Authentic Spanish tapas, paella, charcuterie, wine list
"This Spanish tapas bar has been around for a while, but is still one of the best places in Old City for a last-minute date or even just a drink after work with a few friends. There may be a wait on weekends, but stick it out for seafood paella with squid ink bomba rice and peppery grilled half chicken. You could easily spend an absurd amount of money here on larger plates. Prioritize the smaller snacks like seared scallops and lamb meatballs. These mostly cost less than $20 and they're better than the big boys, anyway." - candis mclean, alison kessler
"Tapas, by definition, are made to be shared. So eating them while 40 or so people awkwardly sing the “Happy Birthday” song is never out of the realm of possibility at Amada in Old City. They have the Rosa Blanca Room (24 people), Matador Lounge (46 people), a collaboration of both spaces, and the entire restaurant available. Make the booking, and they’ll handle the patatas bravas and seafood paella." - candis mclean
"Amada has been around for a while, but is still one of the go-to places for a last-minute date or even just an after-work Happy Hour drink nearby. There’s usually a wait, especially on the weekend, but it’s worth it for things like grilled asparagus with truffles and a whole suckling pig. It’s also easy to spend a pretty absurd amount of money here, but you shouldn’t do that. And you don’t have to. They have lots of small plates that are relatively inexpensive, but all really good, like the beef short rib flatbread and lamb meatballs." - candis mclean, alison kessler
"The definitive OG of Restaurant Week — Jose Garces’ Amada is in a culinary league of its own. Popular Spanish tapas (that includes seafood, chorizo, and steak) on their expansive menu has kept it a mainstay in Old City for years." - Ernest Owens
"Jose Garces’ Spanish flagship never fails to impress, and has a couple of private dining options available that can fit groups from 24 to 60 guests depending on what you choose. If you need more space, you can buy out the full restaurant and fit up to 140." - Ernest Owens
