"When you come to Pittsburgh for the first time, someone will inevitably tell you to go to the overlook on Mt. Washington for an amazing view of the city. But this panorama is always better over dinner, especially when it’s at Altius. The restaurant itself sits slightly out from the cliff, giving you the illusion that you’re floating above the city’s three rivers. Besides the view, you come here for upscale dishes like creamy crab toast, chicken with perfectly crispy skin, and the rich chocolate medley dessert, all of which have bigger portions than you’d find at other fine dining spots. They also give you a snack of warm popcorn right when you sit down because, sure, this is an elevated spot with a great view, but it doesn’t take itself all that seriously. I recently dined at Altius in Pittsburgh, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The service was impeccable, with the staff being both attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring that every detail of our meal was perfect. The view from Altius is simply breathtaking. Overlooking the city skyline, it provides a stunning backdrop that enhances the dining experience. It's the perfect spot for a special occasion or a memorable night out. The food was outstanding. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. From the appetizers to the desserts, every bite was a delight. The menu offers a great variety of options, and everything we tried was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend Altius for anyone looking to enjoy excellent service, a spectacular view, and delicious food. It truly is a gem in Pittsburgh!

We visited this restaurant while on vacation. The views were no doubt some of the best in the city. The service was on point! The server was knowledgeable about the menu and able to offer wine pairings as well as understanding of gluten allergies. They offered alternatives that were gluten free. I would like to see a dessert option that was gluten free other than ice cream. I was a little disappointed with the execution of my entree. My duck was over done and at $60, I would expect it to be perfect. I will say that the flavors of the dish were delicious. My husband’s sea bass was on point! Its presentation was spot on and paired perfectly with the risotto. He also loved the shrimp and scallop appetizer. Overall a lovely experience.

Arrived a little early. Took advantage of the valet parking and enjoyed bar seating, with very nice service, until our table was ready. All tables on at least the first floor had great views of downtown Pittsburgh and a manager was making rounds checking in on everyone which was excellent. Our food was amazing. Steak and a halibut dish were delicious. The salads were very good. The dessert was gorgeous and I heard another dining on the beauty of hers as well. Excellent service. High end quality without a stuffy atmosphere. Relaxed and contemporary.

Everything about this restaurant is spectacular. The views, the service and the food were all excellent. The complimentary popcorn was so tasty, and the focaccia bread was warm and so good. We loved the sun dried tomato dipping sauce for it. We had the crab toast appetizer which was amazing. The pork chop was the biggest and perfectly cooked I’ve ever seen. The special with crab, scallops and shrimp was perfect. Highly, highly recommend this restaurant for a fine dining experience that won’t disappoint.

First of all, the view was amazing. Our family had a reservation at 8pm, so we saw Pittsburgh's sunset and night view. I wish I had a table by the window. Our server, Ellen, was very professional, dedicated, detail oriented, prompt, clear, and polite. Ellen knows the menu well, and gave us some highlights of the menu and told us the specials of the night. I told Ellen that our teenagers do not eat cheese. She carefully served us different complimentary appetizers between my teenagers and husband & me. My son had the NY strip steak with chimichurri sauce. My daughter had Chilean sea bass. My hubby originally ordered the tonight's special, scallops and shrimps, but was sold out. So he changed it to the salmon. I had another tonight's special, which was the ribeye steak. Each of us liked what we ordered. We did share a bit of all dishes and agreed that the ribeye was the winner of the night. It was very tender and juicy. For desserts, my hubby and I shared the key lime pie, which was recommended by Ellen. My two teenagers shared the ice cream/sorbet . They picked the raspberry, lavender and I forgot the third flavor. We highly recommended the house made ice cream/ sorbet, especially the lavender flavor. We also received a complimentary chocolate mousse for anniversary although we did not ask for. Plus everyone got a small brownie to take home. This is a very nice touch. All in all, both the food and service at Altius are comparable to some fine dining experience we had in NYC. We will be back again.

This is the best fine dining in Pittsburgh. It has incredible views of the city and the service is phenomenal. The bar is first come first serve if you can't snag a reservation. I highly recommend the off menu specials they are always fantastic. The cocktails are also on point. Definitely stop by if you're in the area.

Fantastic food, service, and views. They even made our anniversary special. In addition to a wonderful dinner, we got the spring fling desert. I've never had any desert look and taste so good. We will definitely come back!

Altius boasts all of the makings of a 5-star restaurant, however, they fell slightly short of our expectations with their food. We sat downstairs and the view from the bar and our table was spectacular. We did have a later reservation and I wish we could’ve seen sunset but nevertheless, the views are immaculate of the city of Pittsburgh jf you have a clear night. The experience was wonderful. Our server was attentive without being overly intrusive of our night, and he was very knowledgeable about all of the dishes and drinks we had requested. Service was a 5/5, as well as the bar drinks. As for the food, it fell a bit short of our expectations. The complimentary popcorn was to die for - my husband wanted to ask for more it was that good! Appetizers were very good, as well as the dessert, however our main courses were “meh”. Part of my dish was cold while the other side was piping hot… it was a disjointed plate. My husband’s steak lacked any flavor and for the amount you’re paying, it was disappointing. *I will mention that we did go on the Friday of Valentine’s Day weekend (my birthday is unfortunately a few days before) so we weren’t sure if that’s why the food was subpar because the restaurant was packed. Our meal was almost $500 (with tip) for 2 people so be prepared to spend a pretty penny if you go. I would go again and give them another chance!
