I was really excited to try this spot as arepas are easily one of my favorite foods of all time, and they aren’t as common in Philly as I’d hope. Unfortunately, I wasn’t as thrilled as I hoped and I don’t expect this to be a go-to for me in the future.
The “Curvy Queen Arepa” is their Reina Pepiada (literally Curvy Queen in Spanish), a chicken and avocado salad arepa. The chicken salad was very flavorful and I could immediately taste the lime juice and cilantro mixed in. Unfortunately, the avocado took the backseat and the mayonnaise ultimately dominated the flavor of the salad. Halfway through I wasn’t sure if they remembered the avocado. Aside from that, I was mostly disappointed in the arepa itself, which was fairly stale and cold. If the arepa was fresher it would have complemented the salad well, but it didn’t rise to expectations.
