Yelp
Rating: 100/100
This mind-bendingly delicious meal was the best I had in Barcelona, the 2nd best I had in Spain, and one of the top 10 best and most memorable in my life.
*****Foreword*****
As of now there are roughly 25 Michelin star-rated restaurants in Barcelona, and it's safe to say that the development of culinary culture in this city is so advanced that one should not waste an opportunity for fine dining when here, if nothing else than just to experience the extraordinary legacy of Catalan cuisine the city's chefs have inherited.
Thus, assuming you make reservations early enough, the question is not whether to do so, but where to do so, and with so many choices, that can be a daunting question. After careful deliberation, I chose Angle for my fine meal, despite it having no English reviews on Yelp at the time. I can confidently say that choosing Angle was a triumph.
******Vitals******
Recognition: One Michelin star.
Cuisine: Catalan cuisine with modern influences.
Courses & Pricing: 2 tasting courses offered for dinner: €75\€100; They also have a €50 weekday lunch.
*****Service******
Flawless, tactful, conscientious, considerate, polite, personable. Despite the high complexity of the meal, dishes are brought out in perfect pace. Waiters monitor your eating tacitly, keeping an eye on your progress without the slightest hint of intrusion. Descriptive explanations are provided with each dish, allowing you to get the most enjoyment out of what you're eating.
*******Food******
I chose the smaller of the two tasting courses and even this was MORE than enough food. Here's a brief explanation of what I was served, but note that the menu is highly seasonal.
-Bloody Mary w/ Celery Sorbet, lettuce, and baby tomatoes (?/5) - Tomato is the only food I can't handle, but even then I still tried to like this. Unfortunately, I couldn't get through the bloody mary, but the celery sorbet was very interesting!
-Sweet corn taco and foie gras with mole (5/5) - Amazingly delicate taco shell, sweet, buttery interior
-Smoked Scamorza cheese spheres and ceps mushrooms (5/5) - This local dish was phenomenal. The cheese spheres exploded into smokey cheesy ecstasy without your mouth.
-Cured Egg Yolk withIberian pork slices (5/5) - The most tender, tasty sliced pork I've had
-Scallop with carrot textures (5/5) - The scallop was amazingly soft and fresh, but the different textures of carrot, ranging from raw to puree, added a interesting level of flavor.
-Thai red coconut curry with market fish and Norwegian lobster (5/5) - Amazingly fresh seafood in drinkably delicious curry, finished with Catalonian young leek
-Roast guinea fowl with foie gras, black garlic and eggplant (5/5) - Phenomenal texture for the fowl and foie gras, which was topped by what looked liked exploded, spongey black garlic cloves; tasted garlicy, but switched to sweet before getting too strong.
-Coconut ice cream, clove sponge cake, lime and basil (5/5) - This is the most fascinating, most ingenious dessert I've had, perhaps ever. These 4 seemingly unfriendly flavors blended together to form an exotic combination, as if 4 puzzle pieces were clinching perfectly together over your tongue.
-Chocolate textures with vanilla ice cream and hazelnuts (5/5) - If the previous dessert was risky/exotic, then this is the crowd-pleaser. Some of the best chocolate bites I've had!
-Petit fours (5/5) - Chocolate square, Roasted Marshmallow, Raspberry financier, and the interesting red berry edible lipstick (sherbet)
*****Summary*****
Essentially a flawless meal. If you're looking for a fine meal, Angle should be at the top of your list.
