"Organic wheat is used to make fresh dough daily at this wood-fired pizzeria, whose outpost at City Hall Park is one of the company’s 11 locations spread across New England. Thin crusts are topped with organic tomato sauce, locally made cheeses, and meats like housemade maple-fennel pork sausage. Try fan favorite the Revolution, topped with caramelized onions, mushrooms, mozzarella, grana padano, and fresh herbs. American Flatbread was founded in Waitsfield, VT in 1988, opened its Burlington location in 2004, and has been a downtown institution ever since." - Anna Darrow, Heather Platt

Google
Really nice atmosphere and pretty neat to see the wood fire oven in action. We ordered a half and half pizza with the local Vermont cheese half and one of the other specialty flatbreads. We also had a salad and both were delicious. This is a great place to take a family. It seems pretty popular and they were on a wait list as we were leaving, so you may want to reserve a table on the weekends.

Google
Tasty pizza and great drinks. The atmosphere was very nice with a fun vibe to celebrate new years. Really appreciated the customer service: Bar was backed up so drinks came out late after our pizza. When the bill came we realized they comped our first round of drinks. They really didn’t need to do this but was a very pleasant surprise.

Google
If I could give this place 6 stars for their hot cider alone, I would. After a hike in Camel’s Hump, this pizza was exactly what we needed. The New Vermont Sausage is a must get - some of the best pizza I’ve had. Ever. Their estimated wait time was a lot shorter than expected and we were seated promptly despite a busy evening. Great service, excellent atmosphere. Highly recommend this place, whether you’re a Burlington local or just stopping by!

The food is amazing and the best stout I have ever had. I highly suggest that if you are in Vermont, you must stop in and enjoy a meal and great brews.

Stopped here for lunch while exploring downtown Burlington, glad we did. Sat outside on a perfect fall day. Staff were friendly and professional and attentive without being too much. Wife and I both got salad and mini-flatbreads. Combined with a beer and you have a perfect lunch. The salads were delicious and perfectly dressed. The flatbreads were delicious, with a wonderful crust and a variety of creative toppings. The beers were amazing as well. When we return to Burlington, we will come back here for sure.

Located at 115 St. Paul Street since 2004, American Flatbread is housed in an awesome historic building just a short walk from the Church Street Marketplace. Built in 1884, the old brick building was once home to Nathaniel King Browns Proprietary Medicines, The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Carbers Sandwich Shop, and the Biltmore Grill Steakhouse.

Google
Nice little gem- see pictures and video. Customer service was great, and so was the quality of the food. Dine in to have the full experience. The prices are fairly reasonable for the amount of ambience of the place and the quality of the food.

Tri-state pizza snob here, the pizza was amazing. Highly recommend going with half and half options so you can try more than one kind if you’re with someone.

Yelp
love american flatbread! great place for kids! vermont sausage is the best. we love sitting so we can see the fire.

John D.

Yelp
College student fare. Beware. Kudos for seating us immediatly for our timed reservation. That's the only good thinkg I have to say. The pizza was OK. The cost was too high. The service was poor. The noise level was Terrible. The ambiance is acceptable for college kids. I've been out of college a long time. As our server told us while we waited an hour for our pizza, "..there is one oven and one cook.". That says it all. Meanwhile our server was more interested in talking with her firends at the bar than serving us.

Yelp
Now I want to say that my low rating is due to our waitress & bar tender. The food is always amazing, that atmosphere is cozy, and with a few coasters the tables always level out (it's an old building but that's its charm). Anyways my rating again based on the two staff. I ordered a cocktail and when it came out it was pink. Before I could mention the waitress placed it and away she went. Now I know the ingredients for what I ordered and nothing would make it pink. To see what it was I took a sip and it was citrus flavored. Definitely not the right drink (Manhattan) I had to get up to get my waitress and I said I think this is incorrect and asked for it to be remade. Now it could be a simple oops or maybe grabbed the wrong drink. It happens and that I would be understanding to. But that was not what happened next. Instead she came to the table with the same drink in hand and said that her and the bartender had smelled it and it smells correctly. I said well a Manhattan is bourbon or rye with agnosta bitters and sweet vermouths. Nothing citrus and nothing that comes out pink ever. But I don't know what bothers me more, that your your arguing with me rather than just remake it correctly or that you told me you both stuck your noses in a drink and are now serving it back to me!!!! Distrusting!!!! This occurrence happened a few months back now and it still just greatly bothers me so I couldn't stay quiet and wanted to share my worst experience here. Again it is not the norm but I haven't been back since.

