The 15 Saddest Bar and Restaurant Closings in D.C. in 2019 - Eater DC

"The Navy Yard raw bar shucked its last oyster last month, closing after less than four years of business on the banks of the Anacostia River. The closure comes as co-owners (and cousins) Nick and David Wiseman shift gears to focus on the growth of their cult-favorite hummus chain Little Sesame. Whaley’s chef Daniel Perron’s menu was big on shellfish, crudos, crab salad, and soft-shell crab across the seafood spot that flipped its outdoor patio into a palm-filled Rosé Garden during warmer months. There is, however, an exciting replacement restaurant to look forward to. Chefs Gerald Addison and Chris Morgan, formerly of Maydan, will devote the 1,800-square-foot space to a new joint project." - Tierney Plumb

Attended and helped during US Rowing event. It was awesome. Everyone is nice and welcoming. There were teams from all over. Based on my experience I would attend any event they hold and love to learn more about how to get on the water with them.

For the annual DC Dragon Boat Festival, we signed up for two on water practices before the race day. This boathouse and docks were conveniently located off I-695 in southeastern DC. Besides the boathouse for crew, there were rowing machines and modified paddling machines. There were restrooms and showers available.

Today, I had my very first practice of outrigger! It was super fun, and my coaches were very friendly and knowledgeable! My teammates are very nice as well! Love to come back and become a member at this club! Definitely recommend this place if you are interested in learning new water sports techniques here is the place. The first 5 sessions will be free and then you can become a member and enjoy much more with only $285 per year.

Hidden gem! I do wish Google navigation could be corrected to direct first time visitors to the shared parking lot, instead of the closed, pedestrian-only, side entrance next to the road...

Amazing volunteer-run umbrella organization for rowing, paddling, dragon boating, outrigger canoeing — home to Capital Rowing Club and DC Strokes — community oriented and super friendly. Highly recommend.

Just went for their sweep refresher and I loved it so much I'm signing up for the season! The coaches are great, kind people who care about the sport but more importantly they care about you getting involved and helping you do your best. I highly recommend this boathouse if anyone's looking to scull or sweep in the DMV area!

A friend of mine coaches here (so I may be biased), but I liked visiting. Many rowers, all seemed to be intent on learning, practicing, and/or getting themselves to where they need to be to be competitive. Good atmosphere. A ton of shells.

It was a very nice black history month program celebrating the history of the Seafarers Yacht Club 75 Years. There were lots of Dignitaries there such as Eleanor Holmes Norton the ex Mayor Gray, the former Mrs Marion Barry and a host of other very important people...

Yelp
Whether you want to paddle and row recreationally or competitively, there are teams to fit your goals. You train and compete with a wonderful group of people here. People of all ages are part of the boathouse. No matter which team you are a part of, you'll find a great community of people cheering you on to succeed in your paddling and/or rowing journey.
