Cesarina Team Opening Point Loma Pizzeria - Eater San Diego

"The pizzeria, named after Cesarina co-owner Niccolo Angius’s father, will feature a menu revolving around classic pizza Napoletana, with vegan and gluten-free options. Angelo will also have a cheese factory on display making mozzarella, burrata, and caciocavallo. The restaurant is inspired by Italy’s Amalfi Coast and is expected to be completed by late 2021." - Candice Woo

Google
We are from Oregon, and were looking for a good Italian restaurant for lunch. This place had a number of very good reviews, so we gave it a try. I ordered mizithra cheese with browned butter and meat sauce combo, as well as a Greek salad. My partner ordered the spaghetti with marinara and veggie meatballs. The Greek salad was wonderful. Fresh, generous portions of everything. We both enjoyed the salad! The portions are very generous, as you can see from the photos. Unfortunately, the taste was disappointing. First off, there was no meat in the meat sauce (I’m guessing they accidentally gave me marinara). Second, there was no browned butter in the mizithra pasta, so the dish was inedible. The pasta was served with garlic rolls, which looked delicious. They were not. They were bland, slightly undercooked, and what should have been olive oil was definitely not olive oil. It was clear and flavorless.

This Greek restaurant is a hidden gem! From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel like we were part of the family. The food was beyond amazing— the moussaka was rich and savory, and the tzatziki was perfect. The ambiance was charming, with lovely lighting and an inviting atmosphere that made us feel like we were in Greece. It’s a wonderful spot to unwind and indulge in authentic Greek cuisine. I’ll definitely be back for more, and I can’t wait to try more dishes from their menu!

I had an exceptional experience at Angelo's in Loma Linda. The food surpassed all expectations, and the hospitality was extraordinary. Visiting from Alberta, Canada, this recommendation from family friends for a date night supper turned out to be a highlight. Undoubtedly the best Mediterranean meal I've ever had. The Shawarma Fries with garlic sauce, veg turkey sandwich, Shawarwrap combo, and mint lemonade are must-tries. Leaving with a heart full of memories, Angelo's has claimed a special place in my culinary affection. Will unquestionably revisit on my next trip to Loma Linda, California.

Google
I've had the pastrami sandwich and the gyro pita. Both were delicious. Tzatziki sauce was tangy and the pastrami was melt in your mouth amazing. This is my new spot when I'm in Loma Linda.

Google
I never come here again. Got the pastrami hardly any meat ALL bread! Must be new owner! So sad because when my dad was here he worked at the veterans hospital and would go there for lunch and loved the pastrami. And the man new my dad by his order. This place is like any other place these days....cutting cost.

Oh my my! Where have you been. Recommended from a friend. I wish they would have told about Angelo's years ago. This is no fast food. This is like your Italian mom said shut up and sit down I'm going to make you something to eat as a tear drips from your eye out of happiness. You HAVE to experience the five star hospitality, the perfectly sauteed meets. Everything was so fresh. As if they had a garden in the back. Wow! The pastrami sandwich was the freshest and tastiest pastrami I have had in years. This will be a regular place of ours. The owner and crew are like family. You must try this amazingly delicious authentic Italian restaurant.

Yelp
I love the sandwiches from Angelo's turkey avocado on squaw bread is my favorite. The service is great and the restaurant has undergone a new look. "Try the spaghetti with the garlic Knots"

Yelp
You know....i like Najwa's...but the Italian side of the menu, I'm questioning after my spaghetti and meatballs experience. Sorry to say, but it is by far the worst spaghetti and meatballs I've had in my life. I think the meat is barely equivalent to the taste you get from a Chef Boyardee meatball. The sauce...I think Prego is better. They definitely are not making it in house...and if they are...idk, play around with spices or something because it needs serious help. I love the service but they should just quit the Italian side of things and just make it all Mediterranean because it's simply not happening with the Italian food. Only reason I paid for it was because my kids had some.

