Where to Eat Pierogi in Chicago | Eater Chicago

"Red Apple was known for its buffet, which is still open on weekends, but, like everyone else, it has made adjustments for the pandemic era, specifically takeout. (There’s also a prix-fixe family-style meal for those who want to eat in the restaurant.) But the pierogis are still the same, and there are eight varieties to choose from, both sweet and savory, plus two vegan options." - Aimee Levitt

To be honest, this is the first time I have been here. Created immediately and professionally and in a warm family way all at the same time. Service was great. Food arrived super quickly. Food was great and large portions. I don’t think I will need lunch after eating breakfast here. Great experience!

Hours of operation was 7am-3pm Sun-Sat and we came at 2pm. I had buttermilk pancakes, steak hash browns and scrambled eggs. My daughter had turkey sausage, scrambled eggs and butter milk pancakes. It was delicious. We had enough to save for later. Waitress was attentive and order was accurate.

The family and I have been to this Red Apple many times over the past couple years. Unfortunately our last couple times have witnessed a demise in service and food quality. Last time there, the water glasses were still very dirty and lipstick could be seen in them. The breakfast dish was luke-warm but the Turkey club my wife ordered was pretty good. My kids love this place but now we are more adverse to go back due to the lower quality and poor cleanliness. I hope this is only a temporary setback and they improve so we can again frequent this establishment on a monthly basis.

Delicious food and cozy atmosphere! We will definitely come back!

This was my first experience at Anna's. My church choir reserved a room for us because we were celebrating our gratitude for our Choir Director's Amazing dedication to us🎵 We were greeted kindly & the service was fantastic. The food was in abundance & delicious 😋 We all agreed we will return again next year but we also agreed we will be visiting again really soon 👍Thank you for making our time a most enjoyable one 😀 👍🙏

Google
This is a great breakfast with friendly staff and shockingly quick food service. The atmosphere makes it a perfect place to dine in and catch up with loved ones or old friends.

Yelp
We've driven past here before and finally stopped for breakfast. Overall, had a very positive experience. Staff were very friendly, service was excellent, and each of our eggs, hash browns, turkey sausage and bacon were all really good. Overall, a cozy breakfast joint that's a solid choice for breakfast if you're in the area.

Yelp
Just like grandma used to cook!! Place was packed on arrival, waited 5 minutes. Sat near the kitchen so I was able to see everything being served. O man, I wanted everything!!! 2 people ordered enough for 3.5 people. The build your own sandwich did not even have a chance! That was inhaled in 30 seconds (croissant, egg, cheese, sausage patty). The country fried steak came either chicken or beef, went with beef, yum!! Skillet, I look down then looked up, gone! Wait staff was super friendly, from the gentleman that sat us to the waitress that waited on us, all awesome!! Will be re-visiting!!

Yelp
2.5 very friendly service, bacon very good and omelettes good, pancakes meh, hash browns not good - they add a 4% surcharge to the bill, nothing to do with how you're paying, just an additional charge for some reason

Yelp
My husband and I went to Red Apple Pancake House on a Sunday morning. We met two friends there and had a really nice breakfast. It was busy but not crowded. The servers were very nice and attentive. I liked that ther was a calm and relaxed atmosphere. I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes and my husband ordered the three bread French toast. The pancakes were plain with some chocolate chips sprinkled on top. The three bread French toast gave you the opportunity to try the banana bread, cinnamon swirl bread and crunch French toast on one plate. For a traditional tasting breakfast in a cozy environment, I recommend Red Apple Pancake House.

Yelp
I was at a luncheon here today. There were about 30 of us. Service was stellar Judy, Melissa and Victoria were very attentive to all our needs. We had a private room and the rest of the staff were very welcoming. I had the apple orchard melt which was beyond my expectations. Looking forward to next months luncheon there

Yelp
Good classic American breakfast food. The service is always fast and friendly and the atmosphere is cozy. This is my go-to local spot when I want to take my parents out for brunch

