Fabulous place to eat with the best homemade Italian food! Locally family owned restaurant with the nicest people. Thera was our wonderful waitress she did such a great job and she had perfect recommendations- thank you again Thera!

What a gem in the heart of federal hill.. funny how fate brings you to a place. Tried to go to two other recommended places, both of which had long waits, however so glad they did because otherwise we would’ve missed out on this wonderful place. Everything about it- service, atmosphere, food, drinks - were great!! super affordable and excellent flavor. Great crowd and staff too. Everyone working was very attentive and had great recommendations with the food and beer. Would HIGHLY recommend this place and will definitely be back!! Pay Big Rob a visit at the bar; he’s great!! As is his Barback (not sure his name but younger guy who was great too). Thanks for the great experience, food, and time!! We had the calamari (excellent and unique flavor), house salad with the house dressing, the drunken chicken (phenomenal) and the tortellini (excellent as well).

It feels like you step back in time when you’re here. The atmosphere is warm but the people are warmer. The food is fantastic but the people - waiters, waitresses, bartender (Rob!), manager and owner, are all even more fantastic. Even the clientele are more fantastic. The people who work here and who eat here genuinely care about the craft of running a restaurant. It’s love and it’s care and while visiting Providence alone for the first time from the west coast , I felt included, I felt like family. I had the short rib ravioli with shrimp. It was hearty and delicious especially on a rainy day. Rob poured me a glass of Pinot Grigio when I walked in (I headed straight for the bathroom and his voice trailed “I got you, it will be right here for you”). I also tried his old fashion and it was stiff and warm drink - a great job on a classic cocktail. I had a wonderful experience and would love to bring family and friends back.

Loved the vibes of this place, especially on federal hill. We started with the cheesy garlic bread which was good. I got the drunken chicken which was tasty but I should have asked for spicy vodka sauce I feel like it would have made it so much tastier. Nonetheless, service was good and I thought the menu was not expensive either for good portions 👍 another thing I liked was that there is a parking lot in the back of Angelo’s. It’s not huge but some parking is better than nothing around here!

Todd Murphy

Google
The BEST lasagna I've ever had! Sorry, Ma! Over a dozen layers of homemade pasta with a Bolognese that could be served straight up! Speaking of service, Rob the bartender was the best! He poured a perfect martini while simultaneously and effortlessly being our local guide to Federal Hill and training the up and coming bartender, Christian. Over 100 years in business and there is no doubt why!

What a deal! Usually restaurant week in RI just means new items are available and the prices stay high, but at Angelo’s they’re having dishes for way less. I got chicken parm for only $10! And it was their regular size dinner portion (only 1/2 is in my picture). Through July 20 (*dine-in only) they also have mini cannolis for $1, bowl of Palestine, half order of spaghetti for $1, a cocktail for $1, etc.

Google
Haven’t been in over 25 years and it’s just as I remember, absolutely delicious! Eggplant parm and peach margarita 😋 Thera was a terrific server! Must go again soon!

Google
Angelo’s offers and old school Italian vibe and it almost had a diner atmosphere. I heard from a local that this is one of the best Italian restaurants in Federal Hill. I wouldn’t say it lived up to the hype. The food was slightly above average. I liked the calamari and the chicken parm with prosciutto. The service was good but I would say the restaurant was amazing.

Candice K.

Yelp
I came in for lunch and our server was Thera. She was beyond good, she was great! She recommended a couple of things and they were great. I will definitely return soon!

Yelp
An absolutely delicious and welcoming experience at Angelo's! We tried the meatballs, French fries, eggplant Parmesan, and veal with peppers--and every dish was bursting with flavor. The food was clearly made with care, and each bite felt like true comfort. The atmosphere was warm, cozy, and perfect for a relaxed night out. A huge thank you to Siobhan for the outstanding service--she was friendly, attentive, and made us feel completely at home. Can't wait to come back. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Dropped in for lunch with some friends and it's been quite a while since I've been back to this restaurant. To me it was very plain experience for me on the previous visit. This a visit was selected by my friend and I just rolled with it. I ordered the scungilli salad and the veal w/ peppers over penne. My buddies ordered the veal parmigiana their dishes looked pretty good the veal looked pretty thick and the usual pounded to paper thin where you only taste breading. My scungillli salad had a sweet Italian salad dressing. It was a little too sweet for me and my veal and peppers over penne was sitting around excess water in the bottom of the bowl It was served in. Nothing special on my dish and lack luster at best. The bartender who waited on us was pretty social with the patrons in the lounge area. I may go back to try the veal parmigiana.

