Angels Bakery Review - Plumstead - London - The Infatuation

"We’re not exactly sure when bakeries started selling jollof rice, stews, and fresh-off-the-grill meats but Angels Bakery—a staple across south east and east London from Peckham to Plumstead—executes this concept perfectly. Perhaps they knew that while people stood in line for their freshly baked, soft, sweet bread, it was the perfect opportunity to tempt them with more food—and it works. Almost nobody seems to walk out of Angels Bakery with just baked goods. Even though the bread and fish/meat pies (imagine a Nigerian-Cornish pasty hybrid) are what they specialise in, their jollof rice, deep in flavour and not too tomato-heavy, and vividly seasoned, succulent grilled suya is better than many takeout and dining spots. For a more-ish, homely snack, the soft sweet bread spooned with some Ghanaian shito (that you can find in many shops nearby to all their stores) is a must-try. " - Riaz Phillips

Where to Find West African Suya in London | Eater London

"Those living in Peckham may have seen more activity than normal at Angels Bakery late at night while carousing down Rye Lane. One reason for this is that Obalende Suya, previously the place to go in Peckham for suya and maybe the only suya spot in the world with a Wikipedia page, has closed; the second is that more people now know Angels do suya in addition to its staples of Afro-Caribbean breads. The options here are beef, chicken and turkey. The best is beef cut into small pieces, some morsels fat and crisp, some charred and crunchy, easily dispatched so the yaji gives a short, sharp, addictive rush. As well as suya, the meat patties are exceptional, with buttery soft pastry, flat as a plane on one side so it is almost crisp, with moist, well seasoned meat, carrots and potatoes — it would be difficult to find a better Cornish pasty in the city." - Jonathan Nunn

I went to the bakery close to opening time and it was only one member of staff there, Jenai. She was lovely and offered great customer service considering it was just her at the shop having to juggle multiple tasks. She deserves employee of the month!

I’ve been coming here for my agege bread and it’s amazing and always freshly baked. They have other snacks and really good moi moi and scotch eggs. The service is also great. This place is a gem!

Tiny place, but great food. Love their Meat Pie's and Moi Moi in leaves. The fresh, warm bread is delicious. Prices are reasonable and fair. Highly recommend it.

Customer service is poor. They sit at the bank having their personal conversation which can be heard from out front while customers waiting to be served. Also they have a new young girl who is very rude, truly bad mannered, she need to stay at the back or learn how to speak to customers. The bread is nice if it’s fresh and hot out of oven.

The atmosphere was like we were in the oven with the bread. Last year I complained about the temperature in summer how baking hot it was for the customers and the staff. I just sense an I don’t care attitude by the management because they feel we will keep coming irrespective of how we are treated. The place is HOT!!! Do something about it before you will have a casualty.

Visited Peckham branch today, I always go there to buy my Togolese beans and many more, Qudus and Basit where there today, very good customer service from both of them, especially Qudus patient and always smiling with a sense of humour Well done 👍

This site is an absolute JOKE!!! The customer service here is below 0, more than half the team think it is right to be having full blown conversations round the back whilst there are customers waiting in store, there is no queing system in place of any shape or form and more than half the time your orders are being forgotten. FULL RETRAINING is and should be done at this site.

Got food poisoning which caused more health issues from the suya that wasn't well flavoured and was dry. Customer service was ok. A shame because it had been decent before.
