Antojitos Mexicanos El Paisa - Review - Highland Park - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"El Paisa is a small counter-service spot off Figueroa with a huge menu of every Mexican lunch option imaginable. The kitchen makes homemade corn tortillas for its quesadillas and tacos and can whip up anything from huaraches, tostadas, sopas, and tortas within ten minutes. You enter the orange-painted room, give your order to the cook, and sit at one of the four tables as a Univision crime drama plays on the TV. Everything we’ve tried is quite tasty, including a chewy, loaded huarache with minced chorizo, crema, and queso cotija and their excellent milanesa torta with a slathering of mayo. If you don’t want to watch reruns of an early 2000s telenovela, call ahead to place a pickup order." - Sylvio Martins

I found this cute establishment after a hike at Lower Arroyo Seco in Wednesday morning with my friend Olivia. You have the option of eating inside or outside. Only drawback is that it’s a small restaurant so not ideal for big groups. We were so glad we decided to turn down all the other food options available in this neighborhood because Miriam, the only employee working here on this day was amazing. She made us an asada sope, a chorizo burrito & agua frescas!!! If you are ever in the mood for a handmade sope, this is the place to go for it. Everything tastes so fresh & delicious especially the refreshing Agua Frescas: We ordered Sandía & Guava flavors and they were off the hook. Another highlight of this establishment is the very reasonable prices. Super affordable!!! Thank you, Miriam for your excellent service and I hope this review brings you many more new customers,… This family establishment deserves it! And I will be back to try other items on the menu.

Delicious tacos! Loved the Asada and Adobada tacos. Great prices too. Will be back for more!

Unbeatable quesadilla at the best price you’ll find. Homemade tortilla and lots of lettuce, perfect!

Small counter for the most reasonably priced fare made consistently by the skilled staff. Not much seating but well worth the try.

What a delightful find! This Mexican restaurant not only impressed me with its vibrant ambiance but also with the top-notch service. The moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly, and the staff made sure we were comfortable throughout our meal. The food was a revelation. The burrito quesadillade queso was a flavor explosion, and the fajitas were sizzling and delicious. This place strikes the perfect balance between authenticity and innovation. I'll be recommending it to all my friends!

I love Antojitios and been coming here since before I could walk. I grew up in Highland Park and I'm so happy this is one of the last few gems that exist before the neighborhood changed. Parking sucks on Saturdays because of the lame flee market next to the parking lot but I usually avoid parking by Figueroa since I enjoy walking. Food is always what I expect and the sandwiches taste as good as the first time I took a bite when I was a kid. Small seating area but I know a lot of people that order to go.