Yelp
Excellent food. Been here a bunch. Bartender fun. Had chicken parmesan and shrimp scampi. Couple of drinks
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
Ordered a chicken parm sandwich for takeout. The chicken was completely raw inside and inedible. Not even a thick piece of chicken. Couldn't have been in the fryer more than 10 seconds. I'll never eat there again

Yelp
Visited today for a late lunch/early dinner and had a great time! We ordered off of the restaurant weeks menu which has amazing prices. We started with the 1/2 bowl of Pastene soup which was such good comfort food for the price of $1. Yes, just $1 during restaurant weeks, can you believe it? We also ordered the $1 Paesano cocktails which were a tasty mix of burgundy and orange soda and were refreshing on a hot summer day. We opted for the chicken parm, the half order of spaghetti, and added on the combo which included 3 Italian sausage links, 2 meatballs and fries. The quantity and quality of everything was pretty phenomenal, especially given the restaurant week pricing. We finished out our meal with another round of Paesano cocktails, an ice cream roll and two mini cannolis which were all delicious! Service was awesome too and we enjoyed the atmosphere of this 100 year old establishment. What a great experience!

Yelp

Yelp
Dined here on a Saturday around 3:30 in the afternoon. Not busy at all. We came on the recommendation of a local and it turned out to be a great dining experience. Wait staff was fast and friendly with good suggestions from wine to dessert. Valet parking was a breeze. Great experience. They've been in business for over100 years they know what they're doing.

Yelp
I hadn't been to Angelo's for 20 years, and was so happy to find things were still just as good. The updated decor honors their history, and the menu includes all the classics and more. The homemade macaroni is always my favorite, and the meatballs and chicken parm were as good as I remembered. The green bean salad is a classic, and the snail salad was delicious. Our server Ashley was extremely knowledgeable, attentive, and accommodating. She is a real asset to the business. It was a wonderful trip down memory lane,.

Mason L.

Yelp
ASHLEY was the best server ever, the food was next level. The ambiance was so nice with the old Italian feel, and the home feel. Hope ASHLEY WINS. (By the way I was the 14 year old ) Thank you very much Ashley!!

Yelp

Yelp
Angelo's is a legendary spot in a legendary spot. Federal Hill has been a mecca for great Italian food for over 100 years, and Angelo's is part of that legacy. A"workingman's" restaurant, "without frills serving simple, delicious food made from simple recipes." As part of Yelp's Federal Hill Tour promotion, I was very excited to visit Angelo's for one of the original "without frills" offerings of meatballs and fries. Such a fun combination. I am a 100% fan of "red sauce Italian", so this was my number one choice. The restaurant is fun and retro. Comfortable, casual and the staff is very professional and well trained. Great service. In the main dining room there is a train that runs around in the ceiling. If you put a coin in the machine on the wall it does some laps. That adds to the uniqueness and fun atmosphere. The meatballs are legitimately spectacular (as far as meatballs go). I get meatballs everywhere I go, and I've been all over the country and these are easily in the top five that I've had anywhere, maybe top three. They are exactly what you think they would taste like if you had a grandmother from Italy who was using her grandma's recipes. They are the perfect size, tender, flavorful and completely fantastic. If that's what you're looking for, they really can't be beat. The fries were pretty pedestrian. Very average, even if you were dipping them into the gravy from the meatballs to try and give them some taste. They were soft, tasteless, mediocre. The meatballs are definitely the star. The fries didn't add anything to the experience. But if you're going to an Italian restaurant on Federal Hill for fries, I'm kind of questioning your food intelligence. Because the meatballs were so good I had to go with my other standby, chicken parm and ravioli. The chicken parm was literally perfect. Perfectly breaded, pounded thin, smothered in their delicious gravy and topped with great quality cheese. Each element added to their experience and you could taste all of them. The chicken is tender, not over breaded, and absolutely spectacular. It's as good as any chicken parm I have had anywhere. And it's something that I eat everywhere... You can't miss here. Like the fries, the ravioli was pretty much a sidecar to the main event. They were okay, a little overcooked, but well stuffed with tasty cheese. It's kind of like being Steve and Edie next to Frank Sinatra on that plate though. There's a reason that Angelo's has been around for a hundred years, it's great food, legitimately great, it's a great atmosphere, you'll get top-notch, friendly service from professional people, and you'll have fun. Have fun. I'll be back very soon with my daughter who will absolutely love the place. If you have somehow missed this local over the last 100 years, I could not recommend it more. Try it and see how you like it.

