Gitano Opens at the Seaport With a Massive Restaurant - Eater NY

"A 400-seat, 24,000 square-foot restaurant in Flatiron, imported from London by the group behind Hutong, offering a modern dining experience." - Melissa McCart

NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"Aqua—a huge Flatiron restaurant with one Japanese menu, one Italian menu, and quite possibly the largest circular bar for miles—sounds like something you might hear described in a “Stefon” sketch on SNL. With over 400 seats, this spot is from the same restaurant group behind Hutong, as well as London’s Aqua restaurants. They’re putting pizzas and pastas alongside robata-grilled proteins and sushi in a clubstaurant setting—and all we really want to know is, is it too late to invest? " - will hartman

How to Order at Aqua, the New 400-Seat Italian Japanese Import From London - Eater NY

"The latest behemoth restaurant to open is Aqua, at 920 Broadway, near 20th Street in Flatiron, owned by David Yeo, who also owns Hutong. Until recently it was a furniture store. Now, shaped like a mallet, the main room sprawls around an oval bar, surmounted by massive rope sculptures that make it look like a ship without sails. A long wing with a 70-foot sushi bar shoots off perpendicularly toward a separate entrance on 21st Street. Aqua is actually a branch of a London restaurant, and it mounts two separate menus, one devoted to Italian food (“Aqua Roma”), the other to Japanese (“Aqua Kyoto”). Several dishes stand out for their novelty. One is Crystal Sushi, invented in Hong Kong at Shiro, one of the chain’s restaurants. It swaddles a core of raw fish with translucent flavored jelly instead of nori. Lobster bisque pizza is definitely worth trying, with a crust perhaps too puffy and yeasty, but with generous servings of lobster tail and claw meat." - Robert Sietsema

My colleague and I, we met at Aqua for a nice after work cocktail and dinner. We both really enjoyed our experience. Everyone was nice and particularly our server. The drinks and food were excellent. We had the rice dish and the sashimi platter. Big plus: the ambiance was super!

This is a huge restaurant! The decor was eye popping and I’m glad I went. They actually had a crowd on a rainy Wednesday night in Manhattan. The music was starting to go so don’t plan on a quiet night. I liked the food but didn’t love it. But let’s all agree that the presentation was beautiful. I live on the same block down the street but I won’t come again. We ordered from the Japanese side of the menu and I just feel that $100 a head with two drinks for 4 people and no desert or coffee was nuts. My wife’s fish was $51 and a small order of white rice was $8! No veggies on the side. Please! The service was good too although the waiter seemed very interested in selling us rice that cost $50. Come here on a weekend night if you want an experience but I’m going elsewhere

Aqua New York brings together the best of Aqua Kyoto and Aqua Roma offering a fusion of contemporary Japanese and Italian cuisines right in the heart of the Flatiron District. The atmosphere is grand and luxurious perfect for those looking to dress up and dine in style. One of the standout experiences is their Brunch on Broadway. Expect generous portions, bold flavors, and an unbeatable value. For just $25 more, you can indulge in unlimited sushi, so definitely come with an appetite. The friendly and knowledgeable staff are happy to recommend the perfect alcohol pairings to complement your meal. Whether you’re celebrating or just treating yourself, Aqua is an excellent choice for your next unforgettable dining experience.

Google
Absolutely wonderful place! The food was truly amazing — every dish was delicious, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. Special thanks to the staff — the service was outstanding: very friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which made our evening even more enjoyable. The only small downside was that the food took a bit longer to arrive than expected because the kitchen was busy with a banquet. But honestly, it was well worth the wait — everything tasted fantastic. We will definitely be coming back to try something new!

Went there for a late afternoon lunch on a Friday (was the two of us). We didn’t have any reservation was seating immediately. The service was spot on with the lovely waitress taking time to explain the menu. We ordered the spinach salad which was out of this world. There was a sesame sauce that came with it which was pure bliss ! I had the bento box and my friend the black cod. Both of them were just heavenly. I would definitely come back again. What would be interesting is to come back for evening rush hour and see if the service changes. But till then - loved it !

