Here are the best places to find soup in Ann Arbor | Eater Detroit

"Budae Jjigae, or “army base soup” started as a necessity due to food scarcity in post-war Korea as locals used surplus food from American military bases. Locals took whatever they could find — often canned meats and hot dogs — to create this spicy soup that eventually became part of the national lexicon. Arirang’s version uses pork belly, ham, and sausage and is a highlight on a menu that already features more than a dozen other soups." - John Reyes

I’ve been here multiple times because it’s that good. It’s run by a family from South Korea and the owner is very friendly. The price is very affordable and the food is incredible. I’ve attached pictures of some of the dishes I’ve gotten and the great 반찬! 김치 찌개, 까드기,김치벆음밥, 오이무침 etc

It’s hard to find a good place with nice and authentic Korean food in Buffalo. Unless you cook for yourself. Amazing food and amazing people. I loved the warm and friendly hospitality and authentic taste. The food was amazing, do check out.

Google
This was very authentic and so cute. The woman serving us was very sweet and kind. We got the Kimchi Stew and the Bulgogi which were both amazing! I definitely recommend!!

Google
The 아줌마 there was very sweet and funny! Compared to the other Korean restaurants in the Buffalo area, I’d say 아리랑 is definitely one of my favorites! I went here with my boyfriend around 7 and there was only one other table being occupied. The servings were very generous! The 아줌마 gave us sour patch kids after taking our order! As we left after paying, she even went outside to catch us before leaving to five us a yakult for each of us! I will definitely be visiting again :)

Google
The food was fantastic. My grandson got the tofu stew and said it was amazing. The lady working there gave us a free pear drink and rice and she was so sweet. Highly recommend!

Google
I’m visiting from Singapore and was really craving korean food here. This place did not disappoint! We ordered the kimchi jiggae, soondubu jiggae and spicy beef stew. All so authentic and hearty with loads of meat, amazing variety of banchans as well. The ajumma was extremely sweet, refilling our banchan multiple times and even bringing out jeon which we didn’t order for us to try! She even gave us candy and choco pie at the end of the meal!

People are so nice. Food is good 🤗

Google
Kalbi tang is good here. Owner was nice and gave us extras for Christmas. Restaurant needs a little bit of renovation (both inside and outside) but don't let that discourage you from coming here. The food is good. Definitely authentic Korean food, older korean lady makes the food here.

Yelp
Service was great, food was incredible! We all loved everything we got- seafood pancake, hot stone bibambop with beef/tofu, noodles with brown sauce. And the side dishes- pictured- were great! She brought out more side dishes when we finished them and then brought us dessert. We also had pear drinks. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
I'm not an expert on Korean food, but I enjoyed everything I had here. Service was great and there was plenty of table seating, a mix of 4-6 person tables. Their scallion pancake is a little thicker and crispier than others I've had, and I really enjoyed that. The Stir fried rice cakes (which also came with fish cakes) came in a flavorful sauce that had a kick, and were really enjoyable. The Sizzling Stone Pot Bibimbap was good but I will say that it didn't come with much ground beef. I split all three dishes with a friend and we left full and with a little bit of leftovers.

Yelp
Some of the best mf fried chicken I've ever had, good price, came in at Saturday at 3:30pm and just one lady working and was super sweet, offered us kimchi and some Korean hot sauce. Really surprised it wasn't more busy. If you're just in the area like I was, you gotta come here.

Yelp
An awesome hole in the wall mom and pop authentic Korean restaurant! You have to check times to make sure they're open (ex: they're only open Sundays 3-6 pm). Such authentic Korean food! Our picky friends who have dietary restrictions even found great things to eat here!! Btw we loved their homemade kimchi so much we have even ordered several large orders of kimchi to keep on our fridge! Great Korean fried chicken dish, arirang bulgogi, beef short rib stew, beef mandu!

