The Best Restaurants & Bars In The University District

"Naming your restaurant Amazing Thai is a ballsy choice. Luckily, the food at this tiny sit-down spot lives up to the name. Sue us (please don’t actually), but we prefer it over Thai Tom. The curries are flavorful, the rice is fluffy, and even the simple chicken-and-vegetable dish is outrageously good. The pad thai, which is tossed in something thicker and tangier than the usual fish sauce, is a must-order." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

The Most Underrated Restaurants in the Seattle Area

"Head north past Scarecrow Video and don’t stop until you hear a commotion and the distinctive hiss of a spluttering wok. Amazing Thai lives up to its name, though it could also be called Friendly Thai or Affordable Thai. It’s obvious why this diner-shaped restaurant is a neighborhood favorite. To try a little taste of everything, get the Amazing Thai Soup, a heapful of silky bean thread noodles, chicken, prawn, tofu, green onion, and garlic oil." - Eater Staff

Where To Have A Casual Meal Near UW

"Skip the busy line at Thai Tom and go to Amazing Thai. There’s always a table or space at the counter available if you want to pop in for a quick meal. The Thai food here is delicious, too, from sweet and sour pad Thai to the chicken-and-vegetable stir fry that we’d happily eat a few days in a row. This sometimes ends up happening anyway, because the portions are so hearty that you end up with a ton of leftovers." - aimee rizzo

Google
This is a sit down style restaurant with waited tables. It's a little hole in the wall place and you're likely to miss it depending on the direction you're walking, as the sign is tilted 45 degrees, rather than facing the street. The curry is excellent and reasonably priced. I've been a couple of times now and the service has been great. You can choose your spice level, I go for a 4/5, which isn't too spicy for me, but is enough to get my nose running.

If you're a vegetarian, avoid. The tofu has a weird aftertaste like it's been left out too long and has started to go bad. It's also pre-fried/ baked and is just thrown into a very watery sauce with the consistency of water for a few seconds alongside some raw vegetables and is served to you. For the amount this place charges, go to arayas or Thai tom- you'll have much better food for the same price.

I recently dined at this restaurant and, unfortunately, it didn’t meet my expectations. I ordered a Thai tea, Pad See Ew, green beans with chicken, and Tom Yum Kung soup. The Thai tea had no tea flavor at all, which was disappointing. The Pad See Ew was just okay, but the beef was too dry. The green bean with chicken dish was also dry and lacked flavor. On top of that, parking is a hassle since there’s no designated lot—you have to find street parking. The service was decent; the staff was friendly, but overall, the food quality didn’t match the price. I spent $80 and received a handwritten invoice ( I forgot the picture ) for that price, I expected much better food. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t say it was worth it.

Google
We loved this restaurant! It has a very small indoor seating area, but we waited at the counter and ordered our takeout. The staff were so kind and friendly and gave us lots of water while we waited. They were very attentive and sweet. The Chicken Pad Thai, Chicken Pad See Ew, and Ultimate Fried Rice were so good! Everything was very delicious and being able to sit and watch the food prep and cooking was awesome. It all tasted very homemade and authentic.

Hi Wow

Google
I got the pad see ew for takeout like 15 minutes before closing and the guy at the counter was super nice and friendly to me. And so was there kitchen staff. The pad see ew was probably one of the best I’ve had in Seattle as someone who’s gone to most Thai restaurants in Seattle.

Google
Best Thai food in Seattle! We typically get the Pad Ki Mao, which never disappoints. Incredible flavorful. We have also had their currys, the basil fried rice, and a yummy chicken eggplant dish. We go here a couple of times a week for the past two years and have never been disappointed. We have brought friends who become repeat customers. The customer service, quality and flavor of the food, and the prices are all top notch. This is a family operation and they work very hard for their customers, to deliver great service and food.

Google
Amazing amazing experience! The food was outstanding authentic Thai food. The people that run the restaurant are so kind and sweet. The prices were extremely affordable. Highly recommend for anyone who wants amazing tasting Thai food in Seattle!!!

