"This Rose Ave spot serves excellent steakhouse classics, like a killer dry-aged 32 oz. porterhouse and the requisite sides (namely, a big potato pancake stuffed with onion and sour cream). There’s also a front patio adorned with colorful chairs, planters, and of course, that sweet Venice sunshine. It’s the perfect place to drink a cocktail, like the spicy tequila and celery-filled Friend Of The Devil, or our personal favorite, a dirty martini with bay leaf-infused vodka." - brant cox, sylvio martins, nikko duren
"Is this the year that the mall date makes a comeback? Here’s hoping, especially since American Beauty is open at The Grove. This new-school steakhouse has been charming Venice for years, and now has a larger location inside our favorite Beverly Grove shopping center with dancing fountains and a trolley. The retro-tinged space has dining rooms for big groups and a leafy front patio, but our pick before movie night is a meal at the horseshoe-shaped bar. Grab a dirty martini, decadent hash browns stuffed with onions and sour cream, the $33 hangar steak, then head over to AMC afterward." - sylvio martins, brant cox, cathy park
"A perennially busy option in Venice Beach for steak lovers, American Beauty excels because of its menu, ample outdoor seating, warm service, and striking midcentury space on Rose Avenue. Stop in for cocktails, dry-aged porterhouses, thick grilled bacon, and a mammoth hash brown stuffed with melted onions and sour cream. If going deep Westside isn’t ideal, a can’t-miss-it-if-you-tried American Beauty location is now open at the Grove." - Mona Holmes
"The chops at this modern steakhouse and bustling Venice restaurant are grilled over almond wood and finished with salt and butter. Meanwhile, sides like the melty, sour cream-stuffed hash browns and grilled artichoke complete the meal. The Window, the outpost’s to-go option, slings smash burgers and affordable grain bowls during the daytime, as has become a burger legend of sorts with outposts all over the city. The regal, rounded bar is the place to sit for an intimate date night or catch-up with an old friend." - Matthew Kang
"American Beauty is an American-style steakhouse founded in 2019 on Rose Avenue in Venice by American Gonzo (Paul Hibler and Jeff Goodman) and Bruce Horwitz (the Tasting Kitchen). It serves almond wood-grilled steaks sourced from notable farms and producers, including Flannery, Creekstone Farms, and Santa Carota. The steakhouse, which encountered some labor issues during the COVID-19 pandemic as a result of changing its tip pool model, has spun off a reasonably priced burger spot called the Window into a successful chain with locations in Venice, Silver Lake, Hollywood, Long Beach, and the Grove." - Matthew Kang
