"This cozy newcomer in gritty downtown Barcelona reminds us what a real boutique hotel is meant to feel like. Ronda Sant Antoni sits on the border of the trendy Sant Antoni neighborhood, the considerably scruffier Raval district and the queer-friendly part of the Eixample, known as the Gaixample. The rooms get plenty of natural light from the large, street-facing windows, while the top-floor suites are well worth splashing out on for their private terraces and open-air bathtubs. The rooms have an overall snug feel, with textured walls and warm fabrics, as well as plenty of details that hark back to the Catalan art nouveau, or modernist movement, from the vaulted ceilings, to the geometric hydraulic floor tiles, and French-style balconies. Bathroom amenities are by Natura Bissé. This is an ideal base for young people with an interest in nightlife and trendy bars and restaurants." - Gemma Askham, Isabelle Kliger

"This delightful, 43-room boutique hotel was born just over a year ago, out of the renovation of a late nineteenth-century building where the Buenavista restaurant had stood since 1918." - The MICHELIN Guide

"What began just over a hundred years ago as a family-owned restaurant in Barcelona, in a central location where El Raval meets L’Eixample, is now a stylish and memorable boutique hotel." - Mark Fedeli

"Why book? This cozy newcomer in gritty downtown Barcelona reminds us what a real boutique hotel is meant to feel like. Set the scene “A new luxury boutique hotel? In Ronda Sant Antoni?,” is what my friend said when he heard about this place. To claim that this is not the most upscale part of town is an understatement. But while you’d be advised to keep your wits about you if you are planning on wandering about after dark, there’s something refreshing about a chic hotel opening here in one of Barcelona’s grittiest downtown neighborhoods. The backstory The building that houses Antiga Casa Buenavista (which translates as old Buenavista house) has been in the Molleví family for a little over a century - since 1918 to be precise. Back in the 1920s and 30s it was the popular Buenavista restaurant, a meeting place for the artists and performers who frequented the area known for its theaters and cabarets. The restaurant closed in 1979 and the building became a residential block, remaining that way until 2013, when the current generation of owners decided to convert it into a boutique hotel - and to revive the old “casa de comidas”, or informal eating house, on the ground floor. The rooms Barcelona loves mixing historic features with modern design and this building is no exception with its original façade and contemporary interior. The 250-square-foot Ronda rooms are popular, with their outdoor balconies and views of the Eixample district. But if you’re ready to splash out, the Superior Buenavista suites are well worth an extra hundred-or-so euros. Set on the top floor of the hotel, they have direct access to the rooftop pool, and, most impressively, private terraces with lots of greenery, seating and an outdoor bathtub. They sell out quickly, though, so book well in advance. Food and drink While the hotel is still under the radar, the same can not be said for the restaurant, which has already turned into a bit of a hotspot. Paying homage to the original Buenavista restaurant, this is a place to try the most classic of Catalan “grandma” dishes like roast chicken cannelloni or a hearty stew of baby squid with chickpeas. All the ingredients are seasonal and sourced from local producers - via the nearby Sant Antoni covered market - just like they were in the old days. The neighborhood/area Ronda Sant Antoni sits on the border of the trendy Sant Antoni neighborhood, the considerably scruffier Raval district and the queer-friendly part of the Eixample, known as the Gaixample. Be warned: the vibe is very different depending on which way you go. However, since pickpocketing is rife across Barcelona, you’d be advised to keep a close eye on your belongings everywhere in the city—not just here. Raval is a great choice for nightlife, vintage shops and specialty coffee, while Sant Antoni is all about the hip restaurants and natural wine bars, or head up the street for some of Barcelona’s best LGBTQ+ bars and clubs. The service True to the boutique hotel ethos, Antiga Casa Buenavista has a genuinely friendly vibe. Staff go out of their way to be helpful without being overly deferential and there are plenty of nice touches in place, from electric scooters and mopeds (free if you choose to skip a day of housekeeping - more on that below) and walking tours of the Gothic Quarter with a certified guide every Saturday morning. Eco effort Sustainability is a priority here. A domotic system is in place to minimize energy use for lights and air conditioning. The hotel is paperless, has installed aerothermal heating and solar panels and there are no single-use plastics. The products in the mini bar are locally sourced and several support local social responsibility projects.A fun detail for guests staying for several nights is that they may choose to forfeit a day of room cleaning in exchange for complimentary use of an electric scooter, or moped, or to sponsor the planting of a tree, as part of the Hotels for Trees initiative. Accessibility All areas are accessible by elevator, while one of the ground-floor Galería Raval rooms is also wheelchair accessible.Anything left to mention? This is an ideal base for young people with an interest in nightlife and trendy bars and restaurants, but maybe less so for families looking for outdoor activities, or proximity to the beach." - Isabelle Kliger

