Wow, this place is beautiful! Great interior design and artwork. But wait, the sushi and sashimi was delicious too. And the service was great. Friendly and prompt. Right by McCarren Park too? Great location. Definitely looking forward to falling into this place again soon.

I have been here a few times and every single time, the food is absolutely delicious. Top-notch, honestly. Staff is always very accommodating and friendly. I will continue coming back and highly recommend!

Loved this Japanese Restaurant. It is a beautiful space. The murals are beautiful. It is beautifully set up. The playlist they had on was very good. The service is wonderful. The food comes out quickly but at a good pace. You don't feel rushed. The food was 😋. I had the lunch special ($16) which includes choice of Soup or Salad, one roll (large selection) and an Entrée (choice of Salmon, Chicken, Tofu and Steak) they come with White Rice and Vegetables. I had the Miso Soup, White Tuna and Jalapeño Roll and Steak. The Vegetables that came with my Steak were Onions and Peppers. I don't know if it's the same Vegetables on all the Entrées. I would think it is. Everything was made to perfection and beautifully presented. They also have other lunch specials and an A La Carte Menu. We only had water but they do have a full bar. Dessert was not included but we ordered it anyway. I had the Mochi Green Tea. The Ice Cream itself was Green Tea and it tasted great but I don't think I would order Mochi Green Tea again. My friend ordered Tempura Cheesecake. I tried a little piece. It was interesting. The Cheesecake was very creamy and sweeter than New York Cheesecake. This place is good for dining with others and also for Solo dining. I have to come back to try some things from their A La Carte Menu and to try one or two of their Cocktails.

Great spot for sushi! The patio space was great, and the whole visual vibe of the restaurant was open, trendy, and accessible. Service was quick and friendly. We split the pork gyoza, charred edamame, and purple potato fries with matcha mayo and they were all AMAZING! The spicy girl roll was my favourite. All the sushi was fresh and colourful, and tasted so good. Definitely recommend, and will keep on a list for future NYC visits.

I've been there for lunch on a Friday. Calm, nice place. Portions are small. But it is okay, we understand that ingredients prices are sky rocketed as well! Staff: Very good. Taste: just like japanese There's nothing bad to try.

I have been coming back here couple times after first visited. Mostly come with my friend and she is okay with this place. Today she is in a mood for sushi so this restaurant is around my neighborhood. We have Sashimi Ozara, Kama island, Toro Dynasty, Pork gyoza, Purple Fries, Yaki shishito pepper and 2 bottle toro tempranillo torque. Food is good but at the beginning my friend complain about the waitress that she is not focus and looks like she is out of energy, she forgets lots of stuff like our share plates, napkins, glasses. But there is another waiter that came to our table and get the order or something we want. overall, I still like this restaurant. The location is right near McCarren park and they have dog friendly seat outside, after you walk your pup and you are hungry you can stop by this place.

We were two, we ordered appetizers and two main courses. The appetizers were really good: some shrimp spring rolls and very tasty pork gyoza. For the main course, we ordered a special tuna roll with shrimp, which was excellent! However, where it failed, and it failed miserably, was with the chicken teriyaki. It wasn't the sauce that failed, it was the chicken itself... You could tell they were leftover chicken pieces, mostly cartilage and a lot of fat. The chicken was really bad. If I ever come back, it would be by chance, I wouldn't purposely return. The service was very good, but the beer selection was limited, and the ones I requested from the menu were not available. The three stars are two for the service and one for the food. The selection of the chicken pieces was very poor.

This place is 100% a GEM. I came here after an appointment cause it caught my eye. I ordered the katsu curry lunch special and what a treat it was. The plate came with a soft boiled egg which was boiled perfectly. It was marinated in mirin and soy, very nice detail. The katsu was fried nicely. The chicken was moist and delicious. On the side was Bulldog brand sauce. OMG!!! No restaurant serves Bulldog sauce. Curry itself could have been slightly richer. $16 is ultra reasonable. I needed a little bit extra, so I checked the menu and found chutoro and otoro. That's unheard of...I rarely find any restaurant serving either. Be aware that it is pricy, but it's worth a try if you've never had it before. Staff is super responsive and friendly. When any of the servers saw my cup empty, they'd come over and top me off. The decor is reminiscent of Japan. The wood furniture and amber light really sets this place apart. Glad I stopped in for lunch.

