"There are few more charming experiences than seeing how dutifully the city’s west side residents flock to snowy plover-laden Andytown Coffee. The business’s original location was under remodel, a huge West Belfast sign entering the cafe’s new look when it reopened in fall 2023. Importantly, Andytown’s beans are back on track at that first shop, too. While It’s-It affogatos pull in surfers further north, the Lawton Street team are pulling punchy Guatemalan shots of espresso just like the old days." - Paolo Bicchieri
"Andytown’s Great Highway outpost hit the jackpot in the beachside real estate market—the Richmond cafe is just steps away from the beach, and the floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light (they also have locations in SoMa and the Sunset). The welcoming spot is home to strong espresso, plants hanging everywhere, and a TV playing surfing competitions or otter live streams overhead. We like to spend a slow morning here with a brown sugar latte and one of their excellent pastries before heading down to Ocean Beach to play fetch with an overexcited dog or take a windy seaside stroll." - julia chen 1, lani conway, ricky rodriguez, patrick wong
"Andytown has outposts around the city, but the Great Highway location is perfect for trips to Ocean Beach and Golden Gate Park (assuming you’re starting/ending on the west end of the park). Peruse the surfboards and Andytown merch while you’re in the store, and if sparkling iced coffee sounds like a treat, order the Original Bird, which combines espresso with sparkling water, brown sugar syrup, and whipped cream made in-house (there is a matcha version, as well). There’s also a “Not Coffee” section of the menu if you’re looking to keep things on the caffeine-free side." - Justine Jones
"There are a bunch of Andytowns throughout the city, but the Ocean Beach location is the only one where you won’t have to keep a timer as your parking meter ticks down. This location is housed at the bottom of an apartment complex facing the water and has a big (albeit sandy) parking lot available right off the Great Highway. Suggest Andytown for a coffee date with a parallel-parking challenged friend, or a meeting point for a pastry and caffeine-fueled seaside stroll. " - julia chen 1
"San Francisco is bursting with coffee shops, but for a local iced coffee treat that hasn’t quite gone nationwide — Philz Mint Mojito, we’re looking at you — instead try Andytown Coffee’s Snowy Plovers. As the menu (accurately) describes, the Original Bird Snowy Plover is essentially an “espresso cream soda” with espresso poured over sparkling water and ice, with brown sugar syrup and house-made whipped cream on top. The Plover line has also expanded to include a Matcha Plover in case that’s more your speed, and the Great Highway location is perfect for walking Ocean Beach, coffee in hand." - Lauren Saria