Yelp
I really like their small pizza for lunch. Good variety of choices. A bit pricey for pizza. Sit at the bar, margarita pizza, or something with sausage. A good beer. Good efficient service and pleasant decor.

Jennifer R.

Yelp
I've eating plenty of their frozen pizza but never fresh and yummmmmm. Awesome bread, large choice of toppings. Half and half option is great! Our server was very nice and efficient. Def a go for wood fired, my favorite. We chose the Dancing Heart plus jalapeno and the Revolution.

Bob L.

Yelp
Great flatbread! We were quite happy with the food we ordered. Inside has a nice warm ambiance to it and the staff was friendly! What we ordered (as of 6/2024): - 1/2 PEPPERONI & PEPPERS and 1/2 NEW VERMONT SAUSAGE - $27 - While the pepperoni and peppers was good, the star was definitely the Vermont sausage which had a nice sweet and spicy kick to it. Can't go wrong with either! - Evolution salad - $9 - Simple and refreshing. Good balance with the flatbread! - Garlic oil - $2 - I really enjoyed this. Perfect for drizzling on your flatbread. The punchy garlic really makes this worthwhile as an add-on. - Organic tomato sauce - $3 - Also a nice addition if you're missing the "pizza" aspect to your flatbread! Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our meal here and would 100% recommend this place!

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Oh...my...gods. This was the best meal of our whole trip. We got The Medicine Wheel and Cheese and Herb-- both were absolutely delicious. The crust was perfect, the seasonings were perfect, the cheese was perfect. Everything was perfect. They brew their beers in-house, which is a major plus, and they have plenty of nonalcoholic options. Get the apple crisp for dessert!

Keith C.

Yelp
Very cool vibe with this place. I recommend the winterlong flat bread. It mixes veggies with just a touch of maple drizzle to give you the savory flavor with a touch of sweet. The people take care of you from the moment you walk in.

Jason J.

Yelp
My review is more about the service than anything else. The food and scene is amazing with beautiful windows overlooking City Hall Park. We brought our toddler here and the staff was amazing and very supportive even when we had a minor noisy incident. Would love to come back here our next time in town.

Megan K.

Yelp
Farm to table with local products delivered in wood fire pizzas. We stopped by for a lunch which was pretty quiet. I got the veggie special with squash and spinach and my husband got the pepperoni pizza with peppers. The staff wasn't the most attentive but the pizzas were yummy with a thin crisp crust and good flavors.

Deena J.

Yelp
I loved the variety of toppings and pairings of the flatbreads. We got a large Punctuated Equilibrium pizza [added red sauce] & it was superb. Neither of us particularly enjoy Italian sausage on pizza, but this fennel pork sausage was prepared in a way that it gives a pleasant taste while not being chunky or over doing it. Although this restaurant was bustling on a Sunday evening, our server got to us in a reasonable amount of time. Great cozy ambiance.

Sandee L.

Yelp
Oooooh, wood fired flatbread sounded great after our 20 mile e-bike ride! LOL, we really worked for it! We got the special salad and new Vermont sausage flatbread. The special salad had a few questionable slimy bits stuck to the big leaves and we weren't sure if a raspberry was moldy or a good chunk of blue cheese got really embedded in it. It would have been nice if the red onion was also sliced thinner or even lightly pickled. All in all, it was tasty after we avoided a few bites. The new Vermont sausage had a really nice chewy and crunchy crust, the toppings were generous but lacked a lot of flavor. I even doused mine with red pepper flakes, which I usually don't use at all. Live music on their patio on select evenings or check out their wood fired oven in action inside. Metered street parking only.

Sandy H.

Yelp
We came twice while we were in town for a conference. Amazing food and wonderful service.

Mary N.

Yelp
Pizza was great! Spotless, clean, decorated for fall weather. Prices are reasonable for the area. My husband had the pepperoni and I had the sausage. I removed two toppings from my pizza and asked them to bring me a little Parmesan cheese on the side. They did so in a tiny Soufflé cup. Just enough for me to sprinkle on top of my pizza. They charged me $2.00 for the little Soufflé cup of cheese...I mean, I removed 2 toppings from the pizza, and then you charge me for that? I just felt like that was unnecessary. Also, the chairs do not match the ambiance of the restaurant. Here we are in a dim lite, cozy feel type of restaurant, and the chairs are hard as rocks. At the chairs for the high top tables are hard and proportionality too high. A five foot four woman literally has to climb into the chair. This place needs more comfortable chairs. As soon as possible. It's an urgent thing. My food was great. The ambiance was great. The place feels cozy and warm from the pizza ovens. The chairs had me running out.'I would of stayed longer and drank an extra drink or two if I was comfortable in my seat.

