Google
Cool store with vintage clothes. Everything is a bit overpriced. $50+ for shirts. Taking advantage of Los Angeles people with more money. Worth checking out though.

Google
Loved this store!!!! Everything is expensive but it’s a great collection of clothing and a wide variety of luxury brands. Left feeling glad that I learned about a lot of new brands.

Google
This is not a retail store it is a partial consignment/resale store who has absolutley no advertisement to let the buyer know that it is resale/consignment and the prices for everything in this store are 3-5x more expensive than actual resale prices. I bought a clone young boy shirt at 1875 AED and the resale price on StockX was $79 or about 4-500 AED. Absolutley scamming everyone on every brand they keep in stock

Google
Great place to pick up your favorite brands from Publish, Candor to Junya Wantanabe. Great service people like Nick Kruse to help you out with you needs to tailor all your aesthetics. They have a wide range of price points from mid tier to high. Brand variety differentiating from what Union carries down the street. If you got time and money to spend and splurge on, this place is it. They also have their own parking garage which a def plus. 1.5 hours with validation which helps alleviate the stressors of finding parking on La Brea.

A senior woman worker and two cashiers tried scamming me. Rung up a shirt with an extra zero, and conveniently when the cashier asks for payment the manager tries to spark a conversation. Funny thing there are no refunds just store credit. Hope you hit your yearly sales quota with those tactics!

Google
Disappointing Experience at American Rag Dear, AmericanRag, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with a recent experience at American Rag, which has regrettably led me to rate my experience with one star. While I appreciate the friendly staff who work there, my recent visit was disappointing. I have purchased items online before and successfully returned them without issue. However, when I attempted to return a couple of items purchased previously, I was informed that I would not be refunded. When I inquired further, I was pointed to a sign regarding return policies that was not clearly visible unless explicitly shown. One of the items I returned was simply the wrong size, and although I wanted to exchange it for a smaller size, it was not available. Instead of receiving a refund, I was given store credit on an American Rag gift card. This experience left me feeling frustrated and undervalued as a customer. It appears that the store may be struggling with customer service and retention. Having shopped at American Rag since childhood, it is disheartening to see how much the store has changed. A friend of mine, who owns a large clothing store, was also shocked by my experience. If your return policy truly benefits your customers, I believe there is a significant issue that needs addressing. In an era where online shopping is thriving, such policies could hinder the retail experience. I regret that other customers may face similar challenges. This letter is not fueled by anger but rather by sadness for a store I once loved. My family, all of whom are in the entertainment industry, share my concerns and have decided not to shop here any longer. In light of these experiences, one has to wonder: if customers can’t get their money back, what’s stopping anyone from simply leaving the store without paying for items? I find this approach unprincipled, and I believe American Rag would be upset if they experienced the same treatment. Additionally, I encountered issues returning an item purchased online. I assumed I would receive a refund, as stated on your website. After numerous emails, I made the long drive to the store, only to find that returns could not be processed unless the "online guy" was present. Unfortunately, I was told he is only available a few times a week and is difficult to reach. This series of events raises serious concerns about the customer service and return policies at American Rag. I hope you will take this feedback to heart, as I genuinely wish for the store to succeed and regain its former reputation. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, Ashley George Hamilton

Google
Overly expensive (nice word for rip off) levi's (double price compared to Levi's online store , example 511 stretch flex $98 here, $48 online). No reason to go there except for the wifi and free parking (ironic)

Google
Exceptional Service from Steven! I had an amazing experience at American Rag Cie thanks to Steven! I came in close to closing time looking for the right size of the Paraboot Michael, and he went out of his way to help me. Despite the time, he was incredibly patient, kind, and dedicated to making sure I found exactly what I needed. It's rare to find someone so professional and attentive. If you're shopping here, definitely look for Steven—he’s outstanding!

Yelp
Big and has a lot of cool items ! They had a variety of slevedge denim (naked and famous, Levi's LVC, Lee, etc etc).