Yelp

Yelp
Ordered for Pick Up and this was one of the most difficult thing to do. Sorta wished i'd just ordered from Doordash or Uber but wanted to give this business the full commission. Upon ordering my food the worker who took my order was very difficult and gave me a hard time. Always making alot of side comments and somehow ended up calling me John many times Ordered Biscuits and Gravy, Corn Beef Hash and Chocolate Pancakes. Biscuits and Gravy were okay but did not see any sausage as they advertised. Corn Beef Hash- My wife who loves corn beef hash said it tasted old and had a bad after taste The Chocolate Pancakes were good according to my niece Went to go pick up my food and when I spoke to the front desk guy who took my order over the phone he said he was too busy what do you need?, and when I said I was picking up he said there was too many orders? In front of him when there were only 2 togo orders. I've ordered from this restaurant once before through doordash and my order took 2 and half hours to make it to me. I thought i'd give this place a chance since my niece who always sees the red apple while driving by made it a special place. Will not be getting my business anymore

Yelp
Massive portions. Really good food. Nice, homey atmosphere. Only open for breakfast and lunch. Lots of variety. Decent prices. Plenty of parking out back. Gets busy on Sunday morning, but they turn over the tables pretty quick. Service is good and fast. I've had their decadent stuffed French toast and pumpkin pancakes, but my go-to healthy brunch option is the Slim Sarah for $8.79 from the Healthy Corner. I get green tea with it, and it comes with a fresh lemon wedge. The meal is egg whites cooked with fresh spinach and mushrooms, served with fruit cup and dry English muffin. Sounds healthy, but the portions are MASSIVE. So I eat the whole thing and am totally stuffed. The bread comes with both marmalade and strawberry jam, and I also add butter to it, so it's totally delicious and probably not that healthy. The omelette was a bit bland, as egg white only omelettes tend to be, so I added Cholula hot sauce and ketchup and salt and pepper to jazz it up a bit. Fresh fruit cup didn't look as fresh in late October, but it was still sweet and tasty. Definitely highly recommended as a favorite brunch place in Palatine.

Yelp
The service was wonderful, but the berry crepes had way too much berries & sauce. The crepes were almost swimming in them which made it too sweet. I would have loved the crepes so much more if they didn't overload the crepes with the berries & sauce. Everyone else in my party loved their food. I just picked the wrong item.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday with some friends. Friendly staff and good food. The portions are a decent size as well. I always end up taking half home which is nice. I usually order the vegetarian or Greek omelet. My friends usually try one of their skillets. I've come on a Saturday two times, and both times I didn't have to wait. Other places nearby I would probably be waiting for an hour or more on the weekend.

Yelp
worst toast I have ever had. I am not comparing this to wild berry. I am comparing this toast to all low cost breakfast places. It's like eating cardboard

Yelp
I've gone to the Red Apple for probably 15 years. I've always enjoyed the food for breakfast. Recently, about 2 years ago, it was sold to a restaurant group. Nothing good has taken place since the sale. It used to be that diners would receive free coffee as long as I ordered anything more than $6. Well, of course that eventually went away, and it's been downhill ever since. Not because I'm cheap and don't want to spend money on the breakfast, but they've lost so much business because of this move, that they're having a hard time being properly staffed. Now, to end it for me, my bill for Eggs Benedict yesterday morning, with nothing else, ended up at $17.41. That's right. $17.41, which is incomprehensible. No coffee, no orange juice, nothing else. I simply won't eat at a place that raised their prices in 1.5 years from $11.99 to $13.99. It was a good run, but never again. If the management and new ownership at Red Apple cannot figure out why the place is rarely packed like it used to be, then they're in the wrong business. There used to 3-4 servers, and there is one now. I love Jessica and she works hard, but come on Management...

Yelp
Flight got in at 430am and I had a meeting a noon, so I decided to get some breakfast and found the red apple. The food is alright, I had the chorizo skillet. It was good, nothing out of this world, but definitely worth the money. It comes with a couple of pancakes and is honestly enough for two people. Food alone would be 3.5 stars. What gets this place 5 stars is the service. I travel and eat out a lot, and the hostess/server was the absolute nicest person. I was seated promptly, got some coffee, was offered a news paper, etc. Food came out quick and was hot. Absolutely fantastic.

