The Best Detroit-Style Pizza In Seattle, Ranked - Seattle - The Infatuation

"From the masterminds behind burnt honey-sweetened cold brew comes a girthy pan pie situation that isn’t a total mess to eat. Anchorhead’s yeasty crust is crackly but soft, with a hefty layer of sticky mozzarella, and tomato sauce enhanced by just a hint of dried herbs. And while the pepperoni has a nice brittle crispness, we prefer the plain slab, especially drenched in their homemade dill-flecked ranch. Just be quick—sometimes Seattle U students will clean out the case at lunchtime." - aimee rizzo, gabe guarente

Anchorhead Coffee & Bakery - Review - Capitol Hill - Seattle - The Infatuation

"At first, Anchorhead's Capitol Hill location seems like the others, complete with the pistachio milk matcha and burnt honey-sweetened cold brew we know and love. And for the most part, it is—grab a latte and be on your way. But descend a flight of stairs and you'll find a moody basement hangout that smells like baked goods at all times, and comes in handy when you need to get some work done while blocking out the rest of the world. The other secret about this Anchorhead location is that they also serve standout Detroit-style pizza. Their yeasty crust is crackly but soft, with a hefty layer of sticky mozzarella, and tomato sauce enhanced by just a hint of dried herbs. And while the pepperoni has a nice brittle crispness, we prefer the plain slab, especially drenched in their homemade dill-flecked ranch. Just be quick—sometimes Seattle U students will clean out the case at lunchtime." - Aimee Rizzo

Google
Coffee shop right by Seattle university to sit and work on an article, hang out with friends or have a meeting. Small seating upstairs and more seating available downstairs. Many choices of pastries and that was the main reason for me to stop by. Amazing croissants with unique flavored fillings. Good coffee and service was quick. They also have some retail products and also sell their beans.

Samuel Hahn

Google
Good coffee but the pastries were not impressive. Espresso had really good flavor. They were using the right beans

Brandie was an incredible trainer for the latte art class I attended. She was so kind, knowledgeable, and provided clear and helpful feedback. I hope to come back for a level 2 class! I also had the chance grab a pound of coffee, a breakfast sandwich, and a coffee (all delicious!). It’s clear that coffee craftsmanship is a core value here. I recommend this shop for anyone looking for a tasty cup of coffee, relaxed ambiance, or anyone interested in learning latte art.

Google
Really liked the coffee. The cookie was also pretty good. The employees were super nice and just had an overall friendly environment. Upstairs is a good place to study and the downstairs is too but it’s a bit dark and not a lot of lighting.

I have been a regular at Anchorhead for two years now. It’s my go-to coffee place in Capitol Hill, especially since it’s so convenient for me as a seattle u student. Their coffee is always wonderful and their seasonal flavors are always amazing. My favorites are their caramel-fruit blends. They also have great seasonal pastries, with my favorite being their orange cranberry scone. Great place, highly recommend.

Google
This is one of the very few coffee shops that do offer 10oz latte (which is my ideal proportion). Music is always on point. Barista skills are impeccable. Ambiance is unique. Only downside is you have to be early to get a hold of the better pastries

Google
Cafe with a cool vibe, the downstairs section is dope! Not the quietest but lots of people doing work here. The coffee was pretty good, I saw a lot of cool drink combos in the pictures so I’m excited to come back and try them

Derrick Connell

Google
The coffee is delicious - nestled near the Seattle university campus so it has a cool student vibe. Always nice to see people reading and studying

Yelp
Just arrived in Seattle a few days ago while moving a friend here so we wanted to get our first cup of coffee-- Anchorhead did not disappoint! The space itself is cozy, but there are a few tables and high top spots to sit at if you want to meet a friend or spend a little morning/afternoon here. The barista was incredibly nice and friendly. The iced latte with fresh mint was perfect-- the right amount of espresso and mint flavor was great as it wasn't over powering or artificial tasting. The iced dirty chai is also delicious-- the spices and flavor were really well balanced. For pastries, the cinnamon roll was delicious (I believe it had a cream cheese frosting). They had a selection of pastries and a few breakfast sandwich options as well. My friend got the bacon and egg sandwich and said it was a good choice!