Google
So many Thai places in Seattle it’s hard to choose from but this is absolutely my go to spot. Staff is incredibly nice, always helpful and this family owned shop makes the best Thai food! Consistent, good portions, perfect spice levels. 10/10

Yelp
We came here for a weekday dinner and got the crab fried rice and tofu pad see ew. The crab fried rice was amazing - there was a decent amount of crab meat and the fish was well-seasoned. However, the tofu pad see ew sauce was overly sweet, probably the sweetest I've ever had. I've had a fair share of pad see ew at different Thai places, and this is the first that I genuinely didn't enjoy and couldn't get myself to finish. Food aside, the service was great! All of our dishes came out super fast and our server was very polite and attentive. Their prices are also significantly lower compared to other Thai restaurants in Seattle while having similar portion sizes. Not a bad spot to get Thai food if you're craving some, but I'd definitely avoid the pad see ew.

Yelp
Great, fresh Thai food and the best customer service. Love the open kitchen concept. Everything was tasty and authentic.

Yelp
We continue with our Asian food exploration of Seattle WA in this trip, and by the way the name does not lie, this place was AMAZING! Very friendly service, family owned and managed. The locale is very small and humble with a couple small tables in front in addition to the inside seating, but the flavors are exactly what you're craving. The spicy levels are in point, so don't overdue it unless you can handle it! Enjoy your feast.

Yelp
Enjoyed a lot of Thai food but Amazing Thai is hands down the best I've had in all of Seattle. 100% recommend and ALWAYS smiling and friendly!

Yelp
Amazing Pad See Ew, chicken satay, pineapple curry, and potstickers. Service is beyond amazing and place is a nice small restaurant. Will be coming back.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to this hole in the wall as I walk past it sometimes and I was a bit disappointed. I came here on an afternoon with my boyfriend and we went able to be seated right away. The place since it is a whole in the wall, you could see them cook the food right next to you. We ordered the Laab Gai and Chicken Pad Thai. The Chicken Pad Thai was very sweet and very saucy. I'm not even sure by the large amount of sauce that you could even tell that it was pad Thai. I'm used to Pad Thai being less saucey, less sweet, and more tangy. The Larb Gai was okay too, but it was missing several components and more lime than fish sauce. The owners are very nice and refill your water quick, but I don't really consider this to be an authentic Thai place. There's a lot of people who just come in here for a quick bite so if you want something quick this is the place for you. However, this will not be one of my preferred Thai restaurants to go to in the area.

Yelp
Best chicken Pad Thai I've ever had. Service is always so kind and welcoming, pickup is always very easy and on time. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This has been my go-to Thai spot for years and they have never wavered in their customer service and quality! Amazing Thai has the nicest workers ever; they always serve with such respect and kindness that is rare to find. I have a peanut allergy, and the man serving me was extremely careful in ensuring there were no peanuts in my order. The food is amazing as well - I usually order the pad thai and pad see ew and they never miss! Both are always delicious and well portioned. The restaurant is a smaller space, but this does not subtract from the overall experience. Definitely a casual, cozy, and positive atmosphere. I HIGHLY recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
This is my go-to place for affordable Thai cuisine! We've tried other restaurants with similar price ranges (~$15-18 for an entree) and this one takes the cake for sure. The flavor for the dishes we've gotten (Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Pad Kee Mao) is great for the price and they give good-size portions! I've noticed other restaurants give larger portions but significantly lack flavor. They also offer fast service! We always pickup our order and it takes around 20 minutes after calling. Will 100% be coming back!:)

Owen C.

Yelp
Amazing food and warm smiles every time. The waiter was so kind to teach me a few words in Thai, 10/10 service!
google avatar

Daniel K.

Yelp
The food is great, always the same taste. Their customer service is beyond unbelievable, something I have never seen at any other Thai places I have ever been. They are very friendly, if you don't like it, they will make you another one without making you feel bad about it. They are always smiling and seem to be happy all the time. The place is very small and can seat about 15-20 people and it's always packed. They are usually open from 11-9:30pm but they take lunch from 2-5pm so give them a try and you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Mandy L.

Yelp
Lovely folks. Delicious food. Quick and courteous service. Tiny little hole-in-the-wall that seems to have a devoted following. Will definitely be coming back! Sat at the counter and got to see how they ran things. Huge fan!
google avatar

Sapphire L.