Yelp
Saw this little Korean restaurant when I was at Wingnutz. They are in the same plaza. I placed my order online, when I got there no one was at the restaurant at all. My food was already on the front desk and someone from the back waved at me, signaling to pick up the bag there. I ordered the combo special . It came with bulgogi beef, 2 pieces of fish cake, a small piece of egg, a little bit of kimchi, 3 fried dumplings, rice and a can of soda. It was supposed to also included a toy, but I got 2 small bags of sour patch kids. They must have ran out. I also ordered the rice cake soup. The beef was a little tough, fish cakes and dumplings tasted ok. I wished they gave a little more kimchi. Rice was a little dry. For $13.95, it is not expensive but not too tasty. The rice cake soup was delicious. I was planning eating that tomorrow but decided to have a taste. I could not stop after the first bite, then continue to eat more than half of the soup. So next time, maybe I will try other soups.

Yelp
Lived in South Korea for three years and this is the BEST Korean spot in Buffalo. Other places we've been so with bbq and mixed fare in Buffalo always missed that nostalgic note for us but Arirang nailed it. Kimbap and kimchi jeon was straight out of Korea days! We had to eat in our full winter gear - not sure if there was something wrong with the building or they just don't have great heat but it didn't take anything away from the food. Will be back for sure!

Yelp
I had a hankering for fried rice, and the hubbs was willing to fund my hankering, so I hit up the DoorDash app to see who with fried rice was offering free delivery tonight. Arirang had a free delivery offer, and was only a little over a half-hour wait, so we pulled the trigger. DoorDash ordering was easy, and drop-off was on time, contact-free, and well-packaged. I went with chicken fried rice, and upgraded to add kimchi too. (As I said, the hub'ster was paying, hehehe.) My husband picked Korean BBQ fried chicken wings. Our son is a ramen-head, and went with egg and cheese ramen, with added chicken. And our vegan daughter selected the homemade kimchi dumplings and a side of white rice. Our son enjoyed his ramen: a good portion that was a bit spicy, but he still splendidly slurped his noodles. Our daughter's kimchi dumplings were stuffed BIG! With five in the order, two were plenty for her, she shared one with her dad, and was happy to have two for lunch tomorrow. She said they had a nice fermented tang to them, and a good doughy chewiness. My husband's chicken wings were piping-lava hot and very flavorful, but a bit too soggy for his liking. He ate a few, and put the rest into our oven under the broiler to crisp them up. The sweet, sticky sauce seared up nicely in the oven to a blackened glaze. If he orders these wings again, we'll ask for crispier next time. Still very tasty as they were, and easy enough to well-done them at home. As for my fried rice, YUM! A generous portion of rice with veggies and eggs mixed in, plus the sides of chicken and kimchi. I did think the kimchi portion was a bit skimpy, but what I did get was very vinegary and delicious. The chicken was a nice savory taste, when mixed in with the hot and salty rice. Overall, this fried rice hit the spot for me! Delicious delivery from Arirang tonight! Mostly hits, with a couple minor misses, but overall we were pleased with the experience. Our whole family enjoyed trying Korean dishes, and we'd gladly order again to keep eating our way through the Arirang menu. :-)

Yelp
the jigae was amazing. not to mention, the service was like getting served by your very own grandma. at the end of a birthday party i went to there, she walked around and gave us fruit snacks and popsicles. it was such a sweet gesture!
google avatar

Laurie G.

Yelp
Came here for a birthday dinner! I am always on the look out for Korean restaurants since they are hard to find in the area. I came across this place through a Google search . When we arrived there was no one at the counter the greet us. I'm assuming they are short staffed since the person who eventually greeted us also took our order and cooked our food. Despite the wait to get seated the food was delicious and the person taking care of of us, even though he looked a bit overwhelmed was very friendly. The menu is a bit limited and you really won't find a large selection of authentic Korean dishes, the menu items you will find will be tasty tho! Highly recommend the pork katsu. The pork was extremely tender on the inside and the breaded crust had the perfect crunch. I had at least three helpings of their kimchi, had to be the best I've had at a restaurant! Definitely make sure you snag some when you get your meal!

Yelp
My daughter wants to do 'rd trip' and get a take out somewhere we never been. So I randomly searched and this happened to come out on my Facebook ads. Menu looked interesting. We ordered kimchi pancakes, shrimp siomay, Korean dumplings and beef noodles. I thought I ordered shrimp noodles as well alas apparently I didn't added to the cart. Poor my son didn't get his shrimp noodles. I have high expectations. And I'm honestly quite disappointed. The pancake and dumplings just ok. My son said the siomay is not good. I can't eat shrimp so I just have to trust him. The noodles look blah an unappealing not appetizing at all. And the taste also blah... I wonder if we just picked the wrong food. I should have stick with the known bim bim bap for example... o well. I would give another chance only when everything back open. Too far for take out and to get disappointed.