Yelp
Heard that they had a blueberry matcha here and wanted to try. Personally I really liked it bc I'm not a huge matcha person and it was more blueberry than matcha, same with the strawberry matcha. My friends ordered so I didn't interact with the staff at all but they seemed pretty nice, I saw one of my friends spilled at the counter and they Were quick to clean it up .Overall would go back and try more things. The spot was nice too! I liked all the plants

Yelp
Anchorhead has become a favorite for me I look forward to their delicious coffee- usually order their nitro or just a cold brew . Their staff is always prompt and ordering is easy. When I'm not in the mood for coffee I live for their blueberry matcha!

Yelp
Cute coffee place with lots of seating and yummy coffee and matcha. I love their cute cups and portion size. We got an iced latte and a seasonal iced blueberry matcha. They were both delicious!

Grace S.

Yelp
Their 12 oz drinks are in fact 12 oz. I guess I prefer the cups that are skinnier and taller and trick me into believing I'm getting more. Good WiFi and lots of seating. Geared towards students for sure.

Yelp
Chilled out little cafe. Very good coffee. The pastries were a bit on the dry side. Are they fresh every morning or was there a holdover from yesterday. Still... all yummy. Helpful nice service

Yelp
Super cool coffee shop that turns into a bar at night! We went to their game night on Tuesday, and I was super impressed by the ambiance. Make sure you go downstairs, and see the beautiful plants, tall stairway, airy space, and neon lights. They also host latte/coffee making classes here, and have trivia nights/other events too! As of this review, the bar is open Tuesday - Thursday evenings. You might need to knock on the door if you come right around 6, and they're open all the way til 11! The drinks were okay, a bit on the pricey side for sure, and they offered a lot of hot dogs, including a sweet option. I'd come for the vibes, not necessarily the food or drink in the evening, but I've heard good things about their morning/afternoon drinks!

Yelp
Easily my favorite matcha I've had in Seattle -- I've had a Strawberry Matcha before but a Blueberry one was unexpectedly lovely!

Nina M.

Yelp
I love their blueberry matcha!!!! Have also tried their salted caramel cookie and cinnamon roll which are also so yummy

Yelp
It was okay. The barista was super nice, and I really liked the ambiance in there, it seemed like a nice place to study. But after reading reviews it seemed like the Hey Bae latte was the way to go, and I was not a fan at all:( I've had ube flavored things before, but idk maybe it was the combination with hazelnut, I just did not like it. I appreciated that they had different sugar variations available, as well as simple syrup to add to your coffee on your own. The pastries also looked pretty good, although I didn't try any. I just wish the menu had a little more variance.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop located right next to Seattle University in Capitol Hill. They host events downstairs too! I came here on a Sunday after attending mass on campus for some coffee and there was like a clothes swap or something downstairs so there's both seating upstairs and downstairs. While looking up reviews, I just wanted a nice latte so I got the hey bae (Ube hazelnut latte) with regular milk and iced. It was pretty good. They also have pastries to order there too. I chilled for a bit and drank my drink and it was a nice and aesthetic spot. Some parking in the streets in that area but also a pretty busy cafe.

Yelp
Anchorhead is such a solid cafe if you're looking for yummy drinks and a cute place to study!! I thought it was a small cafe at first, but there's a lot more seating downstairs if you're okay with darker lighting. I came here after my friends recommendation to get the Iced Blueberry Matcha. I was so interested because this combination is definitely something different but I was so pleasantly surprised!! Please get this you won't be disappointed! I got the 10oz for $6.50 but honestly should've upgraded to the 16oz because the price difference isn't a lot and it's that good. Honestly the wifi was a bit spotty for me when I went downstairs, and they had three different networks for some reason. Besides that, I had such a lovely experience and it was cool that they sold apparel too! I definitely want to come back and try their original drinks :)
google avatar

Yelp
This anchor head location has a lot of space to work in -- there's a basement floor with even more seating and it's next to the bakery so you can smell all the pastries. I got the nitro cold brew and while it wasn't very nitro, it didn't cost any more than the regular cold brew and it was a nice smooth drink.

Yelp
Great service from Valencia and great overall vibe here! The Blackberry Caramel Latte in particular stood out as being incredible. Look forward to coming back soon!
google avatar

Breana L.