Great sushi, drinks and service. We studied in Waseda University, Tokyo and traveled extensively during 1971~3 and were surprised they have a particular sake we are looking for to go with the food. Stanley Kwok

Solid sushi place. Portions are kind of small so for the price it's expensive. Sushi, skewers, and chicken karaage are good. I especially like the chicken karaage. The outside was thin and crispy and the inside was soft and savory. Service was a little slow, but the sushi (and other entrees like the chicken katsu) did come eventually. I liked how the restaurant used real candles for the table setting. The overall feel of the restaurant is like a dark, cool sushi restaraunt, so it feels nice to sit in

Came here for dinner when there was a fleet of cars and bikes that decided to do burnouts for the duration of the stay at the restaurant. Not sure if that was a regular occurrence or not. Regardless, I don't blame the restaurant. Appetizers Tuna Tartare - it was not bad, but the, what I think is flying fish roe gave it an odd flavor, which I didn't much care for. Short Rib Negimaki - it was VERY bland, like almost no seasoning, I had to dip it in soy sauce for additional flavor. It was almost like eating leeks/veggies with a hint of meat. Eggplant - This was hands down my favorite item on the menu, but I'm a huge fan of eggplant as well. It had an odd slimy texture, which I could have gone without, but the sauce on top was still good. Dinner Sushi - Alaskan King, Tuna Salmon Twister, and Lobster Got Fancy - overall the sushi, just not worth the price I've had much better sushi in NYC for lesser price. Chicken Katsu - what a joke for $28 - this is what single-handedly made me give such a low rating. It was like eating chicken tenders, without flavor... I started to eat the veggie garnish bellow, because it was better than the chicken. I added the suhsi rice thinking for some reason it's a curry and well it wasn't. So it was rice with fried chicken with small amount of very potent sauce on the side, just dry and bad. Originally I was giving this 2 stars, until I got to the desert. I completely forgot about the Tempura Cheesecake. I think the sweetness of the cheesecake was well balanced with the tempura around it.

Great ambience, service and scrumptious food. We had the sushi roll and ramen which were both great! The chicken karaage was abit bland but they did gave green tea dipping salt on the side.

I'll admit to initially writing off Amami as a run of the mill Japanese restaurant except with upscale decor. Restaurants in northern Brooklyn have to look the part to attract the upwardly mobile hungry and spendy diners in the neighborhood, after all, but my last few visits have me quite impressed. Not only is the food execution five stars all around, the cocktail program here is as good as the dedicated cocktail bars I regularly pay top dollar at. If Freddy is around, you want him making your drinks. He's so dedicated to his craft he'll even make his own strawberry salt for specialty drinks. They have drinks that smoke, drinks served in colorful tiki mugs, and drinks with layered flavor and ingredients. I didn't expect top tier drinks alongside my top tier izakaya eats, but I found it all at Amami. They have an extensive menu and I'd say to try whatever stands out to you, but some of my favorites include purple sweet potato tempura with wasabi mayo, the yellowtail jalapeno roll, and their fantastic takoyaki. Everything is reasonably priced. Service has been overwhelmingly attentive, especially for large groups. There's even a private room in the back for parties up to 20 people, where I threw a birthday party at recently. It may not be making restaurant news headlines, but I have never left Amami dissatisfied.

