13 Hidden Restaurants in Waikiki, Honolulu | Eater

"In the spectrum of Italian-American cuisine, there’s restrained California-Italian, red-sauced New York-Italian, and then there’s Hawai‘i-Italian, which at Arancino means a lot of seafood pastas. The sea urchin spaghetti is a must, but the menu also includes spaghetti with tobiko and calamari, squid ink pasta, and penne with shrimp in a spicy tomato sauce. There are two other Arancino locations — a high-end version at Kahala and a casual cafe-style restaurant on the other side of Waikīkī — but the Beachwalk location falls perfectly in the middle of the two extremes. Google
Amazing!!!! Definitely make a reservation. Great food service and food came fast. One of our favourite dinners while in Hawaii. Our local uber driver recommended it and WOW it did not disappoint.

Bruce Serrano

Google
Authentic Italian restaurant with very delicious dishes. Their service was personal and our server was attentive. Highly recommend!

Google
I visited during lunchtime and ordered the lunch set. The regular price is $28, but with the Kama'aina discount, it's a great deal at $21. You get to choose between a salad or soup, and then your favorite pizza or pasta for the main course. It's a very satisfying meal, and getting this kind of quality for that price is an absolute steal. There were a lot of tourists, but it also seemed popular with people who work in Waikiki. Unlike the Marriott location, this spot has a hidden-gem feel, which I found really charming.

Google
Friendliest staff, yummy pasta and pizza, and cozy environment. This location feels more like a mom-and-pop compared to the Kahala one, but that’s what makes it so lovable!

Google
Amazing food, service and the vibe of this cute little Italian restaurant. Lots of Vegetarian options. Cheers to Stacy, Justin, Jamie, Isabelle and all the staff.

Google
Very similar situation to another Italian restaurant we tried out in Honolulu—tried to catch a vibe here, wanted to check out some different (e.g., squid ink) menu options here as they were unique and overall. Overall, was a good meal just couldn’t find that ‘oomph’ to put it over the top. Fresh pasta/homemade should.

Google
The waitress Desi was professional, attentive, and engaging. We enjoyed our experience, the atmosphere and most importantly, the food! We ordered Spaghetti alla Pescatora, Spaghetti Alla Carbonara, Calamari Fritti, and some drinks that my husband enjoyed thoroughly. The food came out quickly, it was fresh, hot and flavorful. We will definitely be coming back and bringing our friends/family. 10/10!

Google
This experience was interesting. the food was bad and good. service was outstanding and poor at the same time. the caesar salad had old greens, but the cheese on top was delicious. the margerita pizza was delicious, no complains. the two servers out front were very welcoming and friendly, but the server who i asked for water gave us all varying amounts of water, with some cups being only disappointly half full. Overall, would recommend. the pizza was good with minimal wait.

Yelp
We talked to Rocket... asking about the restaurant. He steered us to eat here. Best food we've had in Waikiki! Ceasar salad, A Calamari (fresh & tender), A- Carbonaro pasta,A Risotto mushroom......A-... cooked at the table with huge aged cheese, what a treat. Each dish was excellence on display. Service was spot on polished, great team work, regular check ins.... just a great experience and delicious food. Waitress was Minami.... also was great. Thank you everybody for a great dinner. Ambiance is like going to Italy (close space, happy ppl and great food.

Yelp
Dropped by for lunch and really enjoyed it! They offer a $28 lunch set with a choice of pasta or pizza. I went with the pasta with a Caesar salad. The salad was fresh and tasty, and the bolognese was served hot and flavorful. It was a touch on the salty side, so I felt a little thirsty afterward, but still very satisfying overall. They also make this lunch set as a Kamaaina special for $21, which is a great deal for lunch in Waikiki. Thank you for the wonderful meal and friendly service!

Yelp
The food was good, 4 stars. The ambiance was ok, the music a bit too loud, 3 stars. Service was ok, we felt rushed, during the dinner we were asked multiple times to pick the dessert while we were still eating. When we asked for more bread they brought us only 2 more pieces. We left with bitter on our mouth, not because of the food but for the overall rushed experience. 3 stars.

