Andrés Carne De Res feels like showing up late to a sloppy party - Review - Miami - The Infatuation

"“What happens in Andrés stays in Andrés,” whispers an adult man in red face paint and plastic devil horns. But over his shoulder, evidence points to the contrary. Pharrell’s “Get Lucky” echoes through the half-empty dining room, the projector projects no signal, and the bit of alcohol from your $24 frozen drink triggers a full-body yawn rather than a confident shimmy to the dance floor. It’s a Saturday night by the way. The famous steakhouse’s first US location fails to deliver the unhinged meat party that made Andrés’ Colombian restaurants so legendary. The Lincoln Road space is divided into three floors—each one loosely based on the afterlife. The first floor is referred to as hell, the second floor is paradise, and the rooftop, almost always empty, is heaven. photo credit: World Red Eye photo credit: World Red Eye photo credit: World Red Eye Pause Unmute If the reservation gods place you in hell, thank them. You’ll at least eat in front of a live band and maybe summon the courage to dance a little. But if, like us, your questionable morals get you in the limbo state of paradise, you'll have to gawk at a live feed of the performance below. On the walk to the table, the staff will tell you not to worry, that it’s just like being downstairs, but don’t believe them—they work for the devil. One way you can game the system here is to tell them you’re celebrating something—anything. That way, you get a Colombian welcome sash and a tablespoon of fun from the roving cajoneros and trumpeters (at no extra charge). For a moment there, it feels like the Andrés from Colombia. But the moment’s shattered as soon as the outrageous bill shows up to once again remind you that you’re on Lincoln Road, not in Zona T. video credit: Mariana Trabanino photo credit: World Red Eye photo credit: World Red Eye Pause Unmute We’ve actually been to Andrés D.C. Bogotá. The one on Lincoln Road is a mediocre imitation. Sure they have the same life-size cow sculptures, floor plan, and a respectable lomo al trapo. But only one Andrés succeeds at making hell a desirable destination. While people in the Bogotá location cumbia on tables and pound back four-ounce shots of aguardiente, the people at Andrés Miami cramp up from sitting for so long and settle for extra orders of arepa de choclo. The cheeky devil whispers lies. What actually happens in Andrés only happens if you book a flight to Colombia. The Lincoln Road version is a kind of hell, but not the fun kind. Food Rundown The Actors Firefighters put out fires, philosophers impart wisdom, and Andrés Carne De Res performers distract you from an otherwise dull dinner. PlayMute video credit: Mariana Trabanino Mandarino The frozen drink comes in a wide ceramic bowl and tastes like a watered-down version of Tampico juice. You gulp it to see if it’ll make this tepid dinner a little more interesting. Not really. PlayMute video credit: Mariana Trabanino Arepa De Choclo Con Queso Tipo Mozzarella Gratinado This cheesy arepa is the best thing on the menu, and also serves as a painful reminder of how enjoyable this restaurant actually is in Colombia. At $8, it’s also a painful reminder of how expensive South Beach is. PlayMute video credit: Mariana Trabanino Tostón Con Queso Tipo Mozzarella Gratinado Con Todo This is a good thing to order for big groups. It’s like a tostón pizza that comes with six different toppings on the side: ground beef, chicharrones, cheese, beans, guacamole, and hogao. PlayMute video credit: Mariana Trabanino Lomo Al Trapo Looking past the brutally long and awkward tableside preparation of this beef tenderloin—which involves watching the server repeatedly smack the cloth-wrapped beef—it’s very good. It also comes with three different sauces: au poivre, honey mustard, and chimichurri with parmesan. Dip each piece in all three sauces at once. PlayMute video credit: Mariana Trabanino Churrasco This is the steak your dad will complain about the entire night for being overpriced (it’s $58) and overcooked (he’s right). Stick to the lomo. PlayMute video credit: Mariana Trabanino Tres Leches Oh, you still haven’t asked for the check? Well, if you really want to stick around for dessert, this dense tres leches is a little too sweet, but it’ll do. photo credit: Mariana Trabanino" - Mariana Trabanino