This is my favorite place to get sushi! I drive all the way out from Long Island for their sushi. The charred edamame is my personal favorite. The drinks are also great. Service is wonderful, the manager is super sweet and extremely accommodating. You think it's a small place then you're nicely greeted with a private back room as well. The one roll with the peanuts in it is such a great twist to the roll. I crave this often. I always see if other sushi restaurants have it but they don't. I've been to many sushi places and everything is frozen and tastes frozen, but not here at Amami

Really awesome Japanese food, a true standout. I found this on Yelp before my NYC trip and made a reservation. Actually didn't really need one, but I'm still so glad I found this place. My bf and I are picky Japanese folk who eat Japanese food all the time. The karaage was seriously a standout dish- it was so delicious!! And the purple sweet potato fries were really unique and veeerry yummy too! Also, the green tea salt was incredible!? Who would have thought?!? Waiting for my next chance to return here! oh, and excellent service and ambience. Date night vibes for sure

Pretty good Japanese restaurant. Came with a group of four and was sat in their outdoor seating, but would recommend getting an indoor reservation as it is much warmer and ambiance is nicer. For appetizers, we shared the shishito peppers, and these were delicious. We would occasionally get an extremely spicy one, but it was still good. Drinks were good and personally got the lychee sangria which was delicious and would recommend. Shared a bunch of dishes, from getting a sashimi platter, which had wonderfully quality fish, to ramen, which was very warm and had a delicious broth, to sharing rolls.

This review is for delivery and dine in. I've tried quite a few sushi spots around the Williamsburg area and this is by far my favorite. It's always consistent, fresh, and has a great ambiance (trendy, but not sceney. And still casual, but nice). The menu is really extensive and everything I've ordered has been really good! I really like their sushi entrees that come with rolls, nigiri and/ or sashimi. I've tried: -Spicy Mango Salad: good! But recommend only ordering in the summer when mangoes are in season, otherwise the mangoes aren't very ripe in the salad. -Yellowtail Serrano: very light and fresh. -Tuna TarTare: really good! -Seaweed Salad: standard, but good! -Sushi Ozawa Small: yum! -Sushi and Sashimi for One: yum! Pretty big size, I can never finish. -Various rolls like spicy tuna and salmon. All good!

I can't speak for the dine in experience as I've only ever ordered from here. I've given this place a few shots and it's not bad, but is never great either. Sushi rolls are small and heavy on the rice. Fish quality is good, but a little flavorless. Too pricey for what it is!

Amazing service. Beautiful place. Place was pretty and not that crowded. I had a great cocktail! Ramen was on point. Nice and flavorful and a good amount was served! Also came here on another occasion and had sushi! Everything was delicious. I've been here 3 times already in the past week! Love this place and my daughter does too! She even turned her dad on to this place she loved it so much!

I love their sushi. Love this place.. or loved? Whenever I order in steak, it's been like a nightmare. Sometimes I order medium it's well done. Sometimes it's rare. I ordered the steak one more time hoping that they change it. Omg. I paid $45 for a hunk of FAT. half of the steak was pure fat. It was not edible. Huge disappointment especially my family loved this place for years. I dunno if they're taking advantage of people who order in. But really disappointed.

I had been craving japanese food for a while because I miss my time living in Tokyo, and this place blew me away. Quality was amazing and food was fresh. You can taste all the ingredients and how natural they were. Very similar to the food I used to enjoy in various cities around the Kansai, Kyushu, etc. A lot of japanese places in nyc are severely over priced, but this place is very reasonably priced and for the quality you get, it's a steal. Definitely going to be here again very soon!

Love this restaurant! I have been here twice, once for my birthday and once during GNO. They have indoor and heated outdoor seating. The fish here is very fresh. I have ordered the spicy scallop hand roll, sashimi deluxe, sushi and sashimi combo for two, yellowtail scallion roll, bluefin tuna sashimi and everything is hands down, amazing! Their cocktail menu is extensive and very creative. If you like old fashioneds, I would recommend the Japanese old fashioned. If you like Japanese whiskey, I would recommend ordering the Japanese whiskey flight for $28. If you're more of a sake person, there is also a sweet sake and dry sake option. Honestly something for everyone.

Kind of a random assortment of food to snack on, but happened to stop by @amami_bk after some shopping in the neighborhood. Outdoor seating was pretty nice and I enjoyed sipping on my ice matcha while eating yakitori (it's been too long)! Not bad for US standards, and it came with both tare (sauce) and shio (salt) so you get to try both kinds. Might have to try some of their other stuff next time!

