"If Amano had a nickname, it would be old faithful. Often credited as one of the most reliable restaurants in the city, the place impresses just by the sheer number of customers served each day. With an Italian bent, the menu stars pastas like capitelli with leek and wild mushroom or chitarra with scampi (langoustine) and fermented chile. The pasta shapes and sauces change with the seasons, so there’s always a reason to come back to the Britomart classic. — HE" - Hillary Eaton, Leisha Jones

Great dining experience! The staff are all very helpful and friendly, the food and drinks are top level. The vibe and deco are also fantastic ! We’ll come back to try the pastry and lunch menu!

Came here for brunch and had a delicious pastry. It was very busy so service was a little slow. Prosciutto breakfast felt a bit same old by the end of it, the meatballs looked good. Most brunch items can be gluten free.

The restaurant is absolutely stunning, stylish and effortlessly cool. One of the highlights is the open kitchen, where you can watch the chefs at work. I was especially drawn to the backdrop: those Portuguese-style tiles, raw wooden studs, and casually arranged fruits and vegetables on the counters all added a unique, rustic charm. A round table in the center, laid out with fresh bread and butter, gave the space a warm, inviting, almost homely touch. Service was impeccable. The staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food was good, but a couple of small things were missing. The fish pâté, for instance, could’ve been lifted with a bit of lemon zest and some salty capers—just that little extra pop. The lamb was warm and tasty, but everything else on the plate was cold, which took away from the overall experience. Cold veggies and plate just didn’t match the flavor.

Customer service is excellent. We enjoy our lunch here so much. Steak, spaghetti and drinks are all amazing. I just want to emphasize the toilets upstairs. The unisex toilet are absolutely clean with white hand towels provided.

Holy moly, what a treat. We had the lamb ragu and pipe rigate for mains and they were both outstanding. The baby cos salad had this beautiful Parmesan sauce, which was terrific. A fantastic restaurant with a brilliant atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Had breakfast at Amano, an Italian bakery in Auckland, and it was superb. The food was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. The atmosphere was warm and stylish, with a lovely artisan touch. A perfect spot to start the day—highly recommended

Google
We stopped in here for brunch and coffee which was fantastic, but this is clearly a great dinner and social spot for drinks and snacks. The wine list is local and very well curated, and the coffee and juice drinks we had were all great. We also had a prosciutto and egg dish for brunch that was absolutely amazing. The space is a reclaimed warehouse space and they did a really great job keeping old details and also updating other aspects to be modern and visually striking. Definitely a place to check out.

I have to say it was honestly pretty disappointed with this meal. It is so far the worst meal I've had in Auckland. That's harsher than it seems because it was still perfectly good it just wasn't great. The egg was overcooked and the dish really needed more salt as it was oddly kind of bland. The egg being overcooked was really the most disappointing part as I was super craving a beautifully poached egg and this was very hard for a poached egg. Overall just a bit disappointed. I doubt I'll be back this trip but maybe next trip to try something else. Visually a beautiful dish and the service was very pleasant. Everyone there was very nice, kind and no complaints whatsoever with the service. Just oddly disappointed in the food and to some extent the atmosphere which was quite busy but that's probably just the location. I felt like I was back in America which was kind of not my goal. Also I'm not sure the chef understands what a smashed potato is because it's not this cut potato. Very disappointing experience

Yelp
Great atmosphere and wonderful food. Great service too. We came for lunch on Saturday and were so impressed, we returned for breakfast the next morning. Their take away carrot cake and the mini fruit mince tarts are delicious too. Expensive, but worth it.

Kristofer E.

Yelp
Best meal we've had in Auckland. The endive on the chicken dish was next level with flavor. I don't rate on this but the server was super nice and the vibe was great. Dinner * Burrata, Caponata, Olive, & Basil (Excellent) * Strawberry Side (Excellent) * Chicken (Excellent) * Kahawai (Very good)

Yelp
Juices had me coming in every morning I was in Auckland, my go-to was the green juice. My family and son loved the almond croissants, I particularly really enjoyed their pistachio madeleine. Very modern decor and spacious restaurant/bakery. Customer service was phenomenal and they are very quick.

Yelp
After a long day, I wanted some seafood and some pasta, so I headed to Amano. The atmosphere was welcoming and the service great. Everyone had a smile on their faces. I would highly recommend

Yelp
Trevally crudo with fennel, chili, prosciutto was creative and amazing. Marlborough green-lipped mussels, njuda, aioli & potato was great. Bar service from Jasmin and Dewi made the whole experience fun. Great place, food and drinks.

