The 19 Best Restaurants In Pittsburgh 2024

"When you come to Pittsburgh for the first time, someone will inevitably tell you to go to the overlook on Mt. Washington for an amazing view of the city. But this panorama is always better over dinner, especially when it’s at Altius. The restaurant itself sits slightly out from the cliff, giving you the illusion that you’re floating above the city’s three rivers. Besides the view, you come here for upscale dishes like creamy crab toast, chicken with perfectly crispy skin, and the rich chocolate medley dessert, all of which have bigger portions than you’d find at other fine dining spots. They also give you a snack of warm popcorn right when you sit down because, sure, this is an elevated spot with a great view, but it doesn’t take itself all that seriously. Oh my stars! This was not just going to dinner! This was a full on experience from beginning until end! We had an absolutely amazing time celebrating our wedding anniversary at Altius. The waitstaff is phenomenal. They just kept bringing out samplings of different foods. And it was all incredibly delicious. We had the crab toast which literally transports you to another dimension. The Halibut and Pork chop were divine. The tickled pink dessert was so fun and reminded me of a one of those Michelin star restaurant dishes. Thank you so much for your attention to detail and a fantastic night!!

For our first night visiting Pittsburgh, we made a reservation at Altius based on a recommendation, and I’m so glad we did. We rode the incline up and enjoyed the view from the upstairs dining room. Our server, Tom, was friendly, welcoming, and attentive, and all of the food was incredible. So glad we took his recommendations on the crab toast and pork chop. Loved the amuse bouche and complimentary raspberry shortbreads on the way out. Would absolutely come back!

My in-laws treated my wife and I to dinner at Altius for our anniversary. It was wonderful! The views are incredible, everything we tasted was delicious, and the service is wonderful. I had the Chilean Sea bass- highly recommended! My in-laws had the halibut, and they ate every bite. My wife had the chicken which she thought was delicious as well. I'm not a huge cocktail person, although what we had was tasty. Can't remember the drink names. Desserts were beautiful and delicious. All in all, this was a great place for a special night out, but I also saw a couple that were there having dinner with their toddler so I think you can feel comfortable eating here during any occasion. We were there right at 5 on a Tuesday, and by the time we left, the place had filled up. I was wearing dressy casual and fit right in.

Magnificent restaurant overlooking the confluence of the 3 rivers. A great view of nearly all of Pittsburgh belong with all of the sports stadiums. And on top of it, the food was fantastic along with the service. I highly recommend going back and try it. Stop in when you are in Pitt and you will not be disappointed

Loved Altius for a special occasion!! We ordered: white cheddar popcorn, crab toast, burrata & bread (which also came with focaccia and other dipping sauces), NY strip, chicken dinner, crème brulee, and they gave us an anniversary treat. We loved all of the food! I had a “red lotus” gin drink in honor of the white lotus finale 😂🪷 and I could’ve easily drank 5 of them. Nice touches with our experience included beautiful views, a fried oyster compliments of the chef, and a little dessert pastry with my leftover / to-go box.

I came by for dinner with my family recently. They have a dress code for "business casual", but it's never really clear what that means nowadays, so when in doubt -- maybe you can call them to ask? Judging by our attire and what some other parties were wearing, it seems reasonably flexible. Overall, the food was not bad, but not super good either. We tried a few of their appetisers - the chilled oysters and some meatballs (one of the specials of the day). The meatballs were a little bland but I liked the cheesy fillings they had. Also, we ordered the caesar salad, which was a bit disappointing. The leaves were soggy and didn't have much flavour to them. I had the filet mignon as my main course. The steak was very tender and juicy, but definitely much saltier than I expected. It was a bit too heavy to enjoy by the end of the dish. The sides of purple mashed potatoes and carrots were decent (and I think complemented the steak nicely). Other than that, we tried the duck breast, and two of their daily specials - a ribeye dish and a seafood platter. For dessert we tried the Reaching Green, which was interesting in the juxtaposition of really disparate ingredients like sponge cake, pear slices, and sesame brittle. The presentation was stellar, I'll give it that. But the overall flavour profile came across as disjointed and unorganised. Generally everything was fine-ish?, but nothing in particular stood out, and it just didn't seem like the high price point here was merited. I think you're largely paying for the admittedly quite amazing view from the restaurant. The service was lovely nonetheless -- our server was friendly and helpful with suggestions for food and drink, and the casually elegant interior was a nice environment to dine in. However, I fear that I wasn't too impressed with the food itself and probably wouldn't opt to come back.