Yelp
Highly recommend - perfect food/flavor every time, big portions and the sweetest staff! If you're ever in U-district this is the spot to eat. My go to is the Pineapple Fried Rice w/ Tofu but their Pad Thai, Spring Rolls, Garlic Chicken & Curry are just as tasty too. They do a great job at matching the spicy levels you request per dish as well. Anytime we have friends or family visit it's tradition to stop into our favorite local spot and get the best Thai food on the block! Seriously if you haven't eaten here yet you're missing out on flavors galore. Take out or dine in you will never be dissatisfied this is the best Thai food spot in Seattle!
google avatar

Abigail T.

Yelp
AMAZING customer service! All the food was amazing especially the crab rangoon's. The curry was a 10/10. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
This is our new favorite Thai spot since our previous fav shut down. We always call in for takeout, and the gentleman who answers the phone to take our order is SO FREAKING SWEET. He even remembers us now, since we come every weekend. The team is always warm and welcoming when we come pickup the food and wish us well until next time. The food here is incredible, we have "the best Pad Thai I've ever had" pretty much every time we order here. We have had the Pad See Ew and the Spring Rolls and Butterfly Wontons, all have been exceptional. The restaurant itself is tiny, only a handful of tables and a handful of bartop spots, but it is cozy and comfortable. It is a true hole-in-the-wall Thai spot and that's the best way to be. We love you guys, thank you for the Amazing Thai!!!

Amy B.

Yelp
Food was okay. We ordered noodle dishes and the sauce was all really lackluster in our opinion. The tofu was not fried, and marinated on sides, but not fully. Really small space so takeout was good option.

Emmy R.

Yelp
Excellent service - tasty food - quaint place - reasonable prices for the location (u of wa. District)

Yelp
After 5 years of not eating here. I'm so impressed their quality hasn't changed. I have always love food here. I use to work nearby and my coworkers and I use to order from here almost every day. Always great flavors and when you ask for spicy, they actually make it spicy. I have had many dishes here. I was in the neighborhood getting piercings and wanted to grab some lunch before heading back to west seattle. The pad kee mao is just as good as I've had years before so delicious! I see that the family doesn't offer dine in but ordering take out is very quick. They didn't have Thai ice coffee the day I went but the Thai tea is just as great. Wish this place wasn't so far from me because I really think this is one of the best Thai food in Seattle. Service is always friendly and food is consistent.

Yelp
Delicious little Thai restaurant that's closed from walking in, but the employees will happily take your order outside or you can place a pick up order. They have an extensive menu with all the Thai classics, ranging from noodles to curries to entrees etc. I ordered my go to- a chicken pad Thai with no spice and enjoyed it! The portion was huge, I'm talking enough for three meals for me. It didn't skimp on the chicken and had shredded carrots and purple cabbage giving a pretty addition of color. Definitely would recommend coming by!

Drew S.

Yelp
This place is fantastic. Loved the hole in the wall vibes and now I order to go frequently. Food is always great quality, but more importantly they load it up which many places in SEA do not do. They are SOO NICE!! I've ordered about half the menu but favorites ares the Rangoon for app, madman curry and pad see ew.

SuperGood R.

Yelp
Service was fast, I received food in under 10 minutes. Ordered a 2-star spice level pad thai, and for the most part, it was the exact spice level I expected. Food was delicious, not dry at all, and overall well proportioned. Despite it being a smaller restaurant, with not much seating space, I didn't feel uncomfortably crowded or claustrophobic. Great food, great staff. Will come again :)
google avatar

Celina S.

Yelp
The pad kee mao was good, but the way they overcooked the chicken + string beans / pork was so bad and I couldn't eat much. The string beans were soggy and the takeout box had tons of oil at the bottom. And yeah the chicken and pork were incredibly dry to the point where I just didn't eat the two dishes :(

Austin F.

Yelp
Its in the name, this Thai food is amazing! Definitely kinda central Thai leaning in flavor, Pad Thai is a tamarind base and sweeter so get it a little spicier. Look at the color youll see what I mean. Pad Kee Mao and Papaya salad are great, everything is so fresh and tasty! Ive been going for years and I learned they deliver!
google avatar

Allen U.