Google
They have it all - a huge space for parties, amazing drinks including NA options, solid wifi, kind and thoughtful staff. Would come back for happy hour. FYI I came on a Wednesday around 3pm with a friend and there was no wait at all. Surprised how empty it was knowing they opened 7 months ago. Seems like a hidden gem to me 🙂

Google
Beautiful restaurant! I went on a Saturday and they had a dj there. The portions are a bit small and note that some items on the menu are a bit pricy. The food was delicious and thankfully I don’t have the biggest appetite so it filled me up. Dessert was pretty good too and very unique. Especially the sweet caviar! I might go back again to try one of the expensive sushi rolls and see if it’s worth it 😆.

Google
Aqua New York was an amazing experience! I love that they offer two separate menus—one for Japanese cuisine and one for Italian. If you're wondering which is better, in my opinion, the Japanese menu was superior overall. However, the Mafalde was a standout dish, and the Scallop Crystal Sushi was absolutely delicious. I’d highly recommend this spot for couples, especially if one person is an adventurous eater and the other is a bit pickier—it has something for everyone! Plus, the location in the Flatiron District adds to the charm. I definitely recommend checking it out!

Yelp
We went for my daughter's birthday yesterday and it was phenomenal! Food was delicious and beautifully presented. The ambiance was great. Such a beautiful lively joyful place to spend our evening. Our server, Carmen was amazing. She was so friendly, knowledgeable and very attentive. Looking forward to going back again soon.

Yelp
ilia was amazing. Fantastic bartender and really good vibes for my night with my girlfriend and two other couples

Yelp
10/10 recommend. Great vibes and fire food. Enock provided some impeccable service and we enjoyed both the food / drinks.

Yelp
New restaurant in Flatiron! Based on the location and the grandiose décor, I was thinking the food might be mediocre... but it was great! First impressions... this place is MASSIVE for a New York restaurant. It almost feels like you could be over the bridge in New Jersey. There are tall columns decorated with ropes, but I'm not sure how this "ties" in with the Italian/Japanese theme (pun intended). Nevertheless, the food was fantastic. They explained that they have two kitchens - one Italian and one Japanese - and they are not connected. The first half of the menu is a full Italian menu and the back half is a full Japanese menu. We ordered a little from here, a little from there: - the crystal sushi - a "new genre of sushi" that includes a gelatinous layer over the top. It was actually very good. - scallops crudo: delicious - sashimi: great, but the server got our order wrong - spinach salad: genius to have steamed spinach sitting in a pool of peanut sesame sauce - risotto: great, but the flavor was a little mild. I think because it was supposed to have sausage in it, which would have given it a nice balance, but there was no sausage. - Then the Japanese lamb chops - wow!! My friend and I are both Greek and we LOVED it. Do not miss. - gelato and sorbet for dessert was great as well Excellent mocktail menu that I have to mention for the search engine. The service was just okay. Some good moments (taking our coats upon arrival) and some not-so-great (getting our order wrong), but overall a nice experience. I think this could be a great place to impress out-of-town guests, for large parties, or even event buy-outs. Could also dine here pre-theater, then hop on the R/W to quickly get to 42nd or 49th St.