Yelp
I haven't been here for a hot minute. I went on a Tuesday night and it was pretty empty. Staffs wore masks and customers are required to wear one until they are seated. We ordered the seafood pancake since I haven't had it for a while. I have to be honest, it doesn't taste as good and fresh as it use to be and the sauce are no longer homemade. They give you regular soy sauce. I ordered the soft stew for my entree and I really did enjoy that! My friend and boyfriend both enjoyed their food as well. The stews are the best! I always order the stew. I will come back to try other food and maybe give the kimchi pancake a try next time.

Yelp
A little back story; When my father was in the military he was stationed in Seoul, South Korea. He pretty much ate Korean specialty while he was there, and when he was set to fly back to the U.S. he brought back the Korean delicacy with him. Growing up we always went to the same Korean restaurant that was about a 20 minute drive from our house in NF. Now that I'm older, and that place has since shut their doors, I've been longing for somewhere to be that replacement place in my life.. WELL... I'VE FOUND IT. I was in the area one Saturday morning and I thought I'd look up Korean places for lunch on Yelp. Arirang was in the top 5 to come up, had a lot of reviews already and was only about a 4 minute drive to where I was at by UB North Campus. On here it said they opened at 10:30am, well it was a little past and the Open sign wasn't on. So I called and a man said they would be opened a little bit around 11am. I wasn't sure why, until I popped in right at 11am and saw that they were setting up for a large group. They had burners with soup already boiling on the table, and lots of side dishes. Each setting had a spoon, chop sticks, and a metal rice container to keep it hot. They also had styrofoam cups with large bottles of water on each table. There were only about three tables available in the middle that weren't set up for this large group. I was immediately taken care of. (Mind you, I fell on ice right outside of the restaurant while walking in. I not only split open my left hand, but I was bleeding from two different areas on my right hand also.) The women working was so nice and bandaged me up. It was greatly appreciated. The guy that had the same voice as the one on the phone promptly gave me a cup of green tea to warm me up. It was very cold in the restaurant - I'm assuming because of them just being open. By the time I was leaving, you could feel the heat start to kick on and actually be warm. Dually noted that a couple that walked in behind me ended up walking out shortly after due to it being very cold. I was blown away by the menu and knew that I would definitely be bringing my parents with me next time. I ordered the "korean roll" which is also known as Kimbap. I also ordered the Rice Cake appetizer dish that was sweet and spicy all at the same time - but I wasn't too impressed. I've had similar dishes that I've made from pre packaged frozen meals that tasted about the same. The main thing I ordered was the Bibimbap, I'm sure I spelled it terribly wrong, but this is my go to dish if I don't know what to order. Everything in it tasted so fresh, it was delicious. From the shaved carrots, bean sprouts, mushrooms, cucumber, pickled radish. I also loved that the sauce for it was in a bottle on the side, I could put as much or as little as I liked - I pretty much drained everything in the sauce. I dipped my Korean roll in it as well. Primarily the beef that was under all those vegetables, was so so so good. Texture wise it wasn't your typical ground beef, it was chunky beef that actually made this dish very hearty. The egg on top and rice on the bottom smothered in the spicy sauce was what I needed to finish this dish. Lastly were the sides that came with my meal. *Spicy pickled radish was so good, I was given an extra side almost immediately after the first was all gone. *Fish Cake. Fish cake is my favorite dish. Theirs was very good, a little bit more fishy than what I've had in the past but it was delicious. *Potatoes. These potatoes were soft boiled and then tossed in a sweet almost teriyaki sauce. *Seaweed. I am not a seaweed fan when it's soaked in fish sauce - and that's exactly what it was. I only had a bite then left the rest. I hate wasting, but I just couldn't eat it. *Kimchi. It's a staple and it was delicious. *Mushrooms. I don't know what kind of mushrooms these were but they were so delicious. It was also in my dish and gave it really good texture.