Yelp
Loved our time at Angelo's Civita Farnese!! The server/bartender/food connoisseur at Angelo's was so helpful!! He recommended a Stoli Doli (I'm not typically a fan of pineapple or vodka) saying it would pair better with the app and meal than the Caramel martini I was thinking about. Boy was he right!!! Light and refreshing. It only wetted my appetite. My friend's Lucy beverage was even more delicious! I was skeptical about their signature meatballs and fries. Seemed like a weird combo to me. The meatballs tasted like an old (wise) Italian grandma spent days in the kitchen laboring over a hot stove. The sauce was not acidic, it was flavorful and not overly spiced. Perfection. The fries were crisp and potatoey. Really enjoyed that combo!! We also got and shared an entree-spaghetti Aglio e olio was refreshing, light, rich with just a hint of garlic. Truly wonderful! Really enjoyed this experience and looking forward to returning for their 100th anniversary celebration

Yelp
Amazing and authentic Italian with extremely friendly service. Ate here for lunch today and everything was perfect. The staff all welcomed us and took great care of us. The atmosphere is fun and the family history (100+ years Sam family) says it all. They treat you like family. I highly recommend to anyone in the area.

Eliza P.

Yelp
I came back to this place hoping for it to be delicious. I used to come here 30 years ago when I was a student. The food was much better than, frankly. I was so disappointed with the chicken Parmesan. I almost sent it back. I wish I had now. Chicken was awful.Thin, overcooked and rubbery. Awful. The sauce was thin and sweet . I could barely eat it and only had a few bites. I didn't want to embarrass my son by sending it back. My son's food was better but just very average. My walk down memory lane was so disappointing. Would never return, sadly.

Yelp
I always search for a Triple D place to eat when I travel for work and I absolutely LOVE that I found Angelo's. Classic old school Italian. Clean, crisp flavor and huge portions. I had the chicken parm with cheese raviolis and was so happy. I sat at the bar and had lovely conversations with friendly locals who helped guide my order. I was lucky enough to be within walking distance of my hotel with perfect summer weather. You must stop by if you're in the area.

Melanie T.

Yelp
We started with an order of calamari and garlic bread topped with cheese, both of which were delicious. The calamari does have a few olives in there, and I really don't like olives, but they didn't impact the flavor at all. I would definitely order the garlic bread again as it wasn't overly greasy as it can be at times. Both appetizers were very good. The portion sizes were all quite generous and we left with take home boxes, especially with the lasagna. If you like lasagna you definitely should try it. We also ordered both chicken parmesan and eggplant parmesan, which were equally enjoyed. The pasta penne dish with grilled chicken was also a good choice. The atmosphere is 1950ish family Italian restaurant and the service was warm and friendly. While it wasn't the fastest food delivery to the table the server checked in often. I felt like I was stepping back in time and loved the whole experience. Highly recommended.

Bridget L.

Yelp
Ashley S was awesome as usual! Great food and drink! Will come back for sure! Special place on Atwells!!!!

Tom K.

Yelp
The food is consistently great. The lasagna is number one. The server can make or break a meal and a young lady with blonde hair. Irish girl it began with an S. One of the best server I have ever had. A smile makes all the difference and she always wore one. I will be back a lot

Yelp
Good Italian food for families, Affordable pricing, difficult parking with no valet. Friendly and attentive service. Casual vibes.

Roberto G.

Yelp
As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted with a huge smile. My waitress, Rachel, was attentive and awesome while answering any questions I had. She was a trip in the best way.

Yelp
This RI Institution is alive and well, celebrating 100 years of business in 2024! We tried their famous "meatballs and fries" appetizer which may have been the most pleasantly surprising menu item I've ever had. And those meatballs are to die for! Service is quick, since this place is always bustling. It's got the old time feel with modern updates. This is a well loved restaurant, that is staying relevant yet true to their roots. Pro tip- order the chicken Parmesan with vodka sauce and thank me later!
google avatar

Masmin P.

