Amala Review - Palm Springs - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Aside from midmorning hikes where everyone forgets to put sunscreen on their neck, there aren’t a ton of options for big group activities in Palm Springs. The Palm Springs Surf Club is doing its part to change that. The upscale waterpark features several slides, private cabanas, and the largest wave pool we’ve ever seen. There’s also Amala. The all-day restaurant serves solid versions of ahi poke with lotus root chips, fish tacos, soft pretzels, and other things you want to eat while staring at people floating on the lazy river. Admission to the water park costs $42, but you can dine at Amala without buying a ticket." - Brant Cox

The Best Restaurants in Palm Springs

"Amala is located inside the Palm Springs Surf Club, a property centered around a waterpark where people can surf, float on a lazy river, or head down a waterslide. Grab a table and hang out for a while noshing on salads, burgers, pizza, and pastrami panini. Don’t miss the 15 beers on draft, respectable wine list, and cocktails like the smoky peach margarita." - Eater Staff, Mona Holmes

11 Spots to Find Stellar Cocktails in Palm Springs

"Amala is located inside the Palm Springs Surf Club. The entire property is centered around a waterpark where people can surf, sit in an inner-tube in a winding pool, or head down a waterslide. But this lounge is also a delicious spot for food and drinks. Options include 15 beers on draft, a respectable wine list, and cocktails like the smoky peach margarita. Grab a table and prepare to hang out for a while with Amala’s excellent food menu." - Mona Holmes

Beautiful restaurant, it’s obvious the aesthetic is important. Visited for Valentine’s dinner, was disappointed the prix fixe menu was different in person than it was online. Customer service was excellent, the food was only ok. The steak was dropped off cold & the schnitzel was tough.

Dining with The Davids

Google
We’re Dining with The Davids. When we go to a restaurant, we bring a giant group of foodies known as our “Taste Buds.” We typically order a 12-course meal, which allows us to really get to know the menu. The problem with other reviewers is they typically try one or two dishes. We try almost everything on the menu! At the end of the evening, everyone votes for their favorite dishes, which we turn into video content for Instagram/TikTok, etc. Our recent visit to The Restaurant at the Palm Springs Surf Club was a culinary adventure set against one of the most breathtaking backdrops in the desert. The mid-century modern design of the dining space, with its floor-to-ceiling glass, seamlessly connects indoors with the patio overlooking the lazy river. Beyond that, the massive three-million-gallon wave pool adds a mesmerizing touch, offering diners a front-row seat to surfers carving through the waves. For our curated tasting, we gathered 20 Taste Buds and sampled a selection of standout dishes. The crowd favorite appetizer was the Surf Club Ceviche, a beautifully balanced mix of snapper and sea bass, brightened with lime, cilantro, frisée, pear, and crispy taro root. Among the entrées, second place went to the Spring Vegetable Risotto, packed with vibrant flavors and textures from sweet peas, edamame, asparagus, and sugar snap peas. First place was the Pork Schnitzel, a golden, crispy masterpiece served with Romesco sauce and fingerling potatoes. Insider tip: ask for extra Romesco on the side—you won’t regret it. For dessert, the hands-down winner (and overall champion of the night) was the Lemon Meringue Pavlova. Light and airy, perfectly balanced with whipped cream and a bright red berry coulis, it’s a must-order and ideal for sharing. As a bonus, if you show our video to your server, you’ll receive a free gift with a minimum purchase!

Google
Navigator is absolutely fantastic! The vibe is sophisticated yet laid-back, with a worldly feel that’s perfect for a night out. The food and drinks were unique and so tasty, with just the right portions. Our favorites were the flatbread and curry, croquettes, and sea bass—they were all incredible. Highly recommend this spot!

Came in for dinner last night with friends. Ordered from the happy hour menu: a burger, carne asada fries, and some type of cod medallions. The food was well made. I enjoyed my burger. My friend did not particularly care for the Safran sauce (but this is more of a personal preference). Same with carne asada fries, that might be hard to like for people who enjoy crispy fries.

