"The name of this restaurant housed in a 17C presbytery means "happiness" in the Pataxó language and, indeed, a real sense of delight is cultivated in the form of ingredients from the market and the kitchen garden (seven permaculture vegetable plots!). Enjoy your meal in a stunning location overlooking the countryside, or on the charming terrace in the shade of the wisteria." - Michelin Inspector

The whole experience was wonderful. The food well thought out and prepared so beautifully. Gaby and her team were great. I was a solo diner, so I'm sure I'm not their target audience, but if I have one less than positive comment, it would be the time between courses could have been slightly less. Once again, for couples or groups, this timing was probably fine. I highly recommend this address.

I had one of the most memorable dinners of my life here. The another memorable dinner of my life was the last time I came here two years ago. There was a downpour of rain beating against the large windows which created a wonderful atmosphere. Eventually, the lights all went out, and the team arrived with candles to light this small, intimate restaurant entirely by candlelight it was magical. The food served here is beyond description. The chef puts her heart Into every dish and it is palpable if you’re paying attention to what you’re eating. This is a truly special, extraordinary experience.

We have been trying to get a table at Äponem for years, every time we we come down to the region, more or less once a year. It was well worth the wait. This is the most genuine food experience we have had. First of the food itself would be enough for a 5 star rating, then adding the view and the position of a restaurant in an old church looking down at the valley. But most importantly, the genuine feeling we got from Gabi and her staff. No prestige, just passion for what they do and inviting you to the feeling of being in their living room being catered top class food and never wanting the experience to end. Go try it. It is worth 7y wait.

My wife has written the following response. My husband and I enjoyed our cocktails on the terrace with the wonderful views and enjoyed the food in the restaurant which was exceptional and beautifully presented. However there were a couple of issues which we did not enjoy. Our table was unfortunately below the air conditioning unit which began to drip water which splashed on to my feet and trouser leg. The waitress tried to move the table a little and placed a towel below the drips but the towel soon became soaked and the water continued to splash o to my feet, my lower trousers became very wet. A second issue was the temperature in the restaurant which the air conditioning didn't seem to be coping with very well and the restaurant became unbearably hot, I could not wait to leave. Otherwise we enjoyed the restaurant and the waitresses were charming.

This is an incredible experience! Gaby really kindly squeezed us in after a cancellation on our honeymoon and it was the most memorable evening. The whole journey from the drive to the location, the welcome, aperitif outside and then extraordinary culinary experience that followed will be hard to beat! A whole hearted recommendation to this amazing team.

An absolutely wonderful gastronomic experience in stunning surroundings, hosted by an incredibly talented team. Located in an old presbytery on top of a hill overlooking a dammed lake the views are spectacular as one participates in a unique culinary journey created by a talented kitchen and complemented by some delicious and unusual wines selected by Gaby. This incredible find is a real culinary jewel and worth putting in every food connoisseur's diary!

where to start?! now we know how lucky we were to snag a table -- I was online and saw that the restaurant was booked out until the end of October, when a table popped in for the same day, a last minute cancellation. Communication with the restaurant was quick and perfect when confirming at such short notice. The drive through wild countryside was lovely, and once arrived it was immediately clear that this is a special place. We chose the "menu première approche" at 65 euros - there is a bigger menu at 85, and wine pairings at 40 and 55, respectively. On weekdays there is a lunchtime menu at 38 euros. The wine list is extensive, interestingly sorted by vintage, and well-priced. The entire experience was extraordinary. Service in the small dining room is polished while not being too stiff - lots of smiles from friendly and competent staff. Good advice given on the wine selection. And the food -- divine! There is no printed menu and it is all a great surprise, and we settled into it. Every one of the many small dishes was perfectly prepared, inventive is saying little, and fully accomplished. Each bite brought explosive flavors and textures -- surprise after surprise. Previous reviews talk about small portions - criticism I have seen frequently by people not used to service of multiple small dishes. We left more than full (and that was on the "small" menu....). We had nice local wine. Next time we will go for dinner, with the big menu and wine pairing -- if we are lucky enough to get a table!

Yesterday we were at Äponem again. I don't know how many times we've been there and it's always just as nice, delicious and the staff is fantastic. Yesterday they had an evening with wine and drinks and tapas. Everything was delicious! It's no surprise that the owner Gaby has been named France's best sommelier. The wines we had were of the highest class. The only thing that was disappointing was a table with guests who were both rude and threatening. However, the staff handled it in the best way possible.