Yelp
Had a really odd SALE display in the window display. The different groups of merchandise they have is clashing & overwhelming, like the owner can't decide what they want the shop to be. Feels like somebody's tacky garage. Bummer to see what used to be an LA classic get washed up...

Yelp
Seems like an alright place, it has a huge selection. For the amount of stuff that they offer though, it's a bit on the pricier side (even for the vintage stuff). The employees there seemed somewhat friendly. Some were sweet and some were a bit grumpy. It's a hit or miss kind of store, but it's worth a visit.

Cheff H.

Yelp
Shopped an online sale, never received any confirmation of the order, but my card was charged. Have emailed almost 10 days through various channels and have never received a single response

Yelp
Very odd to have a camera in a dressing room!!! Even tho it's covered by paper I felt VERRRRYYY uncomfortable only seeing it after I had already changed!!!! WHY WAS IT THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE??? WHO KNOWS IF THIS THING IS STILL ACTIVE!!!! I left and will not be coming back so horrible!!!

Yelp
NEVER BUY ANYTHING HERE OR MAISON MIDI!!!!!! I purchased the famous Jean Dubost Chef knife set and the spoon and fork set as well at Maison Midi on LaBrea.l July 22nd. My mom and I got cut after using it for less than a few seconds on the same position. The handle and the top of the knife was sharper than the bottom blade (cutting edge) of the knife. We both bled and took us a week later to find time to return the knives we feared to touch again a week later on July 29th. They sent me to AM Rag few stores down for a store credit only which was already inconvenient and only to find out after showing my cut skin that remained open and sore after a whole week since first attempt to use, the owner of the brand , Susan Starr and the store manager, Sarah Koenig refused to give a store credit , because the product has been open and not in the original packaging. I explained I love the knife set but it is clearly not treated safely on the handle and the top part is sharper than the cutting edge on the bottom, and I wouldn't have known that by just looking at the packaged product. It was crystal clear because my mom and I came into the store to show our deep cuts even after a week of use which was within their 14 day policy. You guys should be ashamed to let the customers get injured and cared less for potential business. You saw the injury in person and I was upset about the injury happened to both my mom and myself. I have multiple chefs in family and friends and none of have seen the knife being that dangerous. So upset, please dont shop at this brand at all!!!! They can't stand behind the value of the brand they are representing!!!!!!! They are too proud to admit they had a default product even with 2 injured customers came in person to show their wounds and they told me they couldn't help in any way. Such an aggravating and Sad experience with AM RAG and Maison Midi, and now I dont trust in Jean Dubost anymore.

Yelp
I haven't been to this store for probably a decade, back when I lived and breathe fashion, and worked in the contemporary market. This weekend I found myself on La Brea and decided to stop in. I'm glad I did because there is such a diverse selection of styles and price points; truly something for everyone at this store! Perhaps I was less observant in my younger years, but I didn't realize there is also a vintage store attached! So even more shopping! I will definitely be doing less online shopping and doing more in store at this location in the near future! It's an LA staple for almost 40 years for a reason!

Yelp
DO NOT BUY ONLINE!! They will NOT allow returns. I bought a $200 pair of shoes that did not fit. I responded the day after I received them through the email provided for returns. Nothing. I continue to email them. Nothing. I call the store and tell them - they said, I'll let them know. Nothing. I continue to email and even try to email Mike Flynn (the person responsible for online stuff) personally. Nothing. Continued and continue. Never a response, it's been over a month. They will not let you return things as they will never respond. Their return policy is a LIE. Will never buy from this company again and make sure no one around me does.

Yelp
Headed to The Grove, Beverly Center or Century City for shopping? Hit up American Rag, the granddaddy of La Brea Avenue, first! Legendary jean selection (new and vintage) along with boatloads of cool threads. The store is so neat and clean! Lots of folks to help you find stuff and getting the fitting rooms ready for your arrival. Did I mention their free parking lot (just south of the store entrance on La Brea)? No need to watch your Lambo's meter while wallets are emptied at this famous spot. Everytime I go, half the shoppers are international visitors who had made a beeline for this place. Security guard and bag check at the front. Nice curated shoe selection (tons of Converse) that you won't see everywhere. Great selection of Comme De Garcon including the sweaters which are hard-to-find. Brick and mortar is not dead, LA!

