"For great Nepali food in Elmhurst, head to Annapurna Thakali Kitchen. During peak hours, you might encounter a short wait, because the compact, two-floor spot is often full of families and groups of friends, each going to town on their own thali set. That’s what you’re here for too, and it’s worth hanging about until you’re seated. Start with the Wai Wai sadeko and then a thali with your choice of protein—we like the pork, which is crispy and fatty like the most perfect chicharron. Someone will come around and offer you free refills of daal and mustard greens—take advantage of this until you’re way past full. "For a Nepali thali set, Annapurna in Elmhurst is our favorite option. Other people seem to also know this, because the two-level spot on Roosevelt Ave. often has a short wait during peak hours. Tables are occupied by families and groups of friends, each going to town on their own personal thali. Try to get a table on the first floor (the basement lacks windows), and then start with a snack of Wai Wai sadeko before a thali set with your choice of protein. We like the pork, which is crunchy like chicharron. Do take advantage of the free refills of daal and mustard greens each time your server comes around." - willa moore, sonal shah, bryan kim

"Named for a district in Nepal, Mustang Thakali Kitchen has been open since 2008, and if you find yourself in Jackson Heights looking to spend some quality time with a plate of momos, it’s a solid choice. We like the chicken thali with ultra-savory dal and tender chicken, or the samya bajee, a “Nepali bento box” with marinated chicken and beaten rice. The chow mein with beef, which will arrive at your table with every noodle just lightly charred, but still very chewy, is another good choice. The large space has a bar in the back and a big window in the front, which is perfect for people-watching during a solo meal. photo credit: Willa Moore photo credit: Willa Moore photo credit: Willa Moore" - Willa Moore

"During peak hours, you might encounter a short wait at Annapurna Thakali Kitchen. The compact, two-floor spot is a popular choice for Nepali thali in Elmhurst—for good reason—and it fills up with families and groups of friends, each going to town on their own thali set with refillable bowls of comforting daal and greens. A captain keeps things running smoothly: picking up orders from a small window looking into the kitchen, refilling bowls when levels of daal get low, and handing out checks. Try to get a table on the first floor, and start with the Wai Wai sadeko. Then, order a thali set with your choice of protein, and work your way around and around your platter until you are way past full." - Willa Moore

Small hole in the wall, they didnt have any waiters in staff when i went. A bit cramped and food left me wanting. Some elements of the dish were good, but the flavour sadly wasn't there. Hopefully i just went on an off night.

I am not lying!! Although the place looks small as soon as you enter but, never judge any place from its ambience bcz this place has the best food. Servers are respectful and kind. I tried momos, veg thali and I would 100% recommend this place to everyone. Quality is really good and worth spending money on. Thank you for serving the best food.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Annapurna Thakali Kitchen and tried their Pork Thali. This dish truly captures the authentic taste of Nepal. The thali is a delightful assortment of various Nepali dishes served on a large metal plate. The pork was tender and flavorful, marinated and cooked to perfection with a blend of spices that was both aromatic and savory. Accompanying the pork were several side dishes, each bringing its unique flavor and texture. The sautéed greens were fresh, providing a nice contrast to the richness of the pork. The yellow curry potatoes were creamy and mildly spiced, a comforting addition to the plate. The dal (lentil soup) was hearty and well-seasoned, perfect for mixing with the fluffy, fragrant white rice. There was also a selection of pickles and chutneys that added a tangy and spicy kick to the meal. The crispy papad (thin, crispy flatbread) offered a delightful crunch. This thali was not just a meal but a culinary journey through Nepalese flavors and traditions. The presentation was simple yet inviting, and the overall experience was enhanced by the warm and cozy ambiance of the restaurant. Annapurna Thakali Kitchen has done an excellent job of bringing a piece of Nepal to its diners, and I highly recommend the Pork Thali for anyone looking to explore authentic Nepalese cuisine.

Deserves much better reviews!! I personally think they serve the best (South) Asian food. Because the space is tight, there might be some inconvenience. Other than that, the catering quality is top-notch!!!

I recently visited Annapurna Thakali Kitchen and was thoroughly impressed by their Pork Thali. This restaurant is a perfect destination for anyone seeking authentic Nepalese cuisine and Himalayan flavors. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a cozy interior that immediately makes you feel at home. The service was exceptional, thanks in large part to our server, Alina, who was both attentive and knowledgeable. She guided us through the menu and ensured that we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The chef, Shrijana, truly outdid herself with the Pork Thali. The pork was tender and richly flavored, cooked with a perfect blend of spices that evoked the true essence of Nepal. Each component of the thali, from the sautéed greens to the yellow curry potatoes and the hearty dal, complemented the pork beautifully. The assortment of pickles and chutneys added an exciting variety of tastes and textures, while the crispy papad provided a satisfying crunch. Overall, Annapurna Thakali Kitchen offers an impeccable dining experience. The combination of authentic flavors, excellent service, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy genuine Nepalese food and the taste of the Himalayas.