Yelp
Came here for dinner tonight and it was delicious! We ordered the Caesar salad, carbonara, and spaghetti alle vongole. Our waitress Jaime was wonderful and super quick to serve! The Caesar salad was delicious with real anchovies and the clams in my spaghetti were cooked perfectly. Inside was semi-crowded as it seemed pretty popular at dinner time but overall a great vibe! Highly recommend.

Yelp
One of the best Italian restaurant I've have been to. Food was great, uni pasty have this amazing tasty to it. I know it's not for everyone, but this pasta is very different I've tried. Staff , everyone was very friendly and pay very attentive to everyone in the restaurant. Very clean restaurant inside too. Parking is one of the hardest thing here , some street parking but hard to find. Or valet parking next door hotel , but it's very expensive.

Yelp
I've walked past this place for years and always assumed it had to be a tourist trap. However, I recently went and am so glad, what a hidden, in obvious site, gem! Trattoria aesthetic and vibes. Busy, but also not so much that can't score a last minute reservation, which is sometimes difficult for a sit down in Waikiki. The service was friendly; server was courteous and our table side pasta preparer had personality which is always fun for a presentation. Ambiance is elevated casual and can be a bit loud as the tables are close together and it gets packed. The menu has a nice mix of Italian favorites. The arancini were delicious. We shared 2 pastas. The table side prepared Cacio e Pepe, loved the presentation. We also ordered the Carbonara, a bit overly salty but expected and delicious nonetheless. The pastas were both cooked perfectly. We also ordered 3 glasses of wine. All nice, I loved they had Barolo by the glass! While this is common in Oahu (and most tropical locals to be honest) I was a little shocked an Italian place would serve overly chilled (think glass sweating level as if you had a glass of ice water) red wine. Luckily it was only 1 of the 3 (and not mine, lol. My companion did not mind it so was a win). To stay true to my initial impression of tourist trap, they do have a photographer come around and take your photos. A nice souvenir to take home! Though cheesy I actually liked this and think it's wonderful for tourists to have a little vacation memory. I will 100% be back and this is now added to my rotation when craving a delicious Italian pasta.

Yelp
The food was authentic Italian. Miki our server was outstanding, professional and fun! The ambiance reminds me of trattorias in Italy. Buono.

Yelp
Great experience! Service was exceptional. Food prepared quickly. Everything was divine!

Yelp
Hands down, one of the best Italian meals I've ever had! The Spaghetti alla Carbonara was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced -- the sauce had that authentic, velvety texture with just the right amount of pancetta and pecorino. Every bite was pure comfort. I also tried the Rigatoni alla Bolognese, and it was absolutely incredible! Hearty, flavorful, and slow-cooked to perfection. The meat sauce clung beautifully to the rigatoni, and you could really taste the depth in every mouthful. Honestly, it was some of the best pasta I've ever had- both dishes were flawless. To top it off, the Aperol Spritz was refreshing and perfectly mixed, the ideal complement to the meal. The customer service was outstanding warm, attentive, and made the whole experience feel special. If you're a pasta lover, this place is a must-visit. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Very important dinner date for a well-deserved couple who persevered so much for so long for so many that a dinner like one received tonight is so well deserved! The pasta with Manila clams was perfect and the risotto the fungi made in a Parmesan wheel from Italy were transcendent Along with a dessert of Panna cotta with blueberry compote just put a perfect dessert to end our wonderful meal! The staff were falling over each other to give us service as they did for the restaurant and even getting pieces of bread to dip in the sauces was easy and quick! Can't wait to come back again, and again, and again, and again.

Yelp
Arancino is a pleasant spot that's been around for a very long time, with very good food. It was my first time there but my husband's been here multiple times over almost two decades. He says the taste has been consistently good over all that time. We shared the Insalata mista, and I got the Spaghetti alle Vongole. Husband got the Rigatoni alla Bolognese. Vongole was the best I've had, period. Clams were fresh and juicy. Bolognese was flavorful. Pastas were al dente. Also, their draft beer is Suntory. I've never had draft Suntory before, so this was fun! I'm not a beer conoisseur, but it was good. Service is friendly, helpful and not overbearing. Thank you Miki for an exceptional experience!! The interior seemed a bit cheesy at first, but in the end it did feel like it transported me to a little spot in Italy. I've been to the Italian restaurant at the Ritz on Kalakaua, and Arancino is way better in every way except views. Without a doubt, I'm going back next time we're in Honolulu again. Until next time, Arancino!