Yelp
I heard good things about the blueberry matcha so I've always been interested in trying it out. The baristas were very kind and welcoming but I felt that the latte was not strong enough in terms of matcha, and I expected the matcha quality to be somewhat better. I did really like the blueberry syrup though. I would comeback to try a different drink next time.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and was always helped very fast. If you're not into coffee, their chai lattes are good. I really enjoy their iced coffee drink called: honey bunches of oat milk. It is a cold brew with oat milk, honey, cinnamon, and maple. I highly recommend this place. It's also a cute coffee shop to work at or just to enjoy a drink.
google avatar

Ben H.

Yelp
Anchorhead came highly recommended and it didn't disappoint. Beans are roasted on the bottom layer of the double decker coffee shop. Ordered a drip. Free refills for the win. The coffee was flavourful, fruity and bold. I added a drop of the oat/half n half to change the consistency. We ordered a couple of pastries via 2good2go. Winning.
google avatar

Hanna L.

Yelp
I got the blueberry matcha latte! The drink was good and the matcha flavor was refreshing. I do think the drink is a little too sweet.

Kayla D.

Yelp
Came in here after a hectic day of work and boy am I sure glad I did! Met a wonderful barista by the name of Izzy and it happened to be her birthday!! She was sweet, kind, and helpful with her knowledge of products which swayed into choosing the perfect coffee!!!! Ended up buying a muffin and my ONLY regret was I didn't buy two!!! These are delicious! And everything made in house!

George D.

Yelp
In my opinion, Anchorhead has the best coffee in Seattle (especially the cold brew bottles). This particular location in Cap Hill has an awesome atmosphere that fits into the neighborhood. They also have classes for learning about and trying different coffees. The service here is usually friendly, welcoming, and fast.
google avatar

Yelp
I got the Hey Bae ube latte with oat milk and it was yummy! I've been to their Pike Place location and would always get the Lavender Coconut Caramel Oat Latte and loved that, so I'm glad the ube latte at this location was delish! The interior is your quintessential Seattle industrial decor, which would be cool for college students or anyone WFH. If I were still in college, I would love to study here or just hang out with friends.
google avatar

Sara C.

Yelp
I really enjoy this coffee shop, however this might be my least favorite location (due to the overwhelming amount of teens that gather here from Seattle Academy - I don't blame the shop of this). Nonetheless, the drinks are consistently flavorful and creative. The baristas are always so nice and friendly. The interior is trendy, and I love the additional cafe space downstairs - dare I say sexy? When I want something beyond a vanilla oat milk latte, and looking for an adventurous coffee, this is where I'll go!
google avatar

Yelp
I was really looking forward to making this coffee shop a place where I'd regularly go to work in the afternoons. I just moved here from the East Coast and thought the place would be a cool place for me to relax and just work, but unfortunately I was not able to relax at all. As a biracial woman, I did feel negatively and backlash from the servers, as well as a from a couple downstairs who felt the need to eavesdrop my conversation and loudly speak about it. I believe I was racially profiled from about 4 people. I will definitely let people know about my experience. Two stars for the mocha coffee. I also give it 2 stars because I had to ask to have my overpriced muffin heated. Yeah, I'm definitely letting people know about this particular Anchorhead.

Yelp
Anchorhead Coffee is one of my favorite coffee shops in Seattle and definitely a place I recommend to folks out of town. When I found out that they opened close to my home, I just KNEW that I would become a regular here. They've been opened on 12th Ave for the past month or two and I come here at least once a week. Their specialty drinks are unique and well crafted, especially their honey bunches of cold brew (I highly recommend this). Every once in awhile I'll order a classic such as a cappuccino or americano and the drinks are thoughtfully made each time. They also offer bakery items such as croissants, cookies, and more. I've only ever had the croissant, but I thought it was just okay. This is a nice and spacious space to come to study or catch up on work. The upstairs may look misleading, but there is an entire downstairs area with additional seating. Every time I come here they are always playing really great music and it sets up the shop to be a very chill place. The baristas are friendly for the most part and although the pricing is kind of expensive, I think it's well worth it.
google avatar

Brooke A.

Yelp
I always love trying the seasonal lattes here! They usually have tasty pastries too, but they sell out fast, so I would recommend going early if he wants to try any of those! My favorite pastry, a Matcha cookie, is unfortunately seasonal, so I'm hoping they bring it back next year!
google avatar

Yelp
Sweet vibe and homey feel. Coffee smells amazing and the staff is super friendly. Unique selections. Delicious coffee.

