Well well well.
Take a seat and let's discuss.
As a native Houstonian, I'd always seen Antone's around but had never experienced it. Today however, I was doing a little shopping at David's Bridal next door so I decided to stop on it for a quick lunch.
I'm not going to pretend and say I didn't read the reviews but I wanted to try for myself! It was lunch time and they were busy but quick. I order the shrimp poboy, a drink and a cookie. SEVENTEEN AMERICAN DOLLARS. I am no stranger to paying a little more for good food so I moved on.
My food came out quickly, fresh and hot. I tried a french fry and while it was a nice potato filled concoction, it needed salt.
Little did I know, I would need to keep the salt shaker in my hand. The bread of the poboy was nice, light and fresh and before I ate I had read there weren't enough shrimp but I thought people were exaggerating. They weren't.
I had maybe 5 pieces of whole shrimp and three breaded crumbs on about an 8-inch sandwich.... for $17 in the year of our Lord. Really Antone?
If I could get over the lack of seasoned fries and the 5 shrimp, I could not get over the shrimp tasting like nothing. I bit into a poboy of air. NO FLAVOR. It was a lettuce sandwich with some lightly sprinkled shrimp with no flavor at all. And the remoulade sauce tasted like nothing as well.
Now, I'm not one to need over seasoned food but it didn't taste like anything. I was sorely disappointed.
But, I'm not done. I thought that I did have a redeeming cookie...WRONG.
HOW IS A COOKIE TASTELESS???? come on. A cookie. Tasting like 3 day old water.
I digress, I will NEVER try this place again and I usually give shops 2 times before I say something but I have seen enough. You try it at your own risk. You've been warned.
