An absolutely stunning hotel! The historic charm mixed with modern elegance makes for a fantastic stay. The staff is top-notch, great experience with Ally at the front desk. The views are incredible, and the location is unbeatable..heart of beautiful Grand Rapids beside the Grand River!!

This hotel does the absolute bare minimum to try and justify the price. I've stayed at the Amway Grand in Grand Rapids twice now, and both experiences were equally disappointing. The rooms are not nice, the bathrooms are actually pretty bad, and the walls are so thin that you can hear every word spoken in adjacent rooms and every sound in the hallway. On my last stay, I was awakened at 6 AM by a screaming family Sunday morning and could hear someone playing piano in another room. 4 star hotels usually do some kind sound proofing, Amway does zero. Despite the numerous dining options, getting basic things like food and water is incredibly difficult. It took me over 30 minutes just to get a bottle of water because I had to traverse the entire hotel and wait in a long line at Starbucks. Late-night food options are nonexistent, forcing me to wait hours for a delivery that never came. For a hotel priced at $400 a night, these issues are unacceptable. Additionally, the hotel’s claim of being a historic hotel is highly misleading. It’s a small historic building with a giant modern hotel attached, and there’s nothing historic about the rooms, the bathrooms, or the overall experience. I’ve tried staying in the historic side both times, even booked a suite once, but they never let me. It’s as if they’re advertising something that doesn’t exist.

We stayed here for the weekend for our daughter's vocal competition. I'll start with the positives. The people were helpful and very friendly. Housekeeping, bell hops, desk attendants, etc. The hotel itself is in a very nice location, with plenty of restaurants and other activities within walking distance. It is a classic hotel, with beautiful woodwork, cascading arched ceilings, brass buttoned elevators and crystal chandeliers. Very cool. It seemed to be pretty clean. It also has a very nice pool, and several very nice restaurants (and Starbucks). So...now the negatives. The website did not make clear that our room had a refrigerator. We discovered it by accident, as it was hidden within the dresser upon which the TV stood. It also didn't make clear that the room had a coffee maker. We like to bring some food/coffee/snacks to make our stay more manageable. See below for more on this. But the 4 biggest issues: No microwave. I know that they can cause issues by triggering smoke alarms (when people just do stupid things with them), but we love being able to warm food in our room. The electrical receptacles were very loose (a common issue in hotels due to high use). It is a nuisance trying to get them to work with your devices. But it is also an arcing/fire hazard. I can't stress this enough. Arcing causes intense heat, heat further weakens the metal. This can cause the metal to break within the receptacle-with potentially nasty consequences. These should be replaced regularly. Parking in their structure was expensive. Convenient, yes, but pricey. Lastly, the shower started hot and within a minute started bouncing between lukewarm and cool. This was during the evening, mid afternoon and early morning, so it probably wasn't solely due to demand. This is a first for me, as most hotels have pretty good showers. Though we enjoyed a discount rate for being part of an event, the normal prices are pretty steep, especially considering the aforementioned issues.

The front desk is very nice and our valet was funny and very personable. Hotel is bustling and beautiful. Great restaurants to choose from. However, we were disappointed with the room, mainly the bed. The sheets are aweful. They are rough and scratchy and stiff, feels like they used a ton of starch. The pillows are extremely hard and overstuffed. Usually these nice hotels give two options for pillow types on the bed. My skin hurts and my face is so red from how rough the sheets were. I was so excited for a night away and a great night's rest but couldn't get to sleep due to how uncomfortable the bed was.

The hotel is very beautiful and I love the historical style. The room was okay, I appreciate the layout. It was a little annoying not having a microwave though, we also had several occasions where it seemed to take an excessive amount of time for hot water but that’s not a huge deal. The bed was pretty hard and the sheets were scratchy not soft. It really didn’t feel like we were offered that great of service though. The kicker for me is parking. It is absurd to me that for an expensive hotel room you have to pay an additional $41 per night just to park there, when the ramp itself is a walk away, but several times the ramp was full so my pregnant wife and I had to walk from the neighboring hotels ramp. And then get a surprise charge for over $100??? Just blows my mind.

The room was poorly designed so if you wanted privacy when changing you were in a tiny bathroom with a toilet /tub with nowhere to place your clothing and a pocket door that didn't completely close. There was more room to change in the vanity area but there was no door so no privacy from the bedroom. We registered as two guests with two queen beds but only one blanket in the closet that was needed because there was almost nonexistent filling in the duvet. One of the queen beds was so slanted that if you started off in the middle of the bed and turned on your side you would roll off into the nightstand. Funny, not funny. We heard running and yelling up and down the hallway well into the night. The front desk staff was friendly and took $50 off our bill. I don't recall ever leaving a hotel review but our experience was so disappointing. I picked this hotel based on a previous stay years ago and thought it was just the place to celebrate a very special occasion. I was embarrassed bringing my guest here.