Yelp
Ate here last night, a Monday night. When we arrived, there was only one other table occupied but it seemed takeout orders were popular. This was a little concerning as from experience, often non-busy days mean lower quality or food that has been sitting around all day. But that assumption was wrong. The only gentlemen working the front was extremely friendly and answered any questions we had about the menu. The menu is quite extensive with a little bit of everything and numerous authentic Korean and Japanese Dishes. We selected the Korean Pancake, shrimp shumai, a beef and vegetable noodle dish, and a Bibimbap dish. The food came out quickly and hot! Everything we had was extremely delicious other than the shimp shumai which tasted a little fishy. The Korean Pancake was big enough to serve the two of us as a complete meal. I think this place is an underrated hidden Gem for delicious Korean food! We will be returning for sure.

Yelp
Arirang is located just outside of UB's North Campus. It's a Korean restaurant and often serves to Asian tour buses. I came here with my Vietnamese friend and we enjoyed the Spicy Soft Tofu Stew with beef, Rice Cake Dumpling Soup, and Dup Bap Beef. The service was fast and friendly. The food was brought out on a cart and was sizzling hot. The Spicy Soft Tofu Stew was phenomenal. I've never enjoyed tofu so much. It was so soft and creamy that it could have been mistaken for cheese. It was perfectly spicy and fitting for the cold weather. The Rice Cake Dumpling Soup was delicious. It had a thick and creamy base. It almost tasted like bone marrow. The rice cakes and dumplings were soft and perfectly cooked. This soup was especially filling! The Dup Bap Beef was very nice. The beef tasted almost like it was marinated in teriyaki. It was tender and had a lovely taste to it. Overall, we had a fantastic experience. I highly recommend everything we had, especially the spicy soft tofu stew. This is without a doubt one of the best Korean places in Buffalo.

Marc M.

Yelp
So would consider this 6.8/10. Got the bimbibap and got only a sprinkle of beef. Vegetables were some what plan and could tell they wanted to pickle them. Ban Chan was sub par. Fish cakes were old and cucumber was mushy. Had a disco Laser in my view the whole time and there is no restroom. Service was great though.

Yelp
Not great.... Ordered a seafood soup but very little seafood..... limbo was too large and dry

Yelp
Ariana Grande keeps on calling me... it's getting annoying. For example last night at 2am, Arirang me. Again. And left a voicemail saying she wants me to take her out for Korean again. I mean, doesn't she know I have other people I want to hang out with and eat out with? Anyway, the big news is that her fave Korean place (this one) has now changed its name to Arirang, because every single night for the last year, Arirang them to make reservations for herself and I. She pays for our dinners, but then she sold more albums than I did so I am okay with that. Apparently she is also friends with Kimchi Kardashian. What to get: Yuk Gae Jang. I really liked Arirang. It's in the plaza on the West side of Millersport next to UB North just north of Maple Ave, where Santora's is. There are four Korean places in Buffalo that I know of, and all four are excellent. Seoul Garden towers above the rest for its awesome prices and has the best-tasting spicy beef bowls (love them!). Koreana is a little different and is delicious and original and has excellent Beef Kalbi. Korea House is a little fancier and a little pricier and has some Korean BBQ, and it's very good. And then there's the "forgotten" Arirang, which is also very good, and has lovely service. It's usually very quiet, but it's well worth changing that, and going in there with some friends and trying their delicious food. The prices are slightly higher than Seoul Garden but not horrifically so. It's cheaper than Korea House. The standard of the food is comparable to Korea House although the decor is not. The Spicy Beef Bowl was satisfying, delicious, filling, and exactly what I was hoping for. I asked for it to be extra spicy, and they weren't willing to do that for me, but it was still extremely delicious. It made me sad that such a delicious place had hardly ever patrons at a random lunch time. I think the reason I like SG the best is because of what they put in it... maybe the spices, maybe the meat, I can't tell. Stop in and give Arirang a try. If you love Korean food as much as I do, you may well uncover a little gem. Most towns in the USA don't even have one good Korean place... we have four of them here. Maybe if I buy enough Spicy Beef Bowls, I can single-handedly keep them in business! ;) By the way, if one of the steps on your ladder is missing, it is no longer politically correct to say "I'm missing a step." It makes the ladder feel inadequate. Instead, you should say it has an "airy rung." As in, one of the rungs, is a little "airy." As in, it's not there. Speaking of which, Airy Rung sounds like a good name for a Korean place...