Andrés Carne de Res Opens in Miami, Florida | Eater Miami

"The 10,000-square-foot space on Lincoln Road spans four floors with 400 seats, featuring a main dining room, mezzanine bar, rooftop terrace, and a dedicated takeout area; this is the brand’s first U.S. location. Eater, after visiting the original location in Chía, Colombia, in 2018, dubbed it “the only good clubstaurant in the world” following a nine-hour feast that showcased how the sprawling restaurant transforms nightly from a family dinner destination to a packed party spot. “For over 40 years, we’ve celebrated Colombian culture through food, music, and art,” Jaramillo said. The Miami menu covers lunch, dinner, and late-night dining (with takeout available) and includes classics and theatrical preparations such as lomo al trapo (beef tenderloin wrapped in cloth and charred over open flame) and chicharrón (crispy pork belly); the hamburger is layered with mozzarella, bacon, and caramelized onions (with a vegetarian patty option), and grilled meats include picanha, churrasco, and bone-in ribeye. From the seafood section: Caribbean-style shrimp ceviche served with fried green plantains and shrimp encocado (coconut-braised shrimp) over coconut rice; traditional items like arepas and empanadas appear throughout, and a children’s section offers simpler dishes including chicken or beef spaghetti and ajiaquito (potato soup). Like its Colombian counterparts, the Miami location is filled with stilt walkers, live music ranging from cumbia to salsa, and impromptu dance performances during service, and the interior features design elements from Colombian artisans, including hand-painted murals, colorful plates, and metalwork accents. Founded in 1982 by Andrés Jaramillo and María Stella Ramirez as a tiny roadside spot in Chía, the restaurant expanded over four decades to locations across Colombia (Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena) and earned a spot on the 50 Best Restaurants guide as one of Latin America’s notable dining destinations. The Miami outpost also includes an on-site gift shop selling Colombian items — jewelry, pottery, and textiles — and is open at 455 Lincoln Road from Sunday through Wednesday from noon to 11 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from noon to 2 a.m.; reservations are available." - Olee Fowler

Google
From the outside it already looks inviting, but once inside it’s even more impressive. The colorful decorations, the sound of live music, and the smell of great food hit you all at once. The staff were quick to seat us and took great care of our table. The food was flavorful and full of authentic Colombian spices. It’s a Miami Beach gem that I’ll definitely come back to!

Everything was great. The quality of the food, the music, both live and DJ. The setting is beautiful and now feels like a true outpost of the Colombian original. A special thanks to Manuela who’s warmth, attentiveness, non intrusive care and smile made us feel at home.

Google
The live band was incredible and kept everyone entertained the whole night. It made the restaurant feel alive and full of positive energy. Our server was attentive, always checking in at the right time without interrupting. The food was delicious, especially the Colombian plates that tasted homemade. I’ll be telling all my friends about this place!

Google
Wow! Food was soooo good! We tried the steak, lomo al trapo, chicharron, arepa de choclo, ceviche, papa criolla and french fries. Everything was very very good. The place is very beautiful, so many colorful decorations everywhere, everything so unique as well. The music is good, the vibe is very nice. Service was very good too, everyone was very friendly and happy. Waiters were always checking on us, making sure we all have what we need. If you like Aguardiente, or would like to try it, they have it! Going there is an experience!

Google
I think that the food is good but rates for what is received is not great. Food was good but it could have been better. Service was great just a bit slow on it as the place was not busy. But overall it was ok. Wouldn’t come back for food but for the mint lemonade yes

The atmosphere at Andrés Carne de Res is like no other. The music makes the space feel like a constant celebration, while the staff keeps everything running smoothly. The Colombian flavors in the dishes were strong, authentic, and comforting. I especially loved the grilled meats and the sides that came with them. It’s a place that leaves you wanting more!

I recently celebrated my birthday at Andrés Carne de Res, and I can't thank our server, Daniela, enough for making the occasion truly special! From the moment we arrived, Daniela's warm and welcoming personality set the tone for a fantastic evening. She was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure that my family and I had everything we needed. Not only did she provide excellent service, but her recommendations for food and drinks were spot on. The atmosphere was vibrant, and Daniela's enthusiasm added to the overall experience. Thanks to her, we made wonderful memories that we will cherish for years to come. If you're planning a visit to Andrés Carne de Res, be sure to ask for Daniela. She truly made my birthday celebration unforgettable. Thank you, Daniela!