Paul B.

Yelp
I judge every pizza joint by their vibe, their dough, their margarita pizza, their beer, and their service. This place had a great vibe. The patio was a great spot to enjoy a meal. The service & our drinks were good. The dough for the pizza was delicious, but the margarita pizza was a disaster, almost offensive. They really should take it off the menu. Fortunately, the pepperoni & peppers saved the day.

Benjamin C.

Yelp
We've been to several American Flatbreads, and they are always good. Particularly the salads! We recommend the Evolution salad with goat cheese. Big enough for two people to share as a starter. The kids shared a small medicine wheel with pepperoni. We had a large 1/2 power to the people and 1/2 Revolution. The Power to the people was great - exactly as described. In contrast, the revolution seemed like a straight mushroom people. We took some pepperoni from the kids people to jazz it up a bit. We would not have that one again with the other more interesting options. Service was friendly! We sat outside; it was a lovely day.

Danielle J.

Yelp
First time at American Flatbread. We made a reservation for 8 people as we were bringing our daughter and 5 of her friends for a Friday night dinner. The decor is rustic and clean, with a great wood burning pizza stove. Service was excellent, especially since there were 8 of us. After looking over the menu, several of us decided to split pizzas. As college kids, leftovers are always welcome. Portion sizes were great. The crust was perfect. I specifically enjoyed the punctuated equilibrium. So good! We will definitely be back! Wish I had taken pics!

Meredith O.

Yelp
Had a wonderful dinner at American Flatbread in Burlington, VT last Friday. The weather was beautiful and we got a seat outside to enjoy it. The pizza was delicious and our server was attentive. I cannot have gluten or dairy and she went over all the options for me and was knowledgeable enough to make me feel comfortable in that I would be able to get something safe for me. I will definitely go back the next time I am in the area.

Chris M.

Yelp
Love this place! We make sure to eat here every time we visit Burlington. Always delicious!

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Delish good food with a great service staff. The menu is small but I loved that a lot of the ingredients were locally sourced. My son and I sat outside enjoying the lovely day

Mary Ann S.

Yelp
The flatbread pizza was delicious. The service was excellent. The outdoor seating was clean and a refreshing change instead of sitting inside

Arashinder D.

Yelp
The food is really good. The soup was amazing. The staff was warm. Service was quick and accommodating. Ambience is nice.

Jeffrey K.

Yelp
I'll keep this short and sweet. Pizza snob here. From NY if that means anything, but who cares. This place? Killer. Pizza? Good. Good cheese, good sauce, good char. FRESH JALAPEÑOS . Great service. There was a wait, it might've been because it was the eclipse day, but it was totally worth it. They made up for the wait.

Christina R.

Yelp
We came in on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm and the place was still bumpin' from the lunch rush but thankfully we were able to be seated right away. Well... not exactly right away. We stood at the hostess stand for a good 5 min while she was on the phone with someone who had EVERY question about the pizza offerings here. Then they didn't even place an order. But, eh, I understand staffing shortages, I'm in that situation myself. We decided to get a few cocktails instead of beer and I do not recommend that. The cocktails were not good. I mean they got the job done but they were not pleasurable in the slightest. What was pleasurable was the salad and the meat special flatbread we got (it had bacon jam, cheddar cheese and spinach.) At first I was annoyed there was only one salad and I couldn't change the dressing on it but once we got it all was forgiven because it tasted great. I'd love a bottle of that ginger sesame dressing, it's so good. The flatbread dough was perfectly crispy but also tender. Cooked to perfection, the kid working the oven knows his craft. The service was ok for us. Nothing special but not the worst service I've ever had. It did take a long time for our pizza to come out but it was a bit busy so it's understandable.

De'Anna W.