Yelp
I was very intrigued to try Aqua after passing it multiple times and reading about it. The concept of Italian and Japanese food served in the same setting seems weird but I think the execution was well done. I stopped in on the night of the Super Bowl (on purpose! I don't watch the Super Bowl and I enjoy the empty streets and businesses every year on that day). As expected, the restaurant was pretty quiet with a handful of parties seated. The restaurant is MASSIVE. Like, it kept going all the way to back when I didn't expect it to. I was alone, but since the restaurant was not busy, they gave me a 4 person table so I had plenty of room. The menu is pretty extensive in both Japanese and Italian offerings. I opted to do the Restaurant Week special. For $60, edamame, miso soup, appetizer, entree and dessert which is a great deal. I am a vegetarian and the server told me the miso soup was not vegetarian so I could not partake in the soup. I suggest reworking this to be vegetarian in the future. The edamame was good and a nice start to the meal. For my appetizer, I had the seaweed salad which was presented with the spinach actually cooked together in a rectangle shape that you had to break apart. The sever poured the sesame dressing over the salad at the table. I had the eggplant pasta dish for my entree. It was very good! Really enjoyed this. Very flavorful. For dessert, I opted for raspberry sorbet. Standard sorbet, but good. Although, not sure if this was intentional or a mistake...but at the bottom of the bowl, there was parmesan cheese sprinkled? I stopped eating the ice cream half way through once I started eating into the cheese. Sorbet and cheese do not go together, lol . For a drink, I had the Hana Collins, which I assume is a play on a Tom Collins. I also enjoyed this drink. Drinks were $19+ and up. From the host to the server, I thought the staff was all friendly and attentive. Because the restaurant was pretty empty, management was very visible, walking around and asking how everything was. I think they were probably too visible though to the point of being awkward, kind of just standing there and staring at tables and staring at the staff. I guess it is good they are being present, that's important. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal here and would certainly come back. I like the idea of having Italian and Japanese food in the same meal, and it is not as weird as you would think. Both cuisines seemed to compliment each other. The restaurant itself is also gorgeous and large, which is not something you come across too often in Manhattan. This would be a good spot for a quick dinner, but also good for groups and dates. Something for everyone. One thing I suggest is to please put purse hooks on the bathroom doors. There are currently no hooks available and I had to put my bag on the floor.

Yelp
While visiting NY came here for dinner. It happened to be restaurant week. Three courses for $60, which is a DEAL! The atmosphere was pretty cool vibes and a number of birthday dinners going on. There was a DJ playing at a small station as soon as you come in. The decor of the restaurant was pretty vibey as well! The service from the hostess to the server was excellent. We were well taken care of and when there was a mishap was handled very professionally. Totally didn't take away from the experience. The food was okay, the shrimp was So salty (I'm pretty sure it was the sauce). The sushi rolls were pretty good and probably the highlight of the night they were fresh and well rolled. The rock shrimp was well cooked however the sauce was salty and the oxtail rigatoni was pretty good but also low on flavor. The sorbet assortment was a perfect way to end the night.

Yelp
Aqua is a large restaurant with a great vibe, fun and loud but you can still hear everyone at your table easily enough. Great acoustics and lighting! We were able to walk in early on a Friday night with a party of 4. There are effectively 2 different menus, one for Italian food and one for Japanese. This is not a fusion, just 2 menus slapped together which is interesting and slightly odd. The timing of the food was a bit odd as the sushi rolls came out at the same time and even before some of the appetizers. Overall food was good, the Japanese menu was a bit better overall, and the deserts were inventive and tasty, especially the chocolate caviar. The service was very fast, some food arrived almost seconds after being ordered. However the places were being cleared very aggressively, before we had finished all our food. On one course my plate was taken away as I was still spooning food in my mouth.

Yelp
The most beautiful new restaurant in NYC! The decor and ambiance are gorgeous. I stopped in after work and was able to snag a seat at the bar, the bar is huge, lots of bartenders. Everyone was very friendly. This restaurant is unique as it has 2 menus- Asian & Italian. I opted to go Asian but you can order from both. Rock shrimp is my go to and Aqua did not disappoint, generous portion with a delicious creamy spicy sauce on the side. I tried 2 rolls, the fish is very fresh. The crystal sushi is their signature roll, it is very unique, a must try. Very tasty and different. Can't wait to return and try the Italian menu.