Google
Amala is a restaurant inside the resort, right outside of the main pool and lazy river area. You need to make reservations so you can get inside their compound, so make sure to do that ahead of time. They have a lot of parking spots since it's also the water park. Inside, they have a lot of tables plus a bar area on top of a bunch of tables outside as well. They have a lot of staff running around all the time, but it's a bit chaotic. Our server came by a few times, but never refilled waters, didn't check on us when we got our food, and took over 30 minutes after we were all finished to even come by to ask if we wanted more. Their menu is kind of small for the size of the place, but portion sizes are big here so it's worth the price. Flavors are there for some dishes, like the bao buns and carne asada fries. Overall it was fun but if they tightened up the service piece, they'd get 5 stars.

Google
This place needs to decide what it wants to be. It is beautifully decorated. The menu is on the medium to high end in terms of offerings and pricing. But the customers and vibe is that of an adult Chuck e Cheese. There was a bunch of pool/surfer folks that were doing tequila shots at the bar and yelling. At one point, one of them starts screaming to all the diners (the bar is close to the dining room) to pay attention to him (repeatedly) and join in a toast for one of his friends. And this went on for awhile. Really awkward and almost threatening if we didn't join in given the repeated calls for attention to him. Uhm, manager? Can you please talk to your bar customers to keep it down and if they wan to party, keep it to the outside bar. Several tables over there is a 4 year old on his own. Well behaved but just sitting there with NO adult. His mother? would occasionally come in and check on him but this was every 10 minutes or so. They had long since had their meal and were using their table as their personal cabana to sit/relax after being in the pool. Our server (Holly) was great. She apologized for the noise. The food was very good but I'm thankful we ordered from the Happy Hour menu (ends at 6pm). Would I go back? Dunno. Maybe for the Happy Hour menu but no way for the full priced menu until they establish some proper decorum and rules for the dining room.

Google
Food was delicious! So good! The setting is beautiful, but the DJ is way too loud, we could barely hear each other talk. I think he was piping music to the water park next door also, but it was too loud for the restaurant. I had the BLT croissant. My wife had the Steak Tacos. We both enjoyed the food, the views from the patio were great, just wish we could hear each other talk.

Google
This restaurant checks all of the boxes. Fantastic atmosphere (see: surf oasis backdrop, water park, day club vibes, curated art/furniture/architecture), delicious high-quality food (we went for lunch and dinner - both menus fully satisfied our tastebuds - highlights include salmon bowl for lunch, prawn skewers or steak bavette for dinner), and lastly hospitality (each layer of service was top notch - from the host to the server, we felt like this is what hospitality should feel like). We actually left an item behind and went back an hour after they closed and they helped us retrieve the item. Amazing. If you haven’t been yet, you should check it out.

Yelp
Excellent food! Great fusion menu inspired by surf countries like Portugal, morroco, Australia. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We weren't sure what kind of food to expect and at a surf club but it was amazing, and great service. We loved the staff and it was beautiful setting at night.

Yelp
We stopped in for Happy Hour and dinner on a weeknight, and it was great! This place is modern and has fresh decor. The outdoor patio overlooks the wave pool and lazy river pool. You can watch surfers on the waves and have your dog sit with you while you drink and dine. The hostess and waitstaff were welcoming-- kind and attentive. They did an excellent job. We ended up eating off the Happy Hour menu. I had the black bean burger with waffle fries ($15) and a field greens salad ($9). My mom had the hamburger ($18), and we had the happy hour brut rose and a glass of the Chardonnay for $9 each. The food was excellent--quality ingredients, flavor, and presentation. The ambiance was also superb. We'll be back!