Excellent location for our conference. Love what Hilton has done with all the rooms and facilities. I’ve been attending meetings here since 2011 and the rooms were in dire need of improvements. Sleek, comfortable and roomy with a classic updated style of living while away.

Read the other review. Very nice hotel but very poor accommodation. Almost all vending machines on each floor are not operating. Half of the ice machines are not operating. No microwaves or fridge in the room. I normally wouldn't rate 1 star for these issues, but these are clearly known issues without getting fixed, just read the other reviews for months now. 42$ for self parking... this is more than downtown in Dallas, Houston, Philli, KCK, Chicago, Detroit, Salt Lake, St Louis

Yelp
I went to my husband's company Christmas party at the Amway Grand Plaza and I just cannot say enough about this place. I was a young girl the first time I saw this place. My grandma drove into the valet area looking for directions and 4 bell boys came out, opened our doors, and said "welcome to the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel." I just woke from a car snooze and thought I must be dreaming for real. For a poor foster kid I never imagined that I could be like Kevin McAlester! I've dreamt of staying here ever since and worked hard to get where I am today but I still can't find the ability to spend that kind of money to indulge in something like this. Imagine my excitement when I discovered my husband's employer was covering the cost of valet, a room for the night, and a full on Christmas PARTY!! If you're into technology, security, electronics, office work, and more check out Convergint Technologies! I've never seen an employer do all of this for their people. If I wasn't a nurse manger I'd be right on this bandwagon. Taking notes though. Anyway the Amway Grand was EVERYTHING I had ever imagined. It is the height of elegance and class. I only wished for a better place for breakfast but there is the Morning Bell or Anna's House nearby. Cleanliness, service, ambiance, food catering quality, freshness, taste were all part of the package!! You will feel like royalty at the Amway Grand!! 100% worth it! Of course, I don't have any idea what the bill was. FIVE STARS all day!!

Yelp
My wife and I had only heard her things about amway. We were excited to stay there for multiple nights. We upgraded to the river front view room! Our first night was great. Our second night there was extremely loud music playing and thumping on the walls until about 1:30 in the morning (basically a bust for the second night). We shared this information with the front desk upon checkout and they mentioned that others had heard the noise as well. They offered us some points for our inconvenience. After doing some checking into what the actual value of the points is, I see that it's only worth about $12. I emailed the hotel and did not get a response so I'm posting here.

Yelp
Spacious room but odd layout. Bathroom has shower n toilet but no sink. Powder room has the sink. The towel rack is IN the shower. Desk personal very friendly Parking with valet almost 80.00 Downtown is ALIVE!!

Yelp
The Amway Grand is an amazing place to go and see. It's always clean. They're decorations are amazing. Their staff is super friendly. This hotel has Six different restaurants, a hidden speak easy, and one of those restaurants is actually on top of the building with a spectacular view. They have a gift shop, a store to buy wine, a place to take beautiful pictures with your family and right now (December) you can actually come and get your picture with Santa and send a letter to the North pole. This is a great place to visit and if you looking for a place to stay. We only did a day trip. There is a parking garage connected to it and lots of other garages in the event that one is full. They are only a couple blocks away that you can walk to quickly. It's located in the center of downtown so it's close to Rosa Park for ice skating, close to a bunch of bars, and shopping to walk to safely. The building is big and beautiful. The architecture is stunning. Smells good. Well lit is handicap accessible. Huge ballrooms to rent out. Cannot say enough good about Amway Grand.

Yelp
I recently traveled to Grand Rapids for a work conference, and this was the host hotel. I actually enjoyed it. I had a great view - 24th floor with a nice view of the city/water. It had less "random lights" in the room than other hotels, the provided toiletries were actually really nice, and the bed and pillows were reasonably comfortable. There was also a mini-fridge which I LOVE because I hate traveling and leaving food behind, when I can potentially snack on it later. I used the print function in the business center and it was easy breezy and cheap. Our conference hotel rate was also quite reasonable, and the break-out meeting rooms were comfortable and functional. On the less great side, downtown hotels are always expensive - and this was no exception. Food and bar prices were higher end for lower quality. AND, this was the BIG problem for me. They stop serving food/drinks at like 10-11 p.m. And even the food being offered from like 9-11 p.m. was limited in the choices, which forces you to order in or leave the hotel in the middle of the night. Maybe this isn't an issue for others, but as a single mom, I often don't get to eat "first dinner" until after 9 p.m. And I usually eat second dinner at like midnight. Breakfast for me most days starts at normal people's late lunch like 1-2 p.m. I'm aware that's a weird eating schedule, but at other places, there is always a late night option, at least for room service. Literally EVERY kitchen closes at the same time with no internal hotel options.