Yelp
Sometimes I think my reviews are pretty redundant. I tend to get similar things wherever we go. My diet is somewhat limited so I guess that makes my eating a little boring sometimes. Unless we go out for some sort of ethnic foods, I typically get a burger and fries. At Red Apple, that's what I ordered - a "chubby burger" with fries. The burger, I would guess, was about 1/3 pound. I was served as I ordered it - medium. The meat was good. The fries were tasty. The lettuce and tomato were about what you would expect right before winter, not great. The onion was good. They give you a very warm greeting when you first arrive. And, it is clear they have their regulars and their favorites - greeting them by name when they arrive and giving them the "special" treatment. We saw an elderly man come in - he could barely walk. The owner came out and helped him to his regular table. That was really nice to see.

Yelp
I had a late breakfast or maybe it was an early lunch here today. At 12:30 p.m. on a Saturday the place was busy, but not so crowded that we had to wait for a table. Service was excellent! The food was delivered quickly. I had eggs over easy with bacon. The bacon was very high quality and the eggs were served exactly the way I like them. I couldn't have been more pleased. My companion had a lovely vegetable omelette and she too was very pleased with the food. Maybe one negative comment. The place was rather noisy. While the crowd was of mixed ages, it was not an overly boisterous group. This leads me to believe that the construction of the dining room causes the noisy condition rather than the size of the crowd. If you are bothered by loud dining rooms you will be unhappy. But I think most people will deal with this just fine. I know I will be back again for sure!

Yelp
Tasty, good service and good location with ample parking. Nice neighborhood restaurant!

Yelp
We come here every Thursday after hockey, and the owner always takes care of us. We've been going here for many years, and I highly recommend their salads, soups, or any of their sandwiches. They have the best homemade muffins.

Yelp
I've been looking around the suburbs for the last couple months trying to see if I can find any restaurant to make me change my mind about Red Apple being the best overall family/breakfast+lunch type restaurant in the area and I can't really find anything to change my mind. I've tried a lot of restaurants including Mr Allisons, Billy's Pancake House, Dunton House, Egg Harbor Cafe, Cafe Fourteen, Maxfield's Restaurant, Jason's Deli, Wildberry Cafe, Ritzy's Cafe, Walker Brothers, Egglectic Cafe, Denny's, Bakers Square, etc. Criteria that I look for include food, service, parking, prices, variety, freshness, decor, and method of handling the long lines. Red Apple manages to excel in pretty much all these categories. Food is always in large portions, fresh, consistent, and well planned in execution (although Egg Harbor Cafe wins here). Service is quick and friendly. They try to offer new menu items from time to time and have a decently large menu. Decor is a bit above average although not as nice as Wildberry Cafe. All in all, it's pretty hard not to have a good experience here. In fact, I was debating whether I should write another review for Red Apple. It's already quite popular and if more people find out about this hidden gem, I'll have a harder time getting a seat on the weekends =p. I'm very impressed though with how well they brace the Yelp community and listen to customer suggestions. They have better coffee now and cut back on how sugary or salty some items were. This makes it pretty safe to order nearly anything off the menu now and be impressed. The one area that could still be improved are the soups since the standards are done well but sometimes some of the new flavors (like pumpkin or yolk with lemon) aren't always that great. If they can make soups as good as Maxfield's Restaurant, then there's really no weakness at all in their cooking. Once again, for specific items that stood out in my mind: Philly Steak Sandwich, Strip Steak Sandwich: Delicious, flavorful beef without really being salty. The fries here are great although a cup of fruit goes well also. Huevos Rancheros: Normally I'm not a big fan of this dish but this is really well done. Banana Pecan Crepes: Delicious with a great texture and plenty of nuts. Sometimes the crepe is crispy as well, which puts this over the top. Tiramisu crepes: Not on the menu but I think it's even better than the pancake version. It's a tough one to debate but I'd be happy with either one. White chocolate pancakes: A surprise for people who don't usually eat white chocolate. A bit better to ask them to go light on the raspberries so that the white chocolate flavor is more prominent. All omelettes are light and fluffy with a great mix of cheese as well as skillets. Butcher Block and Mile High Denver are my choices with omelettes and red apple special and vegetarian for skillets. I liked all 6 benedicts. This is probably the one category of breakfast food that Red Apple wins hands down. Most other places have a hollandaise sauce with an unusual consistency or strange flavor. Red Apple also gets the best texture from their poached eggs of any of the nearby restaurants. Apple orchard chicken, strawberry fields (if it's strawberry season), and popeye would be my favorite salads. California and triple decker would be my favorite deli sandwiches. The muffins they sell in the front are quite good too. It's not as soft as Costco's or as fragrant as Mariano's but it's quite crunchy with nice fresh ingredients inside. I'll keep looking around to see if any other restaurants can change my mind. I see lots of new construction happening recently so we'll see.

