Ok so I’ve been coming here for a few years and a I rarely leave reviews but this place deserves one. I’m pretty ok with my wine knowledge. I know the basics. My dad was a collector so I can kinda work my way around a wine list. Typically wine stores on the UWS (with some exceptions) have a basic selection of wine you can find anywhere and the a handful of outrageously overpriced bottles. Amsterdam wine is different. The two partners (Sabrina and the tall guy) really love and understand wine. They have a great selection of the things you know to expect. But even more, they have a wild selection of just the craziest and most interesting wines. I got a Sicilian wine that was 85% Nero d’avola and 15% whatever the hell the ancient Greek, unnamed vines growing in the winemaker’s land thrown into the mix. I’ve gotten Hungarian skin contact wines from grapes I’ve never heard of. The partners truly love wine and make sure to steer me into the fun and interesting bottles. The ones that you just want to tell your friends about and save for get togethers. The wines are wonderful and absolutely reasonably priced. I’m so happy I live near this place but it’s honestly worth a trip even if you don’t live on the UWS. If you live on the UWS you have no excuse not to stop by

I absolutely love this place. I recently moved to NYC, and the staff here have got to be the friendliest people in the city! The sign outside says to come in and ask them about wine because they love to talk about it. And they aren't kidding! Scott and Michelle are so incredibly friendly and helpful. Scott makes the best recommendations! He seriously knocks it out of the park every time. The wine he recommended last time was a hit with my friends- one of whom rarely even drinks wine! I also really enjoy their emails. You can tell they take pride in their work and enjoy being there. I'm so glad I live nearby. Can't recommend this place enough!

I always like visiting this small, cozy spot with geographically very diverse wines, which seem to be from smaller, specialized producers. The staff is very helpful and friendly. They are well versed on every product in their store, including the diverse distillates. Great spot!

Amsterdam Wine Company is an exceptionally professional, friendly, personal, generous business. They carry my favorite orange wine. I placed an order for shipping to California. I asked for recommendations of similar orange wines. Their recommendations were right on. Their prices are fair. Their delivery options are super convenient. They are not trying to get as much money out of you as they can. A very honest, trustworthy company. I can’t wait to visit your store the next time I am in NYC! In the meantime, I will be placing more online orders! Thank you so much for going above and beyond.

I’ve recently moved from NorCal, and I’ve found it’s slightly challenging to find a place where wine is stored properly. I have found at most places there’s a 50/50 chance the wine is going to have turned from not being stored right. I come to Amsterdam Wine Co. weekly, and I have bought everything from Cab to champagne. I have never had a bottles that was not stored properly. It’s always a good sign when you walk into a wine store and you immediately feel the chill in the air. Plus they have a temperature controlled wine section, and great global and domestic wine selections. Everyone I have spoken to here is extremely knowledgeable about wine, and they are a joy to be around. This is the only place I buy wine from anymore, because quality control matters when it comes to wine.

Great wine and liquor store! Michelle helped me pick out a gift for a friend and made really thoughtful suggestions. She even helped me gift wrap the bottles. I highly recommend this store especially for their women owned and organic practicing selection!

Love coming here. Super convenient and everyone is always so nice and willing to help me find a wine. Very fair prices and great selection. 100% of the bottles I’ve purchased here are really enjoyable. Just picked up another great wine from Kaare “Corey” that might be my favorite wine ever…? So glad this is in the neighborhood

Recently moved to UWS and the staff is always so welcoming and very knowledgeable. They offer frequent tastings and their selection of wine is very broad.

This small store packs a punch. Well utilized floor space with ample selection. The employees are helpful, yet not overbearing. Giving great selections based on your preference and price range. Will visit again, wish I had a shop like this local to me.

I've been here a handful of times over the past few years, and I've never not regretted it. The wine is middling - good selections are overpriced, and reasonably priced bottles are a good 3rd too expensive for what they are. For $18-25, I think you should be able to get an interesting, exciting bottle of wine. On top of that, even when I've tried to make polite small talk the employees are rude. ‍ Acker is just down the street, would recommend.

Literally the nicest humans ever! Great wine selection, fast pickup times and are super, super nice to my dog. My favorite wine shop on the uws by far!

We have been coming by the shop now and again for the last year or so. The selection is really interesting, but the real stars are the employees. They know their wine, love their wine, and have a genuine interest in what you like, what you are looking for, and always offer a very interesting alternative. 3x now we have walked out with a staff suggestion that completely improved the quality of our wine life. Yesterday we walked in looking for one of our usual wines, a young fruit forward italian red, and walked out with a Sicilian orange wine that blew our expectations out of the water. Exactly the experience you hope for.