Yelp
Despite requesting housekeeping two days in a row, they didn't show. The hot tub was out of commission. The room was sooo basic. Only one office chair, no seating area, only two small paintings - one in the main room, one in the bathroom. .. A huge blank white wall in the main room. We had two rooms for 3 nights. The only compensation was a $30 gift card. Sucks.

Leslie L.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel, seriously. So decorative and little things were elaborate. Beds and pillows, not comfortable AT ALL, I woke up in a lot of pain every morning. My room was quiet because I was near a fire exit at the end of the hall. No one walking by. I could hear the people in the room next to me, having fun a little loudly. Luckily it wasn't every night!

Yelp
Really cool hotel right along the river in downtown Grand Rapids. Originally built as the Pantlind hotel in 1913, Amway bought the building in 1979 and restored it beautifully. We had a wonderful time just walking around, checking out different event rooms, and looking at all the details. However, we asked to stay on the newer "tower" side where the rooms are updated and the amenities are - like the rooftop pickleball courts and indoor pool. My room was very nice and had a view of the river. I did not have any problems with the a/c as others have noted. We did encounter a few issues though: namely, we had made a note on the original reservation (far in advance) and also called ahead to get adjoining rooms or just be on the same floor together but apparently they did not get the memo. After pressing, they had to work hard just to get us all in the tower but on different floors. The other thing I'd note is that the rooms can be quite loud - I happened to be the unlucky one with noisy neighbors partying after midnight. Despite these things, service was generally good. We also enjoyed the onsite Wolfgang restaurant for dinner one night and were walking distance to plenty of good bars. I would definitely recommend staying at the Amway at least once for the experience, or at least stop by to check it out.

Brian L.

Yelp
This is the grand dame of Grand Rapids hotels. It's a combination of a modern and historic hotel and it is wonderful. The lobby of the Pantlind (historic) wing is incredible. There are at least five bars and several restaurants including Ruth's Chris and the Wolfgang Puck Kitchen. There is a Spanish tapas restaurant/bar on the 27th floor of the tower as well. Rooms are elegant and comfortable. Tower rooms are larger and have larger bathrooms, but the historic wing rooms are also very nice with marble bathrooms. Don't miss the Lumber Baron Bar or the new Duckpin Bowling bar. Make sure you let housekeeping know if you want your room serviced every day as they seem to not automatically do this in the post-Covid era but my room was clean and fully stocked. Always a great stay at this elegant gem.

Yelp
My wife and I came here the weekend of 6/21/24 for my birthday weekend! We originally booked the King River room but on arrival were upgraded no charge to the King River suite! This hotel will always be special to us as this is where we got engaged! Love Amway!!!

Jd W.

Yelp
Upon arriving to the Amway Grand Hotel, initially I was very impressed. It looks quite beautiful and grand. When we arrived in our room, that is where it was definitely not grand. The room was outdated to say the least. The grout along the bathtub was moldy as well as mold on the ceiling. The tub needed to be recleaned. The water pressure in the shower was very poor and the water drained very slowly so you were standing in soapy water while showering. I called the front desk and was sent to an answering machine where I requested housekeeping / maid service to come up. We never saw or heard from anyone. The next morning, I called again and spoke to someone who said our room was on the PM schedule for cleaning. I explained again the situation and said I needed it done as soon as possible. No one ever came to clean our room our whole stay. I did see maid service in the hall and asked if she was coming to my room to clean and she said no and walked into another room. The valet was a nightmare. They were very short staffed, the valet staff who were getting the vehicles were working very hard and it was not their fault, but the wait was awful. I mentioned that I had someone who was disabled with me, the person at the valet office said there were lots of people disabled "that is the way it is and the wait is what it is". I have to say most of the employees were very nice, especially the Bellhop who brought my luggage to the room. Extremely kind and definitely customer focused. All of the food at the venue was very good and very generous amounts. So, all was not lost. I saw that my credit card was overcharged and called to ask for explanation of charges, the hotel registration / customer service person was extremely curt and said all charges were correct. As it turned out, I was correct and they had in fact overcharged me a significant amount. She told me it was my error that I should have checked my bill more closely. Thank goodness the venue / gathering I attended was excellent, otherwise this whole trip would have been totally unpleasant.