Stayed here for the last leg of our trip. Great location with everything we could need in walking distance. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms well maintained and sound proof windows and doors. Nice small terrace with cold pool to dip in after a long day of exploring city. Lovely bar/ restaurant for snacks and cocktails, huge breakfast spread. Appreciated the aromatherapy in the rooms, and the lounge for relaxing outside the small rooms, made us feel at home. Staff helped us promptly with all requests, with a smile. Can’t wait to go back!

Beautiful and sophisticated, the hotel is just a glory to behold. The restaurant exudes Havana-esque opulence. The service from the hotel is warm, personable, so wonderfully professional and accommodating... we felt pampered and catered to the entire time! I loved the hotel, although I felt the room's design was impractical. We had nowhere to place our luggage, as the bed consumed almost all of the space in the room so if my luggage was open, it would block the narrow entry to the bathroom. There are spaces under the bed, but if your luggage is large, it will not fit. Even so, I would say that was a mild inconvenience, amply made up for by the hotel's exquisite ambiance. Recommended!

This hotel was very good! It looks amazing and is very clean. Of course when you’ve got a receptionist like David that greats you with your name and a big smile you feel very welcome. Also the location was perfect for us to explore the city. The rooms were beautiful and very clean!

what to say... considering the design it is one of the best hotels in Barcelona. But that's all. The reception service was too bad, no warm welcome, no extra services. . but the worst is the location! The place is in the dirty neighborhood of El raval - you can see a lot of homeless people around and when I asked the reception if this area is safe, I got the answer: here yes, but don't go behind the hotel. (!!) Very nice. So no, never ever again. But what is really good is the hotel restaurant (but always very full so there is a lack of options to get a place there), but the restaurant manager did a great job and was very helpful.

Truly a fantastic boutique hotel! So many thoughtful details. Comfortable room and kind service. Cute vintage shops and cafes nearby. Pool was great for taking a dip and laying out, though seating is limited! Breakfast in the morning was well executed and delicious. Only criticism (which is not the hotels fault): as a young woman traveling alone, I will say the area may not feel the safest to walk around alone in at night. Lots of dark alleys and corners nearby where tourists can easily get picked on. It is gritty, so be vigilant!

We could not be more delighted with our stay at Antiga Casa Buenavista. Everyone at the hotel was extremely accommodating and friendly, especially David. We truly felt at home. We booked three rooms (Ronda, Goya and Superior) for 5 nights each, and would recommend all of them. All the rooms were very clean, well appointed and extremely comfortable. The restaurant is also very good for breakfast, as well as tapas. The food is delicious. The hotel is in a great location, right in the center of Barcelona. Can walk to many places quite easily and there is a Metro station very nearby. Easy access to all the city has to offer, and the hotel is very helpful in securing access to the top attractions - including FC Barcelona tickets. We highly recommend the Antiga Casa Buenavista when in Barcelona, and we hope to return soon!

What a gorgeous boutique hotel! I have so many wonderful things to say about this gem - everything about our stay was beyond perfect! We decided to stay here to celebrate our anniversary + birthday weekend and it was the best decision we ever made! The service from the staff (especially - Federico, David and Carlos who were working during our stay) was exceptional. It was the best service we have EVER received. The rooms, the cleanliness, the rooftop pool, the location, the restaurant, the food (breakfast included) and the design of the hotel were outstanding. Most importantly, the little details you guys focused on to make our stay so special such as a slice of cake for my birthday and wine for our anniversary was so thoughtful and appreciated. Thank you very much for making our stay memorable, we look forward to visiting again!

Super friendly team. They really made us feel welcome and were so helpful. Rooms are clean, modern and lovely and the hotel is located in a perfect position to the main spots in Barcelona. They also have a pool too which came in handy to break up the sightseeing during the warmer days. Highly recommend.