Maybe it's the reviews, but was just expecting more here. The ramen was so-so, it was not that tasty. The signature cocktails were on point, but they are stingy on the portion. The lychee drink was literally half full. I've never seen that before. For the price, it could have been 3/4 full on a small wine glass. Not to mention that it was filled with ice. The highlight was the sushi which was tasty and delicious. The wings were disappointing as well as the ramen. I thought it would be rich, creamy and tasty, but alas it was not. Wasn't just me either, other 3 people I went with did not find it that way either. Yes to the sushi, but in my view skip the ramen.

Excellent service! The Spicy Girl signature roll was so delicious and filling. And the Nigori sake carafe was incredible, it was a bit on the sweet side, which is my preference. Also, they take reservations for indoor or outdoor dining.

The food itself was great. But when we are waiting we found this store also has too good to go option and it was 2.2 points out of 5, so we are pretty curious cuz the food is great, why such low reviews? And once we get it, totally understandable. As shown below in pics First of all, only four small cup miso soup is not even on the menu and they put original retail price for $12 dollars for this, which is ridiculous. Secondly, we are having the dinner in this store and we ordered pretty great amount of food, but this too good to go give us a feeling of teasing us. It's not for helping environment but for their OWN financial benefit. If the store owner is in such mindset, you shouldn't participate in this Too good to go campaign which is helping the environment but not wasting so many plastic container for miso soup. We really enjoyed the food here but for such attitude and mindset, we will never ever come back and hope this reviews can help others! Overall I feel really really bad that as an Environmentalist, I'd rather they don't even give me this bag which cause more plastic trash in the world. If you want to protect the environment, please don't event order too good to go in this store.

I came here to eat once, and I'm allergic to MSG. After eating there I had to go to the hospital not knowing how I got sick. After I got sick the results came back that I had msg poisoning and other chemicals. I don't recommend this place for anybody that has any kind of allergies.

Went here with my bff and it was pretty good. The ambiance is perfect for groups, friends, or a cozy date. The restaurant is small but the decor really sets it off. We started with the yakitori which were 3 for $11 (you can mix and match depending on what you like), and a mixed green salad. Both were good and nice-sized portions. For our main courses, we had the salmon and the dinosaur roll. The salmon had a crispy skin, delicious purple yam mash (not too sweet at all) and 1 singular asparagus lol. The dinosaur roll was great! The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because the service felt slow. Someone who sat down 15-20 minutes after us got their appetizer, drink, food, AND bill before us. Seemed pretty odd. Would I come back? Yes! Would I recommend it to a friend? Absolutely

Cute and cozy date spot! Every single dish was a knockout. The sushi was fresh, the ramen was delicious, the salmon was crazy. The miso cod was so good I wished I could've ordered an entree sized portion. Literally flaky like a warm homemade biscuit. And the service was great too!

PURCHASED: Avocado Salad ($8) + Miso Soup ($3) + Edamame ($5) TOTAL: $16 (comfortably for 1 person) PROS: + close to the park + Avocado salad was good. CONS: - pricey: A bit pricey. $5 for a small bowl of Edamame (please see photo). I guess they had to increase their prices because they need to stay afloat. It was a bit too pricey and I don't think I would come back. IMPRESSION: As you may see in photos the salad, Miso soup and edamame was approximately $16 in total (vegetarian selection). Was it filling? No. Is it a good bang for your buck? No. As a comparison, $16 could have bought me a rotisserie chicken ($8) as well as a bag of rice ($8) that would last me for seven days. Was it really that worth it? Nah, not really.

