"Anar began as a small Persian food stall in a predominantly Chinese food court, and has since moved into a historical house in Steveston. Incorporating herbs, nuts, and a variety of fruit like pomegranates, plums, and prunes into its food, Anar favors flavors that are bold and bright, as evidenced in small plates like mirza ghasemi (smoky eggplant in tomato and garlic sauce) and larger plates like baghali polo ba goosht (lamb shank and dill rice with broad beans). The lamb/beef kabobs and the chicken were both incredibly juicy. Rice was flavorful and fluffy. I honestly can’t remember last time I ate rice this perfect, or meats this juicy. The eggplant dip is also so, so amazing. This is food heaven! I clearly need to eat Persian food more often. Also staff is so friendly and sweet. Can’t wait to be back and try more.

What a wonderful experience. Never had Persian cuisine, nor did I know what to look for or expect. A parking spot opened up right up front while looking for another restaurant. Had seats open and the menu looked intriguing. Ventured in and fell in love. A couple lovely families enjoying their evening when I was seated, normal family friendly atmosphere. Full of laughter and joy. Soon everyone else had left and I enjoyed the whole place to myself. I got to experience a few firsts. The lamb shank was cooked perfectly, only needed my fork to pull apart what didn't fall off the bone. The rose lemonade was out of this world. Their eggplant appetizer and crispy soft pillowy bread was unlike any bread I have had before. Every bite was delicious. Ended with their half and half dessert, the rose syrup was a homerun. I will definitely be coming back to try their kebab.

Friendly service, though longer than expected; guess it's made to order 😉 Rice stuffed in grape leaves: taste and texture on point. Roasted 🍆 dip: truly an appetizing appetizer, especially with the freshly made bread 😋 Fesenjoon: unique (sweet/sour) taste, reminiscent of Filipino dinuguan. Loughmeh kabob: the 🌟- order this if you only have one choice! Juicy, flavourful and tender...the jeweled rice, however, lacks in taste. Beef ghormeh sabzi: thick, salty beef stew, nothing stands out. Chicken curry: tender but lack the flavour the menu suggests. South Beach fish: bit dry, saved by the dill rice and sautéed vegetables. Faloodeh: skip it. Lemon (?) Ice cream was OK, but the blocky cubes of syrup are poor execution and presentation.

Amazingly spiced, great lamb shank with rice it literally falls off the bone! rice was expertly seasoned not to much or too little very complimentary i must say! I dare say even gordon Ramsey himself would actually like this. The service from the staff is on point and the food is just as good. I will return with friends and family for sure! The owner even thanked me personally for my patronage! Outstanding!!! I wish I could recommend more dishes but I can only eat so much. I'll update more in the future! Forgot to take photos at the restaurant but I have the leftover pics and it's still just as good!! I kept the bones for the marrow is so good!

We went there on weekend with my wife and our kids. The food was good and portions were generous. Service was excellent and atmosphere was great, so I left a tip on our bill without even checking it. Unfortunately, it was a mistake to pay without checking. It turns out that we were charged for items we neither ordered nor consumed - 5 extra drinks, total of 29 CAD + taxes + tips (see receipt attached). It might be a fair mistake, but it is definitely a costly lesson for me.

Some of the best flavours I've tasted. This is a must try restaurant in Steveston. The homemade Iranian ice cream with saffron and rose water is absolutely amazing.

Incredible food and service, we’ve visited multiple times and always had a great experience. We recently visited for a family birthday and the staff went above and beyond to make our evening a special one. This is one of the best restaurants in Richmond, it is definitely worth checking out!
