When It Comes to Cheese, This New Burger Is Thinking Outside the Bun | Eater

"Credited as an early originator of the trend, this Tokyo smashburger-focused American diner has been serving a similar burger in silken cheese since 2022, and its influence reflects the yoshoku tradition of Western food with a Japanese twist that helped spark the sizzling-cheese burger’s broader spread." - Bettina Makalintal

Quick service, average food, cramped seating The burgers at American Diner Andra aren’t bad, but they’re not great either. One of the patties had some chewy bits, and the cheese-covered burger, while eye-catching, falls flat in flavor — the cheese doesn’t really enhance the experience. The place also has tables that are way too small or tight, making it uncomfortable to sit and enjoy your meal, especially if you’re tall or carrying bags. That said, the service is impressively fast, and the staff moves efficiently even when the place is busy — that’s definitely a plus. If you’re nearby and craving a burger, it’ll do, but keep in mind: this is Tokyo, and there are far better burgers around if you’re willing to look.

This has been on my wish list for so long! Guys, it’s so good, service on point, and the atmosphere really reminds you of a standard American diner that you would see on Route 66. Lots of American Football jerseys, maps of America, and the good old red/white/blue colors everywhere! Minimum burger patty per burger is 2, and goes up to 4 patties. We got the Oklahoma classic burger, the cheese in bottom burger, and the poutine! All of them were so good, but the Oklahoma hits hard because the pickles and tomato sauce were delicious 🤤 We deserved beforehand, but I’ve seen quite a long line queue up on the weekend.

Tried both the touchdown burger as well as the animal style burger. The touchdown burger with the sizzling cheese plate is definitely the highlight here. I was worried that it might be overcooked sitting on the hotplate and melted cheese, but was pleasantly surprised that the meat was still very juice and tender. Everything tasted perfectly together, even though it was slightly messy to eat. The animal style burger was definitely not as good in comparison, but the fries were pretty decent. The space itself is cosy and quite small, but the seating is comfortable and the staff were nice and accommodating.

Service and food were AMAZING!!! The restaurant is so clean, I loved that they were playing early 2000s hits. We got the cheeseburgers (the chef accommodated my no sauce request which was so kind)! So flavorful and the buns were nice and soft. We also got the quesadilla, which comes with cheese and shredded beef and drizzled with honey (an unexpected but delightful surprise!) We will definitely be back next time we come to Japan!

Really enjoyed my experience at Andra. The touchdown burger was made famous on social media, so I went with it. Really good! Highly recommend. I suggest getting there early. As we were leaving there was a long line to get in.

We loved our experience here! Such a cool little restaurant with diner vibes and great decor. The smash burger in the melted cheese was next level PENG! Highly recommend to go just for that. Trust!

Excellent places, they do american food better than America. We can in 8 people deep, and like all Japanese restaurants, seating is limited. They were how ever able to accommodate all 8 of us. 5 at the bar and 3 at the table. I was lucky to sit at the bar with my friends and watch the show as the 3 behind the counter work flawlessly in unison to craft our meals. Well worth the walk, very little wait, we were well taken care of. And best of all lots of pittsburgh sports memorabilia on the walls

Probably the best burgers I have tasted in Japan. The staff is super kind and can communicate in english with foreigners very smoothly. Sort of felt bad for the staff having to work overtime the night I went due to the large line of customers not far away from closing hours, to which we contributed to haha.