Google
I was so very excited to find this location in Miami after having the best experience at the one in Bogota. The food, the service, the atmosphere just everything is amazing. Authentic Colombian. I highly recommend it. I have celiac and they were absolutely accommodating. Laura and Sebastian and all the staff make you feel like family. 5 stars!

Yelp
Outstanding!! Must Go! What an experience-the food from fish to steak just exquisite!!! The meat was so tender it melted in your mouth -the fish was so fresh you ll think they just caught it!! The appetizers were unique with a beautiful presentation! The drinks were on another level-mojitos, Moscow mule and margaritas have to come and try them! Ambiance will leave you in awe! You'll feel like you are in Colombia/South America /so festive with costumes, dancers, show just spectacular! Excellent way to spend an evening!! Service was just what you would expect-from a 5 star restaurant- professional to the nth degree Just go!! Our new favorite restaurant!!! Want to try everything on the menu!

Yelp
Food is amazing . Ambiance is great and somehow there is always beautiful women there, a lot of them .... Music is great , I like the upstairs better personally but first floor is great too. Great service .

Yelp
Not a good lunch spot. The prices are EXTREME for the type of food and flavor provided. I ordered a $28 chicken soup that looked elaborate on the menu. But when I received it, I was quite disappointed (photo attached). It was just a typical chicken soup with flavorless Florida avocado (not Haas). The flavor was clean but super basic like your non-professional grandma whipped it up. This meal should be priced at $15 max, all things considered. On the other hand, the decor and ambience is really great. It's probably a fun place at night with the live show. But I will not be returning in any case. SUMMARY: I don't think SoBe locals will support this new spot due to its high price to low food sophistication ratio. The tourists will be the main customer base, so I wish the restaurant good luck. The staff are very nice. Best wishes....

Yelp
Went an opening night, so giving the service and the servers some slack that even though the kitchen was slow, the food was incredible. We tried the empanadas and some of the steaks and everything was flavorful and hot. The drinks were OK but now I wanna go back and try the frozen ones. For sure, the highlight was the band playing music live. I think this place is going to end up being more of a party than a restaurant. Pro tip for this location park a block away behind the H&M and the Starbucks on Lincoln Road .

Yelp
Good food, ambiance was okay. Service was great. I think in comparison to the original Andres Carne de Res, this falls short in many ways.

Yelp
I took my bf to Andrés Carne de Res because he really liked this restaurant when he used to live in Bogotá. Making a reservation for 6pm was easy on the Open Table app. We wanted to avoid the Art Basel crowd. We arrived at 15 mins and were quickly sat. The restaurant wasn't too busy, and there were plenty of servers. I reminded the hostess that I had put on our reservation that it was my bf's birthday. I asked if they do anything special for birthdays and she assured me they do. The interior of the restaurant is gaudy and kitschy in a way tourists and people celebrating a special occasion seem to like. There was no live entertainment when I was there, so I can't speak to that. The expensive menu has a wide selection of foods to satisfy many palates. The cocktail menu is pretty boring, with your typical drinks, nothing special. My bf was disappointed that they didn't have their lulo cocktail from the Bogotá restaurant. Seems like a missed opportunity for a signature cocktail. Service was terrible. Drinks and food took forever. It took 20 mins for a slice of key lime pie! Mind you, this is still pretty early in the night. I can't imagine how poor the service is when they're actually busy. It was often difficult to find our server, and at the end, she completely disappeared. Another server had to bring our check. The star of the meal was the ceviche de pescado. It was absolutely delicious. The lomo de trapo steak was fine. Our server insisted that it can only be ordered medium. It arrived medium rare. Fortunately, that is how we prefer steak. The sauces that came with it were mediocre. The most annoying part was that no one acknowledged my bf's birthday. Yes, he was relieved, but after putting on the reservation that it was his birthday and speaking to the hostess about it, it was frustrating to be ignored. Overall, I feel like there are restaurants that offer better food, drinks, and service in South Beach. I don't see myself returning.

