General Election 2019 | Where to Eat When Canvassing in Chipping Barnet - Eater London

"Every person who grew up in Whetsone was taken to Al Fresco or Angelo’s as a child where their love of British-Italian food was cultivated. Angelo’s is like a cosier, less raucous Ciao Bella, a restaurant of the Primi-Pizza-Pasta-Pesce-Carne-Dolce variety where the chequered table cloths match the curtains. It may be a time warp completely immune to trends but it’s an enjoyable one nonetheless." - Jonathan Nunn

We had a party of 26 for lunch , they shut the restaurant for only us. The owners were so accommodating when we went there 5 days before to discuss menu choices etc. The food was absolutely 1st class, everyone's food was perfectly cooked, presented and piping hot. We chose this venue for my fathers 'Celebration of his life' for just family and very close friends, it was just what my father would have liked, old school type Italian restaurant, fantastic food over all 3 courses and superb Service. Highly recommend ...

Don't let the front decor mislead you. It may look like a transport cafe, but you should take this as more of a statement that they don't need to use cheap tricks to get you to come. The atmosphere is wonderfully friendly and homely. The food is great and reasonably priced. The staff make you feel at home, in fact it feels like you have gatecrashed a family gathering. The only criticism I can make is because they don't employ a brigade of staff they can be a tiny bit slow when it gets busy. However, we were having such a nice time it did not matter.

Lovely service, lovely food, lively atmosphere. A very comfortable and cozy place that makes you look forward to coming again. We've been a few times and recommend trying this quality restaurant!

I have been coming here more than 25 years perhaps since 1990. The food is authentic always fresh and the service warm and truly personal. I love the homely individual decor, dated indeed, atmospheric Italian with a touch of London!

Delicious food and sUch a warm and friendly welcome. The hosts chat with all of their customers, whether it’s your first time there (like us) or you’re a regular (like some of the other customers in the restaurant). This is a real gem. Thank you for a wonderful, tasty, relaxed evening!

Great time there. All the staff were really nice and we had good service. Food was pretty on time as you'd expect, and it was all great! Even though the portion sizes might be a bit too big for me to handle.

Great little restuarant. Not big but it proves big is not always best.,Very nice menu,if you don't like Italian you could be in trouble. Spag Bowl is the thing to die for,I have had it in many restuarants and very exclusive hotels and this one is up with the best. So much to choose you are spoilt, very honest and down to earth, service was excelent ,cant wait to find an excuse to go back.

Yelp
This place is run by a husband and wife team - Rocco's in the kitchen preparing the delicious Italian food served here and Carmella is at front of house chatting to and charming all the dinner guests. You don't get better homely Italian food than what is served here and Carmella is a lovely, friendly woman. I love coming to this place - it always makes for a great evening.

Yelp
Angelos is a small narrow outwardly unassuming establishment on the High Road Whetstone, near the Esso Garage. But step inside and you will be overwhelmed with the the effusive friendliness of Carmella who runs the front of house like a typical Italian mother, wanting an update on all your family news and likewise bringing you up to speed with hers. Meantime husband Rocco is cooking the most delicious food in his tiny kitchen, whilst various other family members are roped in to help serve. Unfortunately I just so love their Scaloppa Milanese -Veal in breadcrumbs - (and never have anything else!) that I cannot speak for the remainder of the menu which includes many other veal varieties and a huge selection of pastas. I always have Minestone soup as a starter, but yesterday my son had Bianchetti Fritti (fried whitebait) which he said was fantastic (and served in such huge quantity that it could have been a main meal). He also had Linguine Lobster which as a cookery fan he said was truly delicious. Prices are reasonable, but the taste and quality of the food is up there with the best - go try it! It's the secret gem of the Barnet/Finchley area.