Yelp
Old school Italian-American diner, with leather-seat booths, Victorian tin ceiling, and peg board menu. The pasta is freshly made and the house tomato sauce (or "gravy" as they call it) is quite delicious. We really enjoyed the chicken parm served over pasta and a generous serving of sauce - may be the best I've had, and I've had a lot of chicken parm! The chicken & broccoli Alfredo was also very good. The lasagna was good but the other two dishes were better, in my opinion. Mozzarella stick app was quite satisfying. The mini cannoli was just okay. Cappuccino was good. Service was amazingly quick- our food came out really fast, and our server Nora was very attentive and accommodating. Very pleasant experience, this will be our go-to place when we visit Providence.
google avatar

Ludovica F.

Yelp
Definitely more of an Italian-American restaurant but their garlic bread and penne alla vodka were very tasty!

Nancy S.

Yelp
Great service and great food! Family owned for over 100 years. Prices are very reasonable.

Neil S.

Yelp
Had their gnocchi and it was delicious. Also boasts one of the best old-fashion drinks on Federal Hill

Tate B.

Yelp
The best, most tender veal I've ever had. Friend got a GIANT helping of excellent lasagna. Server was very helpful and friendly, even gave recommendations for other local places. Restaurant felt like a real Italian neighborhood fixture -- it's even on a street where the yellow lines are replaced with Italian flag colors. Very good amount of food for your money -- and downright underpriced for the quality of food you get. I guess the garlic bread was underwhelming. 4.8 stars, you will not be disappointed.

Dave B.

Yelp
Went to Angelo's today for lunch in memory of my father in law, of which this was his favorite place. Sat in bar area and Rob our bartender/server was amazing. Outstanding service and as always, food came out promptly and was delicious. Had the smelts appetizer and legendary meatballs and fries. Rob was attentive, courteous, and funny and made the meal and day complete. Best place on the hill IMHO. Go see Rob, he also males a great aperol spritz!!
google avatar

Camille T.

Yelp
So good. I'll admit that in all my years eating dinner on "the hill," tonight was the first time I ever came to Angelo's. When thinking of a place to go, I suggested it to my husband. He's been here before, but even for him it had been a while. But I honestly think it'll become a part of our rotation. It's nothing super fancy. You can come in wearing jeans and a sweater. But the food is superb. The kids menu is perfect, and my 5-year old deemed that, "this is the best ravioli I ever had, mamma! It's even better than when you make it!" So it has the seal of approval. They both also got meatballs, and ate them all, so I assume those passed approval as well. We got the calamari as an appetizer and it was delicious. My husband got the brasiole , which is a dish from the original 1924 menu. I got the chicken parm and for a side I got the string bean salad. I know that some people might turn their noses up at it, but it honestly was the best I've had in a while - even if it was made with canned green beans. It reminded me of something my grandmother would have made and it was delicious. The gravy was so good. I can't say enough good things about it. My kids don't go anywhere without asking if there's dessert, so while they both had a dish of vanilla oce cream, my husband and I split the triple chocolate brownie ala mode. Which I highly suggest you leave room for. All in all, delicious. I'll definitely be coming back.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant for the food and the ambiance! Located in famous Federal Hill We ordered the chicken parmigiana which is always well pounded. The sauce is to die for! It's truly a smooth tasty gravy. I ordered the side of meatballs. They come 2 meatballs to an order and include French fries! The meatballs are soft and flavorful. And an order of garlic bread with cheese. Sliced thin and very good! The service is great! Lots of young servers running around and getting the job done. Our waitress was Nora. She was smiling in the midst of lots of customers. The ambiance is family oriented. Booths and tables. And not to forget the train that goes around up above. Worth the trip!!! Park in the back with the valet who is upbeat in the midst of parking chaos. He also gets the job done with a smile. Great experience!

Ted G.

Yelp
Great spot, great food. Bartender Rob is a fun guy to chat with. My new favorite spot to stop for a bite
google avatar

Bianca S.

Yelp
Longtime establishment on Federal Hill that has a more family friendly feel to it than many of the other places on Atwells, not to mention it's cheaper too. They have a good selection of both food and drink options, with traditional Italian favorites mixed in with more modern choices. I had the pastine soup and the baked ziti. Both were simple but delicious. Service was also great, I sat at the bar (which is a bit secluded from the main dining area, part of why it feels more family friendly) and the bartender did a great job during a bit of a rush. Overall, a great choice if you're looking for a more casual spot that still has great food.

Robert F.

Yelp
Overpriced food nothing special. Ordered a meatball sandwich, the meatballs appeared to be undercooked they were pink in the middle, orderd a side of fries they gave me approximately 12 fries that tasted like they were cooked hours earlier and reheated. For a restaurant that's been in business for 100 years they need to review there food and service otherwise they will not see another 100 years. When it comes to restaurants there are to many to choose from, I will not be returning.

