"There's a rustic, shabby-chic feel to this long-standing and ever-busy pub located conveniently close to The Young Vic Theatre. It's an appropriate setting for the hearty cooking informed by quality British produce, be it a generous portion of roasted beetroot with feta or suitably flavoursome ox tongue with lentils. Combine this with a lively atmosphere and relaxed yet well-drilled service, and you have all you need in a pub. If you're dining as a pair, look out for the cassoulet to share." - Michelin Inspector

Called at this pub today in August 2025 only to find it closed which was a big disappointment having cycled down from Greenwich. When it has been open we found it to be a lovely and honest pub, traditional and well kept inside, nice seating area outside by the river, nice service. The food was very good and the selection of beers was good. Doesn’t try to be something it isn’t like other pubs do these days. It is also close to Pirate Studios in Greenwich so for those bands who are rehearsing this pub is only a 10 minute walk away. I hope to see it reopen soon.

Had a very tasty roast there today. Food is nicely presented and the quantity is superb. Meat is greatly cooked, and the roast potatoes were the cherry on top. If you are looking for a tasty Sunday roast at a reasonable price, this is the place to go

Nice location and decent ambiance, but the food is skippable. When the sun is shining or even at sunset the location by the river is great for a quick pint or a sit down with friends. The pint selection is limited but popular choices like Moretti, Guinness are available even the Beavertown Neck Oil (which had sadly run out).

Always lively down here on a summer day. Can sit by the river. Pub is the best in the area. Classic old pub look inside, reasonable selection on tap. Got TV for sports, jukebox too. Sitting outside in the beer garden by the river is best though.

Good friendly pub on the banks of the Thames within walking distance of the Valley. Good place to go for a pre match drink. Outside seating plus some food options outside

The Sunday roast at Anchor & Hope is great. We’ve had it a few times, and it’s always spot on. The lamb roast, in particular, is delicious. The pub itself has a relaxed vibe, with river views and a nice outdoor terrace.

A lovely riverside pub with a distinctly nautical theme. Hidden away a bit behind an industrial park but well worth a bit of exploring to call in for a pint or two. Jolly, attentive service. A range of beers, both cask and keg on offer. Many people were ordering food, a good sign. A short walk along the river to the local yacht club and the rest of Greenwich Peninsula. A good place to visit!

Went in for a quick pub lunch, and it was very good! Got the fish and chips and a cider - the chips were fantastic, crunchy on the outside but soft in the middle, and it was good value for nearby the O2! The inside is a bit cramped - but there’s a lot of seats and space outside

Yelp
Poor Poor Service and dishones lying Management. Went to this pub back in September, was promised a 10% refund for their appalling service but never returned money despite promising. People like this should never be allowed to run a busines.

Yelp
Unhinged owner/management who have shown first disregard and eventually contempt for an important health and safety matter that was brought up with them repeatedly over the course of several weeks.

Yelp
My cousin that is a Londoner suggested this place to us and all I can say is that the food is imaginative and delicious. My octopus and chickpea (stew?) was literally out of this world delicious.... my wife's chicken special likewise was a hit. Drink menu was broad and deep... the service attentive, knowledgeable and respectful.....They were conscious that many customers were going to shows nearby (we were not that night) and they paced meals accordingly.

Yelp
a great pub for a sunny weekend or bank holiday booze up. Sit out on the river and watch the world go by - great sunday lunch. Dont get caught short the bar only takes cash - no cards accepted at all and no local cash point.

Yelp
Lovely riverside pub without the tourists. Off the beaten track but easy to park and get to by foot or bike. Seafood stall outside, plus great range of food inside. I had a great IPA served by proper bar staff! Not far from the Dome or Thames Barrier, both of which can be seen from the riverside beer garden. It's not the best view of the Thames, but it's a view, which is more than you get from the average outside space.

Yelp
Awesome little pub in a very deserted industrial area - but worth the trek. Sunday roast is very tasty and an incredible bargain. Drinks are reasonably priced and on a sunny day, the riverside patio is perfect. Also they have a little seafood stand set up there now that serves delicious stuff! For sure worth a visit!

Yelp
Wouldn't you know it, the Anchor & Hope didn't mind that we crashed James' 40th birthday party after our game of laser tag. This is really the only pub in kind of a deserted area, so it was pretty good for where it was. Outside there are great views of the Thames Barrier, and the drinks are cheap. There was even a lounge singer to entertain us.

Yelp
After waiting nearly an hour for ham egg and chips and seeing lots of rolls and toasties and fish and chips going out to tables that arrived after us, we asked for a refund only to be told we don't give refunds and you can see how busy we are, we decided that we didn't want food now as it had been so long and customer service was non existent, if they had just apologised and admitted that they had forgotten us and offered a free drink we would have accepted that, so they have got got our money for non existent food and told a load of rubbish "we don't do refunds" will not be returning.

Yelp
Love this pub! So cute, right by the river. A bit out of the way, but the atmosphere is perfect- lots of comfy chairs, kid friendly. Great pours and good prices. Definitely come here if you are in the area, or looking to escape the London crowds!

Yelp
A truly great pub for a night out with friends. The drinks are pretty cheap, so you can drink as much as you like, but that doesn't mean they aren't good. The bartenders are very quick on their feet, so even if there is a crowd the night you are going there, you will be served shortly and won't have to wait long. Another thing you should have in mind is also the fact, that they accept only cash, so keep that in mind before going. Otherwise this place can't get any better. The staff are very friendly, the people, that go there are a nice company and it also has a great view from the op floor. Totally recommended!