Yelp
This is a very nice hotel. The staff is friendly and the location is near everything. I found the condition of the room to be a bit wanting. There were not enough outlets for everything we need to plug in (computers, sleep machines, phones, etc.). Also, the layout was a bit odd. Make no mistake, I will happily return when my travels bring me back to Grand Rapids again, which I hope will be soon.

Tad M.

Yelp
This hotel is older but classic! I really like this place! The room is big and comfortable and clean! Killer bed sheets! I will return! Thank you!

Laurie B.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful stay at this hotel in Grand Rapids. My room was beautiful with a view overlooking the river and downtown. The views were breathtaking! Excellent customer service, a clean room, and a comfy bed....everything was top notch. I highly recommend.

Karen E.

Yelp
It's a beautiful elegant older hotel extremely conveniently located near the biggest event centers in downtown Grand Rapids for sure. To start valet parking can be super hit or miss, we actually went around the block twice because it was so backed up we couldn't turn in and cars not turning in were stuck behind us. We could clearly see nothing was moving fast so we made the decision to circle and we were right when we got back same cars still sitting, still couldn't turn in. Check in was efficient and pleasant. Got up to our room, spacious for a city hotel, clean. We paid extra for a river view and theoretically we got one, but it's a really big stretch that we should have paid extra for this view, it's 80% ugly, 20% lovely, but only if you stand in the right corner of the room :/ - please see pictures posted below. Two bottles of water in the room - not complimentary, where are we??? The air system was loud and ran 100% nonstop all night, not sure if this was a plus or a minus some people might call it white noise??? Shower head situation meant you couldn't turn it on without getting sprayed with cold water - yup we know the turn the head toward the back wall trick, but shower was narrow and the spray steam had good water pressure so it hit the back and splashed all over - so water pressure a plus/cold soak a negative. Check out was easy, and everyone was very pleasant. Nice hotel for sure! But the plusses vs the negatives don't really add up to the price point. Getting the view we actually paid more for instead of the view posted below would have brought this up to a 4, but hotel has too many bumps for the $$$ definitely not a 5.

Rob R.

Yelp
It's a nice hotel and conveniently located downtown. The service was less than sub par and very rude at check in. Oh and they checked me in late because the room they picked for me hadn't been inspected yet. It's very over priced and if you plan on having a few cocktails at the bar, bring your whole bank account. It wasn't cheap for what you could have gotten somewhere closer for half of what they charge. I don't mind paying higher prices in nicer places, but this was highway robbery. Not sure I would stay here again. I'd rather stay at the JW Marriot across the street and get 5 star service for paying 5 star prices.

Lucy R.

Yelp
Worst sheets ever...feels like sandpaper. Needless to say, didn't get much sleep. They should invest in softer sheets with the price you pay for a Ty.

Dana K.

Yelp
If you read the comments about the Amway Grand Hotel, you will see they are a mixed bag. The hotel is only grand from a distance. Up close, it is underwhelming. My drafty room was near the elevators. I asked for a change of room but was denied. Guests waiting for an elevator car or arriving sounded like they were in my room. My best guess was that the room's insulation was insufficient to keep out noise and cold. There was a gap at the bottom of the door that was so significant, the bath towel I shoved into to reduce draftiness protruded out into the hallway. The room never sufficiently warmed so I had to leave the thermostat at 80 degrees. The room wasn't the only thing lacking heat either--the bathroom's hot water was lukewarm. Service was tepid too. The bar and restaurants were closed for chunks of time during the day. There is no room service. The hotel was quite booked up, so much so, there were lines to wait for the elevators. It didn't seem as if they were all operational. This is my second stay at the Amway Grand Hotel and in a year's time, it has deteriorated. I will add one final thing, the hotel is large and difficult to navigate if you are using the meeting rooms. So overall, my 3 night stay was sadly unimpressive.

Debbie S.

Yelp
This was supposed to be a luxury hotel. I was on the twelfth floor in a riverview suite. The view was beautiful however, the air conditioning was not working. They came to fix it and the next morning it was still 76 degrees in my room. I proceeded to go to my conference and water was dripping from the ceiling all over my display. I advised the staff and when someone came to look at it he said " yeah, that leaks sometimes it hasnt done it in awhile so i guess its time" then he walked away and it just continued to leak. My room was still hot in the morning so I called the front desk and they sent another mechanic and replaced the whole unit. Obviously not with a new unit because that didn't work either. They offered to come look at it again. We got fed up and left.

Cory C.