Yelp
Delicious! My husband and I decided to come here after seeing a line outside a few days prior. Usually, there's a reason there's a wait so we wanted to try it out. It's a small place, but they got us in fairly quickly. Cute place inside, and they do a good job of making the most of the space they have. Our server was very nice, super knowledgeable of the menu, and great with suggestions. I ordered the carbonara and my husband ordered the tagliatelle w/ prosciutto & funghi. Both were extremely good, particularly the tagliatelle. It had so much depth of flavor and my husband said it was easily top 3 pasta dishes he has ever had. I tried it as well, and it was absolutely delectable. We also ordered the affogato for dessert which was very good as well. Prices were reasonable, and the overall experience was great. Would definitely recommend and we will definitely make a trip back here next time we're in Oahu!

Yelp
I visited Arancino Beach Walk a couple of days ago and had such a great experience! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome from the host, which set a really nice tone for the evening. My server, Merry, was absolutely wonderful -- she had a bright smile the whole time, was super attentive, and clearly knew what she was doing. Everything came out perfectly, and she made sure I had everything I needed without even having to ask. I ordered the uni pasta, and it was incredible -- rich, creamy, and full of flavor. To go with it, I had a Basilrita, which was honestly the best I've ever had! It was so good I ended up ordering a second one. Big shoutout as well to Bee (the bartender) -- super polite, funny, and full of good energy. Not only was he making amazing drinks, but when he had a free moment he was welcoming everyone with a sweet smile on his face loved that guy. You can tell the whole team really cares about what they do. Delicious food, top-notch service, and a welcoming atmosphere -- I'll definitely be coming back soon!

Yelp
We had a 6pm reservation. We arrived at 5:50 pm. There seemed to be just a little bit of confusion. The host asked us if we could be done by 7pm. We said sure. Then he sat elsewhere and said we don't need to hurry. I think he realized he shouldn't have asked us that. It still left a bad first impression. We were sat and our server, Jaime greeted us. Honestly, she was a great server! My wife's lemon drop was great! My wife ordered the mushroom risotto and I order the spaghetti carbonara. My wife said the risotto had some uncooked parts to it and wasn't very good. However the table side presentation was neat. My spaghetti carbonara was hard to eat. The pasta wasn't done all the way.Neither of us ate more than half the food. Also, want to add we were kinda shy and didn't speak up about our meal. Secretly I was hoping they'd ask if we liked it when our plates weren't even half way finished. Who knows we could have still said it was fine. For the price point and taste I wouldn't recommend them. But if you go an get Jaime, you'll at least have good service.
google avatar

Linda Y.

Yelp
Everything went well! Loved Jaime! We ordered Caesar salad, caprese salad, clams and shared the uni pasta. Jaime was the best server and so attentive. We love this location more so than arancini di mare. Beachwalk just has the best vibes! We always come back when visiting Hawaii!

Yelp
So of course I made a reservation for the wrong one but it ended up being a blessing. The staff was super friendly, kind and had a table for us! It was incredible. Food was really good and the overall restaurant was a pleasure. I love Hawaii.

Mike M.

Yelp
I tried the lunch special, lobster bisque soup and the Bolognese. Overall good food and good service.

Yelp
Excellent little Italian spot, that really took me make to Italy! The ambiance and service is great. Food is a bit pricey, but pretty typical prices for nicer Italian food (approximately $30 an entree). The prosciutto arugula salad was very simple yet tasty, albeit quite pricey in my opinion for how little salad we got. The bolognese pasta was my favorite. Noddles were cooked perfectly al dente. The mushroom risotto was cool because they heat it up in a cheese wheel table side, but it was very rich. We really enjoyed the kids cheese pizza (still $20). I thought it was cute how they make the ears with Nutella in them.

Rob B.

Yelp
New to lunch, they offer a nice 'Set' to include salad or soup with a main. Pasta was artfully served though our two pastas came out of the kitchen 10 minutes apart. Service was great, it's the kitchen that probably needs help. Free validated parking at Bank of Hawaii. Ice teas were free refills but also $7!