My wife and I had dinner here tonight and it was an absolutely amazing food experience. Every single thing that was served to us was made with care and love. The Crab Toast and the Crab and Thai Curry soup were unbelievable. Ribeye special was a treat — cooked and seasoned to perfection. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening!

Google
Wonderful food and service! We had oysters, the lamb shank, sea bass, risotto, and chocolate cherry cake. Everything tasted fresh and fantastic. We were blown away by the quality. The chef has a really unique take on the dishes and incorporates some fun flavors and textures. And the service was exceptional. Well done!

Yelp
Need to know: outside is truly unassuming it's next to the ww1monument after the gate and lift if you're facing the monument and lift it's to the left. Parking is on the street or parking lot across the street for $12. I can't recommend this place enough. The service was incredible and they made each table feel truly catered to. SHOUT OUT TO ANGIE!!!! Our server was just the absolute best. She went over everything thoroughly and was very attentive. The manager came and checked on each table throughout the night and nothing took too long to come out of the kitchen. Throughout the dinner the kitchen gave little food gifts to enjoy which made us feel special haha. The food was SPECTACULAR! The chef truly knows what she is doing and the rich flavor was present in EVERYTHING that came out. The atmosphere was elevated and enjoyable. They made great choices with regards to lighting, and maximizing the windows and their effect! The whole dinner was truly a fine dining EXPERIENCE. Every person I saw walking out had a big smile on their faces. Everyone enjoyed themselves and I don't think one person felt that they gave more than they received here. The price is worth it, trust me. It was the absolute highlight to our trip. We ordered: the spicy crab bisque, Australian lamb rack with a side of chimi churri, filet mignon with a side of crab, nutty by nature, chai icecream, and banana dessert. For drinks we ordered: summer sangria, the non alcoholic fresh-start, and rose prosecco. After dinner drinks we ordered espresso and decaf cappuccino. Everything was spectacular! Only constructive criticisms: the biscotti served with our cappuccino/espresso wasn't so great/enjoyable. The spicy bisque was a little too spicy for me but the flavors otherwise were incredible! Personal opinion: I found the graffiti art to be misplaced it didn't flow with the rest of the ambiance or decor...Though still a nice piece.

Yelp
Altius is an excellent fine dining experience in Pittsburgh. Wonderful service, delicious food, and an amazing view. I have come here for dinner several times and it was excellent. It is in the more expensive side, but they do give you a great experience. In terms of recommendations, I find their steaks to be better than their fish dishes.

Yelp
I have been wanting to go here for years, and it was truly worth the wait! Genuinely the most incredible meal I've had. The menu was not overwhelming with options, but overwhelming in the sense that everything looked good and I wished I could order the whole menu. We started with the bread and butter/sun dried tomato combo, steak tartare, then I got the chilean sea bass, and my boyfriend got the tomahawk pork chop. The soup taster in between meals was incredible, I hope they add it to their menu in the fall. Our service was great, we were checked on multiple times throughout the night to ensure we were having a wonderful dining experience. The restaurant itself was gorgeous, plenty of light with wonderful views. I can't wait for my next visit

Yelp
This was the third time that we had drinks at the marvelous Altus Restaurant in the last 5 years. The Duquesne Incline drops you off at the top a short distance away. The atmosphere and stunning view make it a key destination. We inspected the dinner menu and will eat there on our next visit! The service was friendly and timely with excellent cocktails! Don't miss this fabulous location!