Yelp
I had a great experience at the Amway Grand Plaza. I stayed there recently for a weeklong conference and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Great location (I had never been to Grand Rapids) but more importantly the staff were great and extremely helpful. I had some special circumstances and they went the extra mile to help me out and were very friendly about it. It was a very pleasant stay for me.

Lilian L.

Yelp
Due to a snowstorm in Toronto and a series of unfortunate events, I've had the unique experience of staying in both a room on the tower side, as well as a room on the Pantlind side at the Amway Grand Plaza. Overall, the hotel is nice, the staff are polite and friendly, the rooms are generally clean. Generally. When I first checked in, I had a corner suite in the tower side of the hotel with a view of the Grand River. It was a super nice room that was quiet and luxurious. However, when I pulled back the blanket on one of the beds, a card from an adult card game fell out. It caught me by surprise because the beds definitely looked like the sheets had been made, but if that was the case, where did that card come from?? Generally the room came with everything one would expect from a hotel room, except no bathrobe and no slippers, which was kinda disappointing. After my flight delay, I stayed in a room on the Pantlind side for two more nights. The rooms are generally clean and I quite like the traditional esthetic of the rooms, but man these rooms ARE SO NOISY. There are constant groups talking loudly in the hallways mornings and nights. As I am lying in bed trying to get a few hours of sleep before my 5 am flight, a gaggle of girls have been running up and down the hallways giggling. I thought this would be a one time occurrence, but they did it again about 15 mins later. It seems like the guests on the Pantlind side are rather rowdy? I'm not a fan, and I certain am unable to go back to sleep now. To add to that, no bathrobes or slippers in the room, the safe doesn't work, the fridge is at 57 degrees and after a day of cooling reached 45 degrees. The shower lost heat on me half way, it was awful. Also, the bed was made strangely with the flat sheet hanging off the bed? I hate to complain because this is such a beautiful hotel, and the room I had on the tower side was pretty good. I just wish circumstances were different and they can perhaps fix the noise issue, broken appliances, and problems with consistency in housekeeping...

Tim K.

Yelp
Very nice hotel in a perfect location to explore downtown Grand Rapids. Walking distance to a plethora of dining options, coffee shops, shopping. Our room was situated on the "old side" (apparently there's a side with more modern rooms as well). I can't compare, but I did like my room - very large, spacious, sofa, tv, decent size bathroom with shower/tub combo. The lobby is grand and beautiful. Lots of Victorian-style decor and seating areas -- good place to catch up on some work and reading. The starbucks right off the lobby was great too!

Lorie C.

Yelp
Stayed here one night along with family. I reserved 4 different rooms weeks in advance. I reserved them to be in the tower and rooms close to each other on the same floor. I even called a few days ahead to confirm. Unfortunately when we arrived the desk clerk didn't have any of that information just randomly assigned us rooms. With some effort we were able to be in the tower on different floors. I don't fault the hotel staff. This is a corporate problem with reservations having to be booked through Hilton online/call in service. I prefer being able to work directly with the individual hotel. Aside from that it was a good stay. Rooms were comfortable and clean. There was a noise factor for some because of thin walls. It's a great location with nice views of the city and river. The historical part of the hotel was beautiful to explore. I would recommend the experience at least once of staying here.

Denise P.

Yelp
Not what it used to be. Since the Hilton takeover, the food options have significantly narrowed. There is exactly one very small self-serve counter restaurant for an entire weekend hotel full of hungry people to get breakfast and they were out of half of their menu. Inexcusable. Staff is still great and it's still beautiful, but it has the unfortunate and distinct feel of a chain. NOT in a good way. I will not be back. Update (all the Wolfgang Puck Counter): sign said no quiche but there was quiche. They said no decaf because they didn't want to half to brew more. Staff took our silverware away. Line a mile long. 400 room hotel. Sunday morning. 1 tiny Cafe with 15 tables. Brilliant.

Jessica N.

Yelp
This is my fourth time staying at the Amway, which is typically a great experience. This current time has been an awful experience. Our room A/C is broken, we found out the hard way at our fridge was unplugged and had to throw out food and drink warm drinks, and our bathroom door is broken. Most of these I can live with but the worst part is some construction going on next to our room at starts at 6am and has woken us up both mornings we were here. There's no way we can sleep through it and we just wanted a good nights sleep. Not what I expect at a hotel this nice/expensive. Super frustrating and disappointing.

Sarah R.