Yelp
Absolutely love the Chicken salad Orchard melt!! So so yummy and large portions! The clam chowder is delicious too!

Yelp
I will say I hate the slots and gambling - especially right up front. But that's now everywhere in Palatine But the food here is always amazing and even with the new owners they have kept what is good and made some improvements inside. The staff here is always so nice and welcoming. The pumpkin pancakes are amazing
google avatar

Randa U.

Yelp
Great restaurant! The pumpkin pancakes are a must! You have to go in an get the pumpkin butter, too! They are very friendly and they always check on you to see if everything is great. The service is great, if you need something, someone is always there to help you out. I would definitely get the pumpkin pancakes, their skillets or omelets, you really can't go wrong.
google avatar

Dan H.

Yelp
A great, somewhat upscale, breakfast and lunch restaurant that seems to specialize in sinfully delicious pancakes, pancakes and waffles. Being vegan, we have to become vegetarian when we come here, but it's worth it because the oven baked omelets are incredible. The service is great and everyone is very responsive and happy here. Highly recommended.

Yelp
A winner for breakfast on a weekend. I called ahead to be sure if there was a wait. No wait, but when I arrived the parking lot was mostly full. But we were seated without a wait as promised and quickly offered a cup of coffee. Good experience. I took a gander around to see what everyone was having. Everything looked great and in good portions. Everyone walking out the door had leftover tins. I ordered chicken fried steak with hash browns, over easy eggs and a complimentary side of buttermilk pancakes. Red Apple meets all expectations of a consistent good weekend breakfast experience. Courteous service, good value and portions. Meets my expectations. Great times, I found a new favorite breakfast place!
google avatar

Mina H.

Yelp
Been here a couple of times and must say it's a pretty good breakfast for reasonable prices... I'm not too much of a fan of sweet but based on a sampling of their signature pumpkin pancakes... agree they are good... and relieved to note they had swapped out the BAD coffee they were experimenting with the previous visit... so no negatives to note in this review. They listen to the customers... it wasn't just our table of four that was noting how awful and weak the coffee was... yay. Service is good and I recommend sharing if you are getting an omelet... otherwise expect leftovers. Not convenient if you are heading out for the day.

Yelp
I love this place! It's my favorite breakfast place in the area. Good atmosphere, good service, quick service, and great food! Customer service is really important to me, and this place does it justice! Their menu here is great too! So many different options to try, it's almost too hard to choose. I have been here a couple times before. Ordered things such as: scrambled eggs, toast, meat of choice; and the Mile High Omelette (Ham, Green Peppers, Onions). This time I ordered two scrambled eggs with sausage links and whole wheat toast, served with hashbrowns. I also ordered the Apricot Strawberry Three Bread French Toast for our table to share. It's 3 different types of bread with fresh fruit - delicious! The eggs and other sides were great too. Very large portions, which you can never go wrong with leftovers! I recommend this place! It's definitely my breakfast spot. I'd love to try the Cherry Heaven French Toast :D
google avatar

Linh Q.

Yelp
Friendly staff and customers! Strawberry Crepes - The strawberries were fresh and not too sweet. Perfect for me but may be considered bland for those with a sweet tooth. Belgium Waffles - Rivals Egg Harbor Cafés! Slight crisp on the outside. Soft and fluffy on the inside. Worth waking up early for this! Bacon - Thick cut bacon! Kids Chocolate Chip Pancakes - 2 Bigger Than Your Head Pancakes with drizzled chocolate syrup and sprinkled with chocolate chips. The pancakes were good, like your typical pancakes. Coffee - Not for me. Reminds me of cafeteria coffee. Not much flavor to it.

