I think it needs to be cleaned. It looks old an not cleaned. I know it's supposed to look clasic and it's good. I don't know what it is but it stinks like someone steped on some poop. It's not busy and still I have to wait a long. Time for my food. Chicken strips and fries. It's like they lost the touch of customer service. Chrome TV and other stuff I see smudges, people need to pay attention to those things because germs can grow. Quickly. I give the food a 3 star also. I've had better.

I've wandered past the diner for years. I've always enjoyed the art and atmosphere surrounding the building; it seems very authentic. Today I finally stopped in and sat at the counter. The place was clean, and I was cheerfully greeted by the host, then by my waitress. She immediately took my drink order (orange juice) and quickly came back with a really fresh-tasting drink. The waitress let me take my time to figure out what I wanted to order, and she was there as soon as I closed the menu. Since I was sitting at the counter, I got to see everything made basically in front of me. My eggs, pancakes, and bacon were all fried up fresh and were very quick, even right in the middle of the lunch rush. When my food made its way to me, I dug in - everything was cooked perfectly. The pancakes weren't as fluffy as I make them myself, but they were flavorful and soaked up the syrup perfectly. When I finished, I ordered another orange juice (as fresh and delicious as the first) and sat around doodling for a little while, as I was killing time. The staff never made a move to get me to leave, and continued being incredibly polite. When I was ready for my bill, they had it for me immediately. Overall, the service was friendly and quick, the food was delicious, classic diner fare, the environment clean, and everything was well-priced. The American City Diner will definitely see me again.

Such good food and such nice people. From the home fries and burgers to the milkshakes and breakfast everything here is pretty good. A cute aesthetic and vibe, plus not too steep prices makes this place a fun stop for my daughter and her friends on a regular basis.

I love eating their basic breakfast here. It's a pretty simple place to eat. Fairly pricy. Food isn't extravagant, but it's decent. If you're looking for a "homemade" meal. This is your place, if you want something a little more upscale I recommend going further into DC or Bethesda.

The waitress was friendly and good customer service. I ordered the meatball sub with fries,my husband ordered Belgian waffle, home fries and fried egg. The portion size were good and good taste, but then my husband discovered 2 pieces of hair in his homefries. We didn't bother making the staff aware because it was toward the end of the meal. I observed the two male cooks without hair nets which should be required.

I am beyond annoyed right now. There are not many options for Saturday lunch nearby where I work. With the cold temperatures I decided to give this diner another chance. I have walked by lately and seen on their board keep us in business and come in. I have ordered from them before and if I get what I order it is pretty good. Today I ordered a Rueben with French Fries and a soda. I saw one set of prices on their website. When I went to pickup the woman at the counter told me $21. I was thinking to myself that is ridiculously expensive but I am sure it’s going to be good I’m starving. All I asked was how much is the sandwich. She told me 14.95 for the sandwich and 1.25 for the fries. Upon opening my sandwich I couldn’t believe as to what little amount of fries there were for over $16. I called to see why on their menu were different prices and that they aren’t doing good business and giving good portions considering they are a diner. The person that answered was nice but not the person to help. The diner is filthy and overpriced. I am sad to write a review considering I grew up in the diner business and my entire family is in the business. Where did the $21 come from. Was I overcharged or do they charge charge $5 for a soda and tax? This diner is lacking management service and anyone to take ownership of the place. Hire a cleaning crew to do a spring cleaning. Could and should be packed 24/7. Learn how to treat your customers. I eat out when I am out this way weekly and there is a reason I have only been there 3x in two years. I won’t be coming back. It’s a shame because food is pretty good.

Awesome place !!! Staff is friendly and very accommodating to the customers. Food is amazing. I had the spaghetti and meatballs and it was great. Husband had chick and sausage over spaghetti and it was all he could do to finish it. Would highly recommend this diner if you looking for a friendly , good food place to eat.

Decent prices. Good food. Great milkshakes! And I can't remember which night I went, but they drew the shades and played a movies on a projector. It was a nice surprise. I assume its a usual thing though.