Yelp
I'm told this is the "nicest" hotel in Grand Rapids, and there are some elements that are really elegant, like the historic lobby. Overall though it wasn't the most comfortable or considered stay. I would have liked a bathrobe in the room by default and also automatic housekeeping more often (they default to housekeeping on the fifth day or by request). There was also terrible powdered coffee in the room. The pillows were really uncomfortable, huge and dense. The HVAC worked well and was east to use. The gym was being renovated while we were staying there so I'd be curious to see if it will get modernized. The "speakeasy" in the hotel was a joke. They seemed annoyed we were there and the server didn't know what a daiquiri was (she is like, we don't have a blender... at a bar marketed as a cocktail bar I would think they'd know their basic martini style cocktails). It also had the tackiest all white interior with faux leather everywhere, like an early 2000's nightclub. The hotel has an odd cinnamon smell that reminds me of glade plug ins. It's a dated fragrance and didn't smell clean to me at all, more like they were trying to cover something up. I did enjoy the view from the room, the bar staff at Ruth's Chris, and really loved the inventive menu and team at MDRD upstairs. The whole amway association rubs me the wrong way as well. Seeing portraits of the Devos family felt gross. I would prefer to stay somewhere else next time! But I do recommend the Spanish restaurant for those visiting GR.

Yelp
This hotel feels like the Titanic. It's very beautiful on entry. Ornate design, but if you look a little closer the issues pop out. The carpet at the check in is stained. A lot of stains. It's dark, so you may not see it unless you look at it. The room quality is infuriating. All are expensive, but the tower side is just better. They're more updated and more importantly they maintained. The rooms on the Pantlind sides were not up to par. Dirty rag on the couch. Bathroom was still dirty. Floor was as not vacuumed. The tub did not plug and the mechanism was broken. Nothing in the bathroom had the luxury I'd expect. The noise from the hall and street were unreasonable. It's like this side of the hotel is for the "unseen". But the price says otherwise. No one should feel this way. We did let housekeeping know about the lack of cleanliness and they did correct the issue. I've spoke with the staff about this and they did not seem to care too much.

Yelp
Everyone in Grand Rapids knows the Amway Grand, a historic hotel in downtown along the Grand River. Originally opened in 1913, the hotel is now a Hilton Hotel property under the Curio brand. There are two parts to the hotel- the tower and the historic building. For vintage rooms, book in the historic part. For modern rooms, book in the tower. The two sides are connected by the historic lobby, shops, a restaurant, and an excellent cocktail bar called Lumber Baron Bar. There's a pool on the second floor. We stayed in the modern side on the 18th floor with excellent views of the city of Grand Rapids. The room itself was just okay- not as luxurious as you'd think. Two queen beds barely fit and the bathrooms small. Nothing stood out in the room. In terms of service, the staff were great. They offer you water bottles upon check in and check out. If you want a hotel right in downtown, it's not a bad option.

Yelp
Gorgeous hotel with excellent amenities including Wolfgang Puck's restaurants. Valet parking available, but not required. There is a parking ramp right across the street from the hotel that is free to use with a hotel room key.

Yelp
This hotel is really cute and aesthetically pleasing. The front desk staff were very professional and friendly. The ruths chris is a plus. The rooms are super clean and comfortable Due to covid they don't provide microwaves in every room and the main bar is still closed due to staffing issues. Love that it's located within a walkable distance of food and stores so great for visitors unfamiliar with the area.

Yelp
The hotel itself has a lot classic charm. The original part of the hotel has dark wood and many plush seating areas to relax. There's even duckpin bowling! The rooms are a bit small, but updated. The staff is less than pleasant over the phone. I was even hung up on one time when I called to see if they allowed early room access. Once we arrived, the staff was very helpful and pleasant in person. If we had not been in town for a wedding, I'm not sure we would have ended up staying here with our initial experience with staff.

Yelp
We loved our stay at the Amay. I've been wanting to stay at the Amay for years so when I had a work conference, this was a perfect opportunity. I invited my friend to join me, too. Grand Rapids is one of our favorite spots, but we get so busy checking out new places, that we don't get to frequent GR as much as we'd like. My friend knows everything about GR and he has stayed here for a wedding back in the day. Since then, this place has been renovated. We stayed in the historical part of the hotel in a King Suite. The room was huge and we enjoyed the amenities. The layout was a little odd with some wasted space, but overall it served it's purpose. We enjoyed checking out the cool spots in the hotel. They have some really quaint bars and an impressive restaurant in the tower. We loved the whiskey bar and I'll let you in on a little secret, there's even a speakeasy located in the hotel. We were unable to go swimming because that area was under renovation. but we plan to come back and check it out. The Amway is centrally located and close to so many things. We look forward to our next trip back!