Yelp
Elevated food with a view. Altius goes above and beyond to make dinner an experience worth remembering. It starts with tables that focus on the gorgeous views atop Mount Washington. The two story dining room makes sure everyone can enjoy seeing downtown and the north shore with large windows and most tables angled towards them. The drink I ordered (Reverse Psychology) was a light, semi sweet, and flavorful take on an "Old Fashioned". We started with two classic Caesar Salads. The fresh anchovies, cheese and freshly made croutons is above a standard creamy dressed Caesar. It feels like a meal in itself. I ordered the Tomahawk Pork Chops and my wife ordered the special of the day, a fresh Halibut. The pork chop is very generous, so unless you've not eaten anything else all day, be prepared to enjoy it the next day and beyond. It was tender with beautiful butter and aioli topping with purple potato's and crisp asparagus. We finished the night with espressos paired with a creamy and decadent creme brûlée. The staff even brought out a small treat to celebrate my birthday, which was a wonderful surprise. Altius continues to rise to the highest level to stay atop the charts and Mt Washington.

Yelp
I'm always impressed here! From the food, to the service to the view, everything is top notch. We went and shared a few appetizers, entrees and drinks. The appetizers were so fresh and used seasonal ingredients. The duck entree was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The nightly special of the halibut was fresh, and so buttery. Their desserts are works of art, and taste delicious. We always have exceptional service here. Definitely a treat your self kind of place but most definitely worth the price!

Yelp
I got the salmon, which was great (5/5)! The hummus was an excellent addition to the dish, and it was beautifully presented! They also gave us free popcorn, mini cones with a salmon cream in them, and brownies, all of which were good and a nice touch (4/5). The popcorn made it a unique experience since it is definite to out of the ordinary to have it at a fine dining restaurant. The service was good (4/5), and the staff were quite knowledgeable about the menu. The view of Pittsburgh is incredible, and the restaurant fully takes advantage of it, making this a top fine dining choice in Pittsburgh (5/5).

Yelp
I love this place. Been twice for my birthday and it has only gotten better. Coming a little before your reservation to get a drink at the bar is recommended to extend your view time of the Pittsburgh skyline. The bacon cheddar pierogies are so amazing I wish I could've gotten them as a meal on their own. The mozzarella meatballs were unique and delicious. Everything on the table was incredibly flavorful, and I love that they give you free appetizers like the popcorn and bread (my favorite). Service was great, and everything came out at perfect times. We definitely ordered too much to eat, but leftovers were just as good as the night before.

Yelp
This spot is touted as one of the best restaurants in the city for a reason! The views of the city are incredible and the service is amazing. The staff is super attentive and sweet. Incredible service. The wine selection was really nice, we liked the bottle we picked a lot. The food was good but not mind blowing. I really liked my sea bass but my party's food was only ok. The duck and salmon were ordered to be medium rare but came out medium. I liked the tomahawk pork since it was tender but flavor wise it was only ok. I like the amuse bouche they give you in the beginning, it was this beautiful mushroom soup. There's a lot of little surprises that are cute but ultimately distract from how normal the food is compared to the price. You get a flavored popcorn at the beginning. The bread you get in the beginning didn't have a lot of flavor. The small dessert they give you at the end tasted like it came from a box. Definitely nice to experience it once but I probably won't be back again, sadly.

Yelp
What a nice atmosphere for any occasion with an amazing view of the city. Street parking is tough to find; through there is a paid lot and valet. Reservations are highly recommended and dress is business attire. To start, we were given season popcorn which was a nice touch. Then we were brought freshly baked focaccia bread with a light crunch on the outside and airy on the inside. The roasted beet salad was so fresh and all of the flavors highlighted each other. The gnocchi was not doughy or heavy and the seafood was perfectly cooked and tender. The homemade ice cream and sorbets are worth saving room to eat as a nice finish to an amazing meal and experience. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Impeccable food, service and view. An easy five stars any night of the week! We started off with charcuterie and took home a sizable portion. The truffle cheese was phenomenal! Next I had the she crab soup, which included a mini toast point with chives and some type of spreadable creamy component - chef's kiss! For entrees we had the ribeye special, with mushrooms, green beans and horseradish mashed potatoes. I had the Chilean seabass over crab risotto, which sounds like it would be incredibly rich but somehow was perfectly balanced. As you can see, we started remembering to take photos by dessert, both the raspberry sorbet and mint chocolate chip ice cream were incredible. Highly recommend for a celebration type meal.