Yelp
Returned twice since my initial visit - both times sat at the bar and, I have to say, this is the way to do it. The ambiance is great, and our bartender was fabulous. Probably will never stray from the lychee martini because it was so delicious, and all of the food was amazing. Got the rock shrimp tempura, the picante pizzette, and this gorgeous white chocolate coated cheesecake which was a feast for the eyes as much as a delight to eat. One of my favorite bar meals.
google avatar

Cam A.

Yelp
Made a group reservation it was eight of us. The meals are shareable, but the portions are small. They have two different menus, a Japanese menu and an Italian menu, but it is not a fusion style restaurant. The ambience gave upscale the prices gave upscale but the food gave subpar . The sashimi was the best bite for the night. Everything else seem to fall flat lacking flavor. We had an amazing waiter named Chaz. We tried his best to make our night amazing and memorable but overall, I would have to give this place a three, the vibe is a five out of five but the food Definitely needs improvement.

Yelp
We stopped by Aqua for some drinks and small bites before heading to dinner elsewhere. Plenty of comfortable seats at the bar. The service at the bar was attentive, and the entire staff was very friendly. The ambiance was sleek and modern. We tried the rock shrimp, crystal sushi (botan ebi), and flounder sushi. The food was well presented and tasted good overall, but we felt it was overpriced. The rock shrimp consisted of tiny fried pieces that didn't seem to justify the $28 price tag. The crystal sushi was beautifully plated and fun to eat, but again, the ingredients didn't seem to warrant the $20 cost. The flounder sushi stood out as the best value at $11. The restaurant itself is spacious and inviting, with an interesting concept of two separate menus (Italian and Japanese), almost as if it were two restaurants combined into one. We might return for a full dinner experience, but we'd carefully select dishes that offer better value for the price.

Yelp
Beautiful, large space. Interesting concept having 2 different cuisine menus. This is not fusion, there are 2 separate menus - Italian and Japanese. It was really interesting to be order pizza and pasta and also get sashimi. At first I wondered how that would blend, but it does work. We ordered a few items off of both menus. The focaccia was not exactly what we were expecting. Based on the description we thought it come with olive oil, not that it had olive oil on it already. It's also more like flatbread. The lobster pizza could use more lobster. The sushi was fresh and we really enjoyed the burrata. The pumpkin dessert was terrific. They are new, so I think they have a few kinks to work out, but we do plan to come back and try a few more things off the menu. Food tips: Burrata, Sashimi, Pumpkin Sundae Drink tips: Kyoto martini

Yelp
We ordered focaccia, crystal sushi with scallops, prawn maki, clams linguine, lamb chops, negroni bianco cocktail and a raspberry mocktail. Everything was delicious, the service prompt and courteous and it is such a clean chic setting. Ty!
google avatar

Alexandra B.

Yelp
It's all the things mentioned by others--beautiful space, vibes and interesting menu options. Our party of 5 feasted on the burata, tuna and veggie tempura appetizers and dinners including the cod, Malfade, eggplant, octopus and linguini. Everyone enjoyed their meals but I think left wanting more. For dessert, we had the pumpkin and sweet caviar desserts. They were creative but as a chocoholic I didn't care for them. Faith was our wonderful waitress and overall service was good. Like others said, disappointed our main dishes all came out at different times. Some people were eating while others didn't have their meals. I think pricing is on par with other places of this caliber...we ordered two bottles of wine and our final bill came to $140pp. I left wanting a slice of pizza.

Yelp
Restaurant Week Review: beautiful ambience, quick service and tasty food. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. In celebration of Restaurant Week and Veganuary, I had the 3-course lunch meal deal, in which I selected the bruschetta (without the smoked burrata), the tan tan ramen and substituted panna cotta for sorbet ice cream. Again, the food was tasty, the ramen was flavorful and delicious. However, the only drawback that I have for the ramen is that the sauce was a bit salty and thick. I would recommend to add hot water to the ramen, so that the sauce loosens up and the salt blends evenly throughout the soup. Or simply request to not have thick sauce. Whichever floats your boat :)...the sorbet ice cream included 3 flavors: passion fruit, lychee and mango I believe. 3-course lunch meal for $30. Gotta love it! I will surely return back to try their other vegan dishes.