David C.

Yelp
Amazing food and service. Rob was great. Food was great. Family celebration everyone had an amazing time

Yelp
Our family's recent visit to Angelo's during Providence College homecoming weekend was another great experience. Started with a welcoming greeting from the valet then great service by our waiter and absolutely delicious food. We're already looking forward to our next visit. Thanks Angelo's for preserving such a great Italian restaurant on Federal Hill.
google avatar

Donna N.

Yelp
My daughter had the chicken parm with pink vodka sauce and found 2 long hairs in it! Very little flavor in the pink vodka sauce. I had the veal and peppers and 3 were 3 small pieces of pepper in it and it was way to soupy. Veal was shredded , not pieces. The pastene soup was fine, it was college inn and pastene. If I hadn't know I ordered Garlic bread, I would have thought it was little toasted pieces of bread. Got the chicken parmfor my husband and itvwas okay. The bill came to over 120.00 before tip and no way was this food worth it. Very disappointed and would never order from them again.

Sophia P.

Yelp
So amazing. Great food, Rob was amazing served us so well. I would definitely recommend coming here. We had a 30 person group and everything was perfect

Claire E.

Yelp
Big Rob was the man!! Served my group of 30 and was an awesome server! Would recommend!

Alex C.

Yelp
Cozy family atmosphere. Delicious food. Great portions and more affordable than other Italian eateries on Atwells. We got their lasagna and the current basil infused marinara burratta gnocchi special. Parking on the back made for an easy dining experience. Everyone was friendly throughout our time there. Quick service and refills. Excited to visit again soon.

Ethan C.

Yelp
What a night! Rob was our bartender/waiter and dude has got the best vibes in food service that I've experienced in years. The food was delicious, real fresh cooked with real love. Rob told us that their pantry is stocked with only local ingredients, and even source their soda products from a dude down the street. Definitely a spot to pop into if you want a warm plate of food and a warm smile and chat.

Jason O.

Yelp
Amazing food and service, took our party of 7 last minute and accommodated us very well. Rob was our waiter and he did amazing, super friendly and sociable. Make sure to ask for him!

Ella C.

Yelp
Hands down the BEST lasagna I've had in my life. Family and I are visiting from the south and after eating here I am devastated they're not located down south love love love the food. Highly recommend. The servers are nice and the atmosphere is lovely, I see why they've been in business for 100 years!

Donna M.

Yelp
I have been coming here for many years. Lived in RI for my entire life until retiring to NH in 2015. When we come back to visit family here we always make a point to get to Angelo's. My kids were little when they came here and remember the long tables dining with other families at the same table. Now we take our kids and grandkids and still have the same experience. The food is great, service is wonderful. Wine in the jelly glasses--classic! Gian was our waiter today and was wonderful as always-we've had him a few times-I can't say enough about this restaurant oh except the valet guy. He is exceptional!! Can't wait to come back again! I had the drunkin chicken today-excellent!! Thank you Angelo's!!

Anna S.

Yelp
We had a party of 8 that went to Angelos Sat after the boat show, I have never been there before, I was so impressed with the food and service, from soup to salad to meals and especially the bartenders specialty drinks, we sat in the bar area, bartender was extremely in to his job, made it very nice for us.

Yelp
My absolute favorite spot for Italian on the Hill. Never disappoints. Not fancy, very casual but they have the BEST food. Reasonably priced. In 1924, Angelo's Civita Farnese Restaurant's style of Italian cooking came from cooking for the new settlers to Federal Hill as the "workingman's" restaurant, without frills serving simple, delicious food. Dishes are hearty, substantial & inexpensive. The restaurant has a simple unique ambiance. I highly recommend!!!

Ken S.

Yelp
Please stop in to see Rob on the bar side of this establishment for superior friendly but not in your face service. Rob makes a mean pasta, meatball and sauce plate. And the bread - beautiful, garlicy, crunchy and soft. My wife had chicken tortellini - ate it all and loved it. Nothing else to say. Fun food! Yell Hi to Rob on the way in and enjoy!

Robert S.

Yelp
I've been coming here since i was 2! 36 years of some of the best traditional Italian cuisine out there! The veal is absolutely out of this world, let's not forget about Rob on the bar! Rob will bring a smile to anyone's face and his customer service is unmatched! Thank you for all the wonderful food over the years!