Yelp
Let me start with the Positive... The only thing this place has going for it is the ambiance and the staff. It's beautiful inside. Fun, whimsical they even have performer walking around pretending to be an animal and engaging with the tables. Wacky but cute... But the food, was not it! The staff was welcoming and friendly. The prices are obscene for Colombian food you can get just about anywhere in Miami for a fraction of the cost. I mean guy, $16 for a shot of GUARO??? NOPE ‍ The food was just meh. The presentation was nothing special. Their sauces were just ok. We ordered some of the appetizers: the chicharron (this was actually well cooked), yuca frita, empanadas (didn't feel homemade). Again all things that shouldn't be expensive and were just Ok. Really wanted to like this place but I just can't stomach the cost! Sorry! Won't be coming back

Yelp
This is one of my top restaurants from Colombia, so I couldn't resist trying it in Miami. Our experience was fantastic! My waitress, Mercedes, was exceptional, especially with our group of nine as we ordered nearly every dish on the menu. The morcilla, patacón con queso, lomo al trapo, empanadas, and mandarino--oh my goodness, everything was absolutely mouthwatering. I will definitely be back to sample the other delicious offerings they have; it's a must-visit!

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant and menu but when you are hiring chefs at least should know the pay rate, interview was a waste of time
google avatar

Stephanie A.

Yelp
Besides the restaurant being EXTREMELY overpriced, after ordering 6 different meats, they were all overcooked. The service lacked tremendously as well. DJ Danny was playing music for himself and not great.

Yelp
Don't come expecting the same type of place and experience that one gets in Colombia and you'll have a great time. Good selection of cocktails and a pretty extensive menu. If you're a fan of espresso martinis, skip that and order the carajillo especially if you've never had that before. Meats wise, you can't go wrong but if you're going with a group, the tomahawk is the way to go. And all the sides and appetizers are amazing. It's a fairly small place- all the dining and entertainment is in one room, pretty crowded and chaotic (took like 30 minutes for my cocktail to arrive and had to remind them a couple of times) but all in all, super fun, lively and worth it. The majority of the music is Hispanic and it's loud in there (at least for dinner) so just be prepared for a lot of that. They have these dancing cats who engage with the crowd and are hilarious!

Karina V.

Yelp
As a long time fan of this place, I have been to most in Colombia, It's so unfortunate that I had to experience such level of rudeness from the host (some guy was not able to catch his name) outside. We were in the area and decided to stop by. It was 6:20pm we wanted to order a drink just to see it at stand at the bar if necessary, and they denied us entry. Told us no we needed a reservation, even the bar was "full" ( see picture idk if that proves how full it was lol). He mentioned the reservations at 7pm would be arriving soon although we told them we were still 40 minutes away and we were willing to leave whenever those arrived. They don't even have a wait list!... I guess they booming and the entitlement is real when you move across the board. Such a shame, you would think as a new establishment they would be welcoming and flexible but the way they spoke to us and others who approached was very distasteful. As a local trying to enjoy this new establishment I am very disappointed.

Yelp
Came in to celebrate 2 of my best friends' bdays, We were greeted by Manuel, Daniel and our waitress Rosemary. The service and food were BEYOND EXCELLENT!! The ambiance is so fun, cordial and welcoming that we felt like at home. Would give it 6 stars if possible. recommended

Amelia C.

Yelp
So much fun! I couldn't get in to the 1 in Cartagena coz it was too packed. So glad they finally open in Miami so I got to experience it. Great talents with the live band and dancers. Delicious Colombian food and great cocktails. Come and visit!

Isabella C.

Yelp
Amazing experience. Food was incredible, atmosphere is unique and Sebastian was an absolutely incredible waiter. 10/10 would come back.

Elisa A.