Yelp
This place is a ripoff. We just went in the store to check out the sale. After finding a shirt and checked the sale rate and it was going to be $5. Woo Hoo, right? Take it to the register and it's 75% instead of the marked $5 sale price. This $29 vs. $5. I know. You're thinking it's not bad. For me, it's the principle more so than the price. The cashier says it's been a problem and they're trying to fix it but can't help where other customers left things. I explained that there were several of the same shirts and that it should be $5. My friend paid the asked price and we left. I couldn't let it go and went back and spoke with Michael, the GM. He said pretty much the same thing and then I asked him to show me where in that section there was a sign that said the aforementioned "Selected items up to 75%" was. As we walked over, he realized he was wrong and then told me he would take the shirt back as a return. I asked for the $5 price and he said that was not going to happen and told him this was a review I would publish. Isn't this false advertising? NEVER GOING BACK!

Yelp
Staff seems uninterested. fantastic selection of curated items holiday hours not reflected online that was disappointing. Please do better representing hours accurately online.

Javlia S.

Yelp
Extremely overpriced, employees were standoffish and rude. Kind of racist in an odd way, they labeled any ethnic clothing "folk" and the Chinese clothing specifically "mandarin"??? Terrible vibes, terrible music, really dusty. I actually did like 3 shirts there but I hated the vibes so much that I didn't want to buy them lol and also overpriced so there's that. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
I feel really bad for the manager of this store. She is so scared of the owners of American Rag and getting in trouble she said she could not accept my $90 return because it was 1 day past the return window. Which I might add is only 14 days. I bought two beanies on Valentines Day for my boyfriend and checked on the return policy as I was checking out because he is a very tall man and I wasn't sure they'd fit his head. The older woman who checked me out said I could return for a store credit which is lame in itself but whatever I live around the corner and have bought gifts here often over the years. Anyways because you're dying to know the hats didn't fit. They took teenie weenie beanie to a whole new level. So here I am the day after 14 days and the manager was not gracious or kind. In fact I am pretty sure she loved saying she couldn't accept my return. I was like I live in the neighborhood and She repeated the policy to me numerous times and kind of had the attitude of "Suck it I don't care you feel slighted by our policy" She also told me she would get into a lot of trouble with the owners for making this return. SOOO the question is who is worse the owners for making their employees afraid of them or the employees not able to speak with grace or kindness and idk just try to pretend. I get to her or anyone else what's $90 bucks but it's way better than two teenie weenie beanies that don't fit. And it's my $90 bucks that honestly would keep me buying things in their shop But I know they don't care, the air was thick with it.

Yelp
worst return policy, can't use their gift cards online, which you're forced to get when returning, they don't honor online price for the same item in store, service is extremely slow on top of all of this, and selection is ass. praying on their downfall, truly

Yelp
I was driving around the area looking for vintage athletic wear and this store caught my eye so I decided to check it out. Their athletic wear selection was very small. They did have a large selection of vintage clothings mostly trendy clothes and brands like Levi's, Ralph Lauren, dickies, and carhartt. Honestly I looked at some of the "vintage" clothes and they were overpriced for what they were. Most shirts were AT LEAST $30. They weren't even anything unique or special. You could find some of these things at goodwill or even JetRag and American Vintage nearby for a fraction of the price.

Christy L.

Yelp
FOR THEIR CHEAP BRANCH - BEWARE if you're any type of ethnic person shopping here because the girl working the store blatantly follows you everywhere and give you the worst attitude and face lol. Made it VERY apparent that she did not want us in the store and was reluctant to even greet us when we said hello first. She had a complete 180 of attitude and was SO happy to talk to the white couple who came in after us. Also the store just sells a lot of weird jim crow related props and sells "artwork" of maoist china photography to hang in your home lol awful place, awful workers, AND overpriced.
google avatar

Offensive And D.