Yelp
Come for the view and stay for the food. Came here with some friends for a good non stressful time. 1) Place is excellent. Extremely fancy, welcoming, and clean. 2) The views are worth the price. Bring your big wallet. 3) The food is excellent! Every dish was great! This place is a perfect place to bring friends, colleagues, and that special someone in your life. It is expensive but don't let that scare you. Great place! Great food! Excellent service! Amazing city view. Love it!

Yelp
Best views of Pittsburgh & I get to ride a tram to it? Yes, please! Altius in Pittsburg is a must visit restaurant but get a reservation. It offers some of the best views of the city. While enjoying dinner, the city works below you. It's a stunning backdrop for dinner. I had a wonderful evening, enhanced by the super attentive staff who made sure every detail was perfect. I decided to play chef and customized their burrata salad by adding shrimp and a scallop. What a total power play. Loved it!

Peter S.

Yelp
Food Meatballs were excellent - a little bit less salty would make them best ever - recommended. Crab toast was delicious Caesar salad was great Halibut was very well cooked - the risotto is a little too rich for my taste and there is a lot of it The crème brûlée is to die for - best ever Overall great dinner but expect it to be pricey Service - great, attentive, good timing of food readiness even though the place was full Ambience - great view from Mount Washington over the city - got to view a thunderstorm over the city which was spectacular
google avatar

Yelp
The view was amazing. The service was delightful and the server did a great job leading us into what to order, she was an expert! The food itself was lick your plate amazing. Every dish we tried was perfect. If you have a special occasion- splurge at Altius!

Yelp
What a treat! We were able to get reservations for a a Thursday during the holidays and are so glad we were able to finally try Altius. We were seated right away upon arriving and were welcomed with some buffalo popcorn. While we made a decision on an appetizer and entrees, we were treated to house made bread, which was delicious. For our appetizer, we had burrata, which was very fresh. For my entree, I had the duck breast, which was very crispy yet still juicy inside. The duck was served with candied pecans and sweet potato farro risotto. My husband had the tomahawk pork chop and WOW. Huge and probably the juiciest pork chop I've ever tired. Our drinks were also fantastic. Overall, loved the experience and would definitely recommend for a nice evening out or to celebrate an occasion.

Yelp
If I could give 10 Stars, I'm not sure that would be enough! Honestly, one of the most special places I have ever visited. When all the stars align--gracious, friendly and extraordinarily attentive staff, food presented so beautifully after being so well explained, libations prepared expertly and quickly and then the flavors--OMG just delicious all set within one of the finest views of any restaurant located in any city in America. Honestly, this place has it all. It starts and ends with the team of professional staff--we enjoyed Melissa as our lead server with assists from several others--each and all were incredibly friendly and polite and on their game like never before--they are just awesome! Melissa shared some specials and we had every one of them with our group of 8. Added to that was the pork chop and the ribeye. Both carved--the ribeye was boneless and the pork off the bone. Flavor and presentation weee both off the charts. The special burrata and also the meatballs were a hit--4 times over! Whenever our group ordered a drink--poof, it was there in seconds. So, overall AMAZING!

Yelp
I had the absolute best time at Altius for dinner! I've only been here once before and it was Valentine's Day last year hahaha! They were named one of the most romantic restaurants in Pittsburgh! It is the perfect date night spot. We got Complimentary Popcorn, Complimentary Cone with cheese (I don't remember what she called), Complimentary Focaccia, Chianti, Meatballs, Filet mignon, and Chocolate medley. Everything was absolutely delicious! Nothing disappointed The potatoes purée with the filet was the best I ever had. I could eat giant bowls of it. The service was phenomenal as well! If you've never been here you have go for your next special date night!

Yelp
Terrible experience. The staff was rude and unprofessional. We felt completely unwelcome. Definitely not coming back and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Yelp
This is the 3rd time I've eaten here and was very disappointed. My sea bass was extremely salty and inedible. I should have sent it back but after a few bites did not want to eat anything. It was in a soupy vegetable medley. Service was very slow. Not worth going back for me.