Yelp
Bakery! And an incredible place for breakfast, lunch or dinner! Homemade pasta on hand with incredible atmosphere. Sit at the counter and watch them make fresh pasta and more!

Darin O.

Yelp
Had several meals, coffee and pastries at Amano while we were in Auckland. We were never disappointed. Food was great, service was amazing and the atmosphere was wonderful. Even if you can't go in for a meal stop in at the bakery and get a coffee and pastry. Well worth the trip.

Yelp
What a perfect way to celebrate my parents' 60th wedding anniversary with a very special dinner at Amano. So lucky to be able to get a table for four without a reservation on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Thanks to Lorenzo from Roma for the last-minute table and to Vanessa for the great service. Started with the stracciatella. Stracciatella is a traditional Italian cheese made from pulled mozzarella curds mixed with fresh cream. The homemade cheese paired with juicy, sliced strawberries and basil was so perfect on the freshly baked bread. Their breads are baked on site. For dinner, we had a combination of fresh pastas, fish and lamb. So interesting to watch how they make the pasta onsite in the open kitchen. My mom loves pasta. Her handkerchief pasta, Waimauku heirloom tomatoes, olives and basil with fresh egg dough pasta sheets, was so beautiful and so delicious. The guys had the lamb pappardelle. Pasta with a delicious Hawke's Bay suffolk lamb ragu with olives and pangritata. Sooo good. Definitely get this one too. Loved the Kahawai. Chargrilled Hauraki Gulf line caught fresh kahawai served with radish, sumac and chilli. Kahawai tastes like a chinook or coho salmon. It is local to New Zealand and Australia. So yummy! Added some sweet corn since we'd been seeing fields and fields of sweet corn during our trip. Thanks to Lorenzo and Vanessa for a delightful meal and helping us to celebrate a very special 60th weeding anniversary trip. Cheers!

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant. The lamb was divine. We also ordered a fish plate, bread and a pasta dish but the lamb stole the show. Great service to boot.

Rhiannon K.

Yelp
I came to dinner here with a group of 8 for our Christmas Eve dinner. Everyone had been raving about how good this restaurant was so I was excited to give it a try. The staff were so friendly and accommodating to us. They made great wine and entree recommendations. I had the pasta that had lamb in it and it was so delicious! I can't remember which appetizers we got but those were polished off as we all enjoyed those as well. There is a lot of seating and checking out is really easy, even with a group when we were all paying for things separately. I love the moody decor in the bathrooms and especially loved the Aesop soap and lotion inside. The stalls are a little small and I had to squeeze between the door and sink getting in but that might have just been the particular one I went into. This is the perfect date night spot! I will be back!

Brendan C.

Yelp
Food was so good here! Amazing and nice staff, and the vibes were great! Hoping to be back here next year for the holidays again as I live in California now :)

Yelp
Delicious cocktails and a fun vibe. I loved the pasta I had! We sat at the bar and it was fun to see all the cocktails made.

Yelp
Gorgeous restaurant, elegant decor and the service was impeccable. Our waiter was exceptional and attentive and incredibly professional. Love everything about this place........the food was next level and we would come back here again in a heart beat. You couldn't fault anything here.

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended by a lovely girl we met while on a wine tour . It is located by the harbor. I went over the summer while traveling with my 27 year old son . Upon arrival it is woody and warm with beautiful decor . You walk in and hope there's a table ! well there wasn't , but we were able to sit by the bar . The bar was wider then average and marble . The bartender / waiter was attentive and very welcoming . we drank aperol spritzes which were perfectly my made . The meal was spectacular . We started with fresh mozzarella which was baked into a crusty little flat pie . This was presented in a way i had not had before. we shared cacio de pepe and a lamb dish ! The pasta was perfectly cooked and seasoned . The lamb , i can say sincerely the best i have ever had ( so far ) . The added bonus was sitting at the corner of the bar we sat with a mother and daughter who were delightful ! So excellent food and lots of laughs . I definitely would recommend a trip to this restaurant

Meee J.

Yelp
Food is very tasty but the portion really is super small. We were not very hungry so 3 main dishes plus a vegetable didn't make us feel full, but also didn't leave us hungry.