On a search for Orange Wine. I know, we had never heard of it either. Our Sarah has been thoroughly researching and learning about wine. She hasn't been able to find a bottle. We walked in and asked the lovely proprietor if he has any and he pointed out his "Orange Wine Shelf." WOW.... We wanted to surprise Sarah, so we asked which he'd recommend. He was gracious to give a short explanation and and I loved that he picked out a few for us to try. You could tell how much he loves wine and he didn't pick the expensive bottles for our first try. At the desk, I noticed the largest bottle of Silver Oak I have ever seen. It comes in nice wood presentation box. He offered to deliver it if we'd like it. Will save something for next time. He has everything you could ever imagine for a wine lover. Oh, the Orange Wine....I thought it would taste like sweet oranges. It turns out its pretty much like white wine. Will be back for a sweet red wine...

Love this little wine shop. Its smaller size is a plus, it makes the place easier to absorb and less intimidating than a giant wine shop. They stock good stuff and they'll rarely steer you wrong. Aside from a regular selection, they set aside a nice small selection of wines under $15. They also have some good quality kosher wines, and fancy liquors. Thumbs up.

Wow, this place is such a gem! This shop has a wonderful and wide selection of all your wine and spirit needs. And the customer service cannot be beat, the staff is so friendly and super helpful in finding exactly what you're looking for. Absolutely love it here and highly recommend!!

TL;DR: Great selection, especially for its size, and the employees are awesome. In a neighborhood rather annoyingly full of wine stores, Amsterdam is a step above the rest, especially given its modest footprint. (67 Wines is the only shop that compares, and is excellent, but this can be chocked up to the purchase power that a large and well-established shop has.) They certainly have everyone beat in selection-per-sq-foot and average employee expertise. I have a rather odd taste in wines and the employees have never led me astray. I also drink lots of cheap wine and I never get judged for it, in fact Amsterdam seems proud of its fantastic value selections. "What are you eating with it?" is thankfully *not* the first question I am asked when looking, which I think reflects their serious-yet-informal approach. Their spirits collection, while small, is quite good, as is their selection of wines from 'frontier' markets like Georgia and Slovenia, their natural wines, fortified wines, and amari. Bonus: Something didn't look right on a receipt of mine recently, and after calling them we realized they had charged me twice for a bottle of bubbly. Not great, but definitely also my fault for not catching it at the time. They almost immediately remembered me and the wines I had purchased, and in a matter of seconds had verified my purchase in their system. They rectified the mistake by issuing me a CC refund and called me back to confirm, with unnecessary but appreciated apologies for the inconvenience... All in all, a customer service A+ because their employees were empowered to fix mistakes, and did so quickly, seamlessly, and with excellent attitude.

I'm pretty sure the UWS already has the most wine shops per capita of any neighborhood in the free world, but this is still a very welcome addition, as it specializes in small-batch and artisanal bottles that will intrigue even the most seasoned lush. I've been pretty impressed with the $15-$20 wines we've tried so far, and we've also picked up a few nice bottles of spirits from little-known distilleries. To the extent this store is offering spirits found elsewhere, the prices are usually about 10% higher, so that costs 'em a star, but otherwise pretty much perfect.

As others have said here - really rude staff. It takes a special skill to make your only customer in the store, who hasn't asked for your help with anything, feel like they're bothering you for having the audicty to... you know, buy somthing. There are almost as many wine stores in this area as their are nail salons, use your freedom of choice and go somewhere else.

Nice wine shop on the upper west side near Trader Joe's. Its a bustling area and this place is a nice find. Great selection and very knowlegable associates who have answers based on what you're having for dinner and what to recommend. If you're on a budget, there is a lot to chose from in the $12 - 18 range. Prices are aligned with other wine shops in the city and I will be returning here. A great spot for sure.

They have a great selection of wine for under $25. I have to mention that I went in there today and the guy working the register was so unfriendly that I actually felt uncomfortable!

It's definitely a little bit on the pricey side but that is what happens when you are in the upper West side around 71st St.

Pretty disappointed in the customer service here. I used to go in about weekly and the employees used to be very friendly, jump up to help me, actually listen to what I had to say and give me quick, spot on recommendations, run off to get me a chilled bottle, and welcome me into the wine tasting if it was going on. They used to genuinely be the great, cute, neighborhood spot they claim to be. For the last maybe 5+ times I've gone, the employees just sit there talking to each other and don't help besides a lazy hello. I'm pretty upset because I used to love this place. I would stop going here except they're so conveniently located off the 1,2,3. This place needs to either get back to helping customers or stop touting themselves as friendly, knowledgeable upper west side spot.