Yelp
I absolutely love the interior of this coffee shop. Black walls, wooden furniture, some plants... Very cool! I tried their "respect your elders" $6 (as of June 2022) and it was good but I didn't taste the elderflower. In the description, it says "a whisper of elderflower" so I guess you have to have a very sensitive taste buds to taste it (: The tax is included in the price! One thing I didn't like was the website. It looks good and all but I wish the website had the current menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Good coffee, nothing amazing. It's a little pricey but it's a good coffee spot for SU students as an alternative to just going to Starbucks.
google avatar

Yelp
Such yummy coffee! I've been to Anchorhead at multiple locations and they are consistent across the board. The roast they use is so smooth yet bold at the same time. Pumpkin stuff 5/5: I love their seasonal pumpkin stuff drink. The spices mesh beautifully together and is definitely my favorite pumpkin spice drink around the area. Ginger maple 3.75/5: thought it was decent but nothing I would go back for. The ginger flavor was a little subdued for me Pistachio matcha 2/5: I also would not order their pistachio matcha again nor recommend it. The matcha was poor quality and I thought it would taste like pistachio but it was just pistachio milk. Nitro mint cold brew latte 5/5. Super fresh and yummy! I really enjoyed this drink. Overall, I would definitely recommend Anchorhead for a good variety of choices. They have something for everyone!

Samantha C.

Yelp
Excellent coffee! Love that this shop has the tried and true classics like a vanilla latte as well as more creative flavors. My favorite was the honey bunches of cold brew. The burnt honey flavor was rich and aromatic.
google avatar

Mikayla S.

Yelp
I drive from Shoreline just to get their Honey Bunches of Cold Brew, it's that good. The baristas have always been friendly, and the space itself is pretty cool. There's limited seating, so I wouldn't recommend coming here to work.
google avatar

Cardin N.

Yelp
Not sure if it's because this place is newer or if the recipe is different from the western Ave branch but my go to drink I got today was very subpar. I got a 16 oz hot latte with lavender coconut caramel syrup and oat milk. The price was 6.50 which is 50 cents higher than the western Ave branch. Not sure if the price just increased recently across all branches or if it's just this branch but that surprised me a little, not that I wouldn't pay 6.50 for this drink. I gave the western Ave a 5 star because of this go to drink and how it tastes delicious every time I get it. My first time here, ordered the same thing and it tasted flat. Literally like a flat white at Starbucks. Again, not sure if it's because it's new or different here but it likely is because not enough syrup was used so it tasted very bland. I will come back eventually and give this place another chance but for now it's a 3 star based on this experience.
google avatar

Mikayla C.

Yelp
To preface: Anchorhead is my absolute favorite coffee shop in Seattle, however this location fell flat of the high standard I've come to know at their Downtown location. I'm not sure if it's the automated espresso machines they have here or what, but the flavor is lacking. The space itself is beautiful and I enjoyed hanging out there, but my drink just tasted a lot cheaper and less rich than it normally does at their location in Downtown. Would recommend skipping this spot and going there instead.
google avatar

Caroline P.

Yelp
I like their chai quite a lot. Their pasties are tasty, too! This place is relatively new so I think there's a little bit of a learning curve for those who work here. That being said, I wish they could get my rather simple order (dirty chai with oat milk) correct on the first try. Since I'm not a morning person and am usually in a time-crunch in the morning (my bad), having to wait an extra few minutes for them to re-make my order makes me dock a star. Otherwise, great and tasty. Service here is great and friendly, so thank you :) -update- tried their pistachio matcha and it's tasty! I've never had pistachio milk but it pairs well with matcha. I guess they make their own pistachio milk? Pretty cool.

Nellie B.

Yelp
A sad thing about coffee and cafes is that there aren't many good indicators of whether a place will have good coffee or not. Sure, a trendier setup, a smaller fonted menu, a slow bar (whether functional or not), more black paint, more white paint, etc., all *promise* a better cup, but often they just mean that someone somewhere in the business was aware of coffeeshop trends. It doesn't mean the barista can competently steam milk and it doesn't mean anyone has dialed in the espresso in the past month. Anchorhead's $6 for an untested eight ounce latte is hard to muster. The result, though, shows that someone does know how to make a latte, and they work at Anchorhead. Their wi-fi's shit, their windows are big, and their latte is good.
google avatar

Mindy D.