Yelp
Not much steak in the steak tacos but I'm bitter because it was tasty and I wish there was more. A great portion of food meaning a small amount of rice and beans and a beautiful environment to have a great meal. The drinks were delicious and I would go back for the Seasonal Smash Staff was sensational

Yelp
The Mrs. and I had lunch today at Amala Restaurant and Bar which is located at the Palm Springs Surf Club. Our reservation was for 12:15 and it is a good thing we arrived early. We didn't know about the line just to pay to park. Parking is $20 and if you're going to Amala you're given a $20 coupon towards your meal. When you walk up to the restaurant entrance the first thing you see is a gigantic glass door. Once inside the space opens up. Almost like a cavern. The waiting area for the restaurant seems unfinished but since Amala and the surf club just opened that is to be expected. The hostess asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. Since we wanted to take advantage of the beautiful spring time weather we chose to sit outside. The patio was kind of loud because of the dj but that ended after an about 30 minutes. Jonathan arrived to take our order. I ordered a Manhattan and the Mrs. ordered a Margarita. It took a while for our drinks to arrive and when they did, Jonathan apologized because they only had plastic cups. What I actually ended up with was an Old Fashioned. The menu was somewhat limited. It is the first weekend of Coachella so things are busier than usual. The menu is accessible via a QR code which isn't my favorite. The Mrs. and I shared the Pork Belly Bao Buns which were filled with Gojuchang Glazed Pork Belly, Kim Chi, and Yuzu Aioli. They were pretty good and had a little kick to them. For our main we shared the PSSC Signature Wagyu Burger which was cooked perfectly and topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, garlic chipotle aioli, American cheese, and bacon jam. Served in a Brioche bun with a side of fries. It was good and we liked the little bit of heat that the burger had. Being that Amala just opened, I'm going to cut them some slack. There were a few issues. Service was very slow so be patient. Our appetizer and main came out at the same time but I expected that when I ordered. Our food didn't come out hot. It was warm at best. When Jonathan brought our check he thanked us for our patience. Honestly, we didn't mind the slow service and warm food. We enjoyed people watching. Although, I can tell some of our fellow diners weren't very happy.

Yelp
They've renovated the entire restaurant, it's like a new everything, and it's spotless. It feels like you're walking into an 5 star resort. Everything is magnificent and being able to watch the waves from the patio while enjoying a coffee in the morning is awesome. Knowing that we were literally in the middle of the desert is such a bizarre concept when you see this place. Lunch was fantastic, the server parker was very personable and just spoke like a human being, not the uptight stuffy traditional methodology. Only dislike is that you could see the stains from sweating and food (it happens who cares) on the staff members, confused on the color choice and the menu is not their current menu, I was told it was the previous locations menu. The two managers Cameron and Wade were sweet and super knowledgeable. Can't wait to come back! Overall just a great experience!

Yelp
What fun!! Had a great lunch with friends! Friendly staff was a plus! The view of the surf pool is amazing!

Yelp
Located overlooking the surf club, this bar/restaurant has an upscale party resort vibe. Friendly service. Love the fresh desert sourced fruits and vegetables, the vegetarian-friendly, vegan-friendly, gluten-free menu options and fresh, hearty fare. Came here for lunch Memorial Day weekend. Lots of fun.

Yelp
Immediately approaching the building, it is obvious that some major renovations have been made throughout the entire property. Tyrone the manager was kind enough to show us around while our server Nate put in our food order of the Carne Asada fries. Once the wet and wild of Palm Springs is now the Palm Springs surf club. An elevated classic remodel with a great staff in both daytime and dinner menus. Although the wave-pool is currently not producing waves...we didn't care whatsoever!! The massive pool is still very pleasing to look. Beat the heat by requesting a table near the misters on the patio which make for a refreshing meal . Truly, no other place like this in the desert, it won't be long before this place has a waitlist so come now and enjoy your experience !!

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant with wonderful background playlist. Excellent service..Sabrina was delightful! Food was solid and made me curious to try more items on future visit. We will be back!

Yelp
It's a shame the Valley thinks they're closed. They're not -- and they're just getting started. We've eaten here 4 times now since it opened and it's never failed to impress. The menu is awesome and all the dishes have been great. Good price, creative cuisine and fresh ingredients. Cool staff too. This is by far one of the most dynamic and picturesque dining and cocktailing experiences in the desert. Phenomenal views and great vibes -- a truly special place. Hope they get the message out that they're open for business because it's a must-experience for locals and visitors alike. Ask for the Bonsai cocktail. One of their signature drinks that is like nothing you've had before! And the Detox salad or Tahini Panini. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Fun atmosphere but most memorable was the AMAZING SERVICE- hats off to Nate the Great who did a great job with our rowdy table of 8!

