Antojitos Colombianos New Location | Eater San Diego

"A longtime favorite for Colombian cuisine in Logan Heights is moving to a new location: Antojitos Colombianos will uproot from its kitchen at 2851 Imperial Avenue—where it has operated for the last decade—to a newly furnished 1,000-square-foot restaurant space at 2040 Imperial Avenue, closer to downtown San Diego. Proprietor Javier Rodriguez said the move was prompted by the landlord's high asking price for the old lease; the restaurant will continue at 2851 Imperial Avenue until February 6 and is expected to reopen at the new location in mid-February with a virtually unchanged menu, with only a few possible adjustments. In business since 2010, it specializes in Colombian and Latin American cuisine and is famous for savory Colombian-style empanadas made from corn flour and deep fried and for its traditional bandeja paisa platter, which includes beef steak, pork belly, rice, beans, and a fried egg. The eatery also features a retail section stocking coffee, sweets, artisan crafts, and other items from Colombia, and is one of two Colombian restaurants within the City of San Diego’s limits." - Mario A. Google
Came back from vacation in Colombia and craved the food. Found this gem and Antojitos Colombianos did not disappoint. Tried the bandeja, arepas, empanada, soup, and dessert all delicious. Try this place for amazing tasting Colombian food.

Google
Perfect spot if you want a good lunch. The cazuela was amazing, excellent service. Empanadas are authentic. Feels like home and also they have Colombian candy

Google
The food was great. Id say a 5-15 minute wait time for the food to be made as well. Grape soda? Yes Empanadas? Yes A plate of food that I knew nothing about but it was amazing? Yes Sample their coffee? Yes Complaints? No

Joseph E.

Google
$1.99 for two “beef” empanadas with almost no beef. Flavor? Like hot Lay’s chips. Refused a soda after spotting sucralose & acesulfame — staff laughed, disrespected me. Garbage food. Garbage service.

Google
What a great experience! Food flavor was very authentic, good portions, great service. We had chicharrón, arepas, empanadas, cazuela de fríjoles, patacón, maduro and arróz con leche. After full bellies we were surprised with a couple of tinticos (black coffe) that really hit the spot. I'm glad we picked this place while visiting this area in California. Will definitely be back.

Google
This was my first time visiting and I was so impressed! The food was absolutely amazing – full of flavor, fresh, and delicious. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portions. The service was excellent as well, the staff was attentive and welcoming from start to finish. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Colombian food. Definitely a five-star experience!

Google
Food was good and priced about where I would expect for Colombian cuisine. Most items came out quickly but being outside it did seem we were forgotten about. Nice interactions when server did come by. Only reason for sitting out was we brought our dog which was great that they allowed.

Leidy A.

Google
The service was very poor. We felt rushed throughout our visit and had to constantly ask for basic things like utensils, extra plates, cups, and water—items we had already requested at the start of our order. The waitress’s facial expression and tone of voice made us feel like our requests were a bother. The food was very disappointing. The arroz con pollo had a rancid smell, and the bandeja paisa was not good at all—the chicharrón was very dry, the fried egg was overcooked, the carne asada was full of fat, and the plantains were burned on all three bandejas paisas we ordered. The pandebonos were hard, and the almojábana was also quite bad. The only good items were the empanadas, jugo de mora en leche, and jugo de maracuyá en agua. We came all the way from Los Angeles because four years ago the food was delicious, and we were hoping to have the same great experience. Unfortunately, this time we left very disappointed. To make matters worse, the bathroom was dirty and very unpleasant.

Yelp
The ajiaco was so delicious. Definitely hit the spot. The empanadas and ají were also very good

Yelp
You haven't visited Antojitos, take sometime to visit, you will not be disappointed. Their food is incredible. We always have such a wonderful experience. There is plenty of seating and great music playing. My go to plate is bandeja paisa, an order of empanadas y arepa con queso. Que RICO!!
google avatar

Shay M.