Yelp
Excellent food, at an affordable price. If you like Mediterranean, Italian food go here. Yes it's that good. Yes the customer service is good.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a nice lowkey deli/restaurant that serves up good sandwiches and Mediterranean food. It's kinda two restaurants in one so don't be confused when you walk in and see two names. So I opted for a nice pastrami sandwich and they certainly do not skimp. You'll get a whole lot of pastrami and mac salad so eat to your heart's content. Nothing much more to it. This is a good place for a quick lunch.

Eddie M.

Yelp
Best place in Loma Linda! Food is consistently great! Everyone there is friendly and will gladly help you with any questions on the menu. Try the mint lemonade, it's fresh and not too sweet.

Yelp
I found Angelo's through Yelp and decided to give it a try. I love the restaurant because it has a home-like feel to it. It's very clean and orderly not to mention spacious. I even love the beautiful patio setting. The restroom was beautiful as well and very clean. I also love the fact that they have a small private room for customers that arrive in a group. The decor on the wall made it inviting as well. The service is very efficient and professional. My hubby and I were served by Sergio. He was very accommodating and welcoming. What I didn't realize was both Najwas and Angelo's are literally the same restaurant. I think that's quite talented and creative to serve both Mediterranean and Italian under the same roof. Seeing that's the case, I couldn't make up my mind what I really wanted. Italian is my go-to and I love Mediterranean so we decided to get a plate from both restaurants. The spaghetti was wonderful and so was the garlic bread. What puzzled me though is the oil that the garlic bread was sitting in and a little bit of the same oil was under the pasta. I wasn't sure if it was olive oil or not but it's sort of turned me off a bit. I'm not sure I will order any more pasta unless somehow I can order it dry. In the other hand the Mediterranean food had so much flavor. I have been to various establishments but the meat has never been full of flavor and tender, hummus was full of flavor and the salad was quite fresh. I also ordered some baklava. It was okay. I wasn't quite happy with the portion size at all, So I figured maybe you're paying for how good it taste. I would definitely return for more Mediterranean but I'll also keep in mind to order two plates instead of one for a decent size portion.

Yelp
Food is very consistent with freshness and flavor and quantities. Service is always fast and friendly. Ambiance is clean and comfortable.

Stephanie W.

Yelp
The food is so tasty and the portions are huge! We had the chicken shawarma and gyro plates - delicious! The prices are reasonable and the service is excellent. Our new favorite restaurant in Redlands! We will come back often.

Yelp
We wanted to like this place but it just wasn't a great sandwich . I ordered the Turkey and my husband went with the meatball . The grinder roll is just very heavy on bread and the sandwich overall lacks in any flavor . The meatball was decent but it didn't come toasted . The macaroni salad was very heavily mayonnaise based.

Darlene M.

Yelp
You did not fix the buns...hard and tough to chew inedible again. The spaghetti sauce is in chunks like tomato paste. I have been coming since 1988. I was 8 years old I am now about to be 45. I left a review each year trying it again to have you go back to your old bun recipe and I won't come again and it makes me so sad.

Yelp
Still love this place! I like that Nanjwa's is here too and kept Angelo's! My sister got the spaghetti and she said it still good. I've had it 1-2 months ago and it was still good! I did have the half and half and at that time it was mizithra cheese so not sure if they really did change it to Parmesan as one other reviewer posted. I'd still come here. The only thing I'm sad about is they don't give you the same amount of garlic rolls, it's less now :( also the shawarma fries are pretty good, but because they use seasoned curly fries you need to ask for more tzatziki sauce. The seasoning of the Shawarma and the curly fries is pretty overpowering. I did suggest that they should use regular fries because me and my sister both think it would be much better.

Yelp
I love supporting mom and pop shops but the food here was just not up to par. I ordered the half turkey avocado sandwich with everything on it (cheese, lettuce, onion, mayo) on sourdough. It tasted like the most plain sandwich made with basic old ingredients from a vending machine. The bread was a little stale, the turkey was dry, there was barely a dab of mayo and they forgot the avocado so I had to go ask for it (lucky we dined in). And a half sandwich was about $10?!? The only saving grace was the macaroni salad, which tasted like it came out of a giant plastic container from the supermarket but hey, I like that taste LOL.

