This took over the old Golyester space in Los Angeles, which was a bit bittersweet coming here after remembering the previous occupant. Memories aside, I found this place after wanting a new pair of jeans, preferably Japanese selvage denim. (Paige had lost my business after their Transcend fabric continued to break down after 1-4 months of wear and gentle washing with air drying pants on a rack.)
I recommend parking in the lot next to the shop, as you can get validation from inside the store.
The store is split between their vintage shop and the denim bar - the former on the left and the latter on the right. Shoes are in the center and they sell a variety of brands, including Fiorentini + Baker. The denim bar is pretty much every denim lover's dream - tables, walls, and racks of denim in different washes, brands, styles, and sizes. You will see mainstream brands sold in Nordstrom's and some upscale ones that you've never heard of. Price points vary as well - quality denim can fetch a premium based on dyes, where the denim was made, where the jeans were made, etc.
I tried on several pairs from Kato and a Canadian brand, as both touted Japanese selvage denim with the jeans being made ethically in the US and Canada respectively. I wish I could remember the name of the girl who helped me - she knew denim fits very well and could tell if something fit properly or if I needed to try another size. It was thanks to her that I went down from my size I wore in Paige because the Kato's run differently, due to a higher content of cotton versus elastic. (She mentioned if I did my Paige size, it would become too big once the jeans molded to my body after a couple of wears and washes.)
I bought 2 pairs of Kato jeans that day and they had a discount because of the Thanksgiving weekend. No returns are accepted when they do a discount like that, but I knew I found the new staples for my closet.
If you're looking denim heaven, I'd recommend this place. Also a good location to check out different cuts and brands if you're not having luck with the mainstream ones. Be prepared for prices to be higher than the mall - you are paying for the quality denim to last you for more wears and washes, often times made in better ethical conditions.