Yelp
I spent 4K dollars and 3 weeks later came back to exchange a $400 bag I bought as a gift because it was made so badly: the girls working behind the counter simply kept repeating their policy of 14 days for a return for store credit. I say this is a rip off... one of the ost expensive stores in Los Angeles with horrible customer service. A bag that's never been used, and you can't give store credit? I am still so angry with the way I was treated, shooed out of the store basically... not all of us are so rich that 400 means nothing. I will never shop here again. For spoiled rich people. And the owners obviously don't care about their customers.

Yelp
Best men's store in LA IMO. These reviews are pretty dramatic. Never had an issue with attitudes from the staff here. Always been helpful. Whoever is their buyer(s), they have impeccable taste. Everything I ever buy here I always get compliments on.

Michael L.

Yelp
It is impossible to contact anyone (Mike Flynn) in the online department. If you call, they transfer you and no one picks up. If you email them, forget it. If you leave a message on their Internet site, forget it. The person answering the phone at the store said the Internet guy, Mike Flynn, doesn't typically look at emails that aren't on his "personal" store email account. Arrogance or plain stupidity, not sure which.

Marcus S.

Yelp
To be honest I felt stalked here as a shopper as a black male. Constantly asking me to take my clothes and looking at me out the corner of their eyes and checking in on me way too much ....way more than any other (non black) shopper there. I will never return here. You shouldn't be made to feel watched and bothered obsessively as you shop and I know it's a tactic to deter theft b/c I worked in retail. It was gross. I was approached 7 times in the span of 30 mins. Why?
google avatar

Babette X.

Yelp
Attitudes like this are exactly the reason why I hate coming to the west side. I went in to find a pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers and the girl working behind the counter had no idea what that was and acted like I was asking for something totally obscure. Hello, it's only like one of the most iconic staples of fashion, anyways she told me that she was going to go and look in the back and I see her just walking around aimlessly for about five minutes and then watched her walk into the washroom so I just turned around and walked out.

Yelp
This took over the old Golyester space in Los Angeles, which was a bit bittersweet coming here after remembering the previous occupant. Memories aside, I found this place after wanting a new pair of jeans, preferably Japanese selvage denim. (Paige had lost my business after their Transcend fabric continued to break down after 1-4 months of wear and gentle washing with air drying pants on a rack.) I recommend parking in the lot next to the shop, as you can get validation from inside the store. The store is split between their vintage shop and the denim bar - the former on the left and the latter on the right. Shoes are in the center and they sell a variety of brands, including Fiorentini + Baker. The denim bar is pretty much every denim lover's dream - tables, walls, and racks of denim in different washes, brands, styles, and sizes. You will see mainstream brands sold in Nordstrom's and some upscale ones that you've never heard of. Price points vary as well - quality denim can fetch a premium based on dyes, where the denim was made, where the jeans were made, etc. I tried on several pairs from Kato and a Canadian brand, as both touted Japanese selvage denim with the jeans being made ethically in the US and Canada respectively. I wish I could remember the name of the girl who helped me - she knew denim fits very well and could tell if something fit properly or if I needed to try another size. It was thanks to her that I went down from my size I wore in Paige because the Kato's run differently, due to a higher content of cotton versus elastic. (She mentioned if I did my Paige size, it would become too big once the jeans molded to my body after a couple of wears and washes.) I bought 2 pairs of Kato jeans that day and they had a discount because of the Thanksgiving weekend. No returns are accepted when they do a discount like that, but I knew I found the new staples for my closet. If you're looking denim heaven, I'd recommend this place. Also a good location to check out different cuts and brands if you're not having luck with the mainstream ones. Be prepared for prices to be higher than the mall - you are paying for the quality denim to last you for more wears and washes, often times made in better ethical conditions.