Yelp
One of my favorite spots to eat Korean food. The employees are super nice and would always have a warmly welcome. I think because it's the summer, it seems as if it is only one person running the front and the kitchen but seems okay to me because they seem to handle it well even when it gets busy. And because they deliver my food at a decent amount of time. I tried a bowl of galbi tang - I believe this is called short rib soup on the menu. It came with clear noodles inside and a side of rice! It was delicious and very filling. The price is average but considering it filled me up, it is a good price too. I almost couldn't finish the whole bowl along with the side dishes and rice. It's okay though if you don't finish because you can always pack it up to go. And if you are still hungry, you can always ask for more sides!! I love their potatoes with a sweet sauce and the seaweed. They also sell snacks so maybe you can grab a bag of snacks while paying for your meal? Bathroom is kinda cute actually - to me, it has some unique walls and I get a nice nature and vintage vibe from it. There is also a piano in the corner, maybe someone can play it while you eat LOL so you can almost feel the experience of a luxurious meal. Anyways, really like this place. Super friendly. Really recommend trying!!

Yelp
Came here for lunch today and was disappointed on several fronts. First I don't appreciate being lied to. When the side dishes were brought to me I noticed that the server had side dishes for another table in her tray. One of those was a very common side dish served with Korean food called Tofu skin. I wondered why I was not offered the tofu skin side dish that was brought to the other table, as well. When I later asked if I could have some too the Server pretended not to know what I was talking about. She first said that would be an extra order, then said they did not have this at their restaurant but I could purchase it at an Asian market. Pretty strange given I had just seen the tofu skin on her serving tray just minutes before. I even went so far as to describe what I was talking about. She said, "maybe next time you order." Then I ordered chicken bibimbap. The amount of chicken was so little I almost could not find it after stirring it up. Otherwise the flavor of the dish was OK after adding the sauce provided. Nothing to write home about. It's clear that this place is trying to cut corners to save money. What a disappointment and a shame. When you pay $18 for a bowl of rice with some side dishes and a cup of tea and there is little to no chicken in a chicken dish then lied to about a side dish that obviously exists but not for me it leaves a bad taste. I will avoid this place next time I am in Buffalo. Dishonesty is not a good policy.

Chung A.

Yelp
asked if they had spicy bulgogi kimbab gave me bulgogi w two sides for $16 and $12 kimbab w no meat inside lady was nice though
google avatar

Connie L.

Yelp
Food: The side dishes are always nice. For main entrees we got a bibimbap, jjajangmyun, and sweet and sour pork. I liked the bibimbap but I've had better jjajangmyun and sweet and sour pork elsewhere. I did not realize the wall menus were different than the menus they gave us so I did not order from the wall. I heard later that the dishes on the wall might be better? Price: pretty pricey. We got the most basic dishes and it was like 20 bucks per dish. There are cheaper options for similar quality of Korean food in buffalo. Atmosphere: Kpop playing in the background and on TV. What more could you ask for? :D Service: The food took a good 30-40 minutes to arrive. I was under the impression that the owner cooks everything, so totally understandable. However i would've liked the side dishes to be served as soon as we order instead of with the entrees, at least that would make the wait more bearable.
google avatar

Brandon T.

Yelp
Arirang is a small family owned business located near UB North. Upon entering, you are met by the super friendly and welcoming owner. Wait times are understandable when busy due to having only 2 staff members in the kitchen. Due to the pandemic, they are short-staffed but are willing to make your visit enjoyable with some great side dishes and entrees. Try the seafood pancake and the fried chicken! Patience is rewarded with some yummy and homey food (:

Yelp
I ordered through the phone for takeout. I ordered the Korean roll and my friend ordered the kimchi stew. My friend said they left out the rice. They did include 2 sides. Some pieces of my roll was falling apart. There was way more rice than the ingredients.