Yelp
What's not to love? Great hostess, great waitress, great food, and great prices. The dumbasses at yelp thought that review was too short, so I added this note calling them dumbasses.
google avatar

Sandra L.

Yelp
Service was great. Waitress very nice. They seemed to have raised prices. A burger, fries and tiny soup was 15.00. A beverage was over 3.00. Crazy expensive.
google avatar

Darlene C.

Yelp
Great breakfast spot, fantastic omelettes! They can get busy but it's usually a short wait. They could use a bit more wait staff.

Johnny W.

Yelp
Delicious food with large portions. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I like how there is a large array of choices.
google avatar

Justin U.

Yelp
This is like any great pancake house. They have lots of breakfast and lunch choices, bottomless cups of coffee and they get packed on weekends. I've been here at least 3 times. I've enjoyed my meals everytime and the service has always been attentive and friendly.

Yelp
This is a great local spot for breakfast and brunch. We came here on thanksgiving day, not wanting to cook anything besides the actual turkey meal. Our go to is usually walker brothers, but on holidays the wait can get a bit long. So we opted for the more convenient and closer option. We were seated right away and given the best waitress. She was funny, accommodating, and nice-but with a very honest flair. We loved her charm nonetheless! We ordered an array of dishes, including: the waffle combo- a great selection of every staple breakfast item! lox plate- I loved this dish, but my dad was weirded out by the super red color of the sockeye salmon Red Apple special skillet- delicious! Not so healthy though but very flavorful and filling We were all fairly satisfied with our meal and would love to come back. Local diner vibes made this spot extra homey for the holidays!

Yelp
My wife grew up nearby, so has eaten here many times over the years. We ate here while on a short weekend trip in the area. I had the Greek Scrambler. My wife had a Vegetarian Omelette with egg whites. My kid had Chocolate Chip Pancakes. I was admittedly underwhelmed when my dish was brought out, but looks can be deceiving. The feta cheese was cooked long enough in the scramble to impart a subtle creaminess and light saltiness that took this to another level. I was really quite delighted. Feta has never had a huge appeal for me, but I might try using it this way the next time I cook eggs at home. The hash browns were good. I was not impressed with my wife's dish, but then again, it was a vegetarian egg white omelette--expectations have to be tempered. It did have a good amount of fresh vegetables. My kid decided to eat my buttermilk pancakes instead of his chocolate chip ones. I thought both were pretty decent. I did like that, aside from the chocolate chips inside the pancakes, they also heaped a bunch on top of the stack that started melting as the pancakes were warm. The plain buttermilk pancakes were light and fluffy. This is a family restaurant, so there isn't much to say about the decor. I liked that they had little step stools in the bathroom, which meant I didn't have to hoist my kid up to wash his hands. The quantity of the food for the price was above average (except for my wife's veggie egg white omelette, which was kind of pricey). The Greek Scrambler, in particular, provides a lot of food for a very reasonable price. The wait staff was exceedingly friendly. They are a little understaffed, but I dont think I have been to a restaurant in the past year that wasn't. We would eat here again.

Rachel K.

Yelp
Delicious thick-cut bacon and fluffy light pancakes! Generous portion sizes and attentive service. We'll be back.

Curt S.

Yelp
Red Apple has good food with generous portions. The staff is friendly and accommodating but tends up charge orders. The pricing is aggressive and with junk fees added in 2023 makes it less than reasonable.

Yelp
Pretty good. Very nice atmosphere inside. Our server was very nice and helpful. The food was good. Sorry, I'm keeping this review short, but definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
My brother and sister introduced me to this place for the first. Came to Red Apple with my family for Sunday brunch. We were told they had a 15 minute wait, but was sat in 2... Check!! Waters were placed on our table within 1 minute if being sat down.... Check!!! Our server came and asked what our beverage orders were within 2 minutes after we got waters. She was friendly and already had multiple tables but still was very prompt.... Check!!! They have a lot of options for both breakfast and lunch foods. Since this was my first time, I chose the Sampler #3. Comes with 2 eggs, bacon, sausage links (huge by the way) and 2 french toast slices (actual whole bread slices and not 2 half bread slices). My order was decently priced and the portion size is great... Check!!! Food came in less than 10 minutes. This is for five people and the place is still packed. Food was nicely prepared and no complaints. Water and coffee were refilled without having to wait and not too often.. The waitstaff is very attentive...Check!!! The server was friendly, but not overbearing. We were able to have our breakfast and conversations with minimal interruptions, which is always a plus for me. Check!! I can't wait to try more from this place.