i'd give this place a 4.5/5 my bf lives around here and when we're at his place and craving some soosh, this is our go-to spot. near me - in downtown bk - we go to ki sushi. while ki will always be number one in my heart, i will say amami is a good runner-up. if ki were the smart, traditional, class president type of older sister, amami would be the younger, cool, alternative, artsy sister - both beautiful and successful in their own way. anyways, we always start with three skewers - my personal fave is the beef - tempura sampler, and the sushi and sashimi dinner for two. fresh and delicious, everything is always consistently good here. the only reason i knocked off half a star is not because anything is wrong but because it didn't blow me away. it gets me to do the first-bite-yummy-happy dance but not the eyes-closed-shooketh-mouth-open gasp. i'd rather give them 5/5 then 4/5 stars on this review even though i'd rate it a 4.5 because everything here really is great and i hope they continue to get good business! the ambiance is cute, a great date spot, and the service is always great as well. sometimes we make rez and sometimes we walk-in and we've never had to wait long. bf says delivery is good too! we've never tried the ramen or curries here.

Seeing all the positive reviews this restaurant had, really gave me high expectations that were not met during my visit. I arrived with two friends on a Saturday for a late lunch. Upon arrival we were seated very promptly, however, , no one came to take our order for quite some time; We unsuccessfully try to flag someone down but we were overlooked. We all ordered off the lunch menu. I had the Katsu Curry rice and my friends ordered some sushi from the lunch menu. The Chirashi, Sushi and Sashimi were alright but these two dishes were nothing to write home about. The Katsu Curry rice was very bland and the katsu was not crunchy nor was the curry hot, it was lukewarm. For the price we paid I was expecting more for the food and the service. Overall I was expecting more for the price and from all the reviews online. My visit just came up short of my expectations. I don't think I will be returning.

I chose to come here with a few of my friends because I really wanted some sashimi, and it was delicious! We got the small sashimi (which came with 20 pieces) and it tasted so fresh! Each sashimi piece was amazing! We also ordered some ramen. Omg, the ramen here is delicious! I really liked my miso ramen, but the tonkotsu ramen hands-down had the best soup! It was so creamy, and full of pork flavor!! We slurped down the ramen! Will definitely come back in the future! Want to try other sushi here, seeing that many people have commented that their sushi is very fresh!

Excellent and wonderfully fresh sushi, especially after having spent a while between preparation and delivery. The flavors were all there for everything I ordered. Definitely a step above regular sushi and worth the very modest premium you pay. However, they jammed the two sushi rolls I ordered into one container, which caused the a few of the pieces I ordered to completely fall apart. For how nice and esteemed this place is, and for how much I paid, I would have appreciated the sushi in separate containers. I almost feel guilty docking a star for the packaging considering how good the food was especially for the price, but the fact that I had to re-assemble multiple pieces because they didn't spend an extra nickel on a second container was genuinely annoying. Still wouldn't stop me from ordering from there again, and I am pretty sure I will in fact.

Came here for a just an edamame and two ramen soups. Everyone seated after us was served a lot earlier. Additionally, they messed up our orders and we waited a very long time before I finally had to go remind them we had ordered 45 minutes ago. Even the edamame took over half an hour to arrive. I was done with my soup by the time my daughter got hers. Apology wasn't very friendly.

We came on a Sunday night for dinner. It was not far from the Bedford street L train stop, requiring a short walk through a bustling McCarren Park. We were surprised that we got carded. I haven't gotten carded in ages so I actually came without my ID. The cocktails looked delicious and came in unique glasses. I guess not being able to order drinks was a blessing in disguise because I would've at least gotten two based on how tasty they looked. Save the money and the calories! I got the tonkotsu ramen and an eel roll. The roll was nothing spectacular but just as you would imagine for the proverbial eel roll. The ramen was also good. My friends got two of the fancier rolls that they thought were good and one also got the chicken ramen which she appreciated. All in all, come with your ID if you want a drink. The food is good, so come if you're around the neighborhood.