Yelp
I can't get enough! Absolutely love love love the food here. The Bandeja Paisa is now my go to, and is a lot of food for ~$25.99. The plate comes with a corn cake, avocado, rice, beans, a beautiful sausage, carne asada, and f The carne asada is so good, and is typically nice and tender. Don't listen to me, try it for yourself!!! What are you waiting for? Go!

Yelp
Cute family-owned spot - I've been here twice, and the owner is absolutely spot-on with service! That alone will keep me coming back, but the food is amazing too. I first came about two years ago, so I can't recall exactly what I ordered, but it was good enough to bring me back. The service was incredible - the owner is super sweet and even offered an espresso shot during our visit, which I loved because I'm huge on coffee. This time, I asked him what was good from the popular menu, and he recommended Bisteck a la Criolla. I had my eye on it from the beginning, and it did not disappoint. The bistek was cooked perfectly, the onions and tomatoes were packed and flavorful, and the sauce made my already perfect rice taste next-level. I had it with fried plantains (bomb and sweet) and the little corn cake they serve on the side - 100% satisfied with my meal. I'll definitely be back to try more of these popular dishes, and I've got my eye on the arroz con leche next. I also had two empanadas, which were so good I wanted more! If you go, definitely try them. 10/10 The restaurant itself is huge and decorated nicely - really cozy and inviting. I asked him to make a popular house-made drink, and even though I didn't catch the name, it was a solid 10/10. Parking is a little tricky since the structure is small, but it's definitely worth checking out!

Yelp
This restaurant feels like a hidden gem in an unexpected non flashy small parking lot. When you go inside there are a few tables and it isn't as small as expected, though every space is filled with a seat for a possible patron. The servers are friendly and I like that they will be servers but also catch a game on screen. You sort of feel like you are sitting in a big family dinner. The food portions are also big. They have classics like Bandeja Paisa, patacones con pescado and baked goods like empanadas. Finger licking good. It has become my family's go to spot in the area when we crave food from South America.
google avatar

Nell E.

Yelp
Antojitos has a range of authentic Cuban eats! their baked goods are light, fluffy and flavored just right! Lots of seating including a couple of smaller tables outside.
google avatar

Pam B.

Yelp
What a great find! We are in this area often visiting family but never knew about this joint until it popped up on a feed. Probably one of the best South American food I have had even compared to what I had in Florida. Cute restaurant, nice set up with a little store with Columbian snacks and drinks. Our waiter Casiano was awesome! Very friendly and quick. We got the picada platter, arepa con queso and coffee. 100% worth it. There was just 2 of us and I am sure all of the left over will be enough for the whole family tomorrow. Don't forget to ask for hot sauce! It's like liquid gold with the meats from the platter. You must get the amazing aromatic coffee! Sure, I'll be up all night from it, but I will absolutely order it again. All of this and our bill was @$60. We are coming back, probably really soon, as soon as we can finish our left overs that is!
google avatar

Roselia G.

Yelp
Our first time having Colombian food, and even though we haven't had it before, this really tasted authentic. It's a semi-small restaurant with an even smaller parking lot. You gotta try the Colombian soda. It's red, really good, and has a slight cherry flavor to it. We started with a deed fried empanada, which was made with a corn tortilla stuffed with bed and potato's. It's served along with a delicious salsa to dip. We then shared the House Special Bandeja Paisa. It's a huge plate consisting of a thin sirloin steak over a bed of rice and beans, with a side of fresh chicharron, fried plantain, cornmeal cake, an avocado slice, then topped with a fried egg. It was all amazing!
google avatar

Annie S.

Yelp
A pure Colombian vibe at this restaurant, super attentive staff, they even offer a cafecito (small black coffee). We had some empanadas which were much larger than we expected and super tasty, great fresh ingredients. Also had a passion fruit juice in mango and it was divine! We will definitely be going back for more Colombian dishes.
google avatar

Mickie T.

Yelp
Great food, great service, brought me back home for a bit! If looking for authenticity it's the place to go
google avatar

Nayeli N.