Yelp
Food: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Service received: 2.5 This was a great find for me. I've had their frozen flatbreads before but never knew they had an actual restaurant. After about a 10 min wait I was able to get a table for 1 outside on the patio. My server wasn't great. Nice guy but it took a while for him to greet me, forgot to bring my drink (but apologized), didn't explain the menu when I expressed it was my first time and wasn't present after the pizza was delivered. I had to ask someone else for a box and the check. Not sure if his shift ended or what but he kind of just disappeared. The meal made up for the lack of service. It was delicious. Had I understood the menu a little more I would definitely have done half and half. What I got was very good though and heated up well as leftovers. They were out of apple cider so I tried the sour Cherry and was very pleased. Cold, crisp and sweet. A nice treat. I was just on layover staying at a hotel nearby but I'd love to come back here and dine again one day.

Chris B.

Yelp
Exactly what the doctor ordered! A cozy, laid back spot for pizza featuring an open fireplace, large selection of pizza styles, and plenty of seating. I would definitely recommend this spot as an easy and guaranteed tasty lunch while you're in town. The service was super friendly too. The large pizza is perfect for two (fairly hungry) diners. I like that they allow you to do half pies too!

Kate C.

Yelp
We stopped here late on a Friday for pizza and a much needed glass of wine when coming up to pickup our college daughter. This is one of the only spots open in Burlington that serves food late, surprising as it's a college town. Also lots of vegetarian options. We were seated promptly and our cheese pizza and cheese pizza with ricotta and mushrooms disappeared so fast I didn't take a pic of the pies lol. Good food & service, clean, cool entry door, and you can see the pizza being made, nice bar area too.

Catherine H.

Yelp
Nice outdoor pizza place.thw staff were very accommodating and kind with an elder with a service dog. Delicious food and gf was pretty awesome. Got my order wrong re df but we're very nice about.

Thomas T.

Yelp
Conveniently located near Church Street Marketplace. You can put your name down and they will text you when the table is ready. It was cool seeing them bake the flatbreads in the pizza oven. The staff does a great job keeping track of the orders with the restaurant full with each table ordering a flatbread or two. There was only one salad on the menu and it's a really good one! The quality of the flatbread was good and the price was very reasonable. The bar has a good selection of draft beer. The service was average during a busy lunch time.

J Katelyn M.

Yelp
Food was amazing! Service was great! The rustic vibe made for an enjoyable experience.

M M.

Yelp
We had a late lunch here. The small is plenty for two people. We saw one family of 5 order four large and they were boxing up a HUGE amount at the end. Our flatbread was yummy but there were very few sundried tomatoes on it.

Renee C.

Yelp
The Ambiance of this place is great. The kitchen/wood fire was such a warm old feel. The fireplace in the corner kept us warm on a wet cool fall afternoon.

Nicholas W.

Yelp
One bite everyone knows the rules. We ordered an evolution salad, a revolution pizza and a couple beers. I started with a Pacific Cooler which is a New Zealand style pilsner. My Fiancé kept it classic with an Uptown Orbit New England style IPA. We were both happy with our drinks. Lots of exposed brick in here. Cool ambiance and the outdoor seating looked very nice even though we sat inside. This is some good pie. The pizza was cooked perfectly. Dough sauce cheese toppings . It all passed the test. It did have some flop due to the way they cut it in thin strips, but that doesn't detract from what I consider a good pizza (sorry Portnoy). I figured the salad would be your run of the mill salad but it was unforeseeably delicious, very well put together and fresh. This place pays attention to the details. The staff were very lively and friendly. They were well spoken and made eye contact when chatting with us. Most of them appeared to be young adults/college students if I had to guess. Next time we're in town we'll definitely pop back in. This establishment seemed to be well managed and thriving. Overall good experience.

Angie V.

Yelp
WOW! Such a good place with delicious flatbreads. Delicious! I especially enjoyed the ones with mushrooms. No surprise this place has so many good reviews- very well deserved.

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
This pizza is so good and the service was fast. The server was so nice too. I got the mushroom w caramelized onion. It's a little pricy but it's worth it. I got a small and I inhaled a whole one myself tho I could've easily inhaled a large one because when it comes to pizza I'm a professional eater. The crust was so good too, like a bit salty and perfect New York style. The cheese is all from up in these parts and just all so fresh.

Jim U.

Yelp
More toppings please. That's my only complaint. Very skimpy even for flatbread pizza (4 cut olives in the whole pizza??!!). Nice beer list and friendly service. Great outdoor area with live music.

Jordan B.

Yelp
Great place to bring the kids or a famished soccer team. They also seem to hire some of the happiest staff from UVM. Always a good vibe. As for the food, living in NYC for too many years has made my pizza tooth quite pretentious, but they have fresh pie with good ingredients. Can't complain about that. Plus, they even have stuff to keep the kids occupied while you unwind with some vino.

