"I encountered Ani’s Day & Night as a Montopolis bar and food‑truck hub that opened in 2021 and positioned itself as an unofficial clubhouse for local artists by hosting exhibits and concerts featuring neighborhood creatives; the team prioritized building relationships with longtime residents — knocking on doors and handing out free coffee coupons within a one‑mile radius — and were welcomed warmly, with neighbors bringing food, watching the place, and forming personal connections (staff know patrons’ drink orders and dogs’ names). "After the sudden late-December 2023 closure, I found Ani’s Day & Night—the Montopolis cafe and bar at 7107 East Riverside Drive—locked amid lease and ownership turmoil: a Reddit photo showed a December 21 lockout notice addressed to co-owner Zach Herigodt for nonpayment of rent, though when I (or Eater) visited on January 5 the notice was gone and a handwritten sign said “we are still closed” with a smiley face. The co-owners, Rachael Garbowski and Herigodt, opened Ani’s in July 2021 as a coffee-, cocktail- and wine-focused spot that hosts food trucks on its alfresco space; Garbowski wrote that they are “still sorting things out with the landlord and hope to reopen again as soon as possible.” The closure has created ongoing uncertainty for on-site vendors and may keep the cafe closed for weeks while lease issues are resolved." - Nadia Chaudhury

"For people looking to quench their thirst in the Montopolis area, this cafe and bar is the best game in town. Based in a 1930s-era Victorian house and named after the dwelling’s former matriarch Aniceta “Cheta” Limon, Ani’s serves a variety of cocktails and creative coffee concoctions. Try the Bubble Pop Electric (honey, grapefruit juice, and sparkling water topped with espresso over ice).