Johnny R.

Yelp
Yelp hours are wrong, drove 30 min to shop here, 6:20p gate is locked. Yelp reads "close at 7".

Jean R.

Yelp
The denim bar here was exactly what I needed today. Such a huge selection and plenty of friendly staff to help. Both Angela and Chase were amazing. Just the right amount of attentive and opinionated. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
This is a review for Sarah K. the manager, as I've seen she has responded to other reviews. I was in the shop the other day and purchased two pieces for close to $700. One being a delicate silk kimono. The sales staff was friendly and fine until I got to the cash/wrap to pay for my items. The woman who took my items to ring up was loudly open mouthed smacking her gum. There was no wrapping or treating my items with any concern or respect. She did not wrap in or even bother to fold my silk kimono, but unceremoniously shoved it in the bag all wrinkled like dirty laundry. And then threw the other times on top, ripping the bag. Then handed the mess to me. At Target they treat your purchases with more care. Sarah if you read this, I suggest you speak to whomever is at your counter. It looks very poorly on your store. After spending a nice hour shopping and spending time and money to pick out my purchases I left with a very bad experience.
google avatar

Carrie E.

Yelp
Very disappointed paid almost $300 for a pair of jeans right before the Covid shut down. Come to find out I needed to return them and of course the store was closed and or the hours, only for fashion professionals. I no longer can wear the pants and I have written and called and no response they are completely unwilling to help me.
google avatar

Alicia R.

Yelp
I was very offended by the lady who greeted me and told me I had to check my bag behind the desk before looking around. I had a yoga bag which I used as a purse for the day and had my valuable belongings. First of all, there are way better stores with more expensive things and they don't ask you to check your bag. I understand they must have had issues with shoplifting but you guys should Invest into other ways of security than insulting your high paying customers. This experience was disgusting and embarrassing. I will never shop here again and I will make sure my friends don't either. Ps. Everything you sell in your store is available online. The ONLY thing that separates you from your competitors is the experience someone has in your store. You will not last long if you don't change this.
google avatar

Jeffrey B.

Yelp
Bought a couple jeans here. Fantastic service and a severe attention to detail. IMHO the best place to buy jeans I'm Los Angeles. Fred Segal? #2. Ha!
google avatar

Miller R.

Yelp
This place is expensive as fuck! But mannn do they have amazing shit. Love American rag. I only come here on the first of the month ___ I always cash out and just throw what I want in the bag. Dope spot if you wanna look clean :)
google avatar

Holly A.

Yelp
Note to the three guys working men's denim today around 4:30. Maybe cut the convo about your upcoming "projects" and what after parties you're attending this weekend and give customer service a try. As brick and mortars go the way of the dinosaur, the only thing keeping you afloat is NOT treating your customers as a nuisance. Lame AF!
google avatar

Jordan W.

Yelp
Lots of great clothing both vintage and new! Some of the vintage pieces can be priced a bit high for what they are, but a lot of the new pieces are very in vogue and great quality. The staff are always friendly here too. Would definitely recommend stopping in and taking a look at their very vast selection when you're in the area!
google avatar

Shelley C.

Yelp
This place is the worst. CRAZY overpriced, hipster crap that you can find elsewhere. The staff is unfriendly and not knowledgable of their own items. For some reason the store is decently packed, and I never understand. One plain grey v neck T-shirt is $130. REALLY? Wow. They carry so many things that you can find in Urban Outfitters and stores like that. There is a tiny little parking area a block down but you need to buy something to get it validated for free parking. Otherwise they charge you $6. Don't shop here unless you want to get ripped off.
google avatar

Daph D.