Yelp
Came here on a rainy day and wasn't expecting much since it has 2 completely different menus (Italian and Japanese). My first thought is that most people come where for the vibe versus the food. Somehow they make it work as both cuisines were pretty solid. I don't think any of the dishes were out of the world but each one was a good version of what it was supposed to be.
google avatar

Dom G.

Yelp
Came here during opening week - the restaurant was offering 50% off food. Didn't know what to expect and was really pleasantly surprised. There were 9 of us and I did for a little bit felt a little bit under dressed but I got over that really quickly. The venue is pretty impressive, offering lots of seats (including mezzanine level seating), an extravagant bar and an independent sushi bar. We were told there were two separate kitchens. One serving Italian cuisine - and the other Japanese... so you never know which one was going to come out first and vice versa. The food offers to our palettes - we had 5 kids with us too so they were able to enjoy both Italian and Japanese cuisines. My fave out of all our orders was probably the pasta malfade (ox tail ragu). It was so really tasty. The pumpkin dessert is also worth trying out. I look forward to eating here again soon. Welcome to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch. It was beautiful ambiance and friendly staff. I got the lunch special with the class pasta it was a lunch portion and tasted good. I enjoyed my visit here

Yelp
Came to Aqua NYC on their opening day, and they were offering 50% off. The restaurant is very large and vibey, the music was popping but not too loud that you couldn't have conversations. I can definitely see Aqua NYC joining the echelon of restaurants like Buddha Bar, Tao, Buddakan, Catch, etc. We ordered a variety of dishes, some were hits and some were misses. Mushroom arancini - very good and very truffle-ly, love that there are big chunks of mushroom inside. My only complaint was that it was not as crispy on the outside as I wanted. Almost like it was deep fried and left out for a bit. Veggie tempura - this dish was kind of a flop. Similar to the arancini, it wasn't that crispy and the dish was kind of cold? The dipping sauce was good, but I'd rather get tempura at a more specialized Japanese restaurant Botan ebi crystal sushi - we were so curious about this crystal sushi, and I'm so glad we were able to try it. It exceeded expectations. It comes with a ring of jelly, which ended an interesting texture but a great flavor to the whole piece of sushi. I wasn't sure how I felt about the textures initially, but in retrospect, I really liked it. Also loved how the roe seemed to be flavored with wasabi. Ngl, this is pretty pricey for 2 pieces of maki, but it was fun to try. What a unique culinary! Miso black cod - Soooo delicate, flaky, and buttery with a deliciously caramelized top. Also loved the side of yuzu mayo and the side of pickled burdock. I would've preferred if there was a vegetable or something on the plate, but the fish was very delicious. Zucca pizza - my vegetarian friend ordered this, and it took quite a while to come out, which was annoying. I tried a few bites and it was decent. I liked the nice thin crust, and it really tasted like fall. My friend really liked it. Pumpkin sundae - this dessert was so unique and good! It's a mini roasted pumpkin with ice cream inside. When you scoop it, you can scoop some pumpkin flesh from the sides, which pairs perfectly with the cold ice cream. Sooo yummy. At the end of the night, the whole meal for 3 people was about $200, but only $100 after 50% off, which is such a steal! There are definitely some kinks that need to be worked out, but I'm glad we had this experience at Aqua NYC. Definitely try the crystal sushi!
google avatar

Linda C.

Yelp
Two separate kitchens in one in building, this huge restaurant seats up to 700ppl. I like the option of either Japanese or Italian.
google avatar

Frank A.

Yelp
Great concept, great vibe, good food. They ultimately comped our meal. Why you ask? Aqua is a very large restaurant and will always be a management challenge, but they really need to get the kinks out. They are understaffed with no real system in place. We waited 45 minutes for our cocktails and then received a second set of cocktails five minutes later. They have a lot invested in the space so I'm sure they'll work it out. Hint: double the number of bartenders and have a service bar for the tables.
google avatar

Michelle D.