Yelp
A coworker and I came here to have dinner while staying at the Marriott across the street, and with me being vegan and gluten-free, there were VERY few other options around here that I could eat. I knew that I would be fairly safe with Bibimbap without any meat or egg, so that is what aimed to get. The decor is simple and unassuming, but it was clean and that's the main thing that concerned us upon walking in. The server greeted us offered us tea after she gave us the menus. When it came time to order our food, I made sure to ask for the sizzling pot Bibimbap without any meat or egg - and I made sure she understood that because at first she thought I wanted egg but no meat. Good thing I clarified. Our dishes came out together along with the banchan (the side dishes) and the server gladly answered my question about a couple of the banchan dishes (as I didn't recognize ALL of them). The Bibimbap was fine - probably would have been better had I had some meat and egg with it. There weren't a lot of vegetables and it ended up being mostly just rice. I added some hot sauce to add some kick to it and it was better then. The banchan was also good - I'm surprised I liked the eggplant one as much as I did (I normally love eggplant but I don't think I'd ever had it pickled before). The taro one probably had a soy sauce-based sauce (and therefore probably gluten), so I didn't eat it once I realized that. But it looked good. I also should mention that I'm surprised they call themselves a Korean and Japanese restaurant as it seemed like 95% of the menu was Korean. Just a couple teriyaki dishes that I guess made it somewhat Japanese as well. Not bad. I'm glad it was a decent dining experience considering I didn't really have anywhere else to eat. The two ladies working that evening seemed friendly and sincere about asking their customers how the food is. I'd probably come back.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much on the outside but this is some of the best Korean food I've ever had. We ordered dumpling soup, ribs, stone bibimbap, and beef teriyaki and it was all outstanding!!! The owner was so nice and helpful! Cannot say enough nice things about this place!!!!
google avatar

John J.

Yelp
This is our family's go to Korean restaurant. Owners are always friendly and food taste like home cooking. Favorites are mackerel, spicy tofu hot stew and short ribs. Typically i would order bulgogi too but not everyone is here. My wife's favorite is the pork neck soap and she had me order a takeout for it!!!

Yelp
Terrible. The flavors aren't the worst but the quality of product is terrible. Using instant ramen for soup and "cheesesteak" meat for steak. Pretty sure their Korean Fried Chicken is "wing dings" with some heavy corn syrup based sauce. Only saving grace is they're nice. Been twice but never again.

Yelp
Came here on a spur the moment lunch on the way to the airport. It was absolutely empty and the menu was limited. When we did place our order the waitress didn't have the best english and said "what do you want?" If we weren't so comfortable around asian culture, we probably would have said something about it but my bf and I just looked at each other and giggled. We knew what she really meant. I got up to go use the restroom when I saw an old woman's face in between the lower back part of 2 chairs in the other dining room that was dark. HOLY CRAP. I seriously pondered the chances of me being in a scary asian movie while I was in the restroom, I mean, what do I do? I saw the grudge... That stuff FOLLOWS you... As I got back to the table, I realized that she was an actual person and was probably just taking a nap on the chairs in the other room? It really freaked me out for a while. LOL I asked for my dish to come out a little spicy, not full on spicy but when it did come out, it was still pretty spicy. I managed to eat about half of it and most of the side dishes. They kept the door open so annoying flys would come in a lot and bother us. :-/ This place was sub-par. It's not a place I would recommend or come to again, once was definitely enough. Not too many options out near the Buffalo airport ;-( Oh p.s. We parked in the back and went through the weird apartment hallway, some creep smiled at me and I thought I was going to be kidnapped. Anyways, on the way back to the car, we realized the door knob was missing so you have to hook your finger where the knob should be and pull, suuuper ghetto. Oh and the restaurant had a plug in hand dryer. LOL

Yelp
I had the Kimchi jjiggae (kimchi stew), I didn't enjoy it. It tasted like Kimchi and water. There were bits and pieces of pork in it. I liked the side dishes that came out before the meal. My friends and I had to wait 10 minutes before the waitress served us water and that's even with us asking for water... What kind of service is that?? My friends had the meat and grilled mackerel, they said it was alright. I don't know, I wouldn't come back again personally because of the service.