Yelp
I'm not familiar with Colombian cuisine, so I decided to try this place, and I was highly satisfied! The food was sooooo delicious! My friend and I shared a Bandeja Paisa and some empanadas. The portion for the bandeja is large, so we were glad we shared. We also got a pitcher of lemonade and it was so yummy - perfectly sweet! The service was good and the restaurant was clean. To the left of the register, they have a variety of Colombian snacks for sale, and to the right, a big flat screen for customers to watch soccer. I will absolutely come to this place again!
google avatar

Carmella M.

Yelp
Good food. Good service. Love their arepa de queso and desmachada. My friend ordered the Lengua and loved it. The only complaint is it seems their desmachada is inconsistent sometimes. One time I came it was in larger shredded chunks and a little dry. Maybe it was an off-day. But other than that, if I want Colombian food, this is the spot!
google avatar

Pilar V.

Yelp
This place ROCKS!!! Looking for delicious Colombian food, good service and chill vibes then this is YOUR restaurant. Unassuming and yet the food makes it own statement. Come on by. Bring family and friends. It won't disappoint .
google avatar

Adriana C.

Yelp
The food was nice but the server was just ok. Need to be less shy. More welcoming. The place seems nice until you go to the bathroom and it doesn't seem to be clean, no paper towels to dry your hands. Floor and walls dirty. If this is the bathroom I don't want to think about the kitchen. I hope I'm wrong. We ended up here by chance, I saw other plates being served and everybody seemed pleased with the food. Prices reasonable. Good flavor. Suggesting Colombian aji to be on a side. That's an important part of the Colombian cuisine. (Colombian salsa) Cool music. A young man (assuming the owner) came to ask if everything was okay. Very nice, friendly a plus. I like the menu, just a few plates perfect to choose from. The less options the fresher the food will be (just my thoughts) I had lulo juice (very good) and calentado. Arepas were amazing and my daughter got a buñuelo. Very good!! There are just not many options of Colombian food in the area, so I would say, take advantage of it, keep the restaurant impeccable and your business will grow. I will definitely comeback and recommend it.
google avatar

Stephanie V.

Yelp
The food is very good. Service is pretty fast Coffee is very strong, I wouldn't advise you to get it unless you like it strong.

Yelp
Me and the wife showed up early and waited, and I am glad we did. It got busy as soon as they opened it was the lunch rush so the Ambiance of the restaurant was feeling like I was in Colombia with all the things they had to offer. Our server was very helpful and thoughtful, he made us feel at home, but I forgot his name I ordered the bandeja paisa was so good and plentiful, I almost ate it all. My ordered the Ajiaco and I had a taste it was so good too. We were impressed because the other restaurants we tried had no flavor. We do recommend this little gem in San Diego.
google avatar

Cristina A.

Yelp
Best empanadas ever just like I get in Colombia they also have aguardiente there. It's not the prettiest restaurant but the food is amazing
google avatar

Anasofia T.

Yelp
There aren't a ton of Colombian restaurants in San Diego but this is definitely the best one! The portions are large and the service is great. I had the Ajiaco which was perfectly seasoned and came with all the toppings and side (capers, cream, avocado & rice.) My boyfriend ordered the bandeja paisa which came with rice, beans, steak, fried pork rinds, fried plantains, and a big cheesy arepa. The rice had a bad bit too much cumin but overall it was really good!

Jackie N.

Yelp
Super good fooood!!!! Loved the soursop drink Definitely purchasing from here again.

Yelp
Antojitos colombianos is a good place to get some of the traditional dishes from Colombia I recommend The staff was really nice the welcome you with open arms and the service was great they were always there if I needed anything ambiance feels like your back at home
google avatar

Grace N.