Karen R.

Yelp
We were on our way out of town and needed lunch and a pee stop. YELP was actually directing me to a different restaurant that we couldn't find.. Glad they made a mistake!! I had a Strawberry fields salad. It had beautiful chunks of feta, and grilled chicken strips..strawberries of course..fresh tomatoes and cucumbers.. And walnuts and cranberries. DELISH!! my husband had a Cobb salad. He said it was one one of best he's ever had. And you get a choice of a blueberry or cranberry muffin. Great service, too!! We will definitely come back here..

Yelp
Old school breakfast place. It defines the words "mom and pop". There are a lot of trendy spots opening up in the NW suburbs and its nice to get away from that once in a while. Overall experience was great. We were seated in a timely manner. The food was good. I had a skillet and it was a 4/5. I'm very particular with breakfast and dont give out 5/5 very often. Definitely a brunch spot you should check out.
google avatar

Chaitali S.

Yelp
Absolutely cute family owned breakfast place. It seems these are the places to be since COVID as they are managed really well - with customers and food. The quality in the service, taste and personal touch isn't compromised. On the contrary I loved how the server noticed that we had somewhat of a picky child and bought a nice warm freshly baked cranberry muffin on the house. My husband and I always appreciate the over and above customer service along with the quality of food. It's the best of both worlds. Would totally recommend this place for breakfast and brunch.
google avatar

Tom M.

Yelp
This place has really gone down hill since the new owners came in and ruined a great breakfast place. I have been going for years and their skillets are about half the size and still $12 which is a lot for breakfast food. The food also is different and in my opinion not nearly as good. The last 2 skillets I got were not only tiny but the potatoes burnt and almost inedible. Do yourself a favor and go across the street to Gus's Dinner
google avatar

Yelp
As my husband just said, "They give you a lot of food for almost nothing!" This place as an extensive menu; all items are reasonably priced and portions are large! I had a Denver omelette (no pepper, with tomato); it came with pancakes and hash browns. My husband had the biscuits and gravy. Initially I was concerned that meal would not be enough for him, but I was entirely wrong! It was huge (much like my meal). I recommend this place wholeheartedly! Service was prompt and we were in and out in no time even though it looked crowded.

Yelp
Why in the world does this place have high reviews!? Saturday mornings have kind of become 'let's go out to breakfast!' mornings for my husband and I. After our original destination fell through yesterday, we came here. When we walked in, the host was quickly rushing people together into groups to seat them, my husband and I included. I was a little bit confused, but glad to be seated right away although it was a tiny table in the middle of a tiny, crowded room. I sat in a seat that was facing a large, flat-screen television. I can understand why a television like that would be in a sports bar or low-key lunch spot, but it seemed so out of place here (especially because it was also broadcasting sports). There is no need for televisions here. Someone came up to us and asked if we wanted coffee. After saying no, the bowl of creamers was still placed on our table. Another bowl of creamers was suddenly placed on our table a few moments later. What the..? We reviewed the menu. Soon, our waitress came up. Actually, she just walked up to us with a blank expression on her face, her notepad ready, and said, "Ya ready?" No smile, no introduction, no questions, no description of any specials. Appalled, I had to restrain myself from blurting out, "Really!?" and walking out of the restaurant. My husband and I calmly placed our orders and the spent the next few minutes talking about the rushed employees and watching other people in the room. It seems we weren't the only ones that felt confused with the treatment from the staff. Then we noticed people getting their food. We placed our order before the table behind us, and the table next to us, and two tables down... and yet, we were the last to get our food. Again, what the!? It's not like we had complicated entrees. I think the guy behind me got the same thing I did. On the plus side, everyone's food did seem to arrive rather quickly, which is good. Even after all this, I was still willing to give this place another shot in the future if the food was good. Perhaps there was some reason that everyone was rushing and grumpy and we just came on a bad day. Was the food good? It wasn't. My skillet was flavorless. Absolutely boring. The potatoes were so bland. The vegetables were barely cooked. The toast was slightly burnt. Ugh. I did like my husband's pancakes. He didn't seem impressed with anything he ate, though. For a veggie skillet (me), two pancakes + two sausages + two bacons (him), orange juice (him), and tip, our bill was $26. The orange juice was $3.50 for a 12oz glass! What a rip-off. I really did not want to pay for anything, nor did I want to leave the waitress the 15% tip that we left her. She clearly did not care about us. We left very disappointed. I had slightly high expectations because of the many good reviews (and local breakfast joints are always fun, right?). I was planning to give this place two stars since there wasn't anything really atrocious, but after re-reading the review I wrote, I'm giving it one. There is no reason I'd ever want to go back.