Yelp
Well, it's my second time staying here... the hotel has a great lobby, everything is original with original chandeliers. Absolutely stunning! The rooms are spacious, beds very comfortable. But they definitely could use an overhaul. The reason I take stars off, the first front desk person was not very helpful. I understand you have rules that need to be followed, but there has to be room for accommodation: we arrived at hotel and they will absolutely not accept cash at all. I completely forgot to deposit more money into my account and had no clue that there is no Wells Fargo bank anywhere in Grand Rapids or surrounding area! After I figured out my situation I went back to check in and this new lady was very friendly and gave us a nice spacious room. Unfortunately after getting comfortable in my room we've noticed a large very wet stain on the carpet, called housekeeping and they never showed up. Overall I do like this hotel but just needs more care and perhaps let folks know that cash is nowhere accepted anymore. Maybe I've missed the memo!

Yelp
We stayed here for a night to watch the PBR Bullriding At the Van Andel Arena which is connected to this hotel by a walkway tunnel. The parking for guests is $29 a night and remember to bring the parking ticket when you check in so that they can validate the parking for you. The hotel feels like walking back in time and it is a very luxurious but old hotel. The rooms are huge. If you can imagine - the beds are too far from the tv to actually see the tv unless you have amazing eyesight! But the have a couch and chairs where you can sit and watch tv. This was very convenient for the Arena and worth the money.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel. Not super kid friendly, but adults are right in the middle of a lot of fun here.

Yelp
I loved staying here! The room was spacious, the location was superb, the fact that there is a Starbucks attached to the hotel, made my day!! While the bathroom was a bit small (we are used to a larger/double sink area), with one pedestal sink, I liked that it had a bathtub. There are a number of restaurants on site to choose from, and the main bar (Rendezvous) was bustling every night! The front desk made check in and out very easy. They were all cordial and accommodating. My only draw back would be a request we made by valet service to have our car ready at 12:45 and we were still waiting at 1pm. It only happened one day out of four, so may have just been very busy that day. I would love to return tot his beautiful hotel.

Yelp
The style of the lobby is nice, but there are a few issues to note. Quite a walk from parking deck to lobby with your luggage. Better signage is needed to help guests navigate the hotel as it is not at all intuitive. Unfortunately there is one tiny hot tub for a massive hotel which odds are will be filled with kids at any given time. And I hope you don't plan on sleeping much because with the paper thin walls, you will hear every noise in the pipes, in the hallway and even outside.

Yelp
Okay so let me just start by saying, yes it's a nice historic hotel. HOWEVER. The AC in the room is a hot mess and barely works. The street noise is literally another level of loud... all night long. Pillows were very uncomfortable. The rooms smelt like mildew. The walls to the historic side are also paper thin, you can IMAGINE what you hear. No room service still bc of covid... even though the entire staff isn't wearing masks. Before staying here really make sure it's what you want.. I asked for an updated room they said this was it. Unfortunately I didn't realize the new tower was completely closed, and was sent fo the historic side with modern shadows is what I was told when I was checking in.

Yelp
My mother and I have stayed at the Amway every January (with the exception of 2021) for the past 8 or so years and after this past stay, it may very well be our last. We enjoy a "Girl's Weekend" in GR and really lean on the philosophy, 'Treat yourself" after this stay, we should be treating ourselves to a long shower. Our room (in the Historic Pantlind building) was disgusting. They recently renovated the once opulent rooms so they now resemble that of a Holiday Inn Express, all-white everything, which conveniently shows the grime missed by housekeeping. Not to mention, they didn't bother to finish painting the ceiling, and the "new" furniture was cracked, scuffed and overall shabby. For $250+/night you would expect some level of service or amenities, not at the Amway! Room service, pool, salon services, etc have been shut down since March 2020 'due to Covid' yet none of the staff wears masks, rooms clearly have not been properly cleaned due to the stains on the wall and mildew around the tubs, and they are operating at full capacity. Microwaves have been removed from the rooms, and if you request one? $25. We will definitely be looking into other upscale hotels Downtown as the Amway might as well be called Motel 6.

Yelp
No room service so I ordered Uber Eats which was delivered to the front desk I asked to have it delivered and they said they could not do that Walked downstairs in my pajamas and there were 6 people behind the desk standing around

Yelp
I've lived in Michigan my whole life. I've always heard the Amway was the nicest hotel in the state. I'm even a DeVos supporter. This is hands down one on the worst hotels I've ever stayed in. The room was extremely piss poor and the bathroom was worse. The water in my shower never got hot so I opted for only washing my face. Also they put us in a room right next the elevators where they are hosting a convention of the black engineers society and there's a TON of the convention goers on our floor using it all night. So every 3-5 minutes you can hear the elevator ride and the dinging of the bell as the doors open. I will never ever come back. What a piece is shit.