Yelp
I do not know what happened! My favorite spaghetti is so different. I usually get half and half. If you frequent Angelo's you know that is spaghetti, half with sauce and half with myzithra cheese. I usually get mariners and cheese, but today my wonderful husband got me meat sauce and cheese. It does not even look the same. The cheese is no longer shredded, it is powdered. Dry and powdered. No thank you. What happened to the cheese? It was great and unique. Now it's dry & powdered. Honestly, why would you get rid of a popular unique tasty product?

Yelp
I made a reservation for a group of 10 at 5:00 and there ended up being only five of us. They were very accommodating and placed us in the back which is a private area. We had a variety of food and it was all good. The waiter gave us separate checks and we had a great experience.

Sara Y.

Yelp
We have been coming here for over 30 years. It's a unique Italian place with all its own recipes. I recommend the spaghetti with meat sauce and mizithra, along with the turkey salad sandwich. The only thing I do miss is the vegetable bar they had before the remodel. I also love that you can now get Mediterranean food at the same time. You can even cater both on the same day. Everyone was so friendly there and gave great suggestions as to the new menu items.
google avatar

Yelp
What happened to this place?? I used to loved their food but ew. The Mac salad, which was AHMAZING, is very much not anymore. The turkey on squaw was disappointing too. The only thing that still tastes the same is their garlic rolls. I'm so sad!!
google avatar

Yelp
Angelos food just a little subpar compared to OG, but Najwa's food is great but very pricey
google avatar

Yelp
I used to come here all the time from 2018 to 2022, but after the new ownership, this place isn't the same anymore.
google avatar

Laura D.

Yelp
I was torn should I order one of their amazing looking sandwiches? Their Italian offerings looked good. Their Mediterranean dishes looked fantastic. In the end I did a combo. Appetizers of Feta Fingers and Grape Leaves and a Mizithra cheese spaghetti and a Ruben to go! My dining companions Gyro and Beef Sandwich looked delicious. I did share my appetizers in case you were wondering

Yelp
I've been coming here since I was a kid and this place is not the same (in a bad way). I heard the ownership changed during the pandemic and wanted to give them a chance. Apparently Angelo's shares the space with Najwa's which specializes in Mediterranean food. So when you walk in you'll see both menus and Najwa's has a much bigger menu. The Angelo's menu looked about the same as it always has. Pasta, sandwiches, subs, chips, sides, etc. Nothing crazy. I ordered the classic spaghetti with mizithra cheese which was my go to order growing up. The pasta sauce tasted like it was straight out of a can, the spaghetti was overcooked and mushy, and the mizithra cheese was the biggest disappointment of all. No joke the cheese was old, tasteless, and powdery. It was finer than dried parmesan cheese!! I took a bite in my car and the A/C blew the cheese all over my car. Not sure why they changed the cheese but the difference is night and day! The cheese used to be fresh and shredded not this tasteless ground up shelf stable nonsense. Each pasta plate was $15+ bucks and a massive waste of money since it was inedible. I ended up tossing it! Two stars b/c the staff was kind of nice and was trying their best, even though my takeout order of 3 items took about 45 minutes. Given their incredibly limited hours (11-4 mon-fri) and disappointing food, I'm not sure this place will survive. I hope they bring back the original Angelo's recipes but I'm not holding my breath. Long story short don't come here if you remember the original Angelo's. You'll be massively disappointed!

Yelp
We've been coming to Angelo's for years! Grew up on their food while my parents worked at the hospital, and I gained more appreciation for this local spot when I moved back after college. They've kept the same menu all of these years, despite having new ownership take over. Some of our staple items are the spaghetti and garlic rolls, their veggie turkey sandwich, and their turkey salad sandwich. We love that there are lots of options to choose from, and you can customize the sandwiches. We have noticed that the quality and portion sizes have changed with the new ownership, but overall we still love coming here. The portions are still generous for their prices and the quality is good. Staff is welcoming and do their best to fair with the influx of the lunch crowds that pull through here.
google avatar

Charles L.