Yelp
Not sure how I really feel about this place it's the first week so I can understand them being overwhelmed! Food is taking a VErY long time to come out but everything we have had has been amazing !!!

Dorje D.

Yelp
Service was great, ambiance was great, food was subpar. Unfortunately just a bit too plain for my tastes. For the grandeur of the interior, I expected more from the food in terms of taste (not display). We came for restaurant week so we didn't get the entire menu, but also the point of restaurant week is to show off your best dishes so people come back. Cocktails were amazing, will definitely come back for a drink!
google avatar

Paula R.

Yelp
The decor is beautiful. This is a an unusual menu of Japanese and Italian fusion that somehow works. The cocktails have a Japanese spin on them such as the addition of Yuzu in their version of a Tom Collins. The small bar bites on both the Japanese and Italian menus are delicious. Don't miss the arancini. They have a nice happy hour too.
google avatar

Anish B.

Yelp
It's a fun vibe. They have a live DJ on Saturday nights and a huge bar area. If you go to the bar area, ask for Ilia, she's a blast. Food was good. Nothing to write home about. If you like spicy, definitely get the picante pizzetta. That was the best thing we got. That have a daily happy hour from 12-6pm
google avatar

Jody P.

Yelp
The signature drinks are over $30 apiece and they are just ok. The food portions are small. The zucchini friti was so salty that we could not finish it. The USDA Wagu Ribeye was mostly fat and very little meat. We left some pieces on the serving platter for this reason. The food was very disappointing and was not worth the $350 that I paid . I will not be returning. Jody P.
google avatar

Reb K.

Yelp
The decor and food is gorgeous, the ambiance is sleek, the vibe is lively and amped up with a DJ on the weekends. We love that there is a designated kitchen for each cuisine- Japanese (Aqua Kyoto) and also one for Italian (Aqua Roma) and a sushi line where you can sit right in front of the sushi chefs because we can never decide, so here you can order everything. Good for date night or girls night out, even good for families too! The spicy tuna roll and piccante pizza and miso cod were our favorite dishes. Can't wait to go back!!

Yelp
Randomly saw on IG, decided to try for a bday celebration, food, ambiance and vibes were good.

Yelp
Andrew Sicklin is triumphant in his shepherding of David's Yeo's Aqua in NYC. Majestic architecture is balanced by rich tapestry of service and cheerfulness of staff and sublime culinary execution. Destined to be one of the great hotspots and foodie destinations of NYC, especially in the center of the universation, the flatiron district of Manhattan. Bravo, Andrew. Bravo, David. Long live Aqua NY.

Yelp
Very cute and sexy vibe! Luis the bartender is the best, he took amazing care of me! The food and cocktails are amazing. Super fun bar

Yelp
Came to meet up with some friends on a Friday night. Lots of seating at around 9pm. Drinks were super tasty (I loved the lychee martini but there was a melon cocktail that was weird in flavoring). Got an unagi roll which was just ok--the unagi was sadly dry. An ok time and definitely appreciated all the available seating

Yelp
I scanned the QR code to be notified when Aqua opened and was lucky enough to go one of the preview weeks the menu was 50% off so I tried more than I would alternatively. What everyone can agree on is this expansive space is very impressive. I was sat at the bar as a solo diner, which was fine, except for the fact that I kept getting a draft from the outside they kept me pretty cold the course of my dinner. Also I came in with photos that Aqua posted of food in their restaurant and my bartender/server and Manager couldn't answer what it was an said they'd be back with an answer and never did, which was disappointing. Once I finally got my order taken I gave a clear time I had to leave and felt panicked I wouldn't leave on time for the course of my dinner. I tried the sea bass, which I was excited for, but it was super salty and I won't be ordering it again, especially at full price. I would order the pork belly again and the crystal sushi is special with a nice presentation so I would order that again. My time ran out so I had to get my dessert to go, but there was a miscommunication and they brought out my dessert anyway, and then had to wrap it up which took entirely too long and made me late. I'm going to chalk all of this up to it being one of the first couple of weeks but have to be authentic with my review for now.