Yelp
Inferior shopping experience. Sure they have a decent selection but they profile customers and even had their security guard follow us around without even a "how can I help you today." I've shopped and PURCHASED here many times and each time it's a new ridiculous rule- no photos whatsoever, bag checks, no drinks. what's next, no talking while you shop? I don't even get this treatment shopping in Rodeo! They clearly do not value you as a consumer. With millions of other choices including online shopping, I will not be coming back.
google avatar

Yelp
Awwwhh, definitely missing my American Rag Cie now that I'm up North :( This place is a goldmine for scores and while it definitely falls in the hit or miss category, my friends and I have cleaned up on designer duds here! Especially in the accessories department. We're talkin rad necklaces, belts and purses....seriously, my purse closet calls many of its members family because of this store. My advice, hit it once a month at least. They get new stuff all the time and the buyers have great eyes and trend spotting abilities and while it's no $5-$10 store, you will also find unique pieces that will get you attention and compliments. And who doesn't love that! ;)
google avatar

Randy B.

Yelp
Sorry "American Rag Cie". For years, I've had bad thoughts about you. But, no longer. True, while they have very expensive new items, there are also many reasonably-priced things too, and many value-priced vintage (used) items. The main message here: prices are varied and there are offerings for most any customer. They have plenty of clothes, shoes, jewelry, colognes -- new and used -- this is boutique shopping peeps! I came away with a very cool black-tee ($26), and new, all-black converse shoes ($48). A little investment like that, and I'll be stylin' enough to be Scarlett Johansson's next beau.

Yelp
I've dropped some cash in here 3 times in the last 4 months. This is the SECOND time they have left the f-ing security sensor on my clothing!!!! WTF?! The first time it was on a dress I was supposed to wear to a party that night, and I live a half hour away so I couldn't commute an hour just to get the damn thing removed. I got it taken off a week later when I was back in the neighborhood. That dress was an expensive little frock, and I still haven't had an occasion to wear it. Bummer. This time, it was some vintage Levi's with a broken button hole I have to fix myself (still the same price as the vintage in perfect condition OF COURSE). Luckily I'm a seamstress and have the means to fix them, because they're great jeans. Lastly, I don't really mind checking my bag because it's common protocol in LA boutiques and I trust the employees to keep it safe. If I were a thief I'm sure I'd get away with murder here since sensors don't sound any type of alarm because I keep going home with them! I also have never been followed, probably because they're always short staffed. When someone finally does have time to help, they're nice enough. However, today was the first time I was told I could only have TWO garments in the dressing room at once. I only had 5, seriously come on. This was extremely annoying because I had two outfits I wanted to try on....once I tried one on I had to get dressed back in my regular clothes, open the stupid door, switch to outfit number two, take my clothes back off, try on outfit. I got frustrated and didn't bother trying on the 5th item and did not keep looking for more stuff because I didn't want to deal with it! You could have sold me at least $100 more items but the dressing room situation made me want to stop shopping and pay for the one thing I found. And that one thing has a freakin' sensor on it still!!!!! Jesus lord Christ people! I'll conclude this with a positive: the nice young fellow with short brownish hair who works in the shoe area (he was here today at 2pm 2/4) is awesome. He is very helpful, knowledgeable and not all "sales guy-ish" when he approaches customers. He gives thoughtful, honest opinions and makes excellent suggestions. I think I'll only come back to this store for shoes only, since I won't have the sensor issue with those! I like you guys, American Rag. But you left sensors on my sh*t two of three visits. You also make trying on clothing even less fun than the worst goodwill I've ever been in. Please rethink that policy and get more staff coverage to keep track of items back there. As a retail veteran myself, I'll tell you what keeps theft to a minimum: providing stellar customer service. When you're helping the crap out of people, you know what they're up to.

Yelp
I'm shocked. I went in to shop and needed to use the restroom. They told me to get a token at the cage. The guy at the cafe told me I need to buy something first. I walked out and will never go back.

Yelp
This store would not let me exchange a t shirt that was the wrong size- I do not think I will be back here. They asked me all these questions told me to go pick out another shirt then told me it's against their return policy- wasted time. I will go next door to stussy or urban outfitters next time before I go back here when I need some new t shirts

Yelp
Very hard to contact due to my order online problem they keep transfer the line but no one answer it .

