Legendary Mission Bar Amnesia Is Closing - Eater SF

"Mission Local reports that Amnesia, a Valencia Street bar that since 2000 has been home to a host of live music acts and an extensive craft beer list, will close "indefinitely starting in early March." The news was echoed by an Amnesia employee who, when contacted by Eater SF, said of the closure "yes, sad to say." Former owner Shawn Magee sold Amnesia to City Beer Store owners (and Bay Area “power couple”) Craig and Beth Wathen in 2015, saying at the time that "AMNESIA IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE. It is being passed into capable hands, people who I believe will try their best to keep the integrity of this place." It will reportedly "close its doors for a few months for a 'revamp,' but may not use the entertainment license in the future." - Eve Batey

Amnesia Review - Mission - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The best reason to come to Amnesia is the live music happening every night, except Tuesdays when there’s stand-up comedy. And because great music or questionable comedy are both better with drinks, Amnesia has a solid selection of craft beers to choose from. It’s a little divey, and sometimes there’s a cover at the door, but it’s worth it." - Will Kamensky

Delicious house beers and a charmingly macabre decor. We were told it was a jazz night but what we got was decidedly bluegrass (not our twist at ALL). Regardless, the stage, sound, and feel of the place were all dope af.

Small but cozy place. Wednesday night Jazz was amazing. The singer was Nora Jones-esque and she knocked it out of the park. Good happy hour too.

It's a cozy venue and I've enjoyed the live music there. The bar tenders are friendly and efficient. Seems to be a varied crowd depending on the night.

I love it here! There's music every night, including a lot of free shows (bluegrass on Mondays, jazz on Wednesdays) and cheap ones as well. Given how many bands they put on here, I'm impressed to say I've never seriously disliked a band I've seen here. I love that they do month-long residencies for artists so they can refine their work. It's not a full bar, so they only have beer, wine, and soju cocktails. But the beer selection is pretty good.

One of the best sounding, quaint music venues in San Francisco. Lot's of great improvements have been done to a classic place to see live music (I've been coming here for over 15 years). Always a quality act on stage, too, not a bad night to be there. Bartender was very friendly and the beer selection is one of the best.

Awesome intimate venue with interesting acts. Bluegrass Mondays is a favorite, but just about any night there's an interesting lineup of local bands with either no cover or cheap covers. Good beer selection and funky vibe...great pace to catch a show.

Gotta love the live music and am there frequently for jazz and craft beer. Excellent selection of beer and fun upscale dive bar-ish decor. Also if you dance there is a contingent that comes to dance on the very tiny dance floor for the Wednesday evening live music.

No cover on Wednesday night. 1 star. Slow service. Minus one star. Barkeep was chatting behind the bar with a friend for about ten minutes while two or more customers were waiting. Gaucho, the swing band, was excellent. Mellow vibe. Great beer selection. The Wit was good and the nitro Stout also.