Rachel F.

Yelp
Such an amazing restaurant. From the moment we walked in the vibes were amazing and the staff was so welcoming. The staff couldn't be nicer or more accommodating! Our waiter, Yamanuel, was so helpful, kind, funny and all around made our dinner that much more enjoyable. HIGHLY recommend

Yelp
This new spot just opened, offering a one-of-a-kind dining experience with two distinct kitchens under one roof. They're the team behind @hutongnyc & they feature both a Japanese and Italian menu. We enjoyed the dishes, sampling the best of both worlds- this spot is on the pricier side. The atmosphere was intimate, and the staff was exceptional. The restaurant itself is spacious + stunning and it got pretty busy throughout the night. Standout dishes for me were the ragu, lamb chops, rock shrimp, and tiramisu!
google avatar

Yelp
Aqua is truly an amazing restaurant! It beautifully blends Japanese and Italian cuisines, offering exceptional dishes from each one of these cuisines in a delightful environment. The service is impeccable, the prices are fantastic, and the drinks are absolutely terrific.

Yelp
For a brand new restaurant, I would have to say that the service was pretty good. But they need to work on the timing of the delivery of food to the table. In our party of four, two of us got plates, while the other two waited for a bit. Then, of the people who already had a plate of sushi, received his second sushi dish while one person still had no food. For some reason, the people bringing the food to the table kept placing everyone's food on the center of the table as it we were all sharing them. These dishes are nowhere near the size of a shareable plate. The atmosphere is great. Impressive high ceilings and sculptural nautical (but not nautical) columns in the large beautiful bar. I love how they used the track lighting as sculptural architectural elements. For the most part, the food is pretty good. I was skeptical of the "two kitchens, two cuisines" format, but the restaurant seems to manage it, there is a disconnect with pricing and portions. The truly odd thing is that normally, Italian food tends to be served generously, while Japanese food tends to be served in small portions. . . Some dishes like the sushi rolls, were a good size. The miso black cod was great and beautifully plated. The pasta Vongole was tiny with only four tiny clams. But even worse, the risotto, which is listed as a main dish was so minuscule, I would bet that it would not be enough to satisfy an infant! When we spoke to one of the black suits patrolling the dining room, they gave us an obviously rehearsed answer, "the chef likes to present the dishes as individual portion sizes". But neglected to mention that the individual portions were for infants. The hiyayakko tofu appetizer was priced higher than the risotto which was a main dish (perhaps it was an oversight and was supposed to be listed as an appetizer as well?). Desserts were delicious and creative, I find that normally, desserts are treated as an afterthought, but these were great Since we were invited to the restaurant during its first week, and we were offered a 50% discount to try it (which made the small portions bearable), I would have assumed that the restaurant would want to know our thoughts and impressions. But sadly no. Instead I sent an email with a link to make another reservation. Pass. We had to stop on the way home to grab more food to eat!

Yelp
Great new big time restaurant just opened in prime flatiron location. Enjoyed the huge high energy bar and delicious Asian fair. It's the first Italian Asian restaurant I've been to, but they keep it as two separate menus - Roma and Aqua. Best vegetarian gyoza I've ever had. Fun vibe, great sushi, high energy. Service was friendly and they really seemed to care about your experience. Other reviews are way too harsh, for this location and type of place it's well priced, fast, and fun.