Yelp
My boyfriends' Uber driver suggested Amano's as one of the best places to eat in Auckland, boy I think he meant of the best places to eat.... EVER. We dine out quite often, no matter where in the world we are. Personally I always look to see if there is a Caesar salad on the menu. After being in Aotearoa for a couple weeks, I came to realize the Caesar here comes with bacon and boiled egg. However upon ordering the Caesar here, it did not come with bacon, boiled egg or croutons, it was not needed!!! The combination of dressings with Caesar and anchovy was to die for, then to top it off it was covered in fresh Parmesan. Literally the best Caesar of my LIFE!!! You have to try it!! Listed on the menu as BABY COS, GODDESS, ANCHOVY & PARMESAN. Paired nicely with Misha's Vineyard The Soloist Pinot Rosé 2022, Central Otago. The Stracciatella was a great starter, the balsamic and honey combined was so divine, prepared my tastebuds for the entree to follow. I loved the architecture of the interior, reminded me of a tavern but classy. Hostess really made us feel comfortable as we were not dressed for the occasion, and she sat us immediately even without a reservation. Giving us ample time until the party arrived for the table we would be occupying. Stopped by again 3 hours before my flight for a takeway Baby Cos, just to have that taste one last time. Overall, we will definitely be flying 4,393 miles very soon to return and dine here. 100% the best restaurant I have ever dined at, there is no comparison.

Yelp
My wife and I just randomly looked up Italian restaurants in Auckland and decided to try this one. So glad we did! Although the menu is a little goofy at first (trying to be really clever with the names), the food was excellent and the service top notch! Our server took the time to talk to us about local attractions and things to do while in town. Too bad we have to leave NZ tomorrow! Otherwise we'd be back.

Anant G.

Yelp
We came to Amano as a large party for dinner. The food was great and the atmosphere was perfect for a fun night out. Food 5/5: Generally great food for the price point but there were some better and worse dishes. - The party loved all the fish dishes they ordered - The strawberry dish was great and definitely worth getting - The cacio e Pepe was probably the best pasta on the menu - The Burrata was a bit weaker compared to other dishes Service 3/5: Service was generally fine but at some night was at some point a beggar (?) came in and asked us for our bread. After we just ignored him for a while and he didn't go away, we gave him the bread and he left. The server then came and apologized but it felt like he was just waiting for us to deal with it ourselves before interfering.

Yelp
Go for the pastries. Buttery, soft, overwhelmingly addictive. Breakfast is nice and take-away can be heated for a very satisfying experience. They serve sparkling water just because! Coffee was ok, if anything just get a long black.

Lawrence C.

Yelp
Truly, only an average experience, thus three stars. Five of us had dinner here this past week, and three of us were unimpressed. The other two didn't comment, as they had recommended the restaurant. Two meat dishes came out lukewarm. One person's fish was decided as "okay". FYI, they serve bread only on request. Nice view and open on a National Holiday (+15% service charge).

Sandie C.

Yelp
Yum. I've been to amano several times and everytime it's a true delight. The food is fresh and has so many delicate flavors captured into the dishes. We ordered a variety to try a bit of everything and shared on the table. I reckon thats the best way to dine so you don't have fomo and be able to try a bit of everything!! I got a blueberry cocktail. I'd recommend the scampi pasta and the octopus. Just scrumptious food with a great ambience as well! Make sure you book a reso. We lucked out and did a walk in :)

Faiz N.

Yelp
Great spicy chicken sandwiches and bakery items. The place was packed so make a reservation

Kate M.

Yelp
I found the restaurant on Yelp and we went in after watching the Super Bowl. It was a fantastic find!! The service and food were outstanding. I would recommend to book there. We did not and they did have a table but we were early. The place was fairly full when we left. They have a decadent chocolate dessert with fresh cherry whip inside. Save wo For dessert!! My husband had a pasta dish and I had their fish- both were excellent.

Veronica A.

Yelp
Happy to be back.... had breakfast, lunch & dinner on our 1st day back in Auckland. Love their coffee!! The breads & pastries are freshly baked in their own bakery. The pasta are handmade. You can even watch them while they are being made: All the dishes are delish! Had the monkfish....fish special of the day, superb! The chicken was very tasty & moist. The chargrilled broccolini is so, so good! You will definitely not get disappointed here.

Kaleb T.

Yelp
Maybe it's a convention here to brown your eggs so I don't want to take off points but the frittata wasn't to my taste, it also get lacking in overall ingredients and texture. The bran bread with cream on the other hand was maybe the best thing I have eaten my entire month in Auckland. Perfectly balanced savory/sweet creamy/textured.