Yelp
No available valet, self parking across the street for $35, hand sanitizer empty for the 24hrs we were there, room ok, fridge empty, bathroom smelled funky/musky (no fan in bathroom) and ample mold around bathtub. It's undergoing renovations (this was advertised), not sure it can bounce back to "old grandeur" after ... clientele was ... "interesting" on top of everything else.

Yelp
This was our second time staying here and we are repeat customers because of the great hospitality and competitive pricing. Amandeep helped us check in both times and he was absolutely magnificent. He was friendly, sincere, provided us with tips on parks to check out and was all around warm. Prices at the hotel were better than the Marriot next door (where I've also stayed) and I like the Amway setup and decor better. Posh but reasonable!

Yelp
Stayed in the historic section of Amway. The staff does an amazing job keeping it so clean and true to its original splendor. It really is like going back in time. The room was very clean and comfortable. The only thing that surprised me was that the pool area was closed during the week. Was told if I wanted to use pool, I had to run across the road to Marriott. But overall, it was a great couple of days.

Yelp
Stayed here for a night. Got a view with the river. My an amazing hotel and apparently at the money there was a theatre convention going on for high school kids. So the place was packed. During the day there was barely any room in the lobby to walk around. However, the staff work very hard to keep people moving and get people checked in and on there way. We came in at night and everyone was very nice. The hotel was nice and had great accommadations. They had a pool with a hot tub. Also had a sauna and showers. You felt like you were in a fancy hotel for sure. The hotel is located in a great place with shops, restaurants and bars all around. The only thing I did not like is that you were able to hear everything in that hotel. People were constantly roaming the halls and making tons of noise. Beside that everything was great. Would stay here again for sure.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel with amazing views. From the moment I checked-in, the front desk staff were friendly and informative. I will mention that this is a VERY large hotel boasting with restaurants and shops. I was a bit confused at the very beginning, but figured it out quickly. The Diamond comped breakfast in the morning was delicious. Friendly wait staff. The room was clean and spacious. I tend to be a clean freak when I travel and this hotel room was in pristine condition! I am very pleased with the amenities that are offered here and will happy stay here again when I'm visiting Grand Rapids!

Yelp
Beautiful lobby and throughout the hotel, beautiful view of the Grand River from our river view room, but our walk in shower was not cleaned (opened soap and shampoo/condition still in it) and the sink was clogged. The safe would not lock (keeps showing an Error message when we did everything just right). We did call the front desk and the bathroom was cleaned and the sink unclogged while we went to the pool. I really wish the safe was working, though, so we could've our valuables in there instead of our luggage while housekeeping and engineering came through while we went down to the pool area. The pool area was clean and it wasn't crowded (it was a Saturday afternoon and I saw a lot of people there attending weddings). I think my biggest qualm with it was that there are 2 hot tubs and one of them wasn't working and it didn't have a sign of any sort mentioning the jets not working properly. A simple sign like that allows people to not have to be disappointed when they get to find out the hard way after getting in. Lastly, I'm not sure what the going rate is for self-park at a decently nice hotel like Amway Grand Plaza, but $32 a day seems pretty steep, don't you think? Anyway, since this is about $100 less than the JW Marriott around the corner, I guess I'll settle for what we got, but we will probably try to stay somewhere else next time.

Yelp
This is a 100 year old hotel, and try as they might, it really does not have the elegance or grandeur to overcome the fact it's a dated, old building. Parts of the lobby try to capture the grandeur of the days gone by, but those parts are choppy, confusing, and frankly feel dated. Other parts of the lobby are modern and updated. Some parts are stark white modern. No cohesiveness to the feel. For some reason there is no valet parking, rather I must self park a block away. Not the most convenient. So beware if this is an issue for you. They are renovating the tower part to compete with the JW directly across the street, so my room was in the old part. The old part is just plain old, despite recent cosmetic updates to the rooms. Hallways are plain stark white and feel dated. Rooms are tiny. Really tight. Updated bathrooms with higher end finishes, but are so tiny, that you have to shimmy sideways past the toilet to get into the shower. Zero counter space, but there is a narrow glass ledge. Shower head is probably one of the worst heads I've ever experienced. Very sparse spray of water. And clearly there is no recirculation of hot water as it took about 10 minutes to get hot water. This room felt like am American version of one of those sleeping tubes. More like a boarding room than a hotel. Other than being tiny and cramped, the room had a comfortable bed, lots of nice pillows. I did visit a large suite. Again, despite being large, it felt cramped and dated. Just no reason to stay here unless you are here for a conferance.
