Gourmetstube Hochfirst

"This fine dining restaurant in the Hochfirst, a chic Alpine hotel, has an elegant but by no means stuffy atmosphere. The small, cosy space can accommodate a maximum of 16 guests at beautifully laid tables, with views over the ski slope through large windows. Diners are free to choose the number of courses they would like from the set menu. The contemporary cuisine is appealingly uncomplicated, with dishes such as saddle of young venison with a coffee jus and black salsify. Service comes courtesy of a very friendly, attentive and well-drilled front-of-house team, who also provide wine recommendations. The wine list features over 800 (mostly Austrian) labels, as well as a good selection of champagnes." - Michelin Inspector

Really great stay at the Hochfirst for a week in January for my husbands birthday. Despite poor weather we really enjoyed our time at the hotel. We were very well looked after throughout our stay. The food was excellent with 6 course dinner but with plenty of options. The cheese buffet was outstanding. Breakfasts were fabulous. The spa area and pools are fantastic. Lots of beds around the pool and a quieter area on the lower floor. The only slight problem was that guests leave their towels on the beds when they left the spa so it appears beds are occupied when they are not these should be cleared away by staff. Loved the skiing to the door - literally took our skis off next to the ski room lift! A special mention to Donatella who went above and beyond in the restaurant she was friendly, professional and attentive and nothing was too much trouble . Also a shout out to Clara for keeping our room super clean. Think the charge of 4 euros for tap water in the restaurant was a little unnecessary. But would definitely recommend and would definitely return when next in Obergurgl.

I had a fantastic week at the Hochfirst. It couldn't have been better. The welcome I received and tour of the hotel made me feel very great. As I was travelling alone sometimes you can feel a bit awkward but all the staff were highly trained and very friendly. |My room had a balcony that wasn't facing the slopes (next time) but it was very comfortable and warm, the bed and pillows were super comfortable as you would expect, lots of storage and great shower, plus the nice underfloor heating. |The service and quality of the food was the best I've ever had in a hotel. It's a foodie's heaven. |The slopes in Obergurgl are only a few steps away but due to the time of year were a bit slushy in the afternoon getting back so I preferred to take the shuttle to and from the Hochgurgl gondola. I found the slopes there were perfect for me, wide open blues and reds and really quite quiet and obviously very beautiful. |The drinks in the bar were very good, they make a great Old Fashioned. I also had a fantastic massage in the Spa which was totally amazing. I felt like I hadn't even been skiing for a week after it. The overall spa was superb and I particularly enjoyed lying on the beds in the outside pool with the bubbles on while it was snowing. What joy. |I also met the owner on the last day and thanked him, he was very friendly. Thanks everyone for all the hard work and I look forward to seeing you again next year.

We booked this as a fairly last minute Easter ski trip and were very pleased with our decision. ||The Hochfirst is a traditional hotel which clearly takes pride in its history. Attention is paid to providing excellent service throughout. ||Our room (Panorama suite) was very well appointed with a lot storage space and quality furnishings. ||The pool/spa was very good, highlights being the outdoor pool (lovely when it snows) and the saunas/steam rooms on the lower floor. ||Food and beverage during our 7 night stay (with 2 young children) was faultless. Our waitress, (Tea? apologies if the spelling is incorrect) is an asset to their team. ||Location: excellent if you/children are enrolled at the Obergurgl ski school as the meeting point is right behind the hotel. ||Room for improvement: |• There is a kids’ club run by a wonderful lady called Moniker which our children enjoyed however, I would suggest offering extended hours as it closes at 5pm which doesn’t allow for parents to enjoy time for apres-ski. From research, I have found other hotels in the resort which offer these services until later into the evening which I feel is a selling point. ||• The entire hotel was unbearably hot. The only way to cool the room down was to have more or less all windows open throughout our stay. Word of warning: don’t wear thick clothes at dinner - it becomes very uncomfortable quickly. ||• Beware of room service charges. We ordered two Americano coffees to the room (I requested filtered coffee however was firmly advised that filter coffee is only available at breakfast) and what promptly turned up was two small Nespresso coffees and a bill for €25! I naturally thought there had been an error, alas, I was wrong. €7.50 per Nespresso plus a €10 flat rate room service charge. I really don’t believe there to be any way to justify a) €7.50 for Nespresso (terrible) and €10 for delivery to the room - it felt unjustified and frankly, unnecessary. ||• No iron/ironing board provided. If you want an item pressing, you must send it to the laundry team downstairs for a charge. Again, this feels quite unnecessary. ||Despite these points, we had a wonderful stay.

Very sophisticated hotel in a great location. Sadly we didn’t stay here but we went for an afternoon drink to bask in the glorious sunshine. My kids looked longingly at the outdoor pool which did look very nice! Unfortunately I don’t think my kids are well behaved enough for me to properly relax at this hotel - there’s definitely an air of “children should be seen but not heard” which is perfectly fine by me. It just means next time I shall have to leave them behind to enjoy my drink more!

The Hochfirst is a well-run hotel. The service and food are absolutely first class, and the spa is modern and clean. The Skiroom is well organized and very useful and you can walk straight to a lift that takes you to the slopes. I gave the room four stars because it was overheated and wasn’t possible to cool down without having the window open, and there can be some road noise as the hotel is on the main thoroughfare. Also, the gym is extremely subpar, very small with dated and incomplete equipment. Lastly, although the hotel is ski-in and ski-out, the Hochgurgl ski area is larger than the Obergurgl area thus you’ll lose time taking the gondola across the valley to Hochgurgl. Thus if you are on a short trip, staying in Hochgurgl makes more sense. But o verall, the resort has a huge gondola density which means we never waited for a lift despite being there in a German holiday week. Despite these small shortcomings, I’d still highly recommend the hotel for its cuisine and service and would gladly return.

An amazing hotel with the sweetest staff & delicious mouth watering food. Honestly the best honeymoon destination we could have chosen. Everything perfectly organised. Spa is amazing, pool has outdoor heated - very nice experience. From the moment you arrive you are pampered all through out. We were lucky enough to get an upgraded room since we told them its our honeymoon vacation and it is breathtaking. Both breakfast and dinner are top notch, a variety to choose from and deliciously made. Morning ‘newspaper’ made by the hotel is left at breakfast table to update you about the day. The view and everything. |Well done to everyone especially the staff for making this a wonderful experience.

Here’s your review translated into English with a professional and well-structured tone: The rooms are basic, with uncomfortable pillows and blankets. Housekeeping often forgets to provide towels and other essentials. The food is terrible. To reach the ski lift, you have to walk about 150 meters carrying your skis. The sauna and swimming pool close at 7:00 PM, which is quite early. While I was in the sauna, a hotel staff member entered at 6:55 PM, informed me that it was closing, left the door open, and turned off the sauna despite me still being inside. In the restaurant, despite the already limited selection and poor quality of food, the salad bar was cleared away at 8:45 PM. At €900 per night for accommodation and meals, the service and experience are far below expectations. Definitely not worth the price.

This has been by far the best skiing experience in our lives. The owners of Hoch First Hotel went out of their way to assure excellent service, attention to detail, as well as elegance of the interiors. ||The entire personnel, including the front desk as well as drivers of the shuttle, servers, sommelier, restaurant managers, janitorial staff, and ultimately the chef who even treated us to a stuffed turkey Thanksgiving dinner did an excellent job making us feel like at home. The indoor outdoor heated pool and wellness area were absolutely amazing. The ski-in and ski-out experience could not have been any better. We highly recommend this hotel experience and will definitely return in the future.