Yelp
This is the prime example of the main distinction between Los Angeles style and other West Coast cities. Lets start with the store, pretty large, packed, kind of like an authentic Urban Outfitters. Without getting into the demin debate which would take both of us all morning, lets just say it's about quality and cut. The main part of the store is split mens and womens with shoes and accessories playing peacekeeper. They sell new and used gear, good quality used gear though, so don't' think of it quite like other places. The range of good is from $20 shirts of $2,000 leather jackets and due to the quality of their demin you'd looking at $100-$200 for most pairs. I found their used items to be a mish mosh of unappealing items used to slap together outfits. Lacking the combination of unique and well cut and quality, "vintage" doesn't always mean good or better. I rarely pick up anything from that part of the store, almost exclusively get denim here. Apparently for those of us who come north they have a 2nd location at Fashion Island which I'll probably be checking out from now on. They are generally staffed well, but I wouldn't say friendly in any regard. Helpful in a curt sense, but company return policy is to pretty much laugh in your face. Liken to a Barney's Co-Op. Shoe selection is eclectic from some super cheap quality inexpensive models sitting right next to handmade leathers from Portugal, which to me also a little overpriced. This place is not for everyone as they don't quite cater to everyone and it's not necessarily a 1 stop shop.

Yelp
I've been going here since I was in high school (graduated in 1989). Then, I moved 2 blocks away for grad school and became a regular customer (graduated 2003). I still go here often and love the store--even if it's just to brows. They have really great vintage--vintage that rotates and is premium. It does cost a bit more but they never keep the same stuff around, have all sizes, and basically take their cues from runway trends. So if Gucci is going to do pajama tops with a vintage appeal, you will get real vintage pajama tops. If you hate the prices, at the end of the season, everything is 50% off. If you are a European Tourist...this is the place to go...you will get everything very easily and it will feel cheaper than London or Paris! The retail side is great...used to be better. It's slid a bit downhill with the recession--with more accessible brands that have broad appeal. But I remember during the Clinton era when they really had very nice, edgey challenging stuff at a much higher price point. The denim shop is just super-crazy-good. And the home shop is stupid nice--really great gift stuff. I just bought a house in the neighborhood and I am always delighted to get a gift from their home store. I even like that little cafe. And this is often a place I'll meet friends from the Southland who are swooping into town. You can get a drink, get your retail fix, and get a reasonably priced lunch. Over all, I'd still say that American Rag is great for buying edgey stuff that feels a bit quirky. I just bought two pairs of tennis shoes--400 dollar Diadoras, 90 dollar Pumas--and you will not see too many other people wearing what I've been wearing. I really only buy my shoes either from Fred Segal and American Rag...so this is a long overdue review I only thought of now that I'm safely ensconced at home with my purchases!

Yelp
If you hate the fact that most clothing stores are soulless mass mongering enterprises, you will love American Rag. There simply aren't many stores that are as well curated & offer as many quality items as this unique store. Every item here seems to be hand picked with very good taste. Whatever style you like you can find a piece of it here. Overall, I find the vibe to be very classic American with a vintage feel. I love the high ceilings and the classic displays. Although there are a lot of merchandise in the store, the space never feels too cluttered. The employees here all have excellent taste and is willing to help without ever being intrusive. Great shoes and sneaker section that is in the middle of the store but yet feels apart from everything else. Love their accessories cases where you can find very personal and cool trinkets. You can find everything from wallets, to chains, to sunglasses here. On top of everything, American Rag features an awesome vintage section where you can find many one of a kind jackets, hats, vests, shirts, etc. American Rag is simply your one stop shop for parties and events. They even offer alterations and a sick selection of jeans next door. You can be transformed from head to toe or you can develop your personal style. I can go on raving about this place but I'd rather let my 5-star rating do the rest of the talking.

