Why in the world does this place have high reviews!?
Saturday mornings have kind of become 'let's go out to breakfast!' mornings for my husband and I. After our original destination fell through yesterday, we came here.
When we walked in, the host was quickly rushing people together into groups to seat them, my husband and I included. I was a little bit confused, but glad to be seated right away although it was a tiny table in the middle of a tiny, crowded room. I sat in a seat that was facing a large, flat-screen television. I can understand why a television like that would be in a sports bar or low-key lunch spot, but it seemed so out of place here (especially because it was also broadcasting sports). There is no need for televisions here.
Someone came up to us and asked if we wanted coffee. After saying no, the bowl of creamers was still placed on our table. Another bowl of creamers was suddenly placed on our table a few moments later. What the..?
We reviewed the menu. Soon, our waitress came up. Actually, she just walked up to us with a blank expression on her face, her notepad ready, and said, "Ya ready?" No smile, no introduction, no questions, no description of any specials. Appalled, I had to restrain myself from blurting out, "Really!?" and walking out of the restaurant.
My husband and I calmly placed our orders and the spent the next few minutes talking about the rushed employees and watching other people in the room. It seems we weren't the only ones that felt confused with the treatment from the staff.
Then we noticed people getting their food. We placed our order before the table behind us, and the table next to us, and two tables down... and yet, we were the last to get our food. Again, what the!? It's not like we had complicated entrees. I think the guy behind me got the same thing I did. On the plus side, everyone's food did seem to arrive rather quickly, which is good.
Even after all this, I was still willing to give this place another shot in the future if the food was good. Perhaps there was some reason that everyone was rushing and grumpy and we just came on a bad day.
Was the food good? It wasn't. My skillet was flavorless. Absolutely boring. The potatoes were so bland. The vegetables were barely cooked. The toast was slightly burnt. Ugh. I did like my husband's pancakes. He didn't seem impressed with anything he ate, though.
For a veggie skillet (me), two pancakes + two sausages + two bacons (him), orange juice (him), and tip, our bill was $26. The orange juice was $3.50 for a 12oz glass! What a rip-off. I really did not want to pay for anything, nor did I want to leave the waitress the 15% tip that we left her. She clearly did not care about us.
We left very disappointed. I had slightly high expectations because of the many good reviews (and local breakfast joints are always fun, right?). I was planning to give this place two stars since there wasn't anything really atrocious, but after re-reading the review I wrote, I'm giving it one. There is no reason I'd ever want to go back.
