Yelp
I had high hopes for this place after seeing that it had just opened a location in Capitol Hill, and was already established in another spot. The location itself is quite cute and cozy, and we came by on a Sunday night for dinner. There were only a couple of other tables inside, and we sat down in the back area with one other couple. Inside the restaurant almost feels like a museum or home, with the low ceilings, close by tables, and really quite ambiance - it almost felt weird to talk too loudly.
While I would give the food itself probably 3.5 stars, there were a few things that made me dock off more. The waitress and one of the chef(s)? seemed to be frantically running around and messing up things a lot, which didn't instill a lot of confidence in us from the start. We ordered the fish in panang curry sauce and bbq beef to start off, and specified no nuts since I'm allergic to them. While they did keep the peanuts off the fish dish, they forgot to take them out of the papaya salad that came with the beef. As soon as I took a bite I could tell there were peanuts and thankfully immediately spit it out - if I had more severe allergies, that could have ended up extremely poorly. From then on I didn't have much more trust in the food, and even overheard another customer asking the chef/waitress what they were served was to which she responded with "I don't know." They did make me a new papaya salad, but I was still overly cautious after that moment. We also ordered a pad kee mao at the end which was fine, but they forgot to add it to the bill and then came back asking us to pay again which was another oversight.
I think there's quite a bit of work that can be done to improve this place, but not all hope is lost. Objectively the food wasn't bad, but I think there needs to be some enhancements in service, ambiance, and presentation.