Yelp
I got Galbitang (short rib soup with glass noodles) and my friend got Gamjatang (spicy pork potato and cabbage) both comes with free side of rice and side dishes. Both were delicious, owner is super sweet.

Yelp
I've been here for many times and every time I came here, I'd like to order bimbinbam. It's really delicious, it testes like real Korean things that u try in Korean. I love it. And the old lady who I believe is the manager here is really nice, I like her

Yelp
Really great food, expertly prepared, delicious. I love the kim chee prior to the main course. The lady who brings the food is very nice, genteel, friendly. I am a Korean food fan so this place works for me. The interior is very modest. Go for the food, not the ambiance.

Yelp
Out of this world Korean food! My daughter and I are fans of Bibimbap and this place has THE REAL DEAL! Amazing. Delicious and comes with 6 side dishes. We are definitely coming back and having one of the stews that you cook at the table. They guys at the next table had that and it looked and smelled spectacular. We have tried other Korean restaurants and this one takes the cake.

Yelp
We ordered bibimbap, kimchi and pork casserole, rice cake and udon. Definitely the rice cake! When ordering bibimbap, recommend hot stone instead of the regular. Udon was kinda off. The casserole was OK maybe more meat? The appetizers were delicious. It is more expensive though! We ordered sake(12%tax) and if u have more than 5 people the tip was 18% percent. The trolley is also kinda loud. The food is good but consider the service and the price(especially) it was 3 star.

Yelp
Excellent service, great location, good prices and most importantly, delicious food. The K Chicken is the bomb.

Yelp
Very good food. I got the kimchi fried rice and the stir fried rice cakes with ramen noodles. Nice and spicy and a lot of flavor. Also they were very kind when I arrived to pick up my order. I would come here again and again.

Yelp
My friends and I traveled from Massachusetts and were craving authentic Korean food. Not only was the food delicious but the service was impeccable. The owner gave us unlimited sides and didn't hesitate to refill our water whenever needed. My group ordered the soybean soup and kimchi stew and it not only satisfied but exceeded our cravings. The owner also gave us free snacks which was so sweet.

Yelp
Come here a few times already my favorites are: seafood pancake spicy rice cakes kimchi stew bibimbap The old lady that served me knows English and she's super cute! The place doesn't look like anything but the food and service is really good! It's a bit pricey but you're paying for the authentic quality

Yelp
Ahhh? No- not for me! I've never had Korean food before and based on here- never again! $40 for 2 for lunch...?... and that was the special? I wanted noodles- thinking that would be safe and was told- we only have those in summer. Ok? Ended up with some cold gummy rice in the bottom of a bowl with some slimy fishy tasting vegetables on top and a cold- old looking- fried egg on top! Gross! I ate some of the rice- then said- let's get the hell out of here! Ugggg this place is not for me!

Yelp
Great authentic Korean food for a very reasonable price. We ordered the cheese ramen and it was delicious. We also tried the bulgogi bibimbap and a kimchi stew. They were both amazing. Our entrees also came with banchan (Korean side dishes) as they should. Highly recommend trying this place out if you like, or would like to try Korean cuisine.

Yelp
I go to Buffalo frequently on business and it is tough to find korean food in general up there. I found this restaurant because it was right next to the Marriott that I stayed at. I really wanted to give this place 4 stars. But NYC korean food has utterly spoiled me. The food here is okay compared to NYC flushing or korea town. The food here not not bad though. It was quite palatable but didn't have the kick and finish that you would be accustomed to in a city like LA or NYC. To be fair, the restaurant is probably 1 of 3 korean restaurants in all of greater buffalo. I have not tried the other places (though I plan on it) and I imagine the food is as good or better than its peers. I tried the kam ja tang and found it good. I have heard from other people that they make good bibim bap. Their simpler dishes stand out the best.

Yelp
Since the ownership changed we find that we come here less and less. We've been disappointed a bit with the quality of the ingredients. Not sure if they are cheaper options, or if some of the items that were previously homemade are now pre-made. The prices have always seemed a bit high, but it just doesn't seem to be worth it as much anymore.

Yelp
What's good: kimchi stew, bibimbop What's okay: spicy seafood noodles What's not good: noodles in brown sauce (jang jang myung) Atmosphere is not great, so I usually do takeout. But the owners always seem surprised when I call, as they simply answer "Hello?" in a puzzled voice. But I recommend this place.