Yelp
Amazing is a real hole in the wall -my favorite type of restaurant kind.of.looks.like.a.dive.bar order take out if a.little too crowded for you-however if.you sit at.the "bar" you get to watch the wok show -flame.on -flame.off (they use a huge propane burner to cook on) #48 Pad See Ew with beef wide pan fried noodles @$12.98 is a winner-you can get 10 small.Fried.Spring rolls @$7.99 or.the Fresh roll (not.fried) @$8.99 try the Iced Thai coffee @$3 -tastes.like chocolate.milk shake-so no decor bring.out.the.awesome.food -cheers al

Yelp
The name of the restaurant might sound suspect, but believe me, it's the best Thai spot in the area. Everything I've had here is good. The best dish I've had is the Amazing Thai Noodles. I tend to go with curries at Thai, so it took me several tries to stumble upon these noodles. Prices and portion sizes are pretty standard, but given the quality, the value is definitely there. It was still takeout only last time I went
google avatar

Meilin L.

Yelp
Such amazing Thai food! We got the pad kee mao and noodle soup, which were both delicious. The staff were very friendly and hospitable. Would definitely come back again!

Aida M.

Yelp
Ordered a take out, chicken broccoli pepper fried rice. Dish is very tasty. Lots of white meat chicken given. Enough broccoli and little bell peppers. Customer service very polite. Will be back here to try more dishes

Samantha B.

Yelp
Made this our first stop in Seattle after seeing these rave reviews, and we couldn't agree more. This humble restaurant with only 4 or 5 tables and a counter was cozy and had excellent service. We ordered pad see ew and pad talay, both of which were delicious and generously portioned. Highly recommend!

Libby A.

Yelp
The people are so nice and genuine! They remember their regulars. The food is really good !! Even for take out, it holds up! 10/10!
google avatar

Luke D.

Yelp
Really love this place. Have gone to this place for going on 5 years and always have really enjoyed the crab fried rice and their curries. A great family ran establishment.
google avatar

Morgan R.

Yelp
Truly is Amazing. Tried this place for the first time tonight and felt compelled to leave a five star review. The service was attentive, friendly, and upbeat. Food was decently priced, given plentifully, and just delicious. My wife and I shared the veggie Tom yum soup, she got pad Thai, I got ultimate fried rice. Everything was good and we'll be back for sure. If you're planning on coming in person, be prepared to wait for a table and eat in a loud close quarters space. I like that atmosphere, but others might not.

Darek M.

Yelp
This is the magical hole in the wall Thai Place you have been dreaming about. Perfect food and service. In a town with a huge range of Thai Food choices this is exemplary.
google avatar

Claire S.

Yelp
It truly is amazing! Family run, kind prompt service, and fantastic food. A great place to go if you have gluten sensitivities as well!
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
We had a big order and they were able to organize everything in such a timely manner! The service was amazing and they were accommodating during the entire situation. The food was delicious as well and the portion-sizes were very generous. I had enough for the next day. Would totally recommend if you're looking for a good-priced thai place to eat :)

Kaitlin B.

Yelp
This place is amazing! My friend and i came here on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. The service was awesome our waiter was friendly and the food was SO GOOD!! Please please try the peanut sauce it is one of the best i've ever had. Would absolutely recommend!
google avatar

Jessamine A.

Yelp
We've been coming to Amazing Thai for years, and I can't recommend this restaurant enough! Kevin is the kindest and most attentive host and server I've ever had at a restaurant. The food is consistently delicious, service is fast, environment and decor are inviting, prices are reasonable, vegetarian and vegan options available, and the list goes on. You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Urba M.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick dinner takeout on a cold, rainy night. Tried the green curry with chicken with a spice level 4. The curry with the veggies were delicious, didn't love the chicken - was a bit chewy. We also tried the crab Rangoon, which was crispy with such a creamy filling. Also had the pad Thai with shrimp with a spice level 4 (I've had the level 5 before and it burns!!). Good portion sizes, reasonable prices and friendly folks, plus the good flavors - What else could you ask for?
google avatar

Le T.

Yelp
No dine in, to go only. Pad see ew was above average. It was too sweet and too much sauce, I enjoyed it though for the first half then getting too sweet. Will come back for other dishes
google avatar

Glenn G.