Laura M.

Yelp
We were in Auckland N Z for the week and went to this extablishment every day for breakfast and coffee. you won't be disappointed! Good waitstaff, nice atmosphere, great food! They have a bakery that you must try, baked goods, salads, sandwiches, etc. they dont put the sanwiches and salads out until 10:00. Give it a try, you wont be disappointed!

S B.

Yelp
Love the takeaway food and coffee options and always enjoy eating in if we can book a table. I would suggest booking a table in advance.

Arneet D.

Yelp
Had a terrible experience at this restaurant with a severe stomach infection. We visited this restaurant during our trip to Auckland (visiting from Vancouver, Canada), and had a severe stomach infection, we tried to reach the restaurant couple times with our concerns and health issue, however our request was ignored without a response. Restaurant ambience is excellent but we had a very negative experience with customer service and food quality (especially for the expensive prices).

Madison E.

Yelp
Fantastic little restaurant in Britomart. Beautiful interior, friendly staff and great food. One of the best croissants I've ever had. I liked it so much I went twice during my time in Auckland!

Yelp
Delicious but a little bit expensive. steak tastes good. Maybe i will try noodle next time.

Christina N.

Yelp
Came here for dinner with my friend and we had a great time! We managed to get a seat without much of a wait even though we didnt have a reservation. We shared the beef carpaccio (delicious!!), pasta (awesome!!) and seared fish. The fish was unfortunately overdone and dry :( Service was excellent and wait staff were very attentive. The restaurant has a decent vibe and is great for all occasions.

Christina K.

Yelp
Um WOW. I wasn't planning to eat here, but I was trying to find another place my friend had recommended and it was shown a couple blocks away from the ferry. It wasn't, since it was AT the ferry, but I was too tired and frustrated to walk back there. Thankfully, Amano had caught my eye and I walked in to look at the menu. I opted to sit at the bar, but halfway through my meal I turned around and saw that they have seating at their open kitchen! Wish I had sat there, but still thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The bartending staff were all female! Yeah! Anyway, I was going to have a light meal, but was swayed by the staff to get their pasta, as it is there specialty. I opted for the squid ink pasta with clams. So good!! The clams were amazing and the pasta texture was wonderful. I also ordered a couple of clams, which were delicious, fresh and briny without being salty. I was also convinced to get their house made strawberry gelato. Good, but not amazing. I wish I had more time in town as I am told they are a full service bakery and they serve breakfast starting at 7:30. Given how amazing dinner was, I'm sure breakfast would be wonderful. My pasta was just $20 NZD, the oysters were $5 each and the gelato was $5 NZD. This dinner was $35 NZD, or just over $20 USD. A genuine steal for such a great meal.

Eric D.

Yelp
Amazing food, great service. We ate there three times in two days!! EVERYTHING is good!!

Amy G.

Yelp
Wow! What a taste experience for breakfast. After a long international flight, our concierge recommended we give this a try and I am so glad we did. The muesli is the best I have ever tasted. The lamb sausage dish was just fantastic, the prosciutto was loved by all, ti think the frittata looked amazing but the flavor was a little off for me. Coffees were amazing!

Irene B.

Yelp
One of the best lunches I have ever had. We shared fish and eggplant, shrimp scampi and lamb. Hard to choose a favorite! Lovely ambiance. Our daughter to us there as a gift and it was so appreciated!

K S.

Yelp
Walk a little and be rewarded with great breakfast rolls like croissants, muffins and outstanding cappuccinos. So good, we came back again a second time of our 1 night stay in Auckland. Fair prices and good service.

Donna D.

Yelp
Apparently this is a bakery? I had no idea when I rocked up after the sun had gone down and people were starting to appear for the dinner and drinks hour. For a bakery, this place can be quite poppin' in the night time. It looks chic and modern with dried flowers hanging from the ceiling. There's a concrete elegant feel to it, with a bar smack center to the side, and wide pretty windows for and passerby's to gaze through. Is this someplace you want to spend your evening meal at? Maybe. I was here for a pre-New Years eve cocktail. Again, maybe not the smartest decision I've made in a while. It was crowded, the bar had stools, and right next to it was two high tables with people dining. There was not a lot of space to breathe, in such a tight area. Thank goodness to that couple who got up and allowed us to have two bar seats, this made it a little better. It's just that with such a tiny space, the more people who came in to order a drink, they just squished everyone else with arms going over shoulders to reach their drinks and exchange payment methods. With the cocktails, there are seven to choose from. The Espresso martini good, no comparison to Melbourne one's (heck- it's nicknamed the Melbourne milkshake for a reason.) The one I ordered the Gin Amaretto Sour, it was 'aight. At $17 per person, that's a-okay in my books. It's a pretty place in Briotmart. Ideal for brunch or lunch or any eating time. Maybe not so much drinks.