Yelp
Altius is a 5 star restaurant ALL around! Everything about Altius is top notch from the view of Pittsburgh to the Food and customer service! This is a MUST visit if you live in Pittsburgh or you're visiting! First off, let's talk about the view! This is the BEST view of the city. Mt. Washington is known for its views, and this is right next to one of the inclines, so you know it has the perfect view of Pittsburgh. You can ask for a view seat, but they will not seat you there unless you ask because the seats are minimal. Altius does have a top and bottom floors with views of the city on each level! They are VERY attentive at Altius. You could say they are almost a little too attentive. We wanted to eat a slow meal with friends and hold off on our order. Our waitress kept coming back SEVERAL times to check on us. It was appreciated but definitely overkill. Now, their wonderful food...First, the meal starts off with a little bit of popcorn. They switch up their flavor EVERY day, so it's always new. We had a dill pickle flavor, and it was surprisingly good. Little touches like this turns a good restaurant into a great one! For an appetizer, we had their crab toast. There were HUGE lumps of crab on this toast, and it was absolutely delicious. This was followed by a round of focaccia, which was soft and perfectly baked an included some phenomenal dipping sauces and butter. An amuse bouche also preceded the main meal. This is a small dish that is an added bonus. It's usually a dish that the chef is experimenting with so he/she let's the customers try. Ours had an interesting taste and not something I would normally order, but I appreciated the extra bite. Almost everyone at the table ordered the Chilean Sea Bass, and we were so glad that we did! There was so much complex flavors in this dish; I could have kept eating it all night! We were so full, so we didn't end up get dessert, BUT they gave us a complimentary brownie bite to-go which was a nice added touch! This restaurant knows how to get to the hearts of its customers...with great food and great service! This restaurant is ALWAYS a good idea, and it's perfect for a special celebration or a night out on the town!

Yelp
A must try restaurant at the top of Mount Washington!! The view is incredible. The service is outstanding. The food is delicious. I was lucky enough to celebrate my partner's birthday at this restaurant with a reservation in advance. Altius is gluten friendly, offering gluten free rolls and options for diners. My boyfriend and I were risky this evening and tried beef tartare for the first time! In the dark, you can't really tell that it's raw meat. The combination of flavors were fresh and mixed well with the hint of mustard and egg yolk. Food and drinks were out of this world. My partner ordered the fish, which was good. I ordered the lamb dish, and loved every bite. Everything was well seasoned. The menu is pricy, but worth the investment (compared to similar restaurants at this price point). Looking forward to going again! tldr food 4.5/5 service 4.5/5 ambiance 5/5

Yelp
Very very good. The food was delicious. The service was spectacular. The view was beautiful. I will definitely return in the future.

Raquel Lynn H.

Yelp
While Altius is very good, I feel like if you've been to "old Altius" (prior to the car crashing into them) something has changed. It somehow doesn't feel as special. The food is great, but somehow not what it used to be. The desserts used to be the best part of dinner and we haven't enjoyed the desserts lately. I can't put a finger on it and if you hadn't been before you would never know.

Yelp
The restaurant is beautiful. The view is stunning. Luke at the bar is amazing, so friendly and knowledgeable. I would go back just for his recommendations and energy. Female server studying chemistry graduating in December was fantastic. Food was extraordinary. Wine (reccomend by Luke) VGS was phenomenal!!! Just a thought--the gentleman at the front desk wasn't very friendly. Since the front desk staff creates the first and last impression for guests entering your business, it's a crucial role. I'd suggest remembering how important it is to represent your coworkers and the chef, especially when the business is doing well and is successful.

Yelp
Another impeccable meal at Altius. I feel that I've already spoken about the exceptional quality of the food, so let me take a moment to comment on the exceptional staff. Not only is the waitstaff knowledgeable and friendly, they're more than happy to help you make meal decisions, customize your order, and make sure your other requests are all taken care of. This time we were seated at a table on the lower level, both on the same side, across the aisle from the windows with that spectacular view of downtown. As we wrapped up our main course, the manager asked if we'd like to move to the windows for dessert -- so we did. I didn't even know that was an option, but of course it was at a five-star restaurant like Altius. I recently heart that Altius was one of two Pennsylvania restaurants that landed on this years Top 100 Restaurants in the Country by Open Table, and I'm not the lease bit surprised. Altius is excellent in every way. So if you're looking for a fancy night out and have the money to spend, do yourself a favor and stop in. You won't be sorry. "Altius" means "higher" in Latin, which is fitting for an establishment always trying to push their quality to the higher and highest levels. And one seated on Mount Washington.