Yelp
Delicious food, friendly wait staff & relaxing patio. Great way to enjoy the beautiful weather without being directly in the sun.
google avatar

Arin F.

Yelp
There is no sound dampening, so just a few tables chitchatting make the room too loud. We moved outside on the patio and it was much better. Our hamachi crudo was warm and had no acid. I was nervous eating it. The kale salad was fine. My citrus salmon was very bland, and my partner's shrimp tacos were soggy. Nate, our server, was great. Very nice guy. Best part of the experience.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
Amala is awesome! Food was great, service was spot on, and the views of the mountains and wave pool are pretty sweet too. Our server was very attentive and provided genuine service. The decor of Amala is really beautiful and sets the tone for a great meal. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Really good food, amazing atmosphere and even better service. Our waiter Nate, and the bartender were very attentive and very personable. I came in with my three daughters and we were greeted right away by the bartender once sat our waiter. Nate came up brought us water took a drink order and an appetizer order really good happy hour lots of different items to choose from. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
The surf club was beautifully remodeled. The restaurant gave San Diego vibes. It's definitely a must see when visiting the area. Coming back to this area that once used to be a water park gave me fond memories. Our food was excellent! I definitely recommend the shrimp prawn and the wagyu burger was cooked perfect and the honey glazed sweet potato fries are to DIE for. Our server was so attentive and accommodating. Overall my partner and I had a great experience. I will be back again soon.

Yelp
Just had brunch here today . The space looks amazing, the waiter looks amazing and was amazing. The food was delicious. The Bloody Mary was delicious and the bill did not break the bank. The Grand Opening is this Thursday and This place deserves all the success I believe it will receive!

Yelp
Had a nice dinner for four. Service was very good and food was outstanding. We had four different dinners, each nicely portioned and paired with a vegetable. The chef is really great at this restaurant. Ambiance was nice, but they did have some bass centric music playing by a DJ. We were there on a Friday night in Feb. 2024 at about 8:00pm. Not many other patrons eating dinner at the same time. Place is very new and clean. I hope they do well since the food was some of the best in the Coachella Valley.
google avatar

Mayra M.

Yelp
The food was amazing! We got the steak tacos and they were delicious, will definitely have to come get them again! They are a new restaurant so there were a few things presentation wise that wasn't the best. Won't mention them now but hope to see these improvements on my next visit!

Andrea H.

Yelp
Wow! Excellent cuisine and you get to watch the waves at Palm Springs Surf Club! The fish tacos were perfect. Great presentation and friendly staff! The decor is serene and elegant. Definitely one of the best restaurant views in Palm Springs!

Yelp
This was a pleasant and beautiful surprise to discover Amala Restaurant & Bar, part of the Palm Spring Surf Club. We are so glad that we came upon this hidden gem. Hubby and I discovered Amala through Yelp after a hard days work and craving for something great to eat and to unwind. Amala did not disappoint us. You will not be either.. Upon opening the huge wide glass doors we were greeted by a friendly sweet hostess, who took us to our seats and explained a little bit about the restaurant. The ambience, the live DJ, the view of the beautiful property was amazing. Nate who was our server was Exceptional, friendly, attentive, and the best server ever! You must ask for him when you are at the restaurant. He explained to us about the property who knew the details pretty well, and you can tell he loved and enjoyed working there. He had great suggestions and had great recommendations about the menu. Food was delicious, server was excellent and the ambiance was incredible. I ordered the Pork Belly Bao Buns, so good and hubby ordered their PSSC Signature Wagyu Burger, with the best hot fries. We were satisfied. I will tell all my family and friends about this restaurant. There's so much more to this property, we can't wait to come back soon.
google avatar

Kelci S.

Yelp
Had a great dinner. The food and cocktails were amazing. Everything was great. The ambiance was awesome. We will be back! Tyrone was a great server!

