I, together with several members of my units, have stayed at Domaine de Murtoli on several occasions over the course of two decades. Although it never was our call, being on official business. It was also at the expense of taxpayers, so, not using our own money. This is also my first review ever. Important details in context.||||The domain itself is pretty amazing, and we did love it. Contrary to what is advertised, however, it is not unique, with many similar properties being offered around the world with much higher standards of service and at a much lower price: Bali, South Pacific, Indian Ocean, Montana, Alaska, Africa...||||The human element, however, is a major issue. Enough to ruin your stay and make the cost of the domain, however nice it may be, not worth it. They have no concept of service or what the standards of a 5-star are supposed to be. They are exceptionally arrogant, in the position that it is a privilege for guests to hand over their money, expecting the guests to be grateful for merely being allowed on the property (assuming the gate is not closed, that is) or even in Corsica for that matter. Guests are expected to adapt to their host and his staff (immediate family) rather than the other way around. Any comment that could be remotely construed as a complaint is met with contempt, insults and even threats. The owner also assumes that anything a guest points out is in bad faith and for the purpose of getting something for free... Unable to realize that the type of clients who can afford the domain tend to not really care about the money (including in our case as it is government expenses). One needs only to read the astonishingly unprofessional responses to negative reviews from the owner to get a better understanding of this review. Unfathomable indeed in any actual 5-star property. ||||To be fair, guests can get a pretty clear picture of what is to come when it comes to guest services, or lack thereof, during the booking process. It is archaic, inflexible, and in violation of French and EU regulations: Endless forms, unsecured methods of payment phased out and outlawed in the rest of the country and the EU, improper processing and storage of personal data. Absolute disregard for a guest personal circumstances: You're a Raider under fire in some war zone without access to a printer? Not their problem! Even if you are a repeat guest! Print the illegal and unsecured form, write your government credit card number with no credit limit as a blank check on it, scan it and send it back unsecurely via email, or else! ||||Then, once you are there, do not expect staff to accommodate any request, however reasonable, including a request for privacy. Every single stay, despite saying we wanted to be left alone, we had someone at the door every day, often several times a day: Housekeeping, maintenance, always someone. Pretty early in the morning as well. Access to food is unreliable too. They don't allow you to hunt on domain (understandable) but close restaurant without warning and when they feel like it. They also tend to lock guests in and out after hours. They also really dislike children. We never brought our own but were often appalled at the way they treated the kids of other guests. However behaved they may have been.||||Ultimately, the prospect of any stay at Domaine de Murtoli became a source of stress for me (and many of my guys). There is something fundamentally wrong with spending that amount of money, even if not ours, and be treated with such contempt. Dreading the booking and check in process, or any interaction with the staff, let alone the owner. The anticipation and excitement felt prior to the first stay became dread over the years.||||At this point, we will not stay at Domaine de Murtoli again. Even if we get paid for it. I'd rather set up a tent somewhere and be left alone.
