly marinated and grilled, and I loved how each meat was served with its own accompaniments and condiments, creating a huge range of flavors!
Overall, this was a fantastic Mediterranean restaurant with a lovely setting and quick, friendly service too! Some of the highlights were the Alora Sampler, the Octopus, the Fatoush, and the Izgara (grilled meats), but you simply can't go wrong!
