The Best Lunch Restaurants in Boston, According to Eater Editors | Eater Boston

"Acclaimed Puritan & Co. chef Will Gilson’s first fast-casual venture, Amba, is a sunny, welcoming cafe located among the new developments in East Cambridge. If breakfast at lunch is up your alley, they serve an all-day breakfast menu with eggy pitas and wraps; other lunchtime fare includes hummus bowls, pea and herb falafel in a pita (or added to a rice bowl), or a cheeseburger with lettuce, a tomato jam, harissa aioli, and pickled vegetables tucked into a pita." - Erika Adams

The 14 Best New Restaurants In Boston 2024

"When Amba opened in July in East Cambridge, it immediately elevated the lunch and takeout game in the neighborhood beyond your typical grab-and-go grinder. Amba is a downright dreamy all-day cafe from the people behind Puritan and Co., with tufted pink booths and a string of bar seats along the street-level windows. The Mediterranean-ish menu is extremely shareable, so bring a friend or two to cover the most ground. Start with the silken, garlicky hummus topped with a hearty amount of savory lamb and served with warm housemade pita. Follow that up with the arayes, a crunchier, crispy pita with ground spiced lamb smashed into it, doused with housemade Greek yogurt and a healthy drizzle of tomato jam. Add a side of shawarma fries—spiced crinkle cuts topped with pickled veggies and sweet white sauce—and lunch is in the bag." - tanya edwards

Happy I found this place! Seems like an ideal spot for coffee shop wfh days, weekend brunch, as well as coffee or lunch meetings. I ordered the chicken pita. All the ingredients were amazing - moist flavorful chicken, fresh veggies and sauces, soft pita. My only critique is the underside of the pita was soaked in the sauce (making it soggy) that is added to the inside. On my next visit, I’ll get the pita on the side with the fillings separate or try one of the rotisserie chicken dishes.

The food is fresh and delicious. I'll have to go back and try more next time! The staff are kind and service is great. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing. There's a lot of metered street parking around.

We were so pleased to be able to host an adoption celebration at Amba. The courthouse is only a few blocks away. The adoption was at 2:00 pm so we needed a place to celebrate when most places were not open. We were able to rent the community room which was perfect so the guest of honor, a two year old, could run around and play while the rest of us could celebrate. We had a few snacks in advance of a wonderful sit down dinner. The staff was wonderful and the food outstanding. Thank you Amba!!

In short: a great place for a quick or long bite, both breakfast and lunch. Great food and coffee. In length to those who love the details: We were 4 people coming with different levels of appetite, and we all found things to satisfy our specific wants. There was a hummus ball and a breakfast pita, coffees and a sweet pastry. All was amazing and just what we needed! The environment is really calming, looks like a modern, clean, Danish diner with an open kitchen. And we loved it. Moreover, the staff was sooooo nice, helpful and patience. We would definitely be back, and can't wait to try more things.

The food here is really fresh and good! Super tasty and flavorful! It's also healthy which is a bonus! I would go back here again. I was craving a cheeseburger but usually they are super heavy and greasy. I got the cheeseburger Pita and it was soo good! Every bite was delicious and it felt light! Also the fries were amazing! However, I wish they added some more sauce to my fries! They are a bit stingy with the sauce.

I tried one of the pita sandwiches and it was great, but the rotisserie chicken meal was really amazing. All very high quality and an awesome value (I got about 4 meals out of it, for $40 at the time of this review). You can tell a lot of thought went into the menu. A cozy space and accommodating staff too!

This place was such a vibe. The cashier was hilarious and so friendly. The atmosphere was stunning, hanging propagated plants everywhere and a clean trendy space. But the best part was the food. Felt so nourishing and so yummy at once. I got one of their bowls. I forgot the name but it had this sesame garlic sauce which was to die for.

First time visiting this gem. Atmosphere was cute and welcoming, a nice place to grab lunch. Lots of beverage offerings which is nice. I ordered the chicken shawarma pita to go. It was made in approximately 7 minutes. This was my first time ever having one of these so I honestly didn’t know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor profile. Lots of fresh ingredients. Big portion, and delicious. Staff was kind, smiling and approachable. I will definitely come back!