Yelp
4.5 stars Stopped by after an afternoon of climbing at Asylum, as recommended by one of their staff. Antojitos is a small, homey restaurant in the same parking lot as the Amazon hub. It's colorfully decorated inside with plenty of small tables. The service was very friendly and prompt. We ordered the Bandeja Paisa (Columbian platter) that came with rice, beans, fried pork belly, steak, sausage, and plantains. Everything was very flavorful! We also got a half order to beef stew (Sancocho) which came with a side of rice and avocado. It was super homey and comforting. The beef was tender and the Yucca was the perfect texture. Our only complaint is that they don't have hot sauce, but perhaps columbian cuisine isn't generally eaten spicy. If you like spice, bring yourself some hot sauce or chili oil when you come. Overall, we're super happy we stopped by for dinner. We'll see you again soon, antojitos!

Yelp
There are very few restaurants that give a taste of home and let me tell you.........this one definitely delivered. The empanadas were delicious and after a long period of going back and forth, I settled on the fried fish. That meal hit the spot. The fish was properly seasoned and fried just right. I destroyed that fish and went home absolutely satisfied. I was going to try Colombian food and ended up walking down memory lane. I highly recommend this spot. Nice staff and outstanding food.

Erika A.

Yelp
I'm Colombian and totally recommend to try empanadas and bandeja paisa. Soy colombiana y recomiendo que prueben las empanadas y bandeja paisa.
google avatar

Jiselle T.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. The Colombian food is delicious and they have a lot of different authentic dishes. The service was also very friendly and parking was pretty easy to find. 1. Empanadas 2. Ajiaco 3. Bandeja paisa I would recommend all 3 mentioned above!
google avatar

Kyle V.

Yelp
This is a true Colombian restaurant. Fantastic dishes and the wait staff is very helpful. We sat and talked for a while after our meal and they gave us a complimentary coffee to enjoy while we sat. Very thoughtful. They were even playing Carlos Vives! Great ambiance with all the merchandise.

Yelp
This is my very First time eating Columbian food. I have never been to this part of San Diego, but it was reccomended by a friend for my Chrome wheels in this area and instead I ended up in this Restaurant called ANTOJITOS COLOMBIANOS Since we are already in the area and already hungry, we gave this place a try. I don't know their food, so I just tried something Familiar to us and got the following: *BANDEJA PAISA - Columbian Platter consisting of white rice and beans, fried EGG, grilled SIRLOIN STEAK, fried PORK RINDS, Fried PORK SAUSAGE, and fried yellow PLANTAIN. *PICCADA - Sampler platter full of deep fried meats having mostly PORK: PORK LOIN, COLUMBIAN PORK SAUSAGE, BABY PORK RIBS, PORK LOIN, POTATOES, and PLANTAIN, garnished with tomatoes, onions, and lemon. *SANCOCHO - Beef soup This place is spacious with friendly staff. And since a few of our orders took time to cook, we had a Complimentary Empanada to try and it was good. Our food came all at the same time. My Son loves anything Pork, so he enjoyed eating them. I Love the Soup, it has a thick broth with lots of meat. I enjoyed their Platter the most, there's lots of Meats on it and this plate has huge portions. I dont know their other foods here, but if I wanted everything mostly pork, I think this place has a lot of them.
google avatar

Zoe R.

Yelp
Amazing small restaurant. Server was super helpful and didn't point to the most expensive, but asked what I felt like to make a recommendation. Definitely didn't disappoint! Food tasted delicious.

Nikki R.

Yelp
This place is great! Javier was extremely welcoming and helpful. He spent time explaining the menu to us and helping us pick dishes that were right for us. :) restaurant is clean and well designed. Overall a great experience. The food is so good we couldn't wait to dig in, kept forgetting to take pictures of the appetizers because they looked too good to wait! Aaaaand they tasted even better than they looked !
google avatar

Honest Review S.

Yelp
Very good Colombian food. We got the empanadas, bandeja paisa, fried appetizer platter, and tostones. All delicious. Waitress was amazing. Will definitely go back!

Sara B.

Yelp
Excellent restaurant! Had lunch today, spacious location. Service was quick and helpful. Management is friendly and welcoming. Food was fantastic, very authentic cuisine. Will be bringing family back soon!