I have been coming here for a while now. I always order the Pork Thali and it’s contrasting compared to other Nepalese restaurant. I think their Thali deserves a Michelin star now. It has been very consistent throughout the years and all the item that comes with their thali is scrumptious! It’s a must “Go Spot” and I’d recommend it to everyone.

Worst costumer service!!! We were at the restaurant at 9 pm and ordered 3 thali, we waited for 1 hour (until 10 pm). they gave food to others who were there after us but they literally forgot us. after wasting our 1 hour we decided to leave without eating anything. They saw we leaving but didn’t care about saying anything, seems like they don’t really care whoever come and go. Although we were very much regular costumer who likes the taste of thali but this is really disappointing. We decided not to go again.

My favorite Thali in Jackson Heights. I know that’s high praise but seriously - this place will make you feel like you’re eating out of your mom’s kitchen. It’s healthy, tasty, hot, and a true thali with thali service. I know others complained about the service, but for me it was fast and food.

Yelp
YUM. My new favorite spot for a healthy meal in Jackson Heights. I came here after discovering a great Himalayan restaurant in Beacon, NY. I was hopeful to have another chance to eat gundruk, which was offered as a side at Annapurna Thakali in the past. They no longer serve gundruk at least at the time of my visit, but this ultimately did not detract from one of the best and most interesting meals I've had in awhile. I ordered the vegetable dhendo set which is a thali type meal featuring dhendo (dhindo) as the staple rather than rice. This was new to me and vaguely similar to fufu. It's a slightly chewy dough made of buckwheat and corn flour that is used to dip into/scoop up the various curries and pickled items that come on the platter. It has a rather mild flavor on its own, and I really enjoyed it as a healthier alternative to white rice. As I was wrapping up all the delicious and unique items on the platter, I was pleasantly surprised when the waiter came by and offered refills of everything! My favorite items were the daal, the fresh mustard greens, and the potato curry. Everything seemed low in oil and not overly salted. I couldn't have been more pleased with this meal and cannot wait to come back. FYI it is definitely a hole-in-the-wall vibe, but don't let that deter you!

Yelp
Annapurna Thakali Kitchen may not have a fancy exterior, but don't let that fool you--the food is great. Surprisingly delightful, our unplanned visit turned into a culinary revelation. Every dish we ordered had a flavor-packed punch. The server, who might also be the owner, added a friendly touch to our experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and recommend making a visit, whether solo, with friends, or on a date. This hidden gem of Nepalese cuisine on the serene side of Roosevelt is not to be overlooked.

Yelp
This place HAS THE BEST THALI!! Friendly staff and delicious fresh and MOST AUTHENTIC Nepalese food. I forget Nepali cooking when come here. I brought my family visiting from Nepal and Australia here and they LOVED it.

Yelp
I had one more meal before jumping on the bus to La Guardia Airport... I thought I'd get one more slice of pizza, but stumbled onto Annapurna Thakali Kitchen. I've been craving a bit of a 'cultural food experience', and one more slice of pizza wasn't going to do it. I wasn't disappointed! I ordered chicken momos, and some sort of really good spicy peanuts. The service was very friendly and the food was great. Most of the locals were having the Thali, which is what I will get the next time I'm doing the LGA bus/subway thing.

Yelp
Don't sleep on this place, it's quite literally a hidden gem. When you exit the subway and want to go to the busy area of JH, don't, go the opposite way down Roosevelt and there you will find this gem. Seating-upstairs and downstairs, but I def prefer staying upstairs. Ambience- hole in the wall in the best possible way. Service- the owner is a woman, who cooks and does it all. Her homestyle food is maybe not for all, but if you want legit/traditional Nepalese cuisine then this place is for you. It's phenomenal, She is a true gem and can't say enough good things. Don't change!! Food-Thali is amaaaaaaazing guys, amaaaazing. Like just get it, don't think. just get it. It is the closest thing to authentic Nepalese cuisine you will find on this side of Roosevelt. I wish she would expand and come to manhattan. Jhol-excellent, Momos-excellent. Price-average/v. reasonable for what you are getting. Can not emphasize enough to come here and try it out by yourself, with a group on a date, whatever you want. Just make sure you don't sleep on this tiny little slice of Nepal hidden on the quiet side of Roosevelt. Let me know what you get?