Cute little wine shop on the UWS! Since the trader joes across the street doesnt have a wine store (and many frequent TJ's customers like myself want to get wine at the same time as our groceries), this place is in an ideal location. The staff is very knowledgable about their wines and willing to find something in your price range. I don't like to spend more than $20 on a bottle, and have found the BEST rieslings and pinot grigios under $20 here

Amsterdam Wine Co is my favorite new wine store! Located steps from Trader Joe's near the 72nd street subway station (#1,2,3 lines), Amsterdam Wine Co is a gem of a store. You'll have no trouble finding a great bottle of wine for under 20$ at this store. The selection is highly curated -- they select out the best wines for you so you don't have to do the work. Don't underestimate this place. It's a small store but t's packed with great wines from all over the world. I've bought several wines from them. The 2015 Petillant White Frizzante wine from Spain is a great value & priced under 20$. It's very effervescent, crisp & refreshing with grapefruit/ citrus notes. It's a nice change from Champagne or Prosecco. I like wine stores that offer good values & high quality. There are some very interesting wines to be found here & the free Friday night tastings are a great way to end the week! They also offer a 10% discount if you purchase a case of wine.

Great service and selection. I used Amsterdam to get gifts for all the folks in my office. They wrapped and put a note on each bottle and delivered the cases to my office. The wine was a hit, the presentation was first class and it couldn't have been simpler. Many thanks to Steve and the great folks there for helping me out.

So many different great wines and very organized! I went in after shopping at the Trader Joe's around the corner, and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that they even carry The Oyster Wine, which is my absolute favorite!!!!

Amsterdam Wines is a beautiful "boutique" wine & liquor store . Though not nearly as large as the other stores in the neighborhood, they have definitely impressed me with the quality of their products, the generosity and respect and knowledge of their staff, and their overall treatment of me and every other customer. They stay open later than the other stores, which is a huge convenience if you want to buy something after 9:00pm, have tastings that are later so that someone like me who doesn't have a 9-5 job can attend, and they valued me enough to put me in their computer and list the wines I liked from the tastings and have bought, so that I wouldn't have to "remember" them. They always have a nice little price card in front of the bottles they are sampling. Talk about a class act! I have, so far, enjoyed and been extremely happy with their tastings,the wine that I have bought, their courtesy, their friendliness, professionalism and knowledge. And, they always greet me with a smile.

I'm upset I didn't turn around & walk right out!!!! We walked in and there were 2 guys at the desk carrying on a conversation b/w them & not once did they acknowledge us. A simple "hello, how are you this evening?" goes a long way. While we were perusing the selection not once was help offered. Also, a simple "are you looking for anything specific?" Or even " let me know if you guys need any assistance." goes a long way! None of that, not an acknowledgement that we were in their store, not a single word spoken until we checked out. After the transaction was complete, not a thank you, have a good night, nope we got "you're all set" & that was that. There are plenty of other wine shops in the same neighborhood, please don't waste your $ or time at this one

Good selection, knowledgeable and friendly crew, when busy, an 'if you ask for help you get help' type of place (when it's not too busy, you're often approached and offered guidance). I try to visit whenever in the area.

I am a fan of this store. I appreciate the selection and most of all its customer service. The staff are knowledgeable of its wines AND they are incredibly approachable.

If you want a neighborhood store, Amsterdam Wine Co. offers a great choice. A variety of wines and the staff always offers to help. Kind staff that is sincere and not pushy. Many interesting options including wines from Croatia, Georgia (from the Caucus region--not the southern part of the US), Hungary and other places in addition to the more typical wine places such as France, California, Spain, etc. Wine tastings on certain days of the week. God choice.

Great independently owned wine shop - highly knowledgable staff and exceptional selection. I really like that they carry relatively reasonable wines from small boutique wineries. A must try if you are looking for a great bottle without the pretension.

Great little wine shop. Went in there looking for liquor, which they only have a small selection of, specifically I was looking for peppermint schnapps which they did not have, but I was going to buy Tito's and the man behind the counter suggested I try another vodka which was also made with potato and half the price. I appreciate when a sales person doesn't try to push you to buy something for the price. It's more of a wine shop and they actually had a tasting and I was able to try a sweet Pino Grigio which was pretty good. I'd recommend this place if you're interested in wine, they staff seems very knowledgable and the prices were fair.

I love this shop! Thank you for opening on the UWS. I feel so overwhelmed in most wine shops that I buy the same bottle over and over again. But Amsterdam has a very friendly and knowledgable staff that I can explore different bottles. They seem to understand what I want for the night and give me the perfect choice.