Yelp
Guys. There is not a lot of South American cuisine here that is not changed to appease the American pallet. Usually it's watered down and just not as good or authentic as you hope. This place is not that way. I am familiar with most of the food they serve here and everything I've had I loved. I have been able to try some dishes I was unfamiliar with and man I love this place. Large portions. Great food. Friendly staff. What more could you want?

Karol G.

Yelp
The food is too Grecy and the jugos are really sweet!! Also it's really expensive they charged us $32 for the service and the food for $100 and they even change you for the paying with card ... honestly don't recommend it's not worth it !! there is better restaurants. CUIDADO AQUI ROBAN ! no te avisan lo que cobran por el servicio!! There is no sign or anything to let u know !
google avatar

Nang L.

Yelp
There aren't many Columbian restaurants in the SD area. Luckily, here's one and it's a good one! I got tried the empanadas and the Bandeja Paisa. The empanadas was a crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The breading was made by of cornmeal. It was tasty. The Bandeja Paisa a great variety plate that gives a good sampling of the different items this restaurant has to offer. The beans were nice and creamy. The Carne asada was tender and flavorful. The chicharon was still juicy but the skin was a bit too chewy for me. The fried plantain and cornmeal cake were nice. The sausage was delicious. The platter was really good overall. I am definitely going to come back and try out their other items!
google avatar

Bernadette T.

Yelp
My first time visiting a colombian restaurant and I loved it!! Arepas are one of my favorite foods, and I had been trying to find some in San Diego. I got some here and it really hit the spot! food ordered: - empanada: corn pastry with potato & beef filling, comes with a side of acidic dipping sauce. so tasty, and came out perfectly hot!! I could eat 10 of these :) they are slightly small but I think worth trying - bandeja paisa: the colombian platter with TONS of food!!! white rice, beans, egg, thin cut sirloin steak, fried pork rind, colombian sausage, plantain, arepa, avocado. This ended up being 2 meals for me because the portion is HUGE! Everything was super flavorful. The dish is pretty heavy since its meat forward. My favorite parts are the fried pork rind (crispy and fatty), the sausage (very flavorful, I could taste the colombian spices), and the arepa (I added cheese in it!) This restaurant is between Logan Heights & downtown with a very small parking lot, so we had to find street parking. Service was really good (they still sat us 30 min before close, and were attentive). The space is clean and welcoming. I will definitely come back for more!!
google avatar

K N.

Yelp
Great food, fair prices, great atmosphere. After coming back from Colombia I craved the food so I went in a search for the local cuisine. Stumbled upon this place after getting recommended by some friends. The food is amazing and fairly priced. The juices are great. We ordered bandeja Paisa, sancocho, arepa con queso and an empanada. Plenty of food for 3 people though there was only 2 of us. Will definitely go again
google avatar

Lewie P.

Yelp
Had really high hopes for this place, but ended up highly disappointed. Empanadas and arepa were good, but steak was a little salty. The service was horrible. Literally sat there for a while before anyone acknowledged us. They do not offer water, instead will sell you a $2 water bottle. Place was not too busy for this experience. Very disorganized and unpalatable.
google avatar

Viviana G.

Yelp
My favorite Colombian restaurant! I love everything about this place, the service is great and the food even better. Ordered the baneja paisa like i usually do and also tried the chuleta de cerdo apanada, arepa con queso and empanada. The plates were huge so you definitely get your money's worth. Everything was 10/10 delicious. I didnt expect the chuleta de cerdo to be so juicy. It was well seasoned and perfectly fried. I came with my friend who's picky and she loved this place. So if you're thinking about coming here, give it a try and you won't regret it!
google avatar

Yelp
Colombian food in San Diego is scarce but if you're looking for sancocho, Bandeja paisa, arroz con Pollo, empanadas, go no further than this place. It does bring back memories of my childhood when it comes to food I was in a Playland. Colombian food is no joke. If you wanna fill up your belly on a good budget and this is a place to go look no further than this place you will have to work and appetite to finish your plate, so please visit this place!
google avatar

Sergio D.