Makenna S.

Yelp
We went here two days in a row. Once for breakfast/brunch and once for lunch. Everything we bought from the bakery was incredible and the kitchen made the best lunch menus. That's not even to mention the coffee. The lattes and flat whites were some of the best we had while we stayed in Auckland. The food, the ambiance, and the staff are all 5 stars. Make this one of your stops in Auckland.

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Another beautiful find with my bestie! The food is divine - so fresh, so clean, pure delight. Every mouthful was bursting with flavour. When you ask for water, you have the option of either sparkling or still - this impressed me. I loved the rustic feel of the place and the kindness of the staff. Nothing is too much for them. Want to change the water? No worries. Salt and Pepper? No worries. Was very impressed by the greeting and farewell we received and the rapport with all the customers was awesome! The food was excellent value for money and the interior is to die for! The coffeequeen (me) approves of the coffee blend. For those who are a little more spent for time, there is a bakery section on the Tyler street side where there is a range of pastries to delight in.

Tracy F.

Yelp
I went there with my sister and they served us well :) Also food and beverage service was amazing. Very clean and modern to the eye. Great customer turnover. Had a great rapport with the front of house staff. Greeted with smiles and management was amazing. The dining room was very elegant, clean and tidy. Had a rustic meets high end. Overall the restaurant is a must try and the quality is very good for your buck $$$. Well done Amano you have done us proud. :)

Melanie G.

Yelp
Amano was incredible! I came here twice while visiting in Auckland... Once for dinner and once for a quick bite from the cafe. The fish sandwich from the cafe was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had in my life! The pastries are delicious too! Definitely recommend coming to Amano's in Auckland! Such a treat!

Brena E.

Yelp
We weren't able to get dinner reservations, but decided to give it a try anyway. We were able to be seated right away and given our choice of a private table where we had to be done in an hour for a reservation or the communal table. We chose the private table and didn't have any trouble finishing in an hour. My pasta dish with scampi was so delicious! The atmosphere, food, cocktails, and wine all made for a very nice experience.

Angela L.

Yelp
What a great place, cool vibe. Food is excellent especially the pastries.

Cara H.

Yelp
Heckin rich cube croissant. Filled with like a cream and rhubarb sort of thing I think? Honestly cannot remember but it was so rich and delicious and perfect. All of the baked goods are works of art.

Khaled A.

Yelp
A fancy place for breakfast. I went with the scampi order which was tasty but I should have asked for an extra egg on the side cause I thought the meal with one egg wasn't enough to satisfy my breakfast appetite. My wife went for the avocado and toast and says that it's good, I'll take her word for it this time. The long black was one of the best coffees we tasted so far in our New Zealand trip, highly recommend getting coffee here! Amno bakery had really tasty stuff we were sorry that we didn't check it out first before heading to the restaurant. They usually serve cool sandwiches post 10am. Finally we tried the almonds croissant and it was delicious!

Claudia C.

Yelp
More or less. To be fair we were there for brunch on a Sunday and the place was packed We had the bran bread , the rocket brioche and the ham and eggs plate. Slow service but very nice place and great coffee Expensive though People at the Bakery counter much nicer than the servers

Diane B.

Yelp
Amazing meal Fantastic service, will recommend to anyone coming to Auckland Will be back

Tarek H.

Yelp
Lively restaurant with a fantastic energy of people at the bar seating and tables. The menu provided an array of options categorized by their fish veggies or meat offerings listing from starters to mains, which was really interesting . The wine selection and tap beer was excellent and the service attentive upon seating. It could appear many people were waiting but it would be with the wait so book early. The duck was an excellent stand out as a main as were the many starter salad dishes which you can easily share. Overall the dishes were excellent and looking around, fellow guests appeared to be enjoying the experience. A deserved 5 star in service despite the busy buzz and the delicious menu a true compliment to the chefs creations.

Peter P.

Yelp
Great busy place. Arrived and meet by maître de who placed us at the bar. Great move as we were able to get a drink and food with no real waiting. Excellent food with Italian bias. Wine by the glass and good choice.