Yelp
I have probable driven by this place a thousand times and now I'm mad it took me this long to stop! I ordered the Pad Khi Mao, and I am very picky about this dish. It was absolutely fantastic! I also like very spicy food so I ordered 5 stars and it was, what I consider to be, exactly 5 stars - nice and spicy! If you've driven by here on Roosevelt countless times and wondered if this place lives up to its name, IT DOES! Try it now!
google avatar

Irene L.

Yelp
They are my favorite Thai place in the greater Seattle area. I always recommend people visiting to eat here. They are a quaint unassuming mom and pop restaurant but are mighty in taste and service. The dining space is small so I think take out is the way to go, in fact I've only ever had take out from here. Always get the pad see ew beef 3 stars (they take heat pretty seriously). I suspect I have a pretty good spice tolerance, 3 is perfect for enjoying and sometimes 4 for when I wanna sweat a bit and torture myself. Their house fried rice or pineapple fried rice are really good as well. I have yet to try the other less mainstream entrees at this establishment but I don't doubt they'll send my tastebuds into euphoria. Please come try for yourself and support a local business!
google avatar

Vanessa R.

Yelp
Yes the food is AMAZING abut the staff is even MORE AMAZING. i have never been here sitting down to eat because they have become my designated takeout place!! The inside is quaint and cute, but definitely small if you're looking to sit down. I have happened to be not feeling in the best mood before I place my order, and even after just placing a to-go order over the phone my day is 100% better. The staff here are all so sweet and genuinely care about your experience there. If you don't even like thai food. just come to have a pleasant dining experience!!!

Jordan M.

Yelp
Really good thai food - best in the area! The waiter is super friendly too which is nice! So far have tried the pad kee mao and pad see ew - can't go wrong with either, they were bith flavorful and delicious. The place is quite small though, so be prepared for that (although it is pretty cool since you can see the kitchen and the food being made). Definitely more of a hole in the wall but really impressive they have a single person making the food.
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
Small Thai spot that has your standard items like pad thai, drunken noodles, and curries. The owners here are sweethearts! I highly recommend getting 3/5 spice or below unless you can handle your spice!
google avatar

Roshan R.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. Food is spicier than expected. We ordered a spice level of 3/5 as we usually do in thai places we visit but the spice level 3 here is quite spicy. Beware of that. Also, they don't serve rice with curries. It has to be ordered separately. Green curry - 4/5 Massaman curry - 4/5 Pineapple fried rice - 3/5. Tastes more like curry fried rice with a few pineapple pieces here and there but that was not the issue. The dish had too much fish sauce. It's fine if you eat it hot but if you eat it a little later or microwave it, the fish sauce smell becomes very obvious.
google avatar

Nasiah R.

Yelp
Fortunately, the restaurant name was quite accurate. My dad kept on raving over how amazing his green curry tasted. Everyone was really friendly, patient, and helpful. I ordered the pad woon sen with chicken and Iced Thai Tea. My Thai Tea was decent but super sweet-the tea tasted a bit watered down. The pad woon sen tasted really fresh, flavorful, and filling. My serving size was great and the meal pricing is very reasonable. If you are looking for delicious Thai food look no further.
google avatar

Deanna T.

Yelp
This place is take-out only and has no seating options. They have pretty solid food although it's a bit inconsistent. Their service is pretty fast though so good to go if you're craving fast/solid Thai food. I'm knocking down a star because when I had a group order, the person at the front gave me back my receipt and said I needed to tip the kitchen (which I agree is a nice thing to do and maybe I should've) but typically I see this come up as a large order fee and a cost I'm informed of ahead of time. It feels weird to be asked/forced to tip on a takeout order.
google avatar

Rich H.

Yelp
Very fast and friendly service. I had the crab wonton butterfly and Massaman curry. The food was excellent. Unfortunately I did not get a picture of it because I was in such a hurry to try it
google avatar

Tammy H.

Yelp
A bit overpriced for the amount you're getting but the flavors are great! I would come back because the service is great and it is still filling. A bit confusing to find the location the first time since they only do take-out (you pick up your order at the fence).
google avatar

Madie G.

Yelp
Every time I order food from here, I am not disappointed. This is the best place in Seattle that I found for tasty, affordable, authentic Thai food. The owner and his family are the sweetest people I have ever met and will always take care of you and your needs. My favorites are the pad Thai, pad se ew, and Thai iced tea. Best wishes for the family, can't wait to order again soon!