Kay M.

Yelp
Not sure what happened here but the atmosphere is nicer at a water park food court. Service and food are completely opposite of when this first opened.
google avatar

Jake H.

Yelp
There's a part of you that's asking, "it's literally a water park, how good could the food be?" And I get it. It's literally a water park. And, in a town that really struggles with consistency at restaurants, Amala stands apart. The menu is ambitious and well executed (where else can you get mahi mahi with a water slide in the near distance?), the staff is genuinely spectacular (particular shoutouts to Johnathan, Alex, Tyrone, Nate), and it's just a wonderful place to relax. The view off the patio is excellent, made better by a cocktail program that's well-executed and not overly complex. Over my ~20 years of coming to Palm Springs, and living here for the past three, it's certainly in my top 5.
google avatar

Patrick B.

Yelp
Amala is a lovely new addition to the Palm Springs restaurant scene. Due to the unexpected (and hopefully short) closure of the swim club, I think many people assume that Amala is closed too. It is open! The decor and atmosphere is very chic and contemporary... they have both indoor and outdoor dining with views of the wave pool. The service was great... our waiter Nate was friendly, attentive and knowledgable. Drinks were good... they have a bar area that might be great for Happy Hour and/or informal bar bites. The food selection is solid and varied... I enjoyed a tasty hamachi sashimi crudo... others indulged in pasta and burgers. Overall, a really good choice. Can't wait to swing by when the swim club is open...
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent service and food with the beautiful backdrop of mountains, palm trees and a rejuvenated Oasis water park. Our server Sierra was extremely attentive and nice and all around AMAZING. DJ Pedro Le Bass was laying down amazing vibes during the Sunday brunch. The Elvis PB& J is out of this world. They also have a Mimosa Flights where you get 4 different mimosa flavors with garnishes for $20, a good deal if you like a variety. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Sandra R.

Yelp
Great food and drink. JT, the bartender was excellent! Loved his service and knowledge of the food items. Very attentive and friendly. Fair pricing of items on the menu. Very comfortable seating. Will definitely come again.

Jeff Q.

Yelp
Visiting the new Amalas restaurant and bar in the Palm Springs Surf Club was a fun experience. Met Michael, who gave us a tour of the beautiful property. Bummer the wave machine wasn't on. The restaurant blends well into the environment, that being looking out onto the major pool, Lazy River and part of the wave pool. Service at bar, by JT and Pickles was outstanding, great personalities with a lot of energy. Eggs Benedict was the best! Maybe best I ever had with the waffle base, pork belly bacon, perfectly cooked eggs and creamy, hot Holladaise Sauce, excellent! Will be back!!

Jennifer V.

Yelp
Literally the worst! Went at 1pm on a Sunday and they were out of everything. Server super rude. Unprofessional staff with insane attire. Hostess had weed belly button ring out with belly shirt. Empty restaurant with waiters acting like they're slammed. We're locals and so disappointed.

William M.

Yelp
The new facility is gorgeous with perhaps too many hard surfaces as noise is an issue but it will likely be resolved. Very large seating capacity inside and out plus the water activities...so the place is certainly unique. We dined midweek with another couple...one of a handful of tables. Service was attentive but when food came it was 'cool'...had been sitting while server talked with another table! Menu...what menu? No menus and the place has been open for nearly 3 months. They offered an I-Pad until battery died. Menu is complex given the descriptions of the entrees in some foreign language...only an Executive Chef would understand the words. I prefer to know what is coming on my plate in an understandable description. Pricing was fair to high but food was very good. If it gets its act together, it will be an interesting alternative to traditional dining given the location...but it needs to get it act together.
google avatar

Deb J.

Yelp
Beautiful but prepare to pay a lot? Expensive, but it is super cool. Want to go to their Sunday brunch!
google avatar

Sheri P.

Yelp
I'm going to give it a 5. Nice ambiance, service was relatively attentive, and they had no issues with us being late for our reservation. Good portion sizes and unique cocktails. Good place for groups.
google avatar

Donna W.