Yelp
I stayed at the Marriott hotel and Arirang was the closest Korean restaurant within walking distance. I came in at 5:00 pm and it was quiet, only 4 customers. There was a an older Korean man who greeted me and took my orders. I ordered the ddeokbokki (spicy rice cake) and galbitang (beef rib soup with radish). The meal was decent, nothing GRAND nor fancy. It was presented in a mediocre way, just like the regular gimbap shops in Korea. The food tasted like how it should taste like, but the only thing I'd want to note is that they could have added a bit more ribs in my galbitang. As you can see in the picture, it was mainly white radish. The rice cake was decent, reasonably spicy. Service was good, my waiter came by occasionally asking if everything was ok. He was a bit busy running back and forth to the kitchen and up front. Overall, it was decent. The pricing is a bit high for the quantity of food I've received but other than that, I'd give it a 3.8-4.

Yelp
Our first Korean experience after many times wanting to venture out and give it a go. We're pretty adventurous (I will eat tripe, SW will eat pate) and love us pretty much any ethnic food we've gotten our mouths on. Unfortunately when we went to Korea House we were intimidated. We didn't feel welcomed (no Hello, Hi, nothing) and the menu was all in Korean with no English explanations of what we were ordering. So I researched this place and popped in on a Saturday night around 8:30. A few tables full, mostly UB students and one family - a pretty good sign. Not many gringos, but I attributed it to being as yet undiscovered. And I was right. Friendly gracious hosts - 2 older guys and the lady chef who popped her head out and apologized for forgetting one of our 7 homemade veggie dumplings. The owner (yes, English is not his first language but as Katherine H said, made up for it with food - and attitude!) was very nice, brought out 10 small dishes after we ordered to get us started. A mixture of different kimchees, marinated tofus, seaweed, beansprouts. Nice start. Try them all. I had simple bulgoki bibimbap which came served in a steaming clay pot (ask for the hot pot!) which was great. I think it's called dolsot but I didn't see that on the menu. Marinated beef, rice, some kimchee, beansprouts and hot sauce on the side, and a fried egg on top. Oh how Pittsburgh of them! SW had Dup Bap which seemed to have more meat in it, a bit sweeter and overall good also. I finished her leftovers the next day. Next time I'll try one of the stews recommended here. A great experience. Quick service and very friendly.

Yelp
We are still on a high from our experience at Arirang. We have had a difficult time finding decent Asian food since moving to Buffalo. We were ready to be let down yet again. Arirang did not let us down. It was fantastic. It was at least as good as the Korean food that we used to eat in Toronto. We ordered the Korean dumplings, the spicy cod stew, and the Dolt Sot Bi Bim Bab with beef. Everything was delicious and abundant. The dishes came with eight varieties of kim chi. This is the best meal that we have had since moving to Buffalo. The food is very authentic. (No Frank's Red Hot in the soup, no Buffalo wings on the menu, etc.) It appears to be owned and operated by a very sweet Korean couple. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Well, if you stick with Bim Bap and other rice, vegetable and meat dishes you should be golden. It's very good stuff - and comes with a great selection of side dishes. It feels and looks relatively healthy, what with all those bright vegetables - but I can't say for sure; it's so delicious I don't want to know if it's not as healthy as it looks. The kimchi is excellent and so are the sweet, side potatoes. However, fish dishes aren't great. We ordered the cod fish soup and it was tasty but nearly impossible to finish for the bones (including the spine). Now I'm no expert at filleting fish, but I can't imagine it's price prohibitive for the owners to buy boneless filets. My dining companion actually got so sick of, uh...fishing for the fish, that he gave up exasperated. The soup was $16. I felt bad because he left hungry.

Yelp
I always get the kimchi hot stone pot. The owners are always fantastic, and the food is always delicious. Sometimes the little plates, the side dishes (not sure what they are called!) come out at odd times... I've had it come when I first sit down, right after I order or with my dinner. But either way, it's a good time all around! Also, it boggles my mind that they can accommodate twenty or so college kids at one time in there. I mean woah!