Yelp
Still a really good value, I got the full order of spaghetti and meatballs and had enough for 2 days. The garlic bread that came with the meal are excellent, the sandwiches are the best, great selection. Alas the veggies bar is gone probably due to Covid but I miss it. My order came out quickly even at the lunch rush. It's a quiet little gem in Loma Linda, always a great choice

Kim A.

Yelp
Disappointed in the mizithra spaghetti with meat sauce. Usually mizithra is strong, a little salty, this had no flavor. Even when mixed with the meat sauce it was very bland. My friend ordered a turkey sandwich and said it was great, that's why I gave 3 stars. Just the pasta it would've been 1 star! I won't order the pasta again!

Michael L.

Yelp
Went here and got a hamburger was told it was like a place that I love called Steve's burgers. It was nothing like it. I didn't like the hamburger I didn't like the food and they were very slow even though there was only me my wife and two other couples in there, I wouldn't recommend this place
google avatar

Yelp
I first heard about Angelo's when my wife came home one day raving about this luncheon she had with incredible sandwiches, Mac salad, and vegetables. It would be a few years later that I would actually be able to try it myself given that they are closed on the weekends. This opportunity presented itself when I decided to celebrate a successful presentation on a weekday night. I really wanted to eat good Mac salad, and my wife brought up Angelo's. Our order for the entire household was as follows: - Roast beef on rye - regular - Pastrami on squaw - large - Meatball on grinder roll - large - Spaghetti with meatballs - large - Kids spaghetti - Side of Mac salad The bread with the sandwiches varies from rye, sourdough, squaw, and grinder roll. Every offer comes with a side of Mac salad and a vegetable bar. Apparently one can choose the vegetables to accompany the sandwich which ranges from pickles, beets, and carrots. The best item would have to be the pastrami sandwich. It took me back to New York as if I was dining at the famous Katz's Deli. The meatball sandwich was also really delectable with large sized meatballs (available in vegan form) sauced perfectly in marinara sauce; it made for a very messy meal. The crispiness of the fresh vegetables and creaminess if the macaroni salad paired really nicely with all the sandwiches. My wife and I were really scared that our two year old daughter would not eat her spaghetti but she quickly finished half a serving and asked for more! She even had some of my father-in-law's perfectly greasy, garlicky, garlic rolls which came with his spaghetti entree. I really wish that they were open on the weekends so that we could eat here more often (we often eat out on the weekends), but Angelo's will be a special treat on any weekday!

Yelp
First of all, NEW OWNERS, so instead of deleting my review, I'm going to write a new one. The original owners sold the shop in December 2021. We really wanted to give the new owners a shot, so we waited until today to place an order. We figured 3 weeks was enough to roll out the kinks of running a new business. Bread was dry, Everything fell apart. Portions way smaller. Asked for both sandwiches dry and both came with extra sauce. Pastrami was not warm. Asked for no lettuce in the pastrami and they gave extra lettuce Pretty much everything tasted different and wrong. Mac salad was bland and terrible. My boyfriend has been eating here for the last 20 years and this is the first time there has been an issue. I tossed the Mac salad which is rare because I usually love their Mac salad. We will not be returning for a long time. Sad to see such a beloved Loma linda stable to be gone

Faye V.

Yelp
I have always liked Angelo's. Now it has merged with Mediterranean foods which is cool with me. The last time I was here I ordered the spaghetti with Mizithra with well-buttered rolls. I can't complain. The serving is always more than I can finish. Leftover is for the next meal. Yaayy.
google avatar

Jayme J.

Yelp
This is my 9 year old son's favorite place to eat. He asks at least 5 times a week to get Angelo's! The food is always yummy and the staff is awesome and friendly.