We were realllly impressed with Amami! We stopped by for dinner on a Friday night after making reservations day of. Somehow they still had room for four with seats outside at 7:30pm on one of the first weekends after COVID restrictions lifted. FOOD: okay so we four consider ourselves sushi ENTHUSIASTS. As in, every single time we get together, we eat an ungodly amount of sushi. We eat until we have to basically waddle out of the restaurant/have 3 month old food babies/etc. It was our first reunion after COVID (and after half of us have left NYC and not had access to NYC sushi for the past year +). So we were PUMPED to get a res at an omakase spot in BK. Due to work, we had to cancel the omakase res and scramble to find another place for four. And we were quickly about to get a res at Amami- all expecting to "settle" for a Japanese restaurant with sushi (but not omakase our favorite). But when the sushi started coming out, we all were really happy and impressed by the quality of Amami's sushi. The four of us late two XL boats, six + rolls, and left the restaurant with our sushi food babies, very happy. SERVICE: we were seated outside so it was a bit busy but the servers were attentive, always around and very nice. We got our food quickly and efficiently (as well as our drinks) and never went longer than 10-15 mins before we could get the attention of our server. Drinks were also super delicious VERDICT: I would 1000000% recommend. Amami had better quality of sushi than any other state / place we've been this past year. It was so refreshing to be able to pick a random spot on the map and still get such good quality food. These are one of the reasons I love NYC and NYC is the best city in the world!!! Definitely stop by for amazing sushi!

Wow! Bookmarked for ages and first time going. Great service very attentive. FABULOUS cocktails omg. Hubby loves miso soup and always orders it even in Japan. He said this was the best he was had in NYC! Oysters were fresh and delicious. I ordered chirashi which was nice and fresh as well. Dinosaur roll was tasty. Very good restaurant highly recommended and I will return to try more of their dishes and have more of those cocktails.

Nice sushi place in the neighborhood. They have a lot of variety but most of them taste the same. I like to try different sushi spots because I love hand rolls, and have tried many different sushi spots in the neighborhood but this wasn't my fav.

This is my go-to for sushi. It has a great atmosphere and the dishes are all fresh, unique, and tasty. They're also pretty reliable with delivery. The rolls: I've had multiple rolls now and my favorites are the golden dragon and red hot dragon. The tuna salmon twister is pretty solid. I didn't love the encore tuna roll, it wasn't bad but just felt standard compared to their other rolls. The apps: The popcorn shrimp is delicious, but better in-person than delivery. The avocado salad sounds basic but is really yummy. The dressing is so good, I just want to get tuna added to it next time. Overall, it's a little pricey but once you find a roll you like, it's hard to order from anywhere else!

I was excited to try this place but was disappointed. The waiter with glasses took forever to take down our order. The pork bun did not have any flavor- no sauce and the pork tasted old. The gyoza was not fresh, clearly frozen. My boyfriend had the karrage and it was burnt. He also ordered a beer and it was served at room temperature. The sushi platter was decent but not enough to redeem the place. Plus one of the waiters was not wearing his mask correctly. I will not be visiting again.

This place is fantastic. Everything we had was delicious. My boyfriend loved his ramen, and I was so wowed by my pork bun that I had to order a second! If you're in the mood for dessert after, their matcha tiramisu is a MUST. I was absolutely blown away at how delicious it was.

The manager is so rude. (BYRON) First of all he is clearly on drugs. Most likely some kind of upper because the amount of aggression in that guys his eyes is concerning. Never in my life have I encountered a more rude approach. He grabbed a drink out of my hand before I could even get a word out and told me I needed to leave even though I was invited to the event they were having. He then cursed out my girlfriend for asking a question and proceeded to have a melt down in front of his colleagues afterwards. This dude should be removed completely from hospitality. Just awful

I now present to you a glowing review for Amami! My friend and I chose this place because their bar looked sexy, walked in and were seated no problem. The cocktail I got, the compass rose, is actually one of the tastiest drinks I've had to date. Because this spot is a bit elevated, you should opt for the snazzier options. We ordered a few classics and some specialty rolls, but the specialties stole the show. The classic rolls we great and fresh, but can be found anywhere. OR get one of their beautifully presented sushi platters for a group. The super attentive (and friendly) staff were quick to check on us throughout the meal. I could also tell they have a lot of regulars, as a few groups came in and knew the servers by name! Will be back next time I'm in Greenpoint.