Judith L.

Yelp
We had an excellent dinner here at the charming and quaint Arancino Beachwalk. Our server was fantastic and did a outstanding risotto in a flaming parmesan wheel! Boy the presentation was so fabulous about 3 more tables ordered it AFTER us. Anyway we had just arrived from the mainland so we were starving, our favorites, the scallop appetizer, (super fresh) The mushroom risotto (of course) the pasta bolognese, (very meaty and delicious) and EVERYTHING on the dessert menu. The manager stopped by our table to see how things were, Stacy, and we couldn't stop talking about the risotto! Outstanding food and service! Cheers to Arancino! Sorry no photos at the moment - will update soon!

Yelp
I just wanted to say that the food was absolutely delicious, and our server was fantastic and really made us feel welcome. This was my first time dining here. However, the experience started off on a bad note due to the attitude of the host. As the first point of contact, the host sets the tone for the entire visit, and unfortunately, it left me with a poor first impression. I had parked at the Bank of Hawaii structure nearby and noticed another lot behind the restaurant. Since the sign said parking was for the for the Outrigger, I asked the host if it was also available for Arancino guests. Her response was rude "Well, there's more than one Outrigger, I don't which one your staying at" It felt unnecessary, I was just curious about the parking situation. When I tried to provide my name and reservation time, she cut me off mid-sentence and asked, "What's your last name?" After I told her, she replied, "Oh okay, yeah I don't know how to say that," with a scoff. That kind of remark felt unprofessional. To top it off, right before we were seated, she pulled a vape from her waistband and took a drag. As we walked toward the entrance, we passed by her while she was waving away her clouds. That set the tone of the interaction before we even sat down. Other than that, our server helped turn things around, and the meal itself was excellent. First impressions matter.

Yelp
I have now been to Arancino on Beachwalk twice and I cannot wait to go back again. My fiancé and I went to have a cozy dinner the day after Valentine's. Desi was our server and she is great! It's hard to find good service these days, so it's refreshing when you do. The servers work as a team and they work very cohesively. For appetizers, we ordered calamari and the caprese salad. The calamari was good, but we really enjoyed the salad. It was very light and bright. A very refreshing and flavorful start to our meal. For dinner, my fiancé got the carbonara pasta and I ordered the bolognese. I was going to try the ribeye at first, but decided to stick with pasta and aim glad I did. Both the carbonara and the bolognese were delicious! We ended dinner with the tiramisu. The chocolate strip that said Arancino was not just for looks. It tasted really good too! We will be back again soon. That's for sure!

NewToReno B.

Yelp
The Margherita pizza was so fresh, flavorful and delicious! It has a thin crust all the way through, which I love. Thick crust tends to get doughy. My fiancé and I ate this in like 2 minutes and commented on how fresh and flavorful the tomato sauce and basil tasted. Highly recommend if you want that Neapolitan style pizza while on Waikīkī.
google avatar

Sandy L.

Yelp
Arancino at Beachwalk in Waikiki is a quaint Italian bistro with a creative Japanese touch. My husband treated me to a great lunch in a warm, intimate setting. After being greeted by their friendly staff, we were quickly seated near the entrance. My husband selected the creamy lobster bisque with the tasty Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese. I enjoyed the crispy, fresh cesare salad with a delicious homemade Tagliatelle Pomodoro e cream con Gamberetti featuring fresh tagliatelle, shrimp, house made tomato cream sauce and parmigiana reggiano. So onolicious! With its friendly service, convenient location, and delicious dishes, Arancino offers a leisurely dining experience in a comfortable, cozy setting...perfect for fun gatherings with friends and family! Best of all...we were eligible for a wonderful kamaaina special price (with our state id or drivers license as proof)....$21 for soup or salad and a pasta/ or pizza entree! What a great deal!
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
Over priced- darn! The quaint restaurant is Overcrowded and unpleasant to eat in. Will not return.
google avatar

Kirsten C.

