Huh, I didn't realize I hadn't written a review for Amy's yet. Amy's is the ice cream of Austin. They're the reason Ben & Jerry's can't seem to make it here. Each location is unique and quirky. This one has an old photo booth that apparently takes quite a while to print. There's quite a lot of visual stimuli to keep you entertained if you're in line.
If you aren't familiar with Amy's, it's a bit like Coldstone in that you can get things crushed & mixed into your ice cream. But they also have fun rotating flavors, including 2-3 vegan options and 2 alcohol-infused flavors. You may not always find just the thing you're looking for, particularly if you're partial to creamy fruity ice cream flavors, but you're bound to find something to enjoy. And you can taste as many flavors as your heart desires.
I personally find that a tiny size on a cone is plenty for me to satiate my dessert cravings. Note that when you get a tiny, you can only get toppings, not crush-ins. You can also order decadent shakes or ice cream cakes of various sizes. They also sell other things like chocolate-covered strawberries, hot cocoa mix, packaged marshmallows, and cute inflatable cows.
Lines can get long depending on when you go. Most of the time I don't wait for more than a few minutes, but on my most recent trip it took 40 min or so to get to order. They only had 1 person serving at the time, but the people are always nice and ready to help. Occasionally they even perform and toss around scoops.
Last few thoughts: don't forget to get a stamp card! 10 stamps gets you free ice cream, or you can save up 20 stamps to get a t-shirt. Also, if you're there during the day and have a few extra minutes, walk over to Planet K for photo ops with an Austin mural.