Yelp
My dining experience at Altius was hands down EXCEPTIONAL & EXQUISITE from start to finish. Everything about the restaurant is unique, from the ideal location at the top of a hill which overlooks the entire city of Pittsburgh - right through to the top tier service!! One of my favourite experiences dining here (which is also very dear to my heart) is the restaurants focus on sourcing sustainable, organic, locally produced products throughout their food menu and their beverages. Knowing that this much care and attention was not only placed on the amazing decor, but also focus to ensure environmentally responsible practices with their entire business - is what truly made me fall in love with this restaurant. Whether celebrating a special occasion, or looking to treat yourself to fine dining - Altius is your place!! I cannot wait to visit Pittsburgh again to come back and sample more off of their amazing menu. The highlights for me were the Ōra King Salmon Ceviche and Wild Alaskan Halibut!!! 10/10... You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
What a beautiful space. It's not big so I recommend reservations. However we were able to sit at the bar early in the evening without one. The view is stunning even in daylight. I can only imagine at night. The popcorn at the beginning was fun and good along with the bread and dipping oil. The cocktail list was creative and there were no bad options. The scallops app was delightful and my duck entree was delicious. The sides/accompaniments really added the wow factor to the dishes. My husband's steak was unfortunately a low point. He ordered it medium rare. The bartender made a huge point about making sure this got communicated to the kitchen even going as far as asking if it was ok to error on the rare side instead of risk overcooking to which my husband said absolutely yes. Even after all this, the steak still came out well done. Not even close to medium rare. Just epically over cooked especially after all the effort to communicate how much we didn't want this to happen. The bartender was mortified and offered to remake it but we didn't have time. He did send us home with a couple brownies complimentary which was nice. Service was top notch but I can't give 5 stars with such a fail on the steak.

Yelp
The food was amazing! Started with oysters and the lobster gnocchi, both were superb. I had the filet and my boyfriend had the tomahawk pork chop. Waitress was so nice and even brought us a little dessert since she knew we were celebrating our anniversary. Not one thing was less than amazing.

Yelp
Altius never fails to disappoint. The restaurant location overlooking the city creates incredible table views, each staff member is kind and helpful, and the interior is beautiful. Moreover, the food quality and creativity is spectacular. Before I discuss the food, I wanted to say that during my 1st visit to Altius, I expected the restaurant to be a tourist trap due to it's location above the Duquesne Incline, but I was completely wrong. A visit here is worth every penny. For my most recent visit, I ordered the Chilean Seabass. The crust on the fish was some of the best I ever had, and the risotto paired with it was perfectly creamy. The experience was made even better by the complimentary dill flavored popcorn, which was addictive, and the fresh bread with sundried tomatoes and ramp pesto butter. Each item was a 5/5.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible experience. I ordered the steak special (not on the menu), and I can honestly say I've never paid that kind of money for a piece of meat that came out burnt. I wanted to send it back, but my wife urged me not to make a scene since it was a special occasion, and we had family with us. The lack of attention from the cook was shocking, and the expeditor should have caught the issue before it ever reached our table. A complete disappointment.

Yelp
This was an unbelievable culinary experience. Each course was amazing and outstanding. The chef was very attentive to people in our party who are vegan, and the experience blew me away. If you are lucky enough to get the chance to go here, I highly recommend. The view is also spectacular!