Cassie P.

Yelp
Pizza was spot on... delicious! The crust was perfection. The combo of toppings was amazing! 5/5 on the pizza! The house salad.. simple but delicious. Add a few toppings of your choice to it! Bar menu was fun.. try a few brews! Would give 5 stars if our waitress had been nicer. She was actually pretty rude. they were busy but she could still have been nicer.

Tyler C.

Yelp
I am a fan of American flatbread but after spending almost $60 on two pizzas and finding multiple hairs on both pizzas and the side of ranch that I paid for not with the order I don't think I will be back.

Hannah C.

Yelp
Been here a few times with different sized groups. Pizza is great. Salad is also great. Dessert is also great. Solid pick all around for a place to eat. Would definitely return.

Ann E.

Yelp
Hadn't been here in a while. Was very happy that the flatbread is just as delicious as I remembered it to be. My sister and I shared a large flatbread that was 1/2 Medicine Wheel and 1/2 meat special. So good! Wish we could have eaten it all. We each had half pours of the Dunkel and the Blanche de Vereaux- both were very good. Didn't realize that they were brewing their own beer now. Katie was our very helpful and attentive server. Will definitely return when in Burlington.

Megan M.

Yelp
I don't know what beats what. Food or service. Both seem to either outdo each other or complement each other in the best way possible. It wouldn't matter if you're starved or stuffed to the gills. May the intoxicating scent of freshly made pizza lure you in. You're immediately greeted by the hostess staff, as if you're entering a warm and cozy home. My family and I had just spent the better part of the morning and afternoon at the ECHO Museum. As I always say, there's no wrong choice for food in Burlington, but American Flatbread was definitely a divine choice. Our waitress promptly took our boys' order and within a blink, here came this round thing of beauty. My almost 4-year-old is a picky eater and this was something he was unable to refuse. My husband and I ordered a large cheese and the Evolution salad. Unfortunately, our pizza was taken to the wrong table by the runner. We still had our salad to indulge. I was in love. Vinaigrette was tangy and light. The lettuce, fresh, light and crisp. I had to ask if anyone has ever just ordered the family size just to finish on their own, because I felt like I could. (FYI: f you are planning to eat a full family size, the salad bowl is as big as the table for 4.) Shortly after, our pizza arrived. Shortly after that, the pizza disappeared without a trace. I enjoyed everything from the very first second to the bittersweet last. This whole restaurant represents everything about this fine city, from the people to the craft they create and I can't wait to come back.

Marci S.

Yelp
Food was good and very reasonable. Menu was varied, I had a spicy chicken bowl and my daughter had steak and FF. We were.part of a large party and our waitress was on tip of everything. $3 margaritas were a nice surprise, and were very good.

Jude W.

Yelp
Thus far, the best pizza I've had since being in Vermont. My beverage was ginger beer, which was awesome. The pepperoni and sausage pizza was fantabulous. The flatbread crust had perfect texture, and the accommodative tomato sauce, cheese, pepperoni, sausage, and seasonings were nothing short of phenomenal. I also enjoyed the lamb and vegetable soup, which was extremely flavorful. The ambiance had a very chill and homely vibe, and the servers were very friendly and attentive. Needless to say, I will definitely return to explore other entrées on the menu.

Rose M.

Yelp
I have been here before and enjoyed my experience but this time was pretty horrible. Service was the worst part (2/5). I can't remember the last time I had to go up to the hostess to request my check and a to go box. This was after patiently waiting to be ignored considering the parties to the left and right of me were waited on. Waitress never came back to see how we were doing so basically no refills. Menu is pizza and 2 choices of salad only. Pretty basic and boring. We had sausage pizza and a meat lovers pizza. 4/5. It is a Flatbread shaped like a pizza. Slices are small thin rectangles so don't expect slices. I will not return. There are too many other places within walking distance to enjoy.

Robin R.

Yelp
Delicious gluten free pizza and dairy free cheese option! Garden seating very enjoyable.

Laura P.

Yelp
The food here was great - loved the Cheese & Herb flatbread! What really made me like American Flatbread was the house beer! During our trip in Vermont, I was looking for reasons to go back to this place just to have try it again.

Derik B.

Yelp
It's been awhile since we've gone, but it's one of our favorites. The pizza is great and we love the cozy atmosphere.

S C.

Yelp
Great flatbread. I usually do take out and they are always on time. Parking is usually found - sometimes I need to circle the block once or twice.