Yelp
Birthday disaster. After informing us to arrive early with entire party in order to be seated on time - we did have a large group so we all arrived 30 minutes early - we were still made to wait 1 hour past our reservation time (total 1.5 hr wait). Starving. We were not allowed to wait at bar. Waitress was not so friendly but the guy that seated us did offer everyone a free drink for the wait. The ambiance is otherwise good. The show is not worth it. Neither is the $40 chicken. Also, staff should inform you when a dish will take significantly longer than the rest of the food so you don't end up eating when everyone else has finished.

Yelp
We are familiar with the restaurant in Bogota and Chia., and the service and food is exceptional. However, we have visited the restaurant here in Lincoln Rd. 3 times , our last time was in December for my office party and I cannot say the same! The management has the wrong attitude, not servers, they are friendly and helpful! Making a reservation is a mission if you call , make it on Open Table and its fine. Now onto the reservation, we always ask to be seated in the first floor so we can enjoy the entertainment and band. They always want to sit you upstairs even with plenty tables available downstairs. They feel they have the best restaurant in Lincoln Rd when they are competing against Mila and ORO with much better food and ambience. Even making a special request they tell you they do not have availability. The day of our office party we were there until 11:00 pm and there were plenty of tables available where we wanted to sit and the manager said they were reserved! For Whom? Not planning to go there again! Miami is not the place to have this kind of attitude when there are plenty of places better! That being said.... Fun, It is! The band plays great latin music, great to dance and you will have a good time if you get to sit in the right place. Drinks, skinny Paloma is pretty good, Food, The Wrapped meat is excellent., do not ask for the big toston, it is like a huge pizza but nothing like a real good Italian pizza. Make your reservations late if you really want to try Andres Carne de Res Lincoln Rd because the band starts at 9:00 on weekdays and Friday -Sunday it starts at 10:00 pm. Hope this review helps!

Angela G.

Yelp
The food was straight-up mediocre. The ajiaco was cold and tasteless. The mojitos were absolutely bland and weak. Don't come here thinking you're going to have the blast you may have had at the one in Colombia. It does not compare at all. I was very disappointed.

Fera D.

Yelp
Bad service. Came less than an hour and was told that I could sit in the bar with my friends and to come back. When we came back 30 minutes later they told us there is no bar sitting and that they only take reservations. Very disappointed when host couldn't help us and then someone else said yeah we never do open sitting only reservation. They didn't even try to accommodate or help us with sitting. They said yes we said for you to come back but now we can't sit you. It was our last day in Miami and we were highly recommended. I wouldn't come here specially now after reading how bad customer service is here.

Andres D.

Yelp
service was really bad. The servers should be on top of their table. We ordered a bunch of food. some items came wrong. he did not check with us how everything went. The steak came to the table totally wrong. we ordered drinks as well and he forgot to ring it in. there should be a floor manager checking the tables and the service. Atmosphere is great. Hostesses did a great job. it's just the server who is totally clueless. its so sad for the place. I wanted them to do good. I love both of the Bogota places. food was good. I rather travel to Colombia and enjoy it there instead. Some of the entertaining crew are really fun and made it better.

Yelp

Matthew Y.

Yelp
As a local I wanted to like this place. Let me start with the atmosphere is what you'd expect, fun and a nice staff. But it's impossible to get past the pricing ! A 6oz hamburger is $34!! We had 2 hamburgers, 2 orders of corn (we didn't eat because apparently Columbian corn is nothing like American corn, so chewey) 3 $4 empanadas and 2 cokes. The bill with service charge and taxes was $160!! Unbelievable. Unfortunately it is just not worth the prices for average food.
google avatar

Reinaldo R.

Yelp
Excellent to have fun!! In Colombia it's reasonably price. But here be prepared to spend some money. Pricing is on the very high side!

Carlos M.

Yelp

Mark R.

Yelp
Having experienced the restaurant in Bogota and Cartagena, we were very pleased with our experience here in Miami. The food was excellent, service friendly, accurate and always attentive. Recommended without reservation. On the part of reservation, make it before you go, it is bound to get busier and busier.

Marie B.

Yelp
Host and manager rude. Didn't feel welcomed..These people think we are in Colombia. It's a different market. I hope they understand that. Just because they were full last night doesn't mean it will stay that way.
