"A glass display box showcases the crumb-coated dainties on offer at this matchbox-size shop in a humble south Kolkata neighborhood. There are spicy croquettes of boiled eggs sheathed in minced meat, thick slabs of breaded fish, and more. The fish fry is legendary, but the standout dish here is the fish roll: plump paupiettes of bhetki stuffed with a sprightly mixture of minced fish and prawns, rolled in crumbs, and fried to a crisp. Apanjan opens in the afternoon and closes at 9 p.m., but the best items sell out early." - Priyadarshini Chatterjee

❤️❤️❤️ Apanjan ❤️❤️❤️– The Crown Jewel of Kolkata’s Fish Fry Scene👑👑👑 If Kolkata had a Hall of Fame for legendary street food joints, Apanjan would secure its spot without breaking a sweat. Tucked away near Kalighat Metro Station (Gate No. 1), this little eatery is a pilgrimage spot for fish lovers, especially those who worship the holy grail of authentic Bhetki fish fry. 📍Getting There – A Fish Lover’s Shortcut to Happiness Finding Apanjan is as easy as finding a Bengali debating over "rosogolla vs. Misti Doi"😋😋😋 —just walk a minute from Kalighat Metro Gate no. 1 or let Google Maps be your guiding star. But be warned: once you’re close, the aroma of golden-brown fried goodness will pull you in faster than a Bengali spotting an off-season hilsa! #### The Star of the Show – Bhetki Fish Fry Apanjan doesn't just serve fish fry; they elevate it to an art form. And guess what? They offer it in three sizes—Small, Medium, and Large —because why should happiness come in one size? Naturally, I went for the Large Fish Fry (because why hold back? And obviously size matters 😜😜😜), and oh boy, what a beauty! A thick, juicy Bhetki fillet coated in a crispy golden breadcrumb crust, served with a lone but noble potato wedge —probably the most underrated sidekick in culinary history. The first bite? A symphony of crunch and succulent fish melting together, proving once again why Apanjan’s fish fry is considered one of the best in Kolkata. #### Pro Tip: Catch the Fish Kachori Before It Disappears! If you’re dreaming of tasting their famous Fish Kachori, arrive before 4 PM or prepare for heartbreak. This delicacy has the tendency to vanish faster than a cricket ball hit by Sourav Ganguly in Eden Gardens. Sadly, I missed it this time, but there’s always a next visit (or ten!). #### Premium Taste, Premium Price - Here’s the thing: great food comes at a price. Apanjan isn’t cheap, but neither is the quality. So, if you’re expecting budget bites, adjust your expectations. But trust me, every penny spent here is a penny well-invested in pure gastronomic joy. #### Final Verdict – A Timeless Classic Despite its small size, Apanjan delivers big on flavors. The shop is always crowded, especially in the evenings, but their service is swift and efficient. I’ve been here multiple times, and their fish fry has never disappointed. One day, I plan to taste everything on their menu—but for now, my love affair with their fish fry continues. So, if you haven’t been to Apanjan yet, drop everything and go. Because in Kolkata, when it comes to fish fry, this place is as legendary as Satyajit Ray’s cinema and East Bengal - Mohun Bagan’s football legacy! 🏨Apanjan 😋Date of Visit: 8-Feb-2025 📍Address: 58, Sadananda Rd, Anami Sangha, Kalighat, Kolkata, West Bengal 700026

One of the most famous places in South Kolkata for Bengali fast food like fish fries, kabiraji, fish fingers, mughlai parota etc. Do not underestimate this shop for the small size and simple decor. Apanjon has won the hearts of many given the exceptional taste and fast service. One must try the fish fry or the fish kobiraji prepared with Kolkata Bhetki among other things. It ranks among the stalwarts like Mitra Cafe and Bijoli Grill in terms of fish delicacies. You can have it there, order a take away or simply order via the apps. There is no sitting arrangement however but the service is truly fast and prices average.

Typical bengali fast food centre beside the daily thoroughfare. The most famous dish is their fish fry ofcourse, so without hesitation we ordered it and was served within minutes. It was hot and served with onions and mustard sauce. The coating was minimal and crunchy, and the fish was white and tasty! Great experience, the behavior of the staff is also good, you can eat first and pay later! Highly recommended if you're in the vicinity some evening 😀

Apanjan is the authentic place to taste the original taste of Vetki Fish items, like Vetki Fish Fry, Fish Kabiraji, Fish Cutlets, Fish Finger, Vetki Fish Kachuri and many other foods. I tried their medium size Vetki Fish Fry and Egg Chop. Both were delicious. Must try shop for those who loves to taste the vintage or authentic taste of Fish.

"A Legacy of Great Taste - Apanjan Delivers Again" Apanjan has been a family favorite for generations. My grandfather was among its early customers when it first opened, and our family has continued this tradition over the years. Recently, I was delighted to see their stall at the Chete Puthe Mela, Santosh Mitra Square (Lebutala Park). I tried their Fish Kachori with Aloo Dum and the Pulao with Chicken Kasha. Both dishes lived up to the high standards that Apanjan is known for. The Fish Kachori was crispy on the outside and flavorful inside, perfectly paired with the mildly spiced and delicious Aloo Dum. The Pulao was fragrant and light, while the Chicken Kasha had a rich, well-balanced gravy with tender chicken pieces. Apanjan continues to stand out for its consistency in taste and quality. Whether dining at the restaurant or visiting their stall at the mela, the experience remains delightful. It’s not just food; it’s a piece of nostalgia and tradition served on a plate. Highly recommend trying their offerings if you spot them at any event or visit their restaurant—it’s a taste that truly lasts through generations.

The Fish Orly is a must try at Apanjan. The stuffing of Bengali Bhetki fish inside the Orly was simply awesome. Apanjan gives a lot of stuffing compared to other restaurants and cafes. We also had fish kabiraji, which was also good. But the main speciality of Apanjan is Fish Fry, ranging four sizes, small, medium and large, the prices of which are Rs 180, 200 and 230 respectively.

I had a doctor visit for my father recently at South Kolkata. While returning to the nearest Metro Station Kalighat, I opted to take some evening snacks from the famous Apanjan eatery. Here's what we ordered: Fish Fry- 5/5 This place is renowned for it's lip smacking original Bhetki Fish Fry. The quintessential evening snacks for every Bengali. I ordered the medium size fish fry with a thick layer of Bhetki fillling. They pair it with some cucumber onion salad, kasundi and some fried potato wedges that typically gets served here. Even though I bought it home and after heating, it was still tasting good. ---------------------------------------- Fish Kabiraji- 4/5 Fish Kabiraji was also exceptionally prepared with a thick fillet of Bhetki which is fried just like a fish fry but again coated in an egg wrap and fried. But sadly, the kabiraji lost it crunch being heated in a microwave. Better to taste it hot and crispy at the spot. ---------------------------------------- It's a must tried iconic bengali snack eatery if you love fish fry, cutlet and kabiraji.

I bought chicken and mutton moghlai paratha. Its very overpriced according to the taste and quality of it. The paratha had thick layers of flour which i felt little uncooked inside. Seeing the reviews I thought it would be splendid thinking about my childhood memories but its overhyped and not worth it. Surely can’t be the best Moghlai in Kolkata.