Yelp
Aqua NYC: Opening week feedback: Ambiance: Gorgeous design Very vibey (dj all night, kind of loud and overwhelming for me) Seats 100s of guest, multiple floors and sections Menu: Good Cocktails Dual menu (Asian & Italian) Asian options were fantastic Italian didn't do much for me I would have like to see some crossover in some dishes Favorites: Prawn tempura Roll Blue fin Sushi Prawn Carpaccio Scallop, Caviar and Kimchi Jelly Roll Least favorite: Wings need to be taken off that menu Lobster bisque pizza Hospitality Notes: As you can imagine a place this size needs a tremendous amount of staff. I feel like the team needs a little work, but it's opening week so I think it's a matter of people getting use to the flow of service. My personal rating 7/10

Yelp
The restaurant is a beautiful space and love the rock shrimp. Enock was a great bartender.

Yelp
Dropped in, got a table, enjoyed a small dinner with just a couple of courses. They are clearly geared towards a fine dining experience but were happy to help us enjoy a lower-key evening.

Yelp
Gorgeous bar and huge restaurant but the menu is confused and so is the music. Fold was mediocre at best and the $28 pasta (that tasted like Trader Joe's boxed pasta) was TINY. Took us close to 40 minutes to pay for our food and drinks sitting at the bar. Bar area has potential to be a cute happy hour spot but I would not recommend eating here.

Yelp
Just checked out @aquanewyork near Flatiron and it's definitely worth a visit! The vibe is super chic, and they've got a cool of Italian and Japanese dishes. I tried the yuzu shiso marinated lamb and it was amazing - so tender! Definitely a great spot for a fun night out with great food and even better vibes. Highly recommend if you're in the area! follow me for more instagram: @connyscarpa_

Yelp
Hello , I went to dinner at Aqua tonight after rating several restaurants in New York. I was surprised by the food, the place is beautiful in the middle of Manhattan but what made the difference was the French service by Nino, warm welcome, wine advice to match the dishes, perfect timing, elegant and very classy. I recommend everyone to come here and ask for Nino as a waiter . Will I be back? With great pleasure and soon .

Yelp
My new favorite spot in the City....Amazing service with even more amazing food...Working in hospitality makes me appreciate great staff training and Aqua has all of that! There is not one negative thing I can say about this wonderful spot but maybe on an off day have a Hospitality incentive to bring staff and crews from other venues to see what service is all about!

Yelp
A one word summary of Aqua is SALT! Every single thing was excessively salty. I say excessively because I have a high tolerance for salt and actually need my food to be properly salted, but this was on a whole different level. The restaurant has two menus: Italian and Japanese. Per my experience, this is often times than not a complete disaster: do one thing and do it right! Here's what we ordered along with my review of the dish: Prawn tempura: looked somewhat anemic and could've used another 3 to 4 minutes in the fryer; the sauce was very salty and almost unpalatable Calamari fritti: the only item we ordered from the Italian menu; it was overcooked ie chewy, not to mention a salt mine; the sauce was equally salty Spicy tuna, avocado, leak, and aonori powder: I hate to repeat myself, but once again, salty. The taste of the aonori powder overpowered the dish and took away from the taste of the tuna. Futomaki, tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, scallion, and tobiko: bland, had no particular taste or flavor. Basically, forgettable. Salmon sushi and Red Sea bream sushi: the only two good things that I ate! Would've been a tragedy to mess these up too! We were brought a "birthday dessert" which was a small scoop of sorbet topped with white chocolate sprinkles, a presentation that was not fitting of the rest of the dishes. Though charged for it at first, they marked it as complimentary after pointing it out to the server. Every single dish was unnecessarily garnished with edible flowers, distracting from what should have been its actual aesthetic and presentation. The ambiance was nice, yet nothing spectacular. The space most certainly did not live up to the grandeur of its online photos. The service was inconsistent. The server came on strong at first, yet his enthusiasm seemed to wane just because we didn't order more food or drinks. Overall, the experience was underwhelming to say the least. I'd be hard pressed to return any time soon.

Yelp
Sixto took care of us. The experience was great and food was top notch. I would highly recommend this place - especially NYC locals who are looking for something new to try! Great vibes.