I'm addicted to Amami! The sushi is both fresh and creative. The lunch deal is superb though limited in the offering. For dinner, you can't go wrong. My favorite is the Lobster Rock n Roll. WHEW! Now, I'm hungry just thinking about it. The cocktails are delicious as well. They carded me even though I've been there a number of times before ((which is very responsible!) just make sure you have it with you!) There's a lot to choose from at this restaurant! It's also close to McCarren Park so sometimes I'll take my order to go and eat outside. Pro-tip: there's a bodega next door with drinks for a fraction of the price if you're planning a picnic with this fantastic food. You're welcome!

Worst management I've ever seen. Was invited by my friend who was performing for an event and was cursed at and spoken to extremely rudely for not having a wristband - which was a simple misunderstanding. We were granted wristbands after by the nice staff but was still accosted by the management (Byron). If you go here, make sure he isn't working.

Very nice restaurant with a nice selection of Japanese food. Their tonkatsu ramen was very on point. Also ordered their sashimi and some yakitori. They have all the major yakitori pieces. Chicken, heart, liver, beef, shitaki mushrooms. Now they also offer lunch special which should also give a try. For the location of Williamsburg very good to have a place like this.

Sushi is unbelievably fresh. I had to close my eyes when chewing and immediately thought, "So this is what sushi in New York is supposed to taste like?" Either the bar has been set low with other sushi restaurants or this place is ridiculously amazing. I'm sure it's the latter. I curse you other inferior restaurants.

I live in WV and don't stray too far from the neighborhood, but decided to meet girlfriends for dinner closer to their hoods. I loooove izakaya and had a healthy dose while visiting Japan. Honestly, I didn't have high expectations for this spot, because it's easy to miss the mark when there is a large menu. I started off with a beer and a shot combo (long week) which was only $14. There was an option to sit inside, but were told the table will probably need to be turned over quickly since we didn't have a reservation, so we decided to sit in the enclosed shed outside. It was well executed and quite warm on a very cold night. We ordered a variety of food to share; the purple potato fries with super delicious matcha mayo dipping sauce, pork gyoza which was perfectly crispy on the outside with very fresh and juicy ingredients inside, popcorn shrimp in a delicious sauce, traditional takoyaki and I ordered the sushi ozara small for myself. I went inside to wash my hands at the start of the meal and I could smell how fresh the fish was when I walked past the sushi counter (even through a mask), and boy was that a good decision. It was some of the freshest nigiri I've had in quite some time. I also appreciate that they let me swap out the tuna roll that the sushi ozara small comes with for a different basic roll that I preferred. We ordered a few more drinks, which were creative and cute (see the cat photo included lol) and felt relaxed and well taken care of. The wait staff was amazing; funny, kind and prompt. 10/10 when it came to service. Again, i really don't leave my neighborhood, much less the island these days, but I'm definitely coming back for the quality and affordability of the food here.

Sushi is always fresh here. Food overall is super yummy. Recommend for a sushi spot in Williamsburg over the rest. This and Bozu are my favs.

Was hankering some sushi and landed on Amami. Ordered some pork gyoza, a spicy salmon roll, the golden dragon roll and, because why not, a slice of tempura cheesecake. I'm never sure when I'm ordering sushi if it's going to be enough and so I tend to over order. Let's start with what didn't work and then move on to the many good things! The gyoza was really not good. Swimming in oil and watery. No one wants wet gyoza right? Oh and they were stone cold, just not a nice thing to eat. MOVING ON. Can't go wrong with a spicy salmon roll, always good. The golden dragon roll was awesome. Spicy yellowtail, tuna, cucumber and topped with some mango. Also a honey wasabi sauce for dipping? That is where it's at, do yourself a massive favor and order it. Finally, the tempura cheesecake. Cheesecake? Good. Fried tempura? Good. Tempura cheesecake? So so good. I'm ashamed I haven't eaten it before but better late than never!