Yelp
Holy cow, this place was unreal. First of all, the location and ambience is delightful. Reminds me of Europe the way it's tucked into a little unassuming location. The classic checked tablecloths and sunny colors set the vibe. THE FRESH PAPAYA WITH PROSCIUTTO, I am going to be dreaming about. I mean, that good. The sweetness, the salty prosciutto, melt in your mouth. A perfect dish. My husband had the carbonara. Out of this world, perfectly creamy, but not too heavy, a very balanced dish with perfectly cooked pasta. He loved it! The uni pasta is one of the best in pastas I've had in my life, and I've been all over Italy. This is the best of Japanese, Italian, and Hawaiian influence coming together. You can taste the natural sweetness of the uni, but it's perfectly complimented by the acidity of roasted tomatoes. I will be dreaming about this dish. I literally googled if this place is open tonight because I wanted to come back, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Just a perfect meal that I will always remember in Waikiki. Absolutely will return next yearly trip. We also had a lovely Chianti with our meal and our server was fabulous.
google avatar

Dub C.

Yelp
Parking sucks ! Need to park at hotel or under bank of Hawaii. But you are coming here for their pastas !!!!! Straight up! And all you need to know is their UNI pasta !!! Glass of white wine ... Waiters don't make the price but bruh $7 Diet Pepsi?
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
Very intimate atmosphere. That is perfect for a date. The food is delicious and terrific and the price is decent for what you would expect to pay for good Italian cuisine. Will try the location at the Kahala !
google avatar

Alvin K.

Yelp
Came here for dinner and luckily I had reservations because there was a small line. Food did not disappoint. Friendly staff. Will be back. Check em out on Beachwalk!

Yelp
Came here last week to celebrate 2 family birthdays. We initially thought this was the restaurant on Kalakaua, but it apparently this was the original location and had just reopened after a remodel. It is super cute with Italian decor, and also pretty intimate a size for a restaurant which is why I'm glad we had reservations. Because we were celebrating two birthdays in our group, my sister found this place off of Yelp and I'm so glad she did! Their pasta is so delicious. I mean the next I come back to Honolulu, I am eating here again. I had the uni pasta, and it was super creamy with just the right touch of uni that every bite was flavorful. My cousin thought her carbonara was the best she ever had. I pretty much had a bite of everyone's meal and it was so good. The service was nice and helpful, and they even gave us two slices of cake to celebrate for the birthday queens. It was the perfect meal for the first night of our trip. Thank you, Arancino! We'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Goldwyn S.

Yelp
Food was great, especially the uni spaghetti. Tasted so fresh and the noodles were cooked to a perfect al dente. Are going to go back just for that dish alone. Inside of the restaurant was on the smaller side but we didn't mind. Kind of added to the Italian restaurant feel. Service was good as well. Had some moments where we had to wait for a while for the waiter. Longer than we would've liked, but it was a very busy night and every table was full so we understood and were patient.

Terence B.

Yelp
Poor service, packed like sardines, mediocre food. You sit fix inches from nearby table, service slow and nothing special about the food.
google avatar

Ty W.

Yelp
This was one of our best dining experiences in Hawaii. The portion sizes were perfect. Our server was fantastic, her recommendations were great and she was attentive without being pushy. The food was delicious and the price was reasonable.
google avatar

Lee J.

Yelp
Unfortunately, service was very transactional. It didn't seem like the waiter had an interest in making the meal an experience. We were asked so many times if we were ready to order that we lost track. Still looking at our menus might have been a clue, and we already got his input on favorites. We had desert, soup, and entree within 15 mins of arriving. We were even early for our reservation and it wasn't overly busy. If we wanted fast food, we would've gone to McDonalds. With that said, the food was excellent. Delicious tiramisu, lobster bisque, bolognese (the pasta tasted like it was made in house) and starter bread. We liked the Italian music being played, although it was more current and pop, rather than traditional.

Sandra L.

Yelp
We recently visited Arancino while on vacation in Hawaii. The ambience was wonderful ... very intimate and cozy (50 seat capacity). Harkened to many restaurants in Italy. The staff were wonderful - attentive but not overwhelming. AND the food. OMG!! Their focaccia was warm, freshly baked and delicious. The salad was full of fresh greens dressed perfectly. The entrees were all exceptional- so good we returned for a second go around. We didn't have the pizza, but are already planning on doing so when we next visit. Suggest getting reservations as it was really busy whenever we dined there or passed by.
google avatar

Paul G.