Yelp
please bring back the old spaghetti and bread this used to be my favourite meal in the entire world and it has changed so so much that i don't come here anymore

Yelp
Love the Mediterranean menu. There are vegetarian options. Veggie chicken shawarma is delicious.

Yelp
Been coming here since I was a kid. First time here since the change of ownership... the inside looks a LOT better! Staff are kind and helpful! Food is good! Will be back again!

Yelp
I have been coming here for 4 years and I absolutely love it. Their food is absolutely delicious. I have had their spaghetti with myzithira cheese and garlic rolls. It is sooooo good. I also like to order their turkey salad sandwich On squaw bread. It is sooooo good as well. And the lady that is always here (Brenda) is extremely kind, always helpful with whatever you need. I have never came to bad service, they are all so sweet here. I also like that everything is always clean, it never smells bad like other take out spots. Defined coming back again! Thank you all

Yelp
If you've lived in Loma Linda or Redlands area, you would know about this little spot called Angelo's. After I moved away for years, I had a chance to visit Angelo's again. Last time I came to Angelo's, they didn't have outside dining, the inside dining room was smaller, and they had, if I remember correctly, a salad buffet. So, yes, it has definitely been a while. I remember it as having one of the most delicious, homemade, pasta sauce, and the greatest garlic bread (balls) I've ever tasted. All the years I spent away, all the pasta I've eaten, the people I spent time with, I always brought up my memories of Angelo's. This time when I visited, it changed. That memory of having the most wonderful pasta sauce is no longer there. The dozen garlic balls is no longer served. It's just not the same. The portions were also smaller. Not sure what happened, but my childhood memory of Angelo's was crushed. I was heartbroken to have not enjoyed this last visit. The sauce was a disappointment to me as well. The service was great, though; if only the food was as great. It just tasted bleh.

Katlyn T.

Yelp
Favorite of our entire family. I love the vegetarian meatball sub. So delicious so simple but great.
google avatar

Justin K.

Yelp
This is my favorite sandwich shop, hands down. The menu is simple and easy to read, as well as the customer service is always on point. The food is what you come to know as delicious! The fact that they offer squaw bread should be enough for a 5-star sandwich shop. It's rare you find this offering. Prices are reasonable and ice tea refills are free. Whereas other drink refills are . 50, so the choice is yours. They have an endless veggie bar with beets, pickles and carrots, just to name a few vegetables. I love this!! This place is outdated in decor, but I don't come for the decor; I come to sit and eat. Parking is easy because it's in a shopping center, so there's always ample parking. If you visit during peak hours, be cautious when driving through, as there's a lot of pedestrians coming and going, as I'm not the only one that finds this place amazing! Check it out!

Yelp
I haven't been here for a while, but Angelo's makes one of my favorite sandwiches, plus as an added benefit there was a relish cart that had carrot sticks, pickles, beets, etc. During Covid, you had to ask for these items and they had them bagged separately, but were still available. I was so surprised when I went in and it's now a sit down restaurant where you order at your table. I ordered my usual, a half turkey sandwich on squaw and was disappointed to learn they don't offer any of the relish cart items anymore. When I got my sandwich, it was just one slice of bread cut in half with a good bit of turkey and a slice of cheese. This was accompanied by a much smaller scoop of macaroni salad than was previously offered. This half sandwich, a mediocre scoop of macaroni salad (that wasn't the original recipe), a soda, and tip came out to over $16. Unfortunately, I'm marking Angelo's off my list of favorite sandwich places.
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
I have been visiting Angelo's since the 1980's back when I was a student at LLU. They had Wonderful sandwiches and spaghetti. Large portions, great vegi options with awesome prices. Almost EVERYTHING has changed (for the worse) since the previous owner sold to a already established business (Najwa's) who moved from Redlands Blvd. to this location. My favorite used to be the pastrami on rye but today I found that the portion size was literally 1/2 the usual size. I get the impression that the new owner wants to serve Mediterranean food and doesn't seem to care about continuing Angelo's reputation of a good quality/good value deli. The old Angelo's has a HUGE following of Loma Linda University students and staff from the last 40 years and we are all very disappointed. Either bring back the quality and portion sizes of the old Angelo's deli or change the name of this restaurant to Najwa's.
google avatar

Omi E.

