"Here’s one major reason why celebrity chef Jose Garces shuttered his Battery Park City version of Amada: The Philly-based restaurateur has been wildly underwater at several restaurants — with several lawsuits against him regarding finances and one investor couple alleging that the chef was running “a Ponzi scheme.” Garces, who gained acclaim for tapas at the Philadelphia outpost of Amada, opened the New York location in 2016 primarily because a shuttered restaurant lost tons of money, and he “needed ways to make up that shortfall,” the chef told Philadelphia magazine in a lengthy profile. The magazine suggests that Garces had become “even less discerning in the opportunities he chose” when he pursued the NYC project due to his financial problems. But instead of boosting the rest of his businesses, Amada in New York took way longer than predicted and cost Garces an extra $1.3 million in construction costs, he told the magazine. Then once Amada opened, it didn’t quite catch on despite Garces’ cred and appearances on TV. It closed at the end of March this year." - Serena Dai

Everything here was awesome. The paella with squid ink beautifully done. All the appetizers were yummy and the seasonal sangria was so refreshing.

Absolutely great service, as well as excellent food and drinks. We tried a few of the small plates, each exquisitely prepared. However, the lobster paella was the best in the menu, bar none. It’s likely good for a group of 4 because it was a lot for just two of us. I will say, it was still excellent the next day after heating it up in the microwave. Overall fantastic experience and will be coming back.

Visited Amada for restaurant week. Great food and great service. Food is served tapas style. Good place for a birthday dinner or a special occasion.

Went during restaurant week...a lot of food! It was all very tasty. Didn’t love the pernil dish, but the octopus, shrimp, and everything else was good. Whatever the dessert was, it was awesome! Get it. Great service, nice atmosphere, I’d recommend it.

Great food and great service. Of course the tapas style won’t stuff you to the brim, but it’s still a great experience.

We ordered half the menu, most of it was good, some of it was great. The greats: - Charcuteria Mixto - Ensalada de Jamon - Albondigas - Picado (!!!) - Lamb Frites (!!!)

Been there twice - the first time, everything was great (food, drinks, service, ambience) and the 6 of us had a great evening. By the second time (8 of us), the food, service - and even their selection of gins - was much more standard that could not warrant such high prices. Will give it a third try though...

Poor service , super small portions and extremely overpriced. What bothered me the most is that the service was just terrible ! Our server forgot to order our appetizer so by the time we asked where was our appetizer other servers were already bringing the tapas and he also forgot to order one item from the tapas we had ordered . This is our second time here and our last one. My advice? Proper server training , bigger portions will go a long way.
