First time visit after seeing this small, hole-in-the-wall taqueria on an episode of Texas Bucket List. The chef/owner evidently has a James Beard Award so we figured it would be good food.
As I said, it is a very small restaurant, capable of seating 30 patrons or so at small, rather uncomfortable tables and chairs. The basic setup is you order at a small window up front, they give you a number to set on the table and they bring your food out. We sat down at a table and looked over the menu and then made our order. A server then brought a couple small trays with six different salsas and a small container of sautéed onions. In a very short time, food began arriving at our table.
I ordered two orders of Elotes; corn ribs which are small sections of ears of corn, grilled with spices. They were ok, not outrageous but decent. I probably wouldn't order them again. Next to arrive was the guacamole our friend ordered. It was a decent amount of guac but only 4 or 5 large corn chips. That seemed strange to me. Next to arrive were various tacos that were ordered. My Carnitas Taco was very tasty. They make all their tortillas in house so the corn tortilla was very good. There was a decent amount of pork and white onion. Cilantro was sprinkled on top. I added some of the grilled onions and a salsa verde. That was a very good combination! I'd definitely order this taco gain.
The wife ordered a Chille Relleno Taco, not really knowing what to expect. To me it looked like small chunks of beef on top of a grilled pepper inside a flour tortilla. She seemed like it was just ok. I also ordered Charro Beans with Chicharron which was pretty good. Nit the best Charro Beans I've eaten but still, pretty good. I'd order them again. Several of our friends ordered Fajita Tacos which they enjoyed.
We tried all their tortillas different salsas and the general consensus was they all were decent and a couple were too hot for several members of our group. I particularly liked the creamier salsa Verde and the salsa Roja. The grilled onions were a delight.
All in all our meal consisting of two tacos, two orders of Elotes ($5 each), the Charros and two Cokes totaled $24 plus tip. Not terribly expensive but not a bargain either. We will definitely give them mother visit and try a few different items.