Yelp
4.5 stars overall. Altius is the Latin word for "higher," and it reflects the restaurant's physical location on Mount Washington and also a dedication to high standards for food and service. I believe that Altius first opened in the year 2014. This restaurant serves contemporary American cuisine in an upscale environment (the dress code is business casual). Examples of current menu items are charcuterie, oysters, halibut, lamb, pork chop, salmon, caviar, and creme brulee. The restaurant also offers an extensive menu of wines and other beverages. For several years, I have eaten meals off and on at Altius. Most recently, for my birthday this month, I made a reservation for two people for dinner. My reservation was for 5 PM, so I felt surprised when the restaurant texted me at 4:24 PM that my table was ready. My husband and I arrived early, and the host promptly seated us at a table that was not up against the windows but still provided a wonderful view of the city skyline below. Soon, our waitress arrived. Throughout our meal, she spoke professionally to us, and she timed our courses perfectly. Here are my reviews for my husband's and my foods: Free appetizers - $0 - 5 stars - Our waitress gave us popcorn, tomato shooters, and focaccia for free. I enjoyed the freshness and flavors of all three. Steak tartare - $17 - 5 stars - The beef was served with relish, egg yolk, aioli, baguette crostinis, and edible flowers. Pork belly - $19 - 4.5 stars - The pork belly had a satisfying flavor of fat and salt. It was accompanied with slaw and peaches. My husband and I thought that the peaches overpowered the pork, so we preferred to eat them separately. Filet mignon - $65 - 4.5 stars - This filet mignon was cooked medium as I had requested. On the side were truffled potato purée, carrots, and butter. Ribeye - $80 - 4.5 stars - This ribeye was a large size, and it was cooked as my husband had requested. It was topped with mushrooms. He enjoyed the same sides of truffled potato purée and carrots. Crab and scallion risotto - $12 - 4.5 stars - This risotto was cooked well. I tasted the scallions more than the crab. Birthday dessert - $0 - 5 stars - For my birthday, the waitress brought me a free dessert that was chocolatey mousse inside a crispy crust. In addition, at the end of the meal, the waitress brought two free brownies that tasted very chocolatey. Plum cake - $16 - 4 stars - I seldomly eat plums for dessert, so I felt compelled to order this plum cake. Cake was topped with mascarpone frosting, plum gelee, edible flowers, and large chunks of plums. Strawberry-pretzel cake - $16 - 4 stars - Cake was topped with cream-cheese mousse, strawberry gelee, strawberry cremeux, strawberries, and edible flowers. The pretzels seemed to be baked for a bit too long. For our beverages, we drank sparkling water ($3 each) and a glass of riesling ($14). Our total bill for two people was $245 *plus* tax and tip.

Yelp
Great innovative menu. Food is so fresh and seasoned just right. The bar staff is amazing. Service is top notch. Yes it's expensive but so worth the view and quality. I had the duck. Best I have ever had. Apps are sizes right for a table of four. I wish I could save room for desert but could not. Very clean and pretty

Yelp
Yelp reviews brought us to this restaurant when we visited our daughter, who was taking a summer camp at UPitt. First of all, the view was amazing. We had a reservation at 8pm, so we saw Pittsburgh's sunset and night view. I wish I had a table by the window, but our table was not bad. Four of us can still enjoy the phenomenal view. Our server, Ellen, was very professional, dedicated, detail oriented, prompt, clear, and polite. Ellen knows the menu well, and gave us some highlights of the menu and the tonight's specials. I told Ellen that our teenagers do not eat cheese. She carefully served us different complimentary appetizers between my teenagers and husband & me. I hope the owner will come across to this post because Ellen is such a great asset to your restaurant. My son had the NY strip steak with chimichurri sauce. My daughter had Chilean sea bass. My hubby originally ordered the tonight's special, scallops and shrimps, but was sold out. So he changed it to the salmon. I had another tonight's special, which was the ribeye. Each of us liked what we ordered. We did share a bit of all dishes and agreed that the ribeye was the winner of the night. It was very tender and juicy. For desserts, my hubby and I shared the key lime pie, which was recommended by Ellen. My two teenagers shared the ice cream/sorbet . They picked the raspberry, lavender and I forgot the third flavor. We highly recommended the house made ice cream/ sorbet, especially the lavender flavor. We also received a complimentary chocolate mousse for anniversary although we did not ask for. Plus everyone got a small brownie to take home. This is a very nice touch. All in all, both the food and service at Altius are comparable to some fine dining experience we had in NYC. If I have to compare the restaurants around the same price range, I will choose Altius, which offers the service, food quality and value. I hope you also have a great dining experience at Altius.

Yelp
First, the good: ambiance! Absolutely amazing. Couldn't ask for a better view. This is definitely what the place has to offer and it serves it up good. The service was also good. The bad: the actual food. The only thing we were impressed by was the popcorn and an amuse-bouche that was blatantly ripped off from a more famous restaurant. The steak was horribly underseasoned and not even well cooked. The dessert was bland and dry. The food was OK, but not at ALL what we expected for such an extremely high price point. We have eaten at all levels of dining and were severely underimpressed. We will not return and frankly, do not recommend the place.