Yelp
This store is one of the OGs.... Always ahead of the game. I've been coming to the block for decades and American Rag has withstood and even perpetuated a lot of the trends over the years. It's not for everybody. Hell, some of the pricier items, arent for me either. I'm just saying. American Rag is where I buy my nicer denim. I pretty much stick with Levi's and they have plenty to choose from with their Levi's Made & Crafted selection. I've also bought 2 different washes in the Levi's Hesher jeans. They are some of my favorites to wear... Now I dont always buy from American Rag as their prices can sometimes be a bit high. I tend to score and get lucky & find things I really like on sale. Just last week I finally took the plunge and bought a pair of Levi's 501 selvedge denim that I've had my eye on for about a year now. Their other room (not the denim side) had 50% off signs all over the place. No signs of that sort in the denim section but I figured if I didnt buy it now, I'll regret it if I come back and my size is gone. They werent too expensive compared to the other kinds of denim they have in stock... but still. So I tried them on and got great customer service from a tall guy that gave me a lot of information on denim washes and care. I really appreciated that cause I do consider them the experts and value the info they pass on to me. I was sold. The raw indigo color was dope and I brought them up to the register. When the cashier told me the total I had to do a double take. I was like how much?? She said $26.75! Turns out the $98 denim I was stressing over was 75% off. Yuss!!! Thought that was awesome. The Made & Crafted denim I've bought there was more than twice the regular price of this pair and to this day I have not seen them on sale. Score! I also like the other brands that American Rag has carried over the years like Stussy before it got played out. And yes, they had Stussy gear that the actual Stussy store up the block did not carry. I also have gotten some Staple brand button-ups. They were carrying SSUR with the whole Comme des FUCKDOWN trend was full-scale. Even their vintage section is on-point. I used to find some really nice shirts in that section. And yes, it's a lot more expensive than Jet Rag or Aardvarks but they are really selective with what they carry. The quality shows. My coworker got a really nice vintage Gucci purse. It was in the display case and was in great condition for how old it was. She was pretty damn happy about that purchase... Footwear selection is also always good. I remember when they carried Clarks Wallabees when others didnt know what was up with those classics. They are always evolving.... I like that. Their buyers know what they're doing. I might not buy or be into everything they sell but I will always peep what they have every now and again cause I might find something I have to have. Customer service for me has always ranged from courteous to super cool. I have no complaints whatsoever. The security guard that worked there for years would recognize me cause I've been there so many times. Ha! Check your bags at the door. Validated parking next door with a minimum value purchase. $50?? Don't quote me. American Rag... Triple OG.

Yelp
First time in the store in over 10 years. I was looking for an old school Pendleton wool button up for a Christmas gift. No one carries these anymore, and low and behold American Rag had 5 of them. What a find!!! The sales person was super friendly and searched 3 racks with me to find them as they were scattered in the 3 racks, he was super helpful. I bought it a very reasonable price as well. A section of the store is second hand clothes in amazingly good condition, and the rest is new. they have 2 other stores they are connected to as well, one has a little cafe that i will be going back to. Super easy parking in the attached parking lot to the store.

Yelp
Nice store. Some things overpriced some things not. Store clerk behind cash register with braids and red adidas shirt not so nice. A tiny bit harassment that never really stopped while at cash register. Afterwords nearly returned my bundle of purchased items out of moral ethic. 11/24/2017

Yelp
Kids boutique ! Is so good! The clothes are as cute as the kids who will wear them! Great selection of wildly hip children's denim! Be sure you ask for Mark! When he first told me about the store I hadn't grasped the levels of awesome this place was until I walked in. And awesome is without question ... an understatement! I mean lets just leave this here for you demon lovers... Denim Bar and my personal favorite vintage 501 Levi's! My cousin Bam and I share this same obsession, as we do both dig that 80's denim so! Yes, I do have my obsessions! Meow! And there is not a pair of jeans that fits better or feels better than 80's 501 button fly jeans... A must stop in for out of towners! LA makes Vintage look good! Meow! And new designers too being featured all the time. It's a fashionista's fantasy alive under one roof.