Yelp
Anchorhead is my favorite coffee shop in the area! It is so so close to my apartment, and has awesome seating options upstairs and downstairs. I love trying their seasonal drinks, as well as their classics. The pastries here always smell so amazing, and the baristas are always very friendly. I always find myself coming back here almost every week.
google avatar

Nitaya M.

Yelp
anchorhead is my new go-to coffee spot in cap hill! the current seasonal ube hazelnut latte is delicious! try the cinnamon roll omg it's made with croissant dough, soooo good. I love the decor and the downstairs area is a perfect atmosphere to get some work done, there's usually good music playing in the background, it smells amazingly of baked goods, and baristas are super nice!

Tim H.

Yelp
The food and drink were very good and was extremely convenient being across the street and was fast. The employees were also nice
google avatar

Alianna L.

Yelp
Loved the vibe of this place but went here for coffee and wifi, and none of those things were hitting that day. Coffee was ok and expensive, wifi didn't work. Probs wouldn't go back

Sarah F.

Yelp
really nice atmosphere. They have a large tea selection. Great place to work and have a cup of coffee before class.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
The first thing you notice about this location is the quality craftsmanship that went into turning it from a dilapidated second wave shop into a mid-century modern no wave shop. The tiles on the wall specifically stand out as a masterpiece akin to Michelangelo's Sistine chapel ceiling. The coffee during my experience was nothing less than superb. Espresso traveled through the walls and ceilings and up into then out of a salmon tinted robot mouth. The robots lips were silent as the perfect 40oz shot was delivered in under 20 seconds (I stood there counting as the barista was visibly impressed with my knowledge of espresso). The baked goods were better than anything from a 6th wave bakery in Seattle or even Tacoma. I chose the decadent salted chocolate fudge brownies that required I break from my lent abstinence of salted chocolate. If I had one criticism it's that the barista appeared confused as I asked for all 7 to be stacked on a single plate. I didn't feel judged but it was close. If you're in the area please do stop by this spot. The artichoke lamp alone is worth the trip.
google avatar

Tricia E.

Yelp
Was super disappointed with my experience here. If you want Anchorhead skip this location and go to their downtown spot, parking is more difficult there but the quality difference is night and day. Only pro at this location was the friendly baristas. I wanted to try the pistacho matcha with vanilla and ordered it iced. I was shocked when they grabbed a glass of premade drink and poured it on ice for me. If I'm paying 6.50 at a fancy coffee shop for a drink I'm expecting something freshly prepared not poured from a premade mix. I would have let it slide but the taste was so disappointing, watered down, flavorless matcha with no hint of vanilla. I could subtly taste the pistachio but the drink was so watery tasting. I don't recommend this location.

Luke B.

Yelp
Love it. Awesome vibe and great great staff. Perfect place to study. One thing I will critique is that they're very wasteful. All cups are disposable and they haven't changed to any for-here reusable cups despite most other locations offering them. Also a basically minimum $7 drink in a paper cup when u want to sit down is just a underwhelming experience.
google avatar

Swetha D.

Yelp
Great coffee at a pretty standard price for the area! Was able to pretty easily find spot by the window to get some work done, but the overall place was relatively dark (since the aesthetic is mostly black)
google avatar

Beka W.

Yelp
Just popped in for a quick drink. Friendly and patient staff. I ordered the Shy Bear Fog iced, and it was absolutely delightful. Very balanced and delicious drink. I didn't want it to end! My friends ordered a chai, and that was also fantastic. The drinks definitely satisfy a craving. I will be back!

Elizabeth N.

Yelp
I've been to this location a few times and get inconsistent service. I always get the same order and depending on the barista, I get a different charge or offered an additional espresso shot. (For a 16oz triple shot latte the fourth is usually free.) Baked goods are too salty, and you have to ask them to heat it up. No offer there either. Overpriced and overrated.

Audrey M.

Yelp
The coconut and berry muffin they have right now is incredible. Pair that with the honey bunch of oats cold brew and you'll fall in love. Love going here before class

David R.

Yelp
OK, I was sufficiently well caffeinated so I popped in there and ordered a couple of mint tea. A teabag in an 8 ounce cup: $4.50. No service, had to get up and walk to the counter to retrieve it. Poor value, poor experience.