Yelp
My husband and I had reservations here on a Saturday night at 8:45pm. We were seated on time. We actually got there a little early and waiting in the bar. The bartender that waited on us was extremely nice, making drink and wine suggestions. The drinks were very good. We really enjoyed talking to him. We were seated at one of the window tables on the bar level. The view was beautiful. Our server was a really nice person...he made great recommendations for dinner and had a wonderful sense of humor. He checked on us frequently and was very attentive. Dinner was good. The winter salad was delicious. My husband had the oysters that tasted fresh but were very small. We both enjoyed the pork chop which was huge. They were gracious enough to let us sub in veggies we liked. Dessert for us was the pavlova, and it was delicious, too. We would definitely recommend this restaurant experience. A special shout-out to the young lady at the hostess stand who waited with us for our uber to show up...very kind.

Yelp
Altius is one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh! The view is unbeatable, the food is delicious, and the staff is so amazing. Our server was super helpful and very knowledgeable on the menu. I love when multiple people come to clear the table or bring food to the table at once. The crab toast appetizer is a MUST. Their oysters were super good and they're always changing where they get them from. The crab crepes that came with the sea bass were super unique and tasty. I also tried a new wine and was blown away. I highly suggest the "Austin 'Barrel No.20', Cabernet Sauvignon" Every time I dine at Altius it exceeds my expectations!

Yelp
Took my son and sister here for a memorable dinner experience before leaving him for his second year at UPitt. Memorable was exactly what we got. From confirmation of the reservation to the goodbye for the host was 5 star. We walked up to the doors and greeted with a warm welcome by a host and manager. We sat at the bar while we waited for our table. The view is just breathtaking. The restaurant decor is modern yet simple and elegant. We sat in the lower section of the restaurant next to the window. Truffle popcorn and focaccia bread with pimento spread and herbed butter was brought over to us immediately. Both were so good! Our server was Jaqueline was just an absolute doll. She was so great and patient with us. She thoroughly explained the menu and specials. Answered many of our questions and we had a lot. We ordered the charcuterie and the oysters for our appetizers. The meats and cheeses were so gooooood. The oysters were so fresh and delicious tasted just like the ocean. Ridiculous how good it was! We went big for dinner!!! My sister and I both had the ribeye special with a a beautiful velvety mushroom sauce, truffle purple mashed potatoes with French string bean. It was honestly one of the most amazing steaks I've ever eaten. So flavorful, tender basically melted in your mouth. My son was feeling very adventurous and decided on trying the Colorado Lamb Rack with lavender honey jus lie, Parmesan and herb ricotta gnocchi, broccolini, whipped garlic lebhen, Roma tomato confit. Dessert he was the only with room, so he ordered the homemade vanilla bean ice cream with a chocolate drizzle. They also brought us out a little chocolate mousse tart the was fabulous as well. As a parting gift we each got a little brownie to go. This was definitely an experience we will all remember for years to come.

Yelp
Overall awesome experience dining at Altius last evening. We were promptly sat (with a reservation, of course). Our waiter, Chris, was attentive and offered great advice on what to order. We were not disappointed in any of our choices. I've dined a few other places with great views of Mt Washington, but I think Altius has the best. I also may be a bit biased as our table location was unbeatable. Overall, I cannot wait for my next trip here. This is definitely going on my list of Pittsburgh recommendations!

Yelp
Altius has been and always will be my fave spot to go to for a special occasion (or any occasion someone wants to take me - because I will go ANYTIME with a huge smile on my face!) the service is always outstanding as well as the food created by the chef. An experience you will remember with a view you cannot forget. I have yet to have any issues with this spot. 100/10 will be back again, and again!

Yelp
Didn't have a reservation and had to sit at the bar but that didn't matter. First class treatment by all. Chef sent out a couple pre dinner treats to us. My husband ordered Cowboy pork chop and I got the sea bass. Both meals wonderful Then we were given a brownie treat for the ride home.