Yelp
Late Saturday morning after running errands calls for a little breakfast. I wasn't sure that I felt like the usual standbys so we ventured a little further north to stop in at the Red Apple. This is a pretty large restaurant which meant that even though the parking lot was just about full, we didn't have to wait for our table. Score! My husband was thrilled that he could watch college football with a choice view right from his seat. I really was leaning toward some crunchy almond French toast served with bananas and caramel, but I really am counting my calories and I think that would have put me at the limit until about Tuesday. Instead, I opted for a chicken salad sandwich on sourdough toast. He chose corned beef hash, two poached eggs, hash browns and a side of pancakes instead of toast. My sandwich was really good. I stuck to half and that was plenty. I was surprised to find the toast was buttered, so while it tasted great, the menu didn't provide a heads up on that one. The French fries were very good, but most of those came home for someone else to enjoy. His poached eggs were just right! The service was very attentive. The whole visit really was a pleasant surprise. I am confident that we will head in again.

Yelp
One hour wait at a different pancake joint brought us to this hidden gem. Service was great, staff was sooo nice - welcoming you with a full pot of coffee at your table. I had the Greek scrambler, it was very good (big portion and a lot of feta cheese). My son had pancakes and really liked them. Hope to be back one day!

Yelp
We still love the restaurant. But mostly bc of our server and the hostess. So far there's too many changes with the new ownership. This has been a staple in the community and in our family for a couple years now. Things are slowly changing and not for the better. To be honest, if the hostess or our server left, we probably will too... "If it's not broke don't fix it"

Yelp
This place is awesome. Everything I want from a breakfast place. We were seated quickly and served right away, which was awesome with three young (and hungry) kiddos. My wife had the banana nut French toast... Which was outstanding. It was French toast made from banana bread!! So good. I had the Denver omelet which was the size of a loaf of french bread!! And really tasty! We also got some biscuits and gravy to share at the table, and they disappeared quickly. Kids had the pancakes and gobbled them up. Serving sizes were pretty large, so we'd probably order less food next time. Awesome place. Nice staff. Would love to go again when we are in the area!!

Yelp
I'll start by saying that one issue I have going out to eat for breakfast is that I generally don't like eating eggs. That automatically means that the majority of the menu at any place serving breakfast has dishes I wouldn't order. So I usually get something like pancakes, and while they can be filling, such a meal is lacking in sides like fruit or a bagel. I could run up a large bill if I ordered those sides, because they are usually a la carte, instead of being included as they would if I ordered an egg dish. With that said, I appreciate the offerings at this restaurant. The first time I went there, in September 2020, I noticed they had French toast topped with vanilla yogurt, granola, and berries. Having that for breakfast felt more like a complete meal, because of all that it contained, and it was filling. It had a nice sweet flavor with all the toppings, and I didn't even use the syrup. The second time I went there, in April 2021, I got pancakes, with the same toppings as the French toast I had previously. Again, I didn't use the syrup because of all the nice, sweet, and flavorful toppings. The food was served pretty quickly, too. And my uncle and I were seated right away upon entering So I enjoyed going out to eat for a breakfast dish here because of these offerings, and I would enjoy going there again.