Yelp
My grilled pastrami panini was excellent and big enough to split with my sister. The service was excellent and personal. The Palm Springs Surf Club provides a beautiful tropical setting for fun, fine dining, and an opportunity to watch surfing in the desert!

Val E.

Yelp
Visited the surf club over the weekend, this restaurant is the only place open there, the food sucks chilaquiles for sure not authentic. Service sucks too never even could find my server after placing my order had to hunt her down to even pay the bill. This place is totally over priced too paying $26 for a basic burger or $19 for a PB and J come on now.

Denise B.

Yelp
This past Sunday a group of four of us dined here for a late lunch and we couldn't be more pleased with this restaurant. What started off as our table waiting awhile in what turned out to be a communication mix up ended up with Tyrone and Sabrina taking the best care of us. Amala is a new restaurant and a few kinks are to be expected. However, Tyrone and Sabrina handled our table beautifully and turned the day around for us. Not to mention the food and drinks were all fabulous. Thank you, all! We are locals and we'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Brenda L.

Yelp
Have been for lunch, dinner and happy hour. Pleased with the food and the service all three times. Will definitely be back.

Cheryl L.

Yelp
We recently had 3 special group events here ranging from 10-30 people for lunch and dinner and they went well. The modern food by Chef Mondrian is excellent and the lunch menu includes healthy salads with house made salad dressings. Poke was excellent. I saw at lunch fine looking burgers and tuna melts. The individually made cocktails include house made syrups and everything I've tried was well- balanced and not too sweet. Dinner is my favorite menu with sea bass en papiotte and the hamachi yellow tail sushi. The service we experienced was excellent and the staff went out of their way for us. Dulce and Sabrina were especially wonderful. We had a tour from the restaurant manager, David that was lovely too. The kitchen did an awesome job as well. We were delighted!

Joseph M.

Yelp
Be Careful. We looked at the menu online and decided what we were going to order and how much it would cost. When we arrived we found that many of the items on the online menu were not on the inhouse menu and most of the prices on the inhouse menu were quite a bit higher than on the online menu. I asked the waiter, who gave us real good service otherwise, and he just kind of shrugged it off. I wrote the owner an email pointing out the discrepancy and I have not received a reply.

Todd P.

Yelp
It was a Side-chick Saturday. Stellar service and good FOOD with more than enough room to accommodate everyone. Super spacious place. Some of the best mountain views in the valley

Christiam D.

Yelp
Food that beat expectations, service was attentive, fast and friendly. Ambiance was great right next to the pool with a beautiful background.

Sara C.

Yelp
The food was very good. Our server was very nice and attentive. I REALLY appreciate the kitchen accommodating my very restrictive food needs. I told them what I couldn't eat and they had very quick and simple substitutions which I really appreciated. Eating out is normally a no go for me for my food restrictions and they made this dining experience one of the most easiest that I have had in a LONG time.

Robin N.

Yelp
Lovely service, great food. The surf club looks fun and should be a big hit. Great cocktails too! We will be back.

Michael S.

Yelp
Wanted to stop by for a quick lunch prior to going to the airport. $20 just to park. Notta.

Jason T.

Yelp
The food was good. Our server, Sabrina, was our server she is amazing, so kind and friendly and welcoming, very professional. The ambiance was fabulous. We will return mostly because of our wonderful service. The only downside was the upcharge for a very small martini.

Linda P.

Yelp
I want to love this place. The design and view are great. They have a very talented chef. BUT....the service was terrible (almost non-existent), and the place was almost empty. A lot of employees standing around, not delivering a customer experience. I suggest on sight management.

Lori L.

Yelp
Beautiful new restaurant with great service, vibe and menu. Impressive gluten free salads!

Lisa L.

Yelp
The sea bass was excellent! Also the drinks were good and the band was great. Great service. Love this place!

Mario H.

Yelp
if you're going to have a menu that speaks to a waygu burger and prawn dish, deliver on the listed menu item. A Costco burger patty and grocery store shrimp don't equate to your menu listing! I'm not sure how your chef could send those items out and feel good about it?