Yelp
The food it's not great anymore. The service it's very slow. The kitchen experience delayed. Unfortunately are unable to expedite the meals in less than 30 minutes. The food it's not great anymore. Most of the portions are way to small and overpriced. Very few items are generous portions but are not delicious. Some items often are not available. The service it's no longer friendly either. I love their Colombian culture. No enthusiasm from management. It's a challenge to find a parking available.

Yelp
google avatar

Kasey B.

Yelp
My husband is from Colombia and we always find a Colombian restaurant wherever we are traveling. This place was so delicious!
google avatar

Nina S.

Yelp
Such a great place with friendly service and tasty homemade food. Ordered a bunch of apps to share for the table: Empanadas: perfectly fried little half moons with mostly beef filling, great size for sauce dunking (green, herbaceous) Arepa with queso and another with choclo (corn): our two favorites from the list, great cheese flavor and sweeter notes from the corn arepa, loved both, and also goes great with the same accompanying sauce Tostada con hogao: different from tostones since it was one big plantain and a little more salted than I'm used to, tasted better with it's own red sauce Papa rellena with chicken and rice stuffing: different from the cuban one's I'm more familiar with but still amazingly large and comforting Would come again!

Shadeh R.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! Javier helped us navigate the menu and recommended amazing dishes! It was our first time here and I will definitely be returning.
google avatar

Ingrid A.

Yelp
The food is amazing! The customer service is top notch! The ambiance is very chill and clean! Every time we're down in Southern California we like to try new Colombian restaurants and needless to say that this is probably the closest we've come to authenticity and our favorite one thus far. The portions are great! The food is savory and fresh. I highly recommend this place if you're in the area.

Rihanna P.

Yelp
The food is amazing, sabe a Casita!!! The ambience also is great, the service is good as wel
google avatar

Marie-Angeline F.

Yelp
The empanadas and the sancocho are absolutely delicious! The ambiance is Colombian ranchero, reminded me of Tolima but, Antojitos food is better. They moved from the original location and the restaurant's new location is off in a corner of a parking lot, so keep a lookout for some opened umbrellas so you don't miss it, otherwise, google maps will direct you correctly. If you're looking for AUTHENTIC Colombian dishes go to Antojitos Colombian Restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
Incredible food, incredible service definitely going back! Most delicious rice and beans and Yuka fries.

Yelp
This is the absolute BEST Colombian restaurant I've been to in California! I've eaten at a minimum of seven Colombian restaurants in Los Angeles County, but this jewel in San Diego is better than all of them. I'm not an expert on Colombian food, but I have eaten at some great restaurants in Cali and Cartagena, so I have a good idea about what quality Colombian food should taste like. Two days ago, my daughter and I arrived at Antojitos Colombianos and first noticed the colorful, spacious, and inviting environment. We were greeted warmly by the staff who were friendly and engaging. They answered all our questions in great detail and made recommendations to my daughter who is a vegetarian. We each started with a jugo de maracuyá en agua. It was sweet and acidic at the same time. They hit the perfect balance. The buñuelos, pan de bono, and empanada were also extremely flavorful. For the main course, my daughter ordered a plate with beans, rice, plátano maduro, avocado, and a delicious, cheesy arepa. Although she's a picky eater, she loved her food so much, that she asked if we could return soon. Today, we went back and enjoyed the amazing food once again! I ordered the bandeja paisa which was similar to my daughter's plate plus carne asada, chicharrón, chorizo, and a fried egg. It was a ton of food, possibly enough for two adults, and it was incredible! I must add that prices here are very reasonable considering how large the portions are. Every time we are in in San Diego, we will be heading back to Antojitos Colombianos. I recommend this restaurant enthusiastically to anyone who is looking for the most delicious and authentic Colombian food as well as excellent service.

Yelp
Great Colombian food, amazing service and it has the best ambience. Although it's located a bit far from where I live, I make it a point to go there when I'm craving Colombian food.