Yelp
Came for lunch 8/30/22 with a friend. Spaghetti tasted good. No more carrots, cucumbers, pickles, and etc are given with spaghetti. Only 4 garlic rolls came with spaghetti. Used to come with more but things have changed. Staff is friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Emmalee G.

Yelp
New ownership and it's just not as good. Egg salad used to be the best thing, they changed it and it's not even close to as good. Bread was old and it was apparent. The lady at the register was rushing us with nobody else in line. When you purchase a business, leave it alone. This place has been here for years and it's disappointing that it is not the same. My family and I came here wanting Angelo's, not whatever the fuck that was. This place is not going to last. Nobody wants to pay $11 for a sandwich on old bread.
google avatar

Lorena G.

Yelp
Great food... tasty... I was hesitant bc of bad reviews post new ownership but I thgt food was just as tasty and good portions. I ordered a large order last minute and they were able to accommodate. Everyone loved their food. The staff was nice as well. Please support small business.

Barbara B.

Yelp
Angelo's/Najwa's Best place to eat Mediterranean food and Italian food all in one place. Service is great. Love this place.
google avatar

Johanna P.

Yelp
The good reviews here are deceiving. The pasta had no flavor. The meat sauce was okay but the other half flavorless. The garlic knots had no hint of garlic. Unfortunately, will not be going back.
google avatar

R S.

Yelp
This place is no longer Angelo's from what we could tell. The dominating menu is not the former Angelo's menu. The spaghetti no longer has the exact same mizithra cheese as before. The new cheese has a different texture and taste. The regular size meatball sandwich had 2 meatballs in it. The 2 meatballs only filled half the sandwich unless you take a bite here and there from each meatball to extend them through the entire size of the bread.
google avatar

Mayra P.

Yelp
I love this little gem. Their pasta is delicious, and so is their meatball sub. If you get pasta, make sure you get the garlic rolls
google avatar

Justin R.

Yelp
Absolutely the best Turkey Salad sandwich I have ever had! Everything on the menu is phenomenal! It is a true gem in Loma Linda. The best Turkey Salad Sandwich in the State. With Genuine Gratitude, Justin R.

Caleb A.

Yelp
Great food and large amounts for the price! I get the combo with the meat sauce and the mizithra. The workers are also very nice and helpful.
google avatar

Naveen S.

Yelp
Soooo...Angelo's used to be one of the best places to get some pasta, garlic knots, and meat sauce. Apparently they closed and got new ownership. We catered food recently from them. It was HORRIBLE! Zero flavor...just horrible. Everything that used to taste good, does not anymore. The mizithra cheese was tasteless. I am very disappointed and will not ever order from them again.
google avatar

Franny V.

Yelp
This place is great, by far the best Mediterranean restaurant I've tried in the inland empire. The food was amazing, I ordered the kebab combo plate, it comes with plenty of food! Very tasty hummus, salad, chicken and beef. The staff was friendly and our server Sergio did an amazing job. Definitely recommend if you like Mediterranean cuisine.
google avatar

Giovanna D.

Yelp
I have been enjoying Angelo's delicious food since I was a child. Their garlic rolls give me life and are a must with every order! Their sandwiches and spaghetti are so good and you receive a loving amount for the price. Pre-Covid they had a veggie bar that you could pick endless carrots, beets, pickles (my personal favorite), etc. They still offer the veggies, but now they are pre-packaged and you can only get so much with each order. The staff always greets you with a smile and the food is served quick. When you take it to go they will give you all the condiments you need and are not shy to giving you extra if you ask for it. It's a local gem and if you haven't stopped by I suggest you do so... at the very least for the garlic rolls! You won't be disappointed!