Yelp
We come here at least once on every trip to Waikiki. Eclectic menu; we stick to Italian dishes. Highly recommend lobster bisque, pasta bolognese, mushroom risotto (prepared table side) and lasagna.
google avatar

A M.

Yelp
Love, love, love. I am an Italian food freak, very picky, and I LOVED this place. I had the lobster bisque (sherry base) and linguine Vongole. Pasta cooked to perfection. Lobster bisque was so good that the woman a table over had to order it after seeing me eat it. Servers extremely friendly and attentive. All ingredients they use are shipping in from Italy. In my opinion, this restaurant is way under rated on yelp. It's a little hot in the restaurant so dress cool. FYI - they have 2 other restaurants on the island! YUM.
google avatar

Ty S.

Yelp
Reopened after 4 years. Pandemic hit them hard. Glad the did open. Place is small but the foid is second to none. Their aperitif is top notch. People are friendly. All in all a great pkace
google avatar

Bryan N.

Yelp
A very small restaurant, felt family owned/operated but I'm not sure if that. We had 2 pizzas and 2 pasta dishes. Pastas were the Cabanaro & Pomoadora. Everything was excellent. My daughter got a kids pizza which was cute and had Nutella-filled ears on it.
google avatar

Lanny T.

Yelp
The three items needed for a great restaurant: food, service, AND ambiance were 5 star.
google avatar

Daniela K.

Yelp
A must try when in Waikiki.... a lovely place with wonderful food and service!!! Our family enjoyed every aspect of sinning at Arancino on Beachwalk. While Jess was our server I felt that the whole staff was willing to jump in and tend to our needs. Thank you! The food was spectacular, from the crispy calamari to the splendid pizza but the most memorable item was the house made focaccia sooooo good! we will be sure to find time to go back.
google avatar

Toma C.

Yelp
I love this place at the Marriott but they don't have the same Menu options. I had to go to the other one. The food I am sure is amazing but really it was closer to me and I had to go further to get my cacia de Pepe. I just gave it three stars for the I convenience of the menu options the food is 5 stars.
google avatar

Saya H.

Yelp
This location is a great place to eat when in Waikiki. The beach is right there especially when you choose outdoor seating. They also give free foccacia bread that is delicious. Both pastas and the chefs pizza was decadent and would recommend.
google avatar

Suren B.

Yelp
Great service. Tomahawk steak was great, nice selection of pizzas. Wines to pair - big choice.

Yelp
Newly renovated. Just reopened. And.... First, aside from Bocconcino and Noe, Oahu does not have any proper authentic Italian eateries rather we have fusion Japanese Italian and Vietnamese Italian. Arancino on Beachwalk is Japanese Italian fusion. Embrace it for what it is. To start, the prosciutto wrapped papaya. It sounds bizarre but with a hit of some EVOO, the tropical fruitiness of the ripe papaya goes so well with the salty prosciutto. Stand out pastas include the spaghetti w/ uni in a tomato garlic cream sauce, rich with umami goodness and the spaghetti carbonara that replaces the traditional raw egg with a soft poached egg and a good amount of grated parm for incredible richness. Of course, the truffle oil should be omitted and replaced with fresh shaved truffle for an upcharge. Pizzas sadly don't impress. The crust is not blistered and the flavor of the basic margheritta doesn't impress. Very well chosen wine list with heavy emphasis on Italian producers. Lots of wines by the glass. Outstanding pricing. Tignanello for only $250/btl??? Mostly agreeable food and a fairly priced wine list make this a great spot to relax if you find yourself in Waikiki. Destination worthy, it is not.

Kurtis J.

Yelp
Very similar situation to another Italian restaurant we tried out in Honolulu--tried to catch a vibe here, wanted to check out some different (e.g., squid ink) menu options here as they were unique and overall. Overall, was a good meal just couldn't find that 'oomph' to put it over the top. Fresh pasta/homemade should.

Yelp
Our food was delicious our server Jamie was awesome and inside the restaurant just like a little Italian bistro. Best fresh Italian food on the island.

Yelp
Excellent food, fantastic service and nice environment. Pastas, pizza and salad all recommended!

Yelp
Thanks to Jaime for the exceptional customer service, I enjoyed the food and overall experience.
